Internet port problem
i am a using a WRT54GH linksys router.. which was working fine for a year.. there was thunderstorm and lightning a few days back.. since then my routers internet port (the first port which says internet in yellow) has stopped working...can some please help me with this
thanks in advance !!
to do the RESET, use a ballpoint pen or a paper clip. stick it into the RESET hole in the back where the ports are. press and hold the button for 30 seconds. the power light should go blinking at one point... wait for a couple of minutes or so and the power light should go solid. if the power light still flashes after 2 minutes, turn of the router by taking out the power cord. wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. the powerlight will go blinking initially but should stay solid after about a couple of minutes.
by the way, is the power light currently flashing or is it steady? from the looks of it, after you tried the test suggested by opheliaimmortal23, the ports may be busted. in which case, the device may already be bricked/ defective.

To begin, IP addresses for ALL devices on my network are static and manually assigned, no DHCP, in case that matters at all. My problem is that when I plug my DSL modem into the Internet port on the back of my router it doesn't even see the modem and obviously I can't get on the internet. However, I can plug the modem into any of the other Ethernet ports on the router and it sees the modem just fine and I can use the internet. I don't quite understand this. It hasn't caused any problems at all, but I find it strange. This problem has existed with both the stock firmware as well as Tomato firmware. What can I do to get my modem to work through the Internet port instead of the regular ethernet ports? Please take into consideration that I am using the latest Tomato firmware. Thanks all!
Press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. The Power light will start flashing. Turn the Router and the Modem OFF. Turn the modem ON first, wait for 10 seconds, turn the router ON, wait for 10 seconds, you should be ONLINE !!!

Internet Port Stopped Working?
I have an interesting problem. I bought this wrk54g wireless router about a year ago and I hadn't used it for about a month or so and everything was working fine before I stopped using it and now after I have plugged it in and set it up correctly (as far as I know) it is not working. It is working though if I plug the (Internet Source) Cable into one of the normal ports on the router and not into the internet port. I am confused about this but I have thought about it and I am thinking that the internet port on the router stopped functioning. Anyone have any ideas on this matter?
Thanks for your replies if any.access the router using http://192.168.1.1 . Logon by entering the password..by default , it is "admin"...once on the ui , go to "Mac Address Clone" subtab , enable it and click "Clone your PC's MAC"....save the settings...unplug the power cable from the router and then the modem for a minute...plug the power cable in the modem and then after a minute , plug the router power cable....check the ip add under the status tab on the router ui....

EA4500 Internet Port Cycles On and Off Every Few Second
I bought a EA4500 to replace my old WRT54G earlier this year. At first the router worked fine. After the automatic firmware upgrade to Cisco Connect Cloud, I was never able to get the Connect Cloud stuff to work, constant 500 Internal Server errors when trying to access the router with the Internet cable attached. So I downgraded back to the old firmware and all was well again. Then I started having problems a few months ago, when I would wake up in the morning, the router would be cycling the Internet port on and off. I could usually reboot everything and it would work the rest of the day. I lived with it like this a while, and support couldn't seem to find anything wrong. Eventually it started getting worse, until the point I could hardly ever get it to stay connected. I got Cisco to RA the old router and I figured problem solved. Now while the EA4500 was gone, I used my WRT54G again, and everything worked fine for nearly two weeks while I was waiting on the replacement EA4500.
So today the new EA4500 showed up, I connected and configured it, and it worked for a short time. Then suddenly I lost Internet, looked up at the modem and the LAN light was going on and off every few seconds. So I'm back in the same boat as before.
I've tried changing cables, same setup works fine with the WRT54G. Modem works fine with WRT54G and connected directly to the computer, zero problems. I tried lowering the MTU, turning on MAC address cloning, and various other things.
My modem is a HughesNet HN9000.
Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly apprecaited.
DavidOK, the setup as is works fine with the WRT54G, just the EA4500 has the issue. It started working again last night, and was working this morning. It continued to work until about 3:15 PM today, and out of the blue, my computer came up and said the Ethernet connection went off, then it came back on, it did this several times...at the same time, I looked up at the modem, and the LAN light was going on and off on it also. So the router was cycling both the Internet and Port 1 on and off.
My HN9000 has a static public IP, and the IP it's DHCP server gives out is one digit different than it's own IP.
My router is set this way, and this is what it gets if I switch the Internet to Automatic (DHCP):
IPv4 Address: 97.xxx.xxx.194
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.252
Default Gateway: 97.xxx.xxx.193
Then there are two DNS server addresses. I've tried the router setup as Static IP or Automatic (DHCP) and the problem occurs either way.
The HN9000 seems to pass all incoming traffic straight to the router.
One the LAN side, the router is configured to give out IP's in the 192.168.1.x range, and I have some static leases set. The router is 192.168.1.1.
Everything works with the computer connected directly to the modem, and with the WRT54G in place of the EA4500.
As far as calling Hughes, they won't support the router. If it works without the router, and with another router, they will say it's a problem with the router, which I think it is, just not sure what. Also, just to be clear, I do loose Internet access on my computer when the router acts up, but the HughesNet modem remains connected to the Internet. -
RG54G2 Wireless Router Internet Connection Problem
Hi,
(apologies for the long message - trying to cover all details - summary: wireless router often drops internet connection)
I recently bought an RG54G2 Wireless Router, a CB54G2 PCMCIA Wireless card and a D-Link GWL-630 PCMCIA Wireless card. In addition to two laptops connected to the wireless router WLAN, I have two PCs (one Win WP Pro SP 1 and one Win98SE) connected to the router via wired LAN. I also have a SurfBoard SB3100 Cable Modem connected to the WAN port (this connects to my ISP - Optusnet (Australia) via DHCP).
The problem I have is that the internet connection is disconnected many times a day (often every few minutes, sometimes an hour or so). I am able to reconnect by resetting the wireless router via the wireless router configuration page. When the internet is disconnected I am still able to access the computers on the LAN/WLAN (via Windows Explorer and Ping), I am also able to ping the router and the Cable Modem, but nothing outside of the cable modem.
Also, when the internet is disconnected the System Status page indicates that the router is still connected to the internet, and the Diagnostics page passes the Test Connection test, though no external pings work.
I did not have this problem when the cable modem was connected directly to the Win98SE PC (and other PCs via ICS).
I have disabled the WLAN and the problem still exists with only the wired LAN.
I have changed numerous settings in the wireless router config page with no success (eg disabling DHCP and setting each IP address, minimising LAN and WLAN speeds to 10 and 11MBps plus others).
I have upgraded the wireless router firmware to R1.0.6.0 (no change to the problem).
Searching on Google I have found several other cases of routers with unstable internet connections (none refering to the MSI routers), but none had solutions that helped my situation (most replies suggested updating the firmware).
Any suggestions of how to make the router internet connection stable?
Thanks,
Mikemaybe this is the FIX 4 wireles router internet connection problem
please let me know if any one fix the problem with this tips
thankz

Subject: SOLUTION to my router loosing connection to Windows XP
Reply | Reply to Author | Forward | Print | Individual Message | Show original | Report Abuse
I am happy to report that after 8 days of constant battles, reboots, phone
calls, cable pulling, router changing, it seems that I finally have found a
combination that has had me using Verizon DSL account for over 12 hours so
far without any kind of interruptions.
Since so many of you tried giving me comments and suggestions, I felt that
it is necessary for me to post this here so that the next person will not
(hopefully) need to go through this hell as I did!
My original problem was that when after I purchased a D-Link Wireless Router
DI-624, I would get disconnected from Verizon DSL at least once every 2
hours or so. My internet access would "freeze" and then a little popup box
at the bottom right system tray would tell me that the "LAN cable has been
unplugged". After about a minute or so, my internet connection would be
back working This was NEVER happening during the 2+ years I was using my
Westell modem alone (running in router mode).
Please keep in mind: The problem I was having was not wireless related as
it was happening to the desktop computer to which the router/westell was
connected to!
During these last 8 days, I tried: one DI-624 wireless router, two Netgear
614v3 routers and two Linksys WRT54G v.2 routers. In addition, I received a
brand new Westell 2200 modem from Verizon. I also tried about four
different CAT-5 cables. Here is the final outcome:
I have the Linksys WRT54G (version 2) wireless router connected to the
Netgear Fast Ethernet FA310TX network card in Auto-Sense mode (using the
built-in XP drivers, as Netgear told me that there was never a newer
revision released). I have DISABLED the built-in 3Com Gigabit LOM (3C940)
network card (via the ASUS P4C800 Deluxe motherboard BIOS), DISABLED the
Zero Wireless Configuration service, and have put in the IP/Gateway/DNS
address numbers inside my Windows XP Network Connections | LAN setup. My
operating system is Windows XP Pro SP1 and the modem is a Westell 2200
configured as bridge only.
If my situation continues to be stable, I *might* try to go back to the 3Com
built-in card (disable any power management) and then re-enabling the Zero
Wireless Configuration services. But in reality, I am happy with the way
things are and have already spent enough time trying to get my router to
work with Verizon DSL without having it drop connections!
Now, the next step will be setting up the WIRELESS part of this. I don't
even yet have a laptop with me on the premises, but the 802.11g card that I
already have is the D-Link DWL-G650. I hope and assume that this will work
okay with the Linksys...
One thing I must say is that I never realized that how many problems other
users are having. I would have thought that since 802.11x has been around
in the mainstream by now 2+ years, that things would have been much more
"system friendlier". And again, my issues were not even WIRELESS related.
All 3 tech supports were not really helpful, as none of them realized that
the problem is somehow between the router and Windows XP (Ethernet card?)
loosing a connection, which of course results in Verizon DSL loosing the
connection also.
One other comment about the Netgear 614 v.3 router: A number of people have
responded to tell me that they have had this random "router resetting"
happen to them (where the routers behaves as if someone turned the power off
and then back on, and the lights flash) just as if you first turn it on). I
was lucky to witness it myself during one of the "disconnects" that I had.
This was actually the reason why I went back to try the Linksys one more
time. So, I would definitely recommend staying way from this 614 (version
3) model.
Once again - THANK YOU everyone! -
Airport Internet Sharing Problem Mini - PC Laptop
Airport Internet Sharing Problem
My setup is:
Cable Modem -> Mac Mini --> PC Laptop
... with the connection between the mac mini and the PC laptop being the built-in mac mini airport using internet sharing.
Hi, I've been trying to set up Airport internet sharing with the mini, to no avail. It works off & on, but invariably the internet connections drop after about 10 minutes. The only way to get it started again, is to go into internet sharing, turn off internet sharing, then turn it on again. It will work for another 10 minutes or so (slow) after gong back to the PC laptop and reconnecting, then it chokes again.
I've tried the connection both with & without WEP, same behavior. I read somewhere that OS X only plays well with using Channel 1, so I tried that. No luck. Tried with and without Interference Robustness, no luck.
Tried with WEP on and using 40 bit hex keys using a "$" prepend in the mac as suggested on this web page:
http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20030803030354585
Same behavior, works for 10 minutes, then it chokes again.
Tried with & without the firewall.
Yes, personal web sharing is on.
The PC laptop works fine with any number of other wireless routers out & about town, at my girlfriend's house, so forth.
Any chance I have a bum mac mini wireless card or antennae or something? The reception strength on the PC laptop is good.
Just don't know what to make of it. So stupid, it seems like something pretty basic that ought to work.
Yeah yeah tell me to get a wireless router, but I'm not going to do that, that's one major reason I bought the mini in the first place and it would be nice if it worked as advertised.
Any other suggestions?Works better now...
this is me again. A week ago or so, I noticed there was an automatic update to the wireless on the mac mini.
Since then the performance is much improved. My PC laptop connection to the mac mini no longer drops spontaneously.
Much improved! Thank you very much!
Yes, on occasion, when I leave and then come back to use the wireless, the laptop will not reconnect after multiple attempts; I have to turn of internet sharing and flick it back on again, but then it works all evening fore hours and hours straight with no problems.
Thanks Apple! It's usable now! -
I have a BTHub4 - My iMac, iPhone, and children's iPads all connect to the internet no problem. I cannot get my 2 MacBook Pros or my partners MacBook Air to connect. Have tried diagnostics - says to change DNS but it is correct. I have re-set both router and all laptops - no joy. They can all see the network but cannot connect.
This is extraordinary. I have moved the router and also tried resetting it to its factory strings. We have had this router for over a year and all our devices have always worked. Now all four laptops will not connect to the internet. Only one oMac and our phones and iPad.
I have had far more devices running at once before but now all laptops are timing out on connection. Some say this iIP address is already being used but if I manually set to a slightly different IP address it does not help, noir if I manually set to the correct IP address. Why would all our laptops (four) suddenly be unable to connect? -
Wrt610n Internet port connection
I know this a dumb question but what kind of cable do i need for the internet port on my wrt610? I have a bunch of cat5e and cat6 cables all of which fit into all the other ports and snap into place but not in the internet port. The blue cable that comes wit it doesn't fit. I was told by the customer service rep on the phone that it took regular phone cord when i told her that was definately not the case she said i just need a "regular cable" but was unable to explain what she meant by that. I was then told at best buy that i need a cat6 cable which did not fit either. all the cables i've tried will provide connection but aren't secure. Is there another type of cable i need to use or is this thing just defective?
The blue cable that came with the router should fit into the Internet Port, a CAT 5 Ethernet Cable shoult fit into the Internet Port...
Maybe the Port is broken and that's why none of the cables fit there... -
"Internet Mail - Problem during delivery processing" email received
Every email I'm receiving as of this morning is accompanied by an email from [email protected], entitled "Internet Mail - Problem during delivery processing"
Is this an issue on the Mac server side or a problem with my Mail app?
Many thanks in advance. My Wife and I both have an Ipad and an iPhone, I use an iMac and my wife a MacBook Pro.
I have this problem with all my devices.
My wife has NOT got this problem.
We both use a [email protected] email acount.
Just compared the settings:
For "Incoming server" I have p03-imap.mail.me.com
My Wife has p02-imap.mail.me.com .... and has not got this problem.
I have setup a new rule for incoming mails (for the meantime):

Is Apple going to fix Yosemite"s internet connection problem?
Nobody here knows any more than you do about what Apple is going to do. If you want help from other end users with your problem, you'll have to describe it in more detail.

Omni 10 mostly internet connection problem, also difficulties responding generally
Dear all,
For two weeks now i am proud owner of an omni 10 tablet. However, i already encountered some problems like the loss of the audio System, which was luckily restored with the help of the hp support via telephone.
Unfortunately, my tablet is not properly connecting to the internet since yesterday. It also has problems opening PDF files with 'adobe read', deleting or newly creating appointments in the challenger app and foremost it sometimes does not open the settings section depite repeatedly tapping on its button..
Most important currently is the internet connection problem. Is connects but says at the same time that the connection is limited. Additionally, it does not offer any solutions to this. That happend with three differend routers so far..
I hope you can help me
GreetingsThe only thing I can suggest is for you to follow as many steps in this document as you can: Troubleshooting Wireless Network
