Internet performance and dropped connections

I am at a complete loss as to how to get my internet service problems resolved.
I talk to your tech (?) people and cannot get them to comprehend that:
1 – Often I have to sign in every time I access the internet from home, even though I check the stay signed in for 2 weeks box.
2 – Your server goes down, sometimes several times a day. Your rocket scientist techs claim it is not the server. When I do diagnostics, my machine states the server is down!!!!!
I am not the only Verizon DSL customer in the area having this problem and it has been going on for at least two years.
I don’t need apologies from your off-shore clowns.
I have such a simple request – FIX the **bleep** equipment

I am sorry to hear about the problems with your service. We would like to help you out. So we can get more information from you, I have copied your post to our private support board. Please refer all correspondences to there from here on out. You can easily get to the private support one of two ways. In the email you signed up for the forums with, you will receive a link to click on. Make sure you are already signed into the forums before clicking on this link. Another way of getting there is by clicking on your username anywhere you see it in the forums. This brings you to your account profile. Scroll down to the section labeled "My Support Cases" . • Slow internet speeds and dropping connection

hello, I am making this post on behalf of my dad, for a good few months (5-6 maybe even longer) we have been experiencing slow internet speeds and a dropping connection when ever the phone is picked up. when an incoming call is answered some or all devices connected to the internet drop out for a second then come back online, the connection does not completly disapear but causes any voice chat, streaming or gaming to disconect. We have BT wireless phones (not sure what exact type) which we have had for a few years. they are connected through an ADSL filter which as far i can remember has been there for years. We have a netgear DG834GT router which has also been there for a few years. I went onto its settings and got this information, not sure if its usefull or not.

For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.4 Mbps-2 Mbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :1.76 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1.25 Mbps
I hope this is enough information to figure out what is going on with it.

put everything back as it was and this is what it looks like now:

  • Internet slow and wireless connection keeps dropping

So, my iMac crashed and I had to reinstall. That really sucked.
Pre-crash I was amazed by the speed and reliability of my internet connection. We're talking girlish glee.
Post-crash/reinstall, my internet is a plodding monster that takes forever to load simple websites at times and drops the connection a couple of times a week.
Can anyone help? I'm assuming it's a software issue since my wireless connection was fast and reliable before reinstalling.

    Hi,
If you are still having problems.......
I'm assuming it's a software issue since my wireless connection was fast and reliable before reinstalling.
    Try changing the Airport channel.
    Open AirPort Utility (Applications/Utilities)
Select the device you’re setting up on the left and then click Manual Setup. Enter the base station password if necessary.
Click AirPort in the toolbar, and then click Wireless.
Choose a new channel from the Channel pop-up menu.
If that doesn't help, on your iMac, go to /Library/Preferences. Move all the files in the System Configuration folder to the Trash, restart the iMac.

  • Slow and dropping connection WRT300n v 2/WMP300 v 2

    Slow an dropping connections on WRT300n v 2/WMP300 v 2 updated with latest firmware/driver.
Before update it gave a speed of 3-4 mbit/s and after update about 30 mbit/s, this is just a bit better(10-13%) than the D-link products (604/AP2000+/DWL-G510) i intended too let go of old age.
For E-mail and surfing the web this speed is ok, but sharing files and use a mediacenter its not ok.
Next problem is that after about 30-40 min of full load the router just dropps all connections and reboots or what ever.
The Linksys products WRT300N/WMP300 is not a what a expected it too be

  • Lenovo G505 Wifi Problems - Limited Connection, No Connection, and Dropped Connections

Some forum members have reported a variety of Wifi issues with their G505 laptops. Their reports range from showing "Connection is limited", to Wifi connections dropping repeatedly, to being unable to make a Wifi connection at all. I combined multiple threads in order to assist forum members with troubleshooting solutions.
If your G505 was upgraded to Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and then lost connectivity, or you recently purchased a G505 running Windows 8.0 or 8.1 and are unable to connect, try following the instructions posted by Vikramsbox to restore the connection through the Lenovo Communications Utility.
For non-Windows 8.0 or 8.1 users, start troubleshooting with the basics:
The most recent WLAN, BIOS, and Power Management drivers from Lenovo can be downloaded here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-g-series-laptops/lenovo-g505-no...
It is also good practice to verify your Wifi is activated by following the instructions from Neokenchi.
Check Power Management settings to ensure your laptop isn't turning off the Wifi as noted by Dannyk1.
Check to see that Airplane Mode is set to OFF by following the instructions provided by Shiv_K.
After trying those steps, if you still experience a Wifi issue with your G505, other troubleshooting steps have been noted in this thread. This includes a whitelist of accepted replacement WLAN cards posted by Topmahof and a 3rd party driver which resolved wifi issues for Miila and Jessemck125. Please note that while Lenovo does not support 3rd part drivers, it may be an option to consider if your laptop is out of warranty and none of the suggestions in the thread resolve the issue.

First computer was a 1980 Commodore 64 from Radio Shack/ GEnie SFRT member from 1993-1996

First is to update your Atheros/Broadcom driver for your G505 here:http://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/wlan117w8.exe
From what I understand, the situation is that you get limited connectivity while your other devices that are connected to the router gets uninterrupted internet access.
After updating your drivers, you can try to flush your DNS cache by copy and pasting this code to your notepad and saving it as FlushDNS.bat
    @Echo on
    pushd\windows\system32\drivers\etc
    attrib -h -s -r hosts
    echo 127.0.0.1 localhost>HOSTS
    attrib +r +h +s hosts
    popd
    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    ipconfig /flushdns
    netsh winsock reset all
    netsh int ip reset all
    shutdown -r -t 1
    del %0
Note that this will restart your computer so make sure to save your session first.
Here's the link that explains the benefit of flushing DNS: http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/144365-network-posting-tips.html
Hope this resolves your random "limited connectivity" problem.

  • Dual Band (5ghz and 2.4 ghz) Wireless Network Config and Dropped Connection

Hi, I have an Airport Extreme (802.11N) and a Motorola WR850G (802.11A/B/G) that I'm trying to connect in a dual band setup - but something in my setup is causing the Airport to drop it's connection (before the connection is dropped - everything works great). After I lose connectivity, both routers show up in my list of wireless networks, the light stays green, but I don't have local or internet access. When I try to reconnect, the log on times out. Also, the Airport isn't displayed in the Airport Utility (light is green on the airport itself though). Unplugging and resetting the Airport Allows all computers on the network to connect locally and to the internet for a few hours until the connection drops again. While it is up and running, I have no problems streaming movies off the connected Airdisk, navigating the internet, and connecting both N and G devices to the network.
I'd love to hear from you if you've gotten a similar setup to work, and if possible, have you provide the settings you used to make this work. I've looked around quite a bit and haven't seen a detailed description of the process (even from the Apple documentation). Also, advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated since my wireless networking knowledge is pretty basic.
    My configuration:
Time Warner cable modem connected to the Airport's WAN port. WR850G connected by LAN port to Airport's LAN port. Bridge Mode check box selected on WR850G. Airport setup for 802.11n (5Ghz). Unique SSIDs to determine which network is 'N'. Same password for both networks. My Firmware and utilities are up to date.
    Computers/Devices on Network:
Two Macs with Airport Extreme N cards. A Vista PC with a D-link N card (only compatible with 2.4 Ghz so it connects to the G network). A Vista PC with a GB ethernet card connected to the Airport Extreme. Various other G devices like iPod touches and an old iBook. Airdisk connected to the Airport Extreme.
    Thanks,

I removed the second router (Moto wr850g) and everything seems to be working smoothly. It must be some settings on that one that are causing the problem, but I haven't been able to get it configured correctly. I noticed there were some IP conflicts with my wireless wanting to use the old Moto router IP and trying to assign my Mac an IP from that router. Does anyone know specifically what needs to be disabled on a router in bridge mode? Since I have a third party router there aren't any handy wizards that can configure it for me.
    Thanks again

  • Airport Constantly Scanning and Dropping Connection

I have a new Macbook Air and within the last couple of weeks, Airport is constantly scanning even while it is connected to a network. As a consequence, I keep losing connection and re-loading web pages. This was not an issue initially.
Also, I have a Macbook that has the same issue. Again, this just started in the last few weeks.
Most concerning is that the PCs in the house are not having this issue, so it is not a modem/router issue.
I have repaired permissions on both Macs. Any other suggestions?

I have been reading up on this same issue ever since the 10.6.7 update was released by Apple.
My problem is slightly different to yours but it boils down to the same thing - wifi does not work as you would expect it to after shelling out in excess of £1500 for a laptop. That in itself is absolutely pathetic.
There are various workarounds that have been proposed by members on the other forums on this website, such as resetting PRAM and creating a new network location but they are merely temporary fixes, and I mean very temporary fixed. I am lucky to get half an hour online without my internet connection coming to a crawling halt, or the Airport Menu Bar displaying an exclamation mark, or the connection randomly dropping. It is ridiculous.
I have used Apple laptops longer than I care to remember but recently all Apple seem to be focused on is garbage like IPads. I am sick to death of having a laptop that is incapable of maintaining a steady Wi-Fi connection.
Why are Apple focusing on developing OS Lion when Snow Leopard has been a heap of junk ever since it arrived? Leopard was bulkier but at least it was stable and to be perfectly honest the difference in speed that I noticed between Leopard and Snow Leopard were minimal.
I find it absolutely disgusting that a £200 Windows laptop has absolutely no issue connecting to something as basic as Wifi but Apple, with it's reputation for uncompromising quality cannot even release an update without screwing up something as essential as Wi-Fi. There is talk of incorporating 3G into the new line of Apple laptops but I would just be grateful if they could get Wifi working properly. I refuse to Windows machines because frankly I don't know how to. It is absolutely shambolic that Apple cannot be bothered to release an update to fix the wifi on my laptop that they screwed up with their update.

  • Poor performance and unidasd connections are getting closed and re-opened

The problem is due to the unidasd daemon looking for some orphaned
Calendar users in LDAP and it is resulting in the snc broker dropping
unidasd connections (processes that handle LDAP connections) if the
result of an LDAP search for a Calendar user comes back with no match.
    <P>
For "Found dead connection" of "Service = unidas" problems, you need to correct
the process of managing the Directory Server, i.e., always shut down the Calendar
Server before shutting down the Directory Server and then starting the Calendar
Server after the Directory Server has started. Or you may need to make sure the
Directory Server is configured properly, i.e., the parameter idletimeout should
be set to zero-- never timeout-- (see article 1783 for more info),
or you need to get the Calendar Server and Directory Server back in sync.
    <P>
This last point can be accomplished by using a new Calendar Server tool, unidsdiff,
to identify any user or resource objects that are out of sync and another new
Calendar Server tool, unireqchk, to identify any user or resource requests
in the CWS queue that are no longer in the directory server. Both these tools
    can be downloaded from http://help.netscape.com/business/filelib.html#caltools.

As far as I can see, that Verizon Jet Pack wireless Modem uses WPA2 to connect.
The Router might complicate things right now.

  • Not responsive wireless mouse and keyboard, No internet/wifi and Bluetooth connection.

    Hi,
I need help as both my wireless mouse and wireless keyboard are totally no responsive and I replaced them with fresh new batteries. My wifi/internet connection is offline too. My Bluetooth signal is the Bluetooth with jagged lines "Bluetooth offline". I tried to disconnect all my USB devices and restarted. I tried the methods listed here but to no avail.
Yesterday afternoon there was a lightning in the skies and it caused blackout throughout my whole house. So it might be due to the power surge from the Lightning but all my other devices like my iPhone and modem router are working fine. I restarted the router too. It was fine the whole evening till nighttime yesterday. This morning I woke up, I can't do anything at all.

First thing to try is resetting the PRAM per the instructions below. If that does not work then please use the instructions on how to connect a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard below.

  • 10.4.2 eMacs and Dropping connections

For the past couple weeks I've had 4 labs of 30 eMac just randomly dropping their connections. Server/Web/anything, if I reboot they sometimes just come up to the start up white screen and sit there. If I put them to sleep the connection comes back. Sucessful restart and they are back. ifconfig en0 down and up they are back. But WHY does it keep dropping the connections? Update to 10.4.4? We use DHCP but I've checked the logs and it's had the same ip (lease for 60 days on day 30 it goes and checks if that computer has used that address and then keeps it the same) since September. And it's only these eMacs running tiger as well as dropping wireless on carts (though I know what the problem is there). Any suggestions?

We put a sniffer on yesterday and it seems that the DHCP server is telling them to get an IP but they won't take it. If you unplug the ethernet cable it wakes up and grabs an IP. This is truely strange. This happens on ANY 10.4 machine with DHCP.

  • How do I stop FaceTime on my MacBook Pro from freezing and dropping connection constantly?

I only have this issue with FaceTime on my MacBook Pro; FaceTime works fine on my iPad Mini and iPhone 5S. I'll be talking with someone over FaceTime and it will randomly freeze and/or say it's lost the connection and I usually have to turn my Wifi off and on again and it reconnects. Every time I click on the Wifi icon in the top it says it's looking for networks. Why would it be looking for networks? It's almost always within 10-15 feet of my wireless router and nothing else in my house has an issue maintaining a connection with it. Is there some kind of unnecessary setting on my MacBook Pro that tells it to constantly search for other networks even though I've only set it up for one network?

Were you able to download and save the DMG (disk image file) for Firefox?
If there are problems with updating or permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (DMG) file to the desktop
    *Firefox 16.0.2: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Trash the current Firefox application (e.g. open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re-)install
Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the Firefox disk image (DMG) file and drag the Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.<br />
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.
