Internet locks up, other computers not affected

Occasionally, my internet connection will simply hang or lock up.  I am using a MacBook Pro 15" with a  2.33 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  The connection is through a wireless router with no security (my house is a good ways from neighbors).  It normally seems to happen when loading a video such as an imbedded YouTube movie and almost always while using FireFox (current version is 4.01 but this has been going on with other version).  Lately, any web page will cause this and happening more frequently.  Closing the web browser doesn't fix it, nor does killing my airport connection or restarting.  The only fix seems to be turning off my cable modem and router.  I've scanned for viruses, use a script blocker in my browser and use a network monitor.  I've yet to find anything that could be causing this.  Any ideas or things to check for?  I run a PC laptop on the same wireless network and it never experiences these problems.

Restore to factory settings/new iPod if you have not done so already. If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Internet works on other computers, not mine...

Okay, so. We had been having some internet problems last week, but after resetting the modem, and temporary outage in our area, it went back up. However, I'm finding that although all the other computers in the house are able to connect to the internet, my Macbook can't.
My mother's eMac is connected to the same network as mine, and the internet runs fine on it, a bit slow because of the computer, but all the same it works. On my computer, the airport icon in the menu bar shows a full signal strength, but I'm not able to access even Google. Network Diagnostics says that it appears to be working, but it can't connect to the internet.
This really confuses me. Why is the eMac able to connect to the internet on the same network, but the Macbook can't? I would download a system update, but that requires...the internet. The worst thing about it is that my Macbook has always worked on the network until that day.
Please save my computer -- summer vacation's just around the corner, and I can't survive without it! TT_TT

Are you connecting the AirPort Extreme to a simple modem (it will only have one ethernet port), or is the device a gateway (combination modem/router with 3-4 ethernet ports)?

    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.

Installed iTunes 10.5 but after I restarted my computer it won't connect to the Internet. All other computers in the house connect to Internet just fine. Help!! I Did all the regular modem diagnostics but that computer won't connect and it's a hard wire connection, not wireless (too far from the wireless signal). Is anyone else having this problem?

    Hello, might try this...
Make a New Location, Using network locations in Mac OS X ...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2712
    10.5, 10.6, 10.7 & 10.8…

System Preferences>Network, click on the little gear at the bottom next to the + & - icons, (unlock lock first if locked), choose Set Service Order.
The interface that connects to the Internet should be dragged to the top of the list.
IFor 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8, System Preferences>Network, unlock the lock if need be, highlight the Interface you use to connect to Internet, click on the advanced button, click on the DNS tab, click on the little plus icon, then add these numbers...
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220

  • E72 internet sharing with other computers

I am having problems with my modem at home and am only able to access the internet via my E72 connected via USB to my computer. Is it possible to share this internet connection with other users on my home wireless network?

You can share the internet access from your phone to other devices by using the Joikuspot application. His effectively turns your phone into a wifi hotspot. There is the premium Joikuspot or Joikuspot light which is free but has limited security. Both are available for download from www.ovi.com.

  • Can AirPort make USB internet wireless to other computers?

Hi I'm very new to this whole Mac thing, and even more new to using the AirPort. Currently, everything is set up fine, we have a cable broadband plan and it's plugged into the AirPort and wireless for both my and my husband's laptops.
I've recently been shafted by my broadband supplier though, and have been looking into other plans. The most convenient cost and download-wise are all usb wireless modem plans, however!
So, my question is: if I get a USB Internet Stick (or Datacard) and go on a wireless plan, can I still wirelessly connect both computers to the net at the same time, and would I do that through the AirPort?

    Hi,
An AirPort Extreme base station or an AirPort Express requires an Ethernet WAN input. The output of a USB (or ExpressCard) mobile broadband modem has to be converted (for example, through a special adapter similar to this one).
Another way, as bpbpbp already indicated, would be to use a dedicated mobile broadband router (something like this, this or this); either independently or in connection with an existing wireless (Wi-Fi) base station.
In all cases, make sure that a certain mobile broadband modem is supported before you buy. Usually, there is a list of supported devices for each mobile broadband router or special adapter.

  • .mov to DVD to play on other computers

I have a .mov file on my desktop that plays just fine with QT.
If I burn the file using the Finder's Burn Folder or make a data disc using Toast, the resulting .mov file on the burned DVD will not play on my computer.
    What am I doing wrong?
I simply want to put the .mov file on a DVD so that it will play on other computers, not so it will play on a DVD player.

Toast no longer supports crossover copying of Mac and PC DVD's. The older versions (Toast 10.2) did because they embedded "autorun" data so the DVD would be read by Windows. According to the techs at Toast, the only way to get a Mac made .mov (etc) file to play on a PC or Mac/PC is to include some type of PC autorun software with the transfer. This is done by options-more-add autorun. Of course, the catch 22 is that there is no easy way to do this. I'm done with Toast.

  • HT1178 What the difference is between WPA and WPA2 and how are these settings affecting the access of other computers to the internet through my Time Capsule

I have a Time Capsule of the 4th generation and I am pretty impressed since I just had a fried harddrive on my 3 month old Imac and Time Capsule restored it fully including all programs etc. without having me to put in all serial numbers etc. for that I give it an A+. However what I find very frustrating is the very short and incomplete user manual and setup instructions. I give those a D-. It does not explain the consequences of certain choices to a normel non computer gig user like me:
I do not understand what the consequences and difference is between the security setting WPA/WPA2 and WPA2 when setting it up. It would be helpful if the manual would explain something like: If you set it onto WPA2 then computers older than XXX years will not able to hook up to the internet through your router...or the likes, since I slowly supect this may be the reason for some of my troubles.
I also have a 5 year old PC with vista connected to the Time Capsule. It can wireless connect to the Time Capsule and access the printer (I have managed that after some painful hours...) but it cannot access the internet with that PC through the timecapsule wireless, only if I hook it up with a cable. Why? Does that have to do with the fact that I have set the TIme Capsule to WPA2?
Our PS3 can connect wireless, no problem. However, I friend of mine tried it with a quite new Toshiba Notebook and he could see the Time Capsule but again it shows the line from the Time Capsule to the internet blocked. All other computers linked with data cable to the Time Capsule are connected to the internet no problem. What have we done wrong? Should I change the security setting to WPA/WPA2?
I tried the latter, but then another problem does come up, which was there from beginning on: When I change the settings for my Time Capsule my Imac suddenly cannot find the Timne Capsule anymore, even so I am only 3feet away from it. When I set it up for the first time 3 month ago it drove me crazy. The very first time it found the Time Capsule right away. But when I discuverd a mistake in my initial setup and I went through the settings again to change stuff it suddenly could not find the Time Capsule anymore. Only after frustrating 20 times or so with turning wi-fi on and off several times inbetween did it suddenly find the Time Capsule in the set up menu. However, when I tried changing my security setting to WPA/WPA2 today to see whether this solves my other problems again it could not find the Time Capsule when I was finished with the settings and I had to give up/cancel. Why is that???
I would really appreciate some help here. But please I am not a computer gig and normally always had assistance with these things. On the other hand I am not all stupid either (even so these manuals assuming we all grew up sleeping on a computer make me feel stupid).....
    Thank you all in advance

Hello Schimi. The Time Capsule is a kind of product that offer you two possibility:
    - To use the TC as a router or as an external HD.
The difference between WPA and WPA 2 are:
    - They are two kinds of internet connection.
WPA uses dynamic key encryption , which means that the key is constantly changing and makes the invasion of a wireless network more difficult than WEP . WPA is considered one of the highest levels of wireless security for your network and is recommended if your devices support this kind of encryption . Newer routers offer WPA2 security . WPA2 is compatible with WPA , but offers higher security level . In fact, it meets the high standards of many government agencies . If the router and computer support WPA2 , this should be your choice.
If you need any help or if you find some difficult setting up it you can contact Apple Support.
I am sure that they can help you with that.
I am sory for the delay. I holpe that you solve your issue.

  • My Macbook Air does not show up on my network to any of my other computers, Other computers on my network appear and disappear, some shared folders are not accessible

My Macbook Air with Lion does not show up on my network to any of my other computers (PC's) , even though it is connected to my wifi and does access the Internet. In addition, my other computers sometimes show up in Finder and sometimes they're not there. Sometimes they do show in Finder and when I click on them, I get "Connection Failed", other times, they connect. Also some shared folders on those other computers, which are PC's are not accessible, even though fully shared. My network is Apple Airport Extreme and works perfectly otherwise, including all PC's being able to see each other. Help would be much appreciated

I got the same problem. I want to access my shared folder on my home windows7 from my MBA. Tried many suggestions on the web but all to no avail. I thought that should be very trivial. Maybe a Lion bug?

  • New 13" MacBook stops other computers wireless Internet access

Since adding my new 13" Aluminium late 08 Notebook other apple computers on my apple wireless N extreme network can not use the internet. I have removed the other computers one at a time but it makes no difference. when I add this notebook it stops any of the others from using the internet but this is ok.

    Thank you for your help.
Yes DHCP is enabled and this computer has a different IP address to the others.
I have read other users with the same problem which appears to be unresolved at this time.
I am wondering if it has something to do with wireless N mode or maybe something to do with the ADSL modem?

  • Firefox sometime can find specific server then at other times it can not. Also when on a web site and you attempt to go to anotherpage on the site, it lock up or can not find the page.

Firefox cannot find a server that it has gone to easily in the past. Also it will lock up or can not find a page with in a web site ie like with FoxNews and you want to read and article. Firefox cannot find it. Sometimes I can not even log on to FireFox.

    Hi Corel
    Thank you for your reply
However I need the lower case version for some sites and the upper case version for the site in question? To make matters worse this site does not allow you to change your log on name unless it is in the form of an e-mail address
So what I need is Kostas for this site and kostas saved for other sites and allow me to choose which one I want to use
How do I do this please
I have no bother with this on Win Internet Explorer but I like Firefox
Mind it may be as simple as deleting The appropriate entry and resetting with Kostas instead of kostas?
But I would appreciate knowing the correct solution from an expert

  • When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to access the printer. Any thoughts?

When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered that my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to share the printer. Does anyone else have this problem?  My printer does not have on-board Wi-Fi but, otherwise, works fine.  I shouldn't have to buy a new one.  Is there a OS patch out there that would open the printer port for my PC computers?

I'm assuming that on the Mac, the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Printer Sharing -> [X] HP printer -> Everyone can print is selected?  That is to say, the Mac will allow anyone to print using the printer, and that you did not try to restrict who can print.
How is your network configured?  Bonjour as a protocol will NOT cross a router boundary.  If you have 2 or more subnets active with the PCs on one subnet and the Mac on another, that would block the PCs from seeing the Mac.
You could have multiple subnets if you have more than one router, such as an ISP provided broadband modem/router and another WiFi Router.  If the PCs are talking to one router and the Mac is talking to another, that could be a 2 subnet situation.  The additional routers must be put into bridge mode, which is done differently depending on the router.  But the basics are to diable DHCP and NAT services on the secondary router(s) having just one active router on the network.
Also, using Bonjour Browser on my Mac, it is showing me that the printer is being advertised as using Internet Printing Protocol, so if that is something selectable on Windows, maybe you can bypass Bonjour on Windows.

  • My iPod will not register on my computer, but it will on other computers.

I have a Windows XP and everything else works in my USB ports but my iPod. My iPod works in other computers just not mine.

Since yours is a old PC, the iPod will run into timeouts,
Re-install iTunes, it may update the iPod device driver.
Try connecting the iPod to a USB 2.0 port at the back of your PC.
Disconnect all other USB devices, and dont use any USB hubs
    Disconnect from the Internet
    Stop the Antivirus software
