Internet & network

I found this post from a couple of years ago and it sounds almost exactly like the problem I am having:
"I am working in a small office. We have 4 computers on the network and three printers. This morning out of the blue, two of the computers will not connect to our Network (other computers and Internet) but will print. The other two will connect to the network, but will not print or recognize the printers. How can this be? We shut everything down (computers, printers, hubs, dsl modem, etc.) but that did not help. Can anyone give me any insight to this?"
The response from lz3broc was:
do you have an autosensing router switch?
has anyone tried to reset the router?
did any of the computers have recent OS upgrades?
There was no answer for me there as the situation "magically" resolved itself.
Now to my situation: The only thing different is the computers and sotfware seem to be working fine, and all will print to the network printers. It's just connecting to each other, the Internet and incoming mail.
I don't know about the router, it is fairly new - Cisco Linksys SD2008.
We did unplug the thing and shut everything down.
YES - we did update the OS from 10.4.2 to 10.4.11 last week and everything has gone downhill since then. I did the check disk and repair permissions on these computers too.
Can anyone provide any insight as to what we can do next here? By the way, the outgoing e-mail does work.
Thanks,
Kim

So I came in today and this is what I had:
Mac 1 working fine, Internet, E-Mail, printers, cannotlog on to other hard drives on network.
Mac 2 - No Internet, E-Mail and will not print.
Shut everything down thinking I could just move the 200 Gig from Mac 2 to Mac 1 and be on my way. Hooked 200 Gig to Mac 1 and booted up. Now, neither Mac 1 or Mac 2 has Internet, E-mail or can print.
Shut everything down, unhooked the 200 Gig completely.
Started Mac 2. Mac 2 now has no Internet or E-Mail, but will print.
Started Mac 1. Mac 1 now has no Internet or E-Mail, but will print.
Shut down. Hooked the 200 Gig to Mac 2 and started up.
Same as above. Mac 2 now has no Intenet or E-Mail, but will print.
Mac 1 now has no Internet or E-mail, will not print.
It seems every time I do something, I I get different results. Sometimes on Mac 1, I get I get a window that says: "AFP Connection Status: Looking up Mac1's computer. Connection failed - server may not exist or not operational at this time." Does AFP have anything to do with this? I am out of ideas.
Thanks.

  • Switching from internet network to printer network to print

I have a Macbook Pro that I use and also a new Macbook that my grandparents use. We share an HP printer. I was wondering if there was a way to adjust snow leopard so that when i decide to print i don't have to go to the airport menu and change to my printer network and then when i am ready to continue browsing the internet i have to switch back to my internet network which is my dsl box which is wireless to be able to browse the internet. I hope i have explained this clear enough but if not write me back and i will try and explain it better this is my first time on here. Any help would be much appreciated

You need to connect the printer to the dsl modem/router if possible.
This way both of you can use the printer.
There only needs to be one network for all devices.

  • I'm connected to my home internet network, but won't appear on the list

I'm in range of my internet network and it works, but it never shows up on the list for me to change things like the DNS settings...

    Try:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Reset iPod touch:  Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Powering off and then back on the router
    - Resetting network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • IPhone game playing on internet, network  or AIM

    Hi All,
I have completed my card board game for iphone. Now it has capability of playing usual 4 types(H VsH, C Vs C, C Vs H and H Vs C). Now I would like to provide players to play over internet, network or AIM.
I wondering what kind of technologies are available on iPhone? If you can give me some references It will be grateful. Usually in Java/J2EE world, (Client/Server environment) create a web service interface between client and server, and send/receive events from web service. (Lot more things happens under cover)...
Is this same approach I need to follow here also ....
    Thanks in advance

Okay, people, certainly someone has had a problem with "Syncing Contacts" taking a long long time.  I believe this has to have something to do with iCloud/iTunes/Outlook.  Please help.

Yes, I think most of us do understand what open source software is. It sounds as if you don't. Here's some information:
Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is available in source code form: the source code and certain other rights normally reserved forcopyright holders are provided under an open-source license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software.
Open source software is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open-source software is the most prominent example of open-sourcedevelopment and often compared to (technically defined) user-generated content or (legally defined) open content movements.

Yes, Tom Wu of Stanford wrote a paper on something called Secure Remote Access Protocol. It's a form of Asymetric Key Exchange and has nothing to do with hacking anything. It's actually intended to protect data.

  • Create the internet network from MacBook Pro (Aircard) to iPhone and iPad

I would like to create the internet network from MacBook Pro (that used Aircard) to iPhone and iPad. I already turned on the internet sharing, but could not create the internet network. Please let me know how to solve this problem.

Couldn't you attach your iPhone to your computer and upload and add your iPhone Contacts to your iTunes Contacts and then sync the iPhone? Add one unique contact and calendar entry to your computer. You should then get the option to merge.

    HI @stesyls
If possible can you try the following steps?
Remove battery and SIM card from Z10
Start device, go to the APN screen (Settings > Network Connections > Mobile Network > APN)
Enter the APN provided by your carrier
Back out of this screen to save the change
Remove battery and insert SIM again
Test browsing while connected to the mobile network only

  • Windows Vista Won't Recognize Internet Networks

I just installed Windows Vista Home Basic on my MacBook Pro with Boot Camp. I have Road Runner wireless internet and my Mac side recognizes and connects all the time, but my Windows side doesn't recognize it or any other network. What's the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thanks,

Uninstalled and reinstalled the new update. I even ran the setup as admin, but no dice. And there's no Java settings in the control panel either.

  • Internet networking suddenly fails on my G4, other devices are fine?

Problem my G4 PowerBook running 10.5.8 has hit this week...
i.e. G4 browsers and program's work fine on my internal network i.e. using Safari to connect to media players and many other bits of internal kit, but any access to the Internet and it's as if I don't have a working connection. This has prevented me connecting to iTunes and all Internet websites, also get connection error while checking for macs os updates. I'm sure I saw an Airport update last week as part of a regular check - so wondering if other networking code changed or mucked up settings like MTU? I get the same issue on WiFi as well as wired LAN. This is the first time EVER I've seen a cable connected Apple or Windows PC come to that fail to connect, so it must be some very base level issue... I guess it could be hardware, if it's the same chip doing WiFi and LAN?
I've tried the tricks some folk have seen work, like boot in safe mode by holding the shift key down during boot and using a fixed IP address rather than DHCP. All other devices, including horrible Windows PC's, work fine accessing the Internet, plus iPhones and iPads... so it seems something has happened to my PowerBook  :-(
Come on Apple, I see several similar issues while wasting a Sunday trying to fix this...
... one problem is even if they do fix it, how do we get it - unless there's a downloadable 10.5.9 how would we get to load it!!
Also, Apple support pages tell me 10.5.8 is the last Leapard update and that I should update my hardware!!!

  • Can't connect HP Touchpad to internet/network

I have many issues with my HP TouchPad. I will only mention the MAIN ISSUE, I CANNOT CONNECT TO THE INTERNET through my network!  I can connect to my network with my ipad2, my iphone4, my Sony VIO, my DELL Laptop, my HP wireless printer.  But I cannot connect with my HP TouchPad.  Correction, I can get to the network, but not the Internet.  I've talked to HP service 3 or 4 times.  They say it must be my router... It is not my router... I am a CIO so I took this so called tablet to my Network Engineers and all three of them cound not get it to work on 3 differnt networks... yes you got it all three networks work well with any other device... HP support says it must be all 3 routers!!! REALLY, REALLY,  interesting... I've mention MTU's and other things to them, like a new driver.  Not sure if they understand ENGLISH! Anyhow, if anyone would like to buy my HP TouchPad for $300 PLEASE let me know as it was not worth what I paid for it! I would still take a loss of $300, but than I can get back to my other devices that we are testing for our 150+ mobile users! Yes, my iPad2 works GREAT!!!

Have you tried the simplest of router troubleshooting?  Cycle power to the router?
The TouchPad I have works fine with every Wifi source I've pointed it to - home system, and many HotSpots.

  • Need help setting up wireless internet network

I have a 1 GHz iMac G4 (purchased in 2003) that has a dsl connection to the internet via an ethernet cable and the dsl modem that was provided by my internet service (earthlink). My friend recently gave me her imac - same model. I've given it to my son for his room and would like to set up a wireless network so I can get his computer on the internet too.
I've read enough here to figure out that our computers are compatible with the AirPort Extreme card. But what other equipment do I need? How many Airport Extreme cards? an AirPort station?, a router? I'm clueless but very good at following instructions. So if there is an FAQ somewhere that would be helpful too.
    Thanks!

Sarah, Welcome to the discussion area!
You need a wireless router. You can use one of Apple's or a 3rd party wireless router.
You can connect one of the iMacs to the router via Ethernet if you want. Or you can add AirPort Extreme cards to both iMacs.

  • Long Time For Internet Network Access After Sleep (Interesting Twist)

I have a Macbook Pro and an Airport Extreme. Recently, I have noticed that when my Macbook Pro comes out of sleep mode, it takes a long time to connect to my network. Here is the interesting twist on the problems that I have seen reported on here: I immediately connect to the Airport Extreme. I know this because I see the signal strength indicator on the Pro (upper toolbar) showing that I am connected with strong signal strength. However, when I attempt to access the Internet I get page errors that show I am not connected to the Net. After about a minute or two, everything is fine.
This started happening recently and other than whatever upgrades Apple has sent my way, I have not changed nor added anything to the system.
    Any thoughts?

Given your connection will eventually come good you'll probably find that your problem lies with your DHCP server and your MBP's inability to quickly get a new address. Check the DHCP's server admin that it has a decently large enough address pool as having too small a pool can often cause these issues. I normally recommend having a pool around 50% more than the number of computers that it serves else a minimum of 5.

  • How to setup my blackberry torch to my mobile internet network will work

My mobile network has an APN, Proxy #, and a Port #, however I do not know how to find the settings on my torch so the internet will work.  Does anyone know how to help me?
    thank you

You need a specific blackberry data plan in order to use data functions on your blackberry, once this data plan is in place the settings will be pushed to your phone in the form of service books so you do not need to configure them yourself.

  • Wireless Internet network adapter

I recently got an internet adapter for a USB port because I don't have a airport card. The problem is the setup in Internet connect, I"m just not sure how I know I have the configurations correct. The adapter has cd startup, but is only for pc. I downloaded the drivers, and in ZydasWlan the utilty for the adapter, I see the connection and it shows the strength and varying connection, so I can see the wireless network, but can't connect. I'm using a Hawking mini wireless-G USB network adapter. HWU54G is the model type. In internet connect, what happens with the setting changes, and in the network under system preference, how do I know if I need to set up the TCP/IP or PPP? Thanks to anyone that can help.

I have exactly the same problem as you do with my Ibook G3, I am using a Belkin wireless G adapter, the first time I plugged it in and installed the driver from the net it connected and was great, I ran software update and updated itunes as a test and it worked like a dream but ever since I restarted then it is having the same problem, the Belkin is talking to the wireless router and there is a good connection but Safari will not show a web page, keeps saying I'm not connected to the internet?? Pulling my hair out trying to get it to work, all I have on my ibook is a fresh OS X.4, Any help will be greatly appreciated, I know it must work as I have sat there and got on to the net with it and downloaded, just can't understand why it now won' t work.
