Internet not working properly in osx but fine in xp

I'm running OS X 10.5.6 and found that lots of websites just aren't loading up. For example I have to post this in xp as this part of the apple website just hangs.
Webmail also doesn't work, can't log onto hotmail, I can log onto yahoo but cant read messages or send mail via webmail. If I use the 'mail' program in OS X I can download all the mails and send very small mails of up to about 10 lines, any more than that and they just get stuck. I have tried Safari, Firefox and Seamonkey, also the Seamonkey mail client and all suffer the same problems.
The websites will just sit there loading and eventually time out.
I have XP home edition on bootcamp, if I reboot into that it's fine and I can access everything normally using both IE7 and firefox.
If I run the same xp partition using VMware fusion though I have the same problems as in OS X.
This problem was present in 10.5.5 and I was hoping it would be cured in 10.5.6... I guess not.
I read a lot of talk about dns problems so I manually added various dns servers but to no avail. The network settings are the same in xp as in os x (except for the dns servers I added).
Has anyone got any suggestions on this? I got a mac to escape windows, now its forcing me to use it >.<

I'm also having extreme problems with Flash. I did the
uninstaller thing too, I re-booted over & over again & it's
still not working. I can't view anything that uses Flash!!! It
shows up as being installed on my computer, but all the websites I
go to say "you don't have the new version installed-install now."
There's a link to install, I get the pop up on my toolbar to
install Active-X, but nothing happens.
If anyone has new info...please help

Gasbuddy web site not working properly with firefox, but working fine with explorer

I've noticed when I load the web site gasbuddy.com, it is not working properly. It does load, just not performing like it should. When I try using gasbuddy.com on explorer 9, it works fine. I've already tried working in safe mode and that didn't solve the problem with gasbudy.com. Any suggestions as to how to fix the problem? I did do some prior investigating, and I'm very cautious about removing my cookies. It seems when I do that procedure, I lose too much info on certain web sites----weather.com, weatherunderground, etc. Just not sure how to remove cookies to solve a problem with out causing other problems? Thank you.

I'm glad we were able to figure it out. Many sites are designed with stretchy columns that work with either full zoom or text-only zoom, but definitely not all of them.

Comcast Cable Internet not working with router (WRT54G), but network is fine?

My Comcast Cable Internet is not working with my router (WRT54G), but my home network is fine. The internet works without router.
I have a WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router from Linksys.
I was using Bellsouth DSL Internet up until two weeks ago.
I had my DSL modem connected to my router, and the router let me use the internet and share some files and printers with my laptop upstairs.
A few weeks ago we changed to Comcast cable. The technician came in and connected it himself, but only for the desktop. The internet worked perfectly, and still works perfectly on my desktop (the one downstairs). He didn't really give me any instruction or CD-roms for it.
When I tried connecting my router, the internet stopped working. It was weird because the router worked for the file sharing and printer sharing between both my computers, but the internet didn't work. Although, the light for the internet is lit on the router itself.
I even have this program called "AOL Network Magic" which shows a map of what is connected to the router, and it shows that the router and my laptop and desktop are connected, but then it has an "X" for the internet connection.
I have tried everything. I lost all of my CDs and things that came with Linksys, but I downloaded some guides from the Linksys website and it doesn't really help. I tried something called "NetSet", but after I set everything up it says my router is not compatible or something with NetSet. I read a bunch of FAQs, I tried going to comcast and seeing if they had any FAQS about it, but I can't find anything.
Maybe one of you can help me?
Also, I don't know my modem's IP address. I had it for Bellsouth, and sometimes when I would lose my connection I would go there and click on "reconnect" or something like that.
So the only way I can use the internet is to disconnect everything from my router and connect the ethernet cable directly to the modem.

You may open the web setup utility page of the router by typing its IP address on your browser's address bar. By default, it is 192.168.1.1. When you're asked for username, you may leave it blank. For password, its "admin". If in case that does not work, reset your router at the back for 30 secs and do a power cycle again, see if it becomes accessible after that...

Internet not working through Apple applications, but ok in firefox?

I'm having trouble with my internet connection through Apple software on my computer. It started a few days ago, I don't think any changes have been made to my network.
Basically if I try to connect to the internet in Safari, Mail, iTunes, Dashboard or anything else that's an Apple program, it doesn't work at all. It spends a huge amount of time "Loading..." and sometimes will eventually come up with the information but usually times out.
However, if I use Firefox - which I had luckily installed on my computer - all pages and everything load instantly.
I connect to the internet through an Airport which we bought three months ago. The Airport connects to a modem which connects to the line.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?? I much prefer using Safari and I'm dying because I can't get into the iTunes store!!

Firefox is one of the few applications that maintain their own 'Proxy'-settings and do not use the general 'Proxy'-settings of OSX like all the other apps you mentioned to not work.
Check the Proxy-settings of Firefox against the general OSX ones.

Safari 7.0 not working properly in OSX Mavericks

I just downloaded and installed OSX Mavericks. Everything seems to be working great except for Safari. I have a Mid-2009 Macbook Pro 13" 2.26Ghz Core 2 Duo 8GB RAM.
Safari opens, and works in 1 tab only. If you try to open a new tab, or open a page in a new tab, nothing happens. You can't get to the Safari Extensions, or Installed Plug-ins screens, because nothing happens when you click on them. If you try to go Full Screen, nothing happens except Safari freezes and will not respond. Besides all of that, if you hit the red button on the upper left to close Safari without "Quitting" safari, it has and error and says Sarafi Quit Unexpectedly. Is there anyway to wipe Safari 7 off of Mavericks and re-install it fresh? Don't care if I loose my settings/bookmarks etc.

At the moment there does not appear to be a separate installer for Safari 7. It comes as part of the Mavericks installer. You could reinstall Mavericks and that would reinstall Safari. Pacifist CharlesSoft — software you always wished someone would write can extract just the Safari installer, however.
You might try a few other things first, though:
boot into your recovery partition and repair your HD When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies (the title says ML, but it still applies to Mavericks)
repair your permissions while you're at it
a safe boot Mac OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode?
a test user account Isolating an issue by using another user account
remove the Safari .plist file
hold down the option key
in the Go menu in the finder, scroll down to Library
in Library, find Preferences
in Preferences, find com.apple.safari.plist and drag it to the trash
restart
you'll have to reenter your Safari prefs

URLLoader not working in any browsers but fine in the Flash IDE

I have a problem that seems very strange. A flash script is using URLLoader to update some records and send back a message.
In the flash IDE there is no problem. However, when I upload to the server, or viewing the swf file locally in any browser, the browser just hangs and does not show anything.
I have also added a IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR handler which does not give me any information.
The URLloader is communicating with a php script. I have found out that it works with a .txt file.
Is the anything that needs to be included in the php script?

I have managed to find the answer.
The PHP script had a comment line after the echo statement. Once this was removed the application started the work fine in all the browsers.

PRINTING not working properly in OSX Tiger 10.4.10.

For whatever reason whenever I try and print 2 pages or more in Tiger I seem to have issues. I am using a HY Deskjet 842C.
AppleWorks 6.x and Quicken 2005 cannot print documents that are more than 1 page. And I recently just tried MS Word 98 and it also has issues with printing docs more than 1 page.
However I can print web pages that are multiple pages and TEXT files as printed in TEXT EDIT.
What happens when I try and Print is the printer makes strange noises, prints the last page and stops there with the paper stuck in the machine. I then have to yank the paper out or turn the printer off.
Anyone got any tips?

I deleted the HP Deskjet 842C printer driver and re-added it, and the problem seems to have vanished (for the moment). I can know print in Quicken, AppleWorks and Word.
However what I do not understand is why I could print 2-3 page web documents in FireFox, and 1 page docs in Word. If I was having a printer error, strange why I still could print in some ways.
As good as OSX is, its lagging in a few areas over OS 9. But not to say I would ever go back. But printing is something I almost never ha a problem with in my OS 7-9 days.
Printing seems to be a common problem in X.

Internet not working on Mac side, but works with Parallel Desktop

I recently uninstalled Parallel desktop and noticed my internet on my mac stopped working, the diag said internet and server failed with red lights
I then reinstalled Parallel, and the internet works, but only with windows
I have a macbook pro '13 10.6.8
Any suggestions?? This is driving my crazy !!

Finder is not working properly mac osx 10.8.4

Hello,
Just recently Finder has stopped behaving as it normally would. Clicking the icon doesn't seem to launch the finder window. I have to right click the finder icon and then click New Finder Window. Sometimes there is no response for sometime and then finally it does open a window.
Can anybody please help me out?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

Internet Not working Properly.

When im using internet in my iPhone4 for a long time ( 2-4 Hours) then frequently the connectivity stopping the responce from server.
the safari displaying the massage that "the server could not responding".
it is happening when im in a good internet connectivity(Wi-Fi or 3G).
if i go to airplaine mode and come back then i can reconnect the internet .
what is happening with the server??

Finder is not working properly mac osx 10.7.4 it no longer launches a new window when I click the finder icon - I have to right click and open a new window

Just recently Finder has stopped behaving as it normally would. Clicking the icon doesn't seem to launch the finder window. I have to right click the finder icon and then click New Finder Window. Sometimes there is no response for sometime and then finally it does open a window. If I click finder when a wondow is open it does not shift focus to finder anymore. I am sure this did not use to be the case?
PS. not sure if this is how to put things on the forum as haven't used them before!

Click on the spotlight icon in the top right of your screen (looks like a magnifying glass), type
Terminal
and press 'return'.
In the window that opens up, paste or type this exactly into the window
killall Finder; killall Dock
(that's case sensitive) and press 'return'.
You'll notice the Dock disappear for a second or two then return, as do any open Finder windows.
Test using Finder as normal. Same problem?

Front Row doesn't work properly in OSX 10.5

I'm having a problem with Front Row not working properly in OSX 10.5
iPhoto transitions aren't working properly in the slide shows, My monitor keeps turning off,
I have a KDS 17" LCD monitor.
Also iMovie will show movies with big blank gaps in the video,
Yet iPhoto and iMovie will run fine using OSX 10.4.10
The other iApps of iLife 08 appear to be alright so far.
Is there a fix coming?

Figured it out...
The "Front Row" settings were set for a screensaver, That's why the monitor kept blanking out,
I've turned off the screensaver in the settings and "Front Row" works fine now.
There is no screensaver image chosen, That's why the screen kept going blank or even off.
Hope this helps others.

My mac book pro fell of my desk, everything seems fine, but the dvd drive is not working properly, any suggestions

My mac book fell of my desk yesterday. All seems well, but I noticed today that the dvd drive is not working properly, it seems to want to keep ejecting the disk even when the disk is out, and it won't accept dvd's any more. Any suggestions o fellow apple users?

Back up EVERYTHING, then take it in to have them assess for any latent damage. Wouldn't want a similar "delayed reaction" from the hard disk drive, would we?

Flash Player installed but not working properly

I have Windows 7 64 bit, and run IE11.
I have Adobe Flash Player installed.
It works fine on my login (administrator) but my young Son can not watch video's, as it says Flash Player is not installed.
How do I fix this please?

Flash Player has updated to 11.87.800.175 today; is it working better?
