Internet searching question

Thanks in advance to anyone who answers my question. Here it is, when I search the internet ,like with Google, I type in a few letters in the search box and a number of choices appear of places I've searched previously. But sometimes my kids use my computer and I don't want them to know some of the things I search for. The question is, is there away to delete specific items from this list or the entire list?

dooma
I don't think you understood my suggestion. By different accounts I mean different logins to OS X with passwords. That way if you lock your display before leaving it, your kids can never get to see what you've been doing on Safari. You can all be logged in at the same time. Each user would be running their own independent copy of Safari, Mail and any other application for that matter.

  • How to download OS X Mavericks for free? ... i tried apps but it asks for bank details.  I did internet search but it refers me back to Apple Apps. I hope you can help me.  TQ

    I want to update my Macbook 2010 and am advised OS X Mavericks is free, but when i go to Apple Apps it asks my banking details.
    I have never purchased an App (yet).  I did an internet search for answer and it also sais FREE but when i open the link it takes me back to Apple Apps.
    Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question.

    You must have an Apple ID and an iTunes/App Store account that will request credit card information. In order to download free apps: Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, and Mac App Store account without a credit card. Please read it very carefully.

    Try clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)
    If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • When I open a new tab, an internet search option pops up that Idid not OK or install. I can't find where to get rid of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    When I open a new tab, I just want it to be blank. I think it may be hijacked but I can't find how to delete/erase the internet search that pops up instead. It's called internet search and just has a magnifying glass as a logo.

    Clearing the cache fixed this for me. Before doing this though, I HIGHLY recommend booting into safe mode (assuming you are using Windows) and run the latest version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware [http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php].
    UPDATE: Well...that worked for a while. That page is back. I still recommend scanning your machine if you have not yet done so.
    UPDATE 2: I've found that the application causing the issue is "Cartoonly", which you should see as an extension. You can't remove it from Firefox, you can only disable it. Search your entire computer for "Cartoonly" (even if you have ran MBAM as suggested above) and delete EVERYTHING having to do with that garbage. Your new tabs should be clean and the extension should be gone as well. :)

    If you mean tabbed browsing in Safari that is on iOS 5 on the iPad as opposed to the thumbnail browsing from iOS 4 then you can't, that is how it now works. You can try leaving feedback for Apple and see if we get a choice in a future iOS update : http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • Internet search engine

    hello iam trying to get the simple Java applet that searches multiple Internet search engines. can any one help me
    how to do in simple way....

    Hi,
    Please go through the above site you will find excellent codes.
    Anyhow here is the sample Applet Search engine code.
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.applet.*;
    import java.net.*;
    import java.io.*;

    /* Applet parameters:
    * This applet takes two parameters
    * a. hostname, the name of the Demon Home Page (e.g babbage). The name is
    * converted to lower case and used to create the URL of the
    * pages to search i.e. http://www.<hostname>.demon.co.uk.
    * (this parameter is required for Demon Internet users
    * only)
    * b. IPaddress, the corresponding IP address for the Home Page. I plan to
    * use it as it will allow the search applet to run from
    * behind a firewall. Demon have stated in the HomePage AUP
    * that the IP address should not be directly used. I do not
    * recommend its use (the www.babbage.demon.co.uk IP address
    * has already changed once)
    * (this parameter is optional)
    * c. maxSearch, the maximum number of pages to search. If your site is vast
    * then the search will take a long time so people will give
    * up. This parameter limits the number of pages to be searched
    * to a sensible value reducing the search time (but also
    * reducing its usefullness)
    * (this parameter is optional. Defaults to 100)
    * d. debug, this parameter is for my use. Set to true to display
    * parameter and debug information.
    * (this parameter is optional)
    * e. server, this parameter allows the search applet to be used on non-
    * Demon home pages. This parameter should point to the name
    * of the site, e.g "http://www.myisp.com/me/" (note use of
    * trailing "/" character.
    * (this parameter is required for Non-Demon Internet users)
    * f. indexName, this parameter allows the search applet to be used on non-
    * Demon home pages. This parameter should point to the name
    * of the index page (e.g home.htm). If not set then
    * "index.htm" ot "index.html" is asummed.
    * (this parameter is optional)
    * g. bgColour, The background colour for the applet in RGB hex format
    * (rrggbb). The default is light grey.
    * h. fgColour, The foreground colour for the applet in RGB hex format
    * (rrggbb). The default is black.
    * Example of applet use on a Demon Home Page - www.babbage.demon.co.uk
    * <APPLET CODE="HomePageSearch.class" WIDTH=650 HEIGHT=400>

    /* Modification history
    * xxxx 12th February - alpha version
    * v0.9 19th February - first beta version
    * v0.91 26th February - tidy up
    * - added maxSearch functionality
    * - added debugMode parameter
    * v0.92 03rd March - added server and indexname parameters to
    * allow use on non-Demon home pages
    * v0.93 09th March - fixed bug with lowercase filenames
    * added case insensitive/sensitive/match whole
    * word functionality
    * v0.94 12th March - fixed bug which resulted in "cannot connect"
    * error on non-demon sites.
    * v0.95 15th March - Removed some uses of debugMode. Server parameter
    * can be set to http://localhost/ to simulate this.
    * - Added support for working behind proxy servers/
    * firewalls. This uses the IP Address rather than
    * the hostname of the server for connections.
    * v0.96 17th March - Corrected code to parse HREFs. It was not
    * understanding framed format or spaces.
    * - Match whole word not working properly
    * - HREF="http://server/" was not being followed
    * correctly
    * v0.97 20th March - fixed bug where incorrect page name was being
    * displayed for a match. This was due to the use
    * of a global variable for the page name. As the
    * stack unwound then this variable was lost. Stack
    * used to stored page name instead.
    * v0.98 23rd March - if match found on index page (using HTTP) then URL to
    * jump to was created incorrectly.
    * v0.99 25th March - allow to be resized < 600 pixels
    * allow handling of links such as
    * "/www/page.html"
    * v1.0 8th April - Added bgColour, fgColour applet parameters
    * Set default of 100 for maximum number pages to search
    * Added option menu for number of pages to search
    * Allow handling of framed links such as
    * <FRAME SRC="framepage.html">
    * v1.1 18th April - Display Page title rather than page name in list of
    * matches.
    * If match found on index page (using FILE://) then
    * URL to jump to was created incorrectly.
    * Broke the <= 600 pixels code by adding the "Max
    * Pages" option menu. Size of buttons adjusted to
    * allow all widgets to be display in < 600 pixles
    * v1.2 9th May - Removed hard limits by using vectors rather than
    * arrays.
    * Search the index page and index page links first.
    * Added internalisation support for titles. A subset
    * of the special character entity names (e.g &egrave;)
    * are converted into Unicode characters so that they
    * are displayed correctly.
    * Fixed bug - "match word" did not match the last word
    * on a line.
    * v1.3 8th July - Bug fix release
    * Links with single quotes e.g
    * Test Page
    * were not being searched
    * fgColour and bgColour only worked with UNIX browsers!
    * Fixed to allow useage with MS Windows browsers,
    * although due to limitations in Win32 AWT the colour
    * of buttons and their text cannot be changed.
    * v1.4 4th August - Bug fix release
    * Single quote HREF fix in v1.3 broke some normal
    * HREF link code (no </A> on same line as HREF).
    * v1.5 15th February - Applet now searches .txt files
    * Fixed bug for demon internet users who use index
    * pages other than index.htm and index.html
    * Added further lower case localisation support

  • Second Internet Provider Question

    Hi guys,
    I hope you can help me with this question.
    I have a provider router connecting to my ASA, this also connects to the Internet and provides access for remote users to dial in. The provider router allows us to configure a 'LAN' IP address which corresponds to our internal addressing scheme and a WAN/Public IP address. The NAT is configured on the provider router. The outside interface on the ASA is configured with a private IP Address in the same subnet as the provider LAN IP address.
    This works and is sufficient for the majority of our users however we have a subset of users with additional requirements for which a new DSL line has been installed and I would like these users (and only these users) to dial in via the new interface.
    I have configured the interface as ouside_bonded and created an ssl vpn portal to distribute to these users pointing to the new Internet router (please see attached config). The new router can do no Nat'ing so I have had to give the new interface a Public IP Address and added a static route pointing to the new router.
    Config has been edited for brevity but please let me know if I you need a full config.
    What else do I need to do?
    Do I need to create a new VPN pool, do I need to have an additional global command, any NAT statements required? Please advise and be as specific as you possibly can.
    Have a lovely Christmas.
    Cheers,
    Martha.

  • Keyword Search Question

    Newbie Alert:
    I've searched the forum and can't find a solution to a problem I've encountered. I just moved from Bridge to LR3 for managing my images. In Bridge I developed the bad habit of explicitly adding keywords to my images all the way to the parent (a setting in bridge). For example, the keyword hierarchy for one of my images in Bridge might look like.
    Colorado [x]
            Denver [x]
                    DMNS [x]
    Now that I am using LR3, I don't want Denver or Colorado explicitly selected when I choose "DMNS". instead I would like:
    Colorado [-]
            Denver [-]
                    DMNS [x]
    Where Denver and Colorado are implicitly selected. When I do a search for "Colorado" LR seems to return all images that are either implicitly or explicitly tagged with that keyword. I need to select only the images where "Colorado" is explicitly selected.
    How can I do a search to only find the images explicitly tagged "Colorado"? This seems also related to another "newbie" question I have. Bridge allowed for doing queries based on multiple keywords using a basic set of conditionals. In LR3, "Find" doesn't appear to provide that functionality. How can I do find an image where more than one keyword exists but they are not within the same containing keyword? Or, using this example, find all images that have the keyword "Colorado" but do not include "DMNS"?
    Thank you.

    I pretty much consolidated all my keywords once, then never again. It was a PITA even with help from KeywordConsolidator.
    Now I enter keywords in Lightroom, then invoke Keyword Consolidator's keyword form to enter title & caption and double-check/correct keyword entry mistakes on the spot (or add a keyword I had forgotten...), since it displays the whole keyword path in a linear list, its easier to see stuff...
    I hope Adobe considers some keyword entry enhancements:
    - prompt before creating new keywords.
    - display in list form with paths (hard to see what you've really got in paragraph form without paths).
    - plural / singular / synonym detection and handling.
    - and of course: proper handling of spaces and fix 'Contains Words' bug.
    PS - John Ellis has a particularly robust keyword entry alternative if you've interest.
    Have fun,
    Rob

    Yeah i know it supports several cards, SDIO IS one of them. So your saying that if I get one, I should be able to connect to the wireless internet in my house and in my schools hallways.
    I have no personal knowledge of what is required, but I think in my searches I found that people were able to do it with the 700w/wx.

  • PDF in iBooks, search question

    Hi there, I have a client who uses iBooks to view 2 pdfs on her iPad. The pdfs were created in InDesign, 2 different designers (not me). The issue she encountered is with search results in iBooks.
    In the first book, when I search for a particular number, the search results show 1) page number results and 2) text results containing the number. Shown below.
    In the second book, when I search for a particular number, the search results 1) page number results and 2) text results containing the number PLUS a word next to it ("audrey-small"). Shown below.
    Has anyone else experienced this with reading pdfs in iBooks? Is there any way the word "audrey-small" can be taken out so that search results for numbers only show the number? I'm posing this as an InDesign question because the 2 files were built by 2 separate designers and they may have different creation/design processes.
    I don't know if iBooks is the best application for reading pdfs on the iPad, but that's what my client uses. Both books were created in Adobe InDesign. I'm posting this also to the Adobe Forums, but any insight here would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    In the first case, that might be the expected behavior. It seems in iBooks, pdfs don't have the option to go to a certain page # only as you have it with Adobe Reader. It just puts the number in the general search and brings all results containing that number. Regarding the second case, I have no idea why is showing audrey-small.

  • Can you test my internet search agent?

    Hi.
    I've written a program that aids finding information that might be relivent to your intrests in JAVA. It's a client side application that isn't like any search apps I've seen since all they do is query search engine.
    My app called S.I.R.A (Spidering Information Retrieval Agent) learns what you are interested in and while you browse the internet using IE or Netscape it will make suggestion of webpages that might be of interest. These suggestions can easily be ignored if you are busy reading a webpage or can be clicked on to go to that page.
    The program is still at beta stage, but I would really appriciate feedback on how effective and useful you find it. Download it from :- www.padownes.fsnet.co.uk
    I believe it works well along side with search engines ( but then again I would say that I wrote it).
    The program is free to download and is for educational purposes.
    Grateful for your time and opinions.
    Regards
    Phil
    PS. I would be grateful if you could let me know if you are going to test it so that I can find out the spec of your machine.

    Thanks for testing it. I didn't set any settings myself. I just used the default quicktime pro's export movie to ipod setting, so I have no idea about all the multi-pass vbr stuff. Anyway, thank you again for testing it for me.
    If you used the QT Pro Export or iMovie Share Expert "Movie to iPod (320x240)" no setting option, then that is a high-quality, multi-pass preset. (There are two other possible QT Pro/FCX/FCP Export or iMovie Share options than can possibly be used with "manual" settings.) In any case, if this was the result of a 2-pass conversion, would recommend you not use whatever filter was applied to this test. For such a small screen it tends to generate artifacts that resemble the output of a file converted from a really poor quality source. Assume the filter looks much better in a larger screen format.
