Internet security/browser problems

Recently while on the internet, wherever I go, I keep getting the message that I can't get a secure connection. (Nothing has been changed on my computer recently.) I was told by my internet help desk to install a new browser i.e. safari. In my attempts to find it, I've come to the conclusion that it doesn't work for my system. Is a new browser the answer to my security problem or what do you suggest? I'm not very computer savy, so please respond in detailed english, not techy. Thanks

See if updating IE helps any. The latest & last version for your OS would be version 5.1.7. You can download from one the following:
Internet Explorer (Classic) 5.1.7
Internet Explorer 5.1.7
Internet Explorer v5.1.7
"WARNING:" Microsoft ended support for Internet Explorer for Mac on December 31st, 2005, and is not providing any further security or performance updates.
Accordingly, as of January 31st, 2006, Internet Explorer for the Mac is no longer available for download from Microsoft.
If you do continue to use IE, since you have only 128mb of RAM, I would make sure Virtual Memory is on & set to 129mb.
Purchase more real RAM. As much as you can afford.
Increase IE's preferred memory by 200%-300%.

The same directions are also in the OS Mac Help Menu.
After you have installed IE, rebuild your desktop.

=============================
Other browsers for your current OS (yes they are free):
Mozilla v1.3.1(Wamcom)
Netscape Browser Archive
Netscape v7.0.2
MacUpdate-NC v7.0.2
iCab v3
Opera v6.0.3
WannaBe (Text only browser)

Don't laugh, I'm on an old iMac running 9.2.2, using explorer 5.1. Recently while on the internet I keep getting the message that I can't get a secure connection. iMac   Mac OS 9.2.x

Security certificates have a time limit on how long
they will be good for, and for old browsers, the time
limit may have expired. You need to use a newer web
browser to continue accessing secure web sites; the
only Mac OS 9 browser currently being developed is iCab.

    Hello, Neil!
Thank you for taking the time to suggest the use of the iCab browser. I'm trying it out now as I type this reply on my 1999 iBook. This browser works great... at least so far.
It's amazing how these old machines can just keep on ticking, so it's nice to find a decent, current browser. Even my original battery lasts for almost an hour!
    Much appreciated,
    Joe

  • Problems with the Oracle Home Page (maybe Norton Internet Security)

    Hello Everybody!
Like others messages, I've got problems to see the Oracle 10g Home Page. I can log to the database in SQL Plus perfectly, but not in Home Page. I tried by the following ways:
    http://127.0.0.1:8080
    http://127.0.0.1:1521
    http://{my_ip_adress}:8080
    http://localhost:8080
and I can't display anything. I've got WinXP Professional Edition and Norton Internet Security. I tried to connect changing the options of Norton's Firewall, but the Home Page doesn't work. Somebody has any idea what´s my problem?? If so, tell me please. I've worked many nights in the solution, but the problem still be there.
    Thanks for reading, and replay...
    Mario.

    To diagnose a installation issue:-
    Please provide the following
    1) The output (from the DOS command line) of lsnrctl status
    2) The output (from the DOS command line) of netstat -a
    3) The output (from the SQL Command line) of
    connect / as sysdba;
    select select dbms_xdb.gethttpport() from dual;
Please note that the output of netstat -a can provide information that could be used to compromise your system. If the system is on the network, please upload the output to the upload site.
If this checks out correctly (8080 is the port), then it is a browser issue. These can be legion. Check that you are not going to a proxy server for 127.0.0.1 or host. Check that you are not disabling access to 127.0.0.1 or host in your browser. Check that cookies are enabled. If possible, try a different browser (copy and paste the URL from one to another) Check that the host name you are providing actually resolves to your local machine (ping host)

  • Has anybody else had any problems running Kaspersky Internet Security 2015?

I recently installed Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 on both my Macbook and iMac. Since installing it my system runs so incredibly slow that I had to turn it off. I am awaiting a response from their support but in the meantime I would like to know if anybody else has used this product and if so did you have any problems running it.

Telling people antivirus is not needed on a mac is  an ignorant comment.
Actually it is a very knowledgeable comment
How does Mac OS X protect me?
    <http://www.thesafemac.com/mmg-builtin/>
The problems you are having are typical of the complaints we see with 3rd party anti-malware products on a Mac.  Many of the long term forum contributors have been using Macs since the previous century (I started in '88).  Many of them are also computer professionals for their day jobs (or before they retired).
We are NOT parroting the company line.  We have been paying attention to the features in Mac OS X, and the lack of virii on Mac OS X, the performance complaints from users with anti-malware products installed, as well as the kernel panics from anti-malware products.
The current biggest problem on Mac OS X are browser scareware pop-ups, adware, and trojans that trick users to install them.  And so far, none of the anti-malware products seem to have protected Mac users from the adware and trojans.

  • Problem with Rescue and Recovery after installing Norton Internet Security 2010

    Hi all.
It's my first time in this forum.
I have a problem, with Rescue and Recovery, after installing Norton Internet Security 2010 on my T43.
    The message I get it:
"Rescue and Recovery is unable to back up the file 'C:\Documents and settings\all Users\Application Data\ Norton\ 00000082\00000109\000003c1\cltMLS1.bat' Because the file is either corrupted or being used by another application. Please close any application that could be using the file.
I tried to close the Norton but I couldn't find how.

Hi and welcome to the forum,
the reason for this situation is, that the antivir files are protected from being modified.
This is the reason, why this file cannot be backed up. I assume, that you would get much more such messages, as there are surelly multiple files files, that are protected like this.
So the solution is to block folders from being archived. Please start RnR application and in the configuration set this folder as the excluded one.
This will skip the backup of this file and will fix your situation.
Please let me know, if you have covered this.
    Cheers

This sounds like a virus or malware program that has made its way onto your computer.  I would ensure you have the latest virus definitions on your computer and run a thorough (complete) scan of your system.  If this doesn't work, I would suggest  you use Microsoft's Malware Removal Tool.  You can download it at the link below.   Hope this helps.

My computer crashes repeatedly and I get the message pages are not responding do you want to stop, and/or shockwave is not responding do you want to stop. I have Windows XP Service Pack 3, I am having the same issues whether I use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox. My HP Pavilion Desktop has 504 MB of Ram and I am using high speed internet connection. Because it was crashing so much, I used the uninstall program for Flash player to uninstall Flash, I checked my registry and removed anything I saw that was Flash. I then uninstalled Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, then I reinstalled the most recent versions from their websites. I did the same for FlashPlayer and Shockwave Flash. I went to the Adobe website and had them check to see if it was working and it shows I have FlashPlayer 10.3.181.36. The page that shows  which version of flash player goes with Windows XP states that I should have 10.3.181.34 (This is what I thought I had before I updated, I was having the same problems). When I went into my computer to see what version I have, it shows 11.5.9.620 Activex and both Flash Player and Flash Player Object is listed as 10.3.181.34. My firewall for Windows is set to medium. I also am running Norton Internet Security. It takes anywhere from 3-6minutes for some of my games to load, and I have to refresh at least 3-4 times in order to play. When I do start to play it freezes frequently and I use escape to free it up. This has been going on for a month. I have no idea what to do. I am not very computer savy and I have been learning as I go.

  • Safari / Internet Browser problems on iBook Clamshell

    Hi.
I have just purchased an iBook clamshell for my partner off of ebay.
The actual system works fine and it has been updated to OS X 10.3.9 but I have a few problems which I am really frustrated with!
Basically, it needs an update for an internet explorer browser. Everytime we try and go on to Yahoo, Facebook or MSN for hotmail, it just won't load properly. I have run the Java updates and the software update but It still won't work. I tried downloading the latest safari but it wouldn't work because the system was too old!
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mark

  • Trying to turn off "secure browsing" when I go to FaceBook to play games. This problem started after updating FF.

When I go to FaceBook to play games, FF will ask me if I want to "turn off secure browsing." Yes or I can't play the games. However, it will not let me do a thing except browse the site in "secure browsing" mode. I never had this problem until I updated FF. I have to us IE to play games on FB now. I hate IE. It's so slow and a pain in the backside.
    Thanks
    Rhea Krussell

In the upper right hand corner of facebook, 1. click the drop down menu next to home. 2. Click on 'Account Settings' from the menu. Now, on the right side, 3. click the option 'Security'. 4. The option to turn off secure browsing will be the second on down on the list in the main part of your screen. Hope this helps.

  • I have a problem with my Internet Security and the new Firefox, where can I get the previous version which I had before my system crashed?

Hi I use CA Internet Security Suite which checks ALL pages and searches, but it does not work with this version, also I wish to use Goggle Toolbar which ALSO does not work with this version where can I get the previous version? As my harddrive crashed I have had to install windows 7 and this version doesn't seem to allow me to change my homepage, why is this? Cheers Ernest

You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • How do I get rid of Norton Internet Security?  Migration assistant problem

I have a new MacBook Pro and I used a firewire connection and migration assistant to transfer files. Unfortunately, the assistant transferred all my applications, even the ones I didn't want, like Norton Internet Security, which slowed down my old G4. I deleted all the Norton files, but there are still icons for Norton Auto protect and Norton Quick Menu on my System Preferences menu. I'm afraid they are responsible for the messages I get on booting up saying the system detects Norton but can't open the application. I'm also afraid its the reason that suddenly my new superfast MacPro is less fast. I can't figure out how to delete it from the system preferences - any ideas?

Please let me reassure you. There are NO viruses effecting OSX to date. There was one virus effected OS9 ten years ago, but nothing since. The fear of viruses is a residual effect from using that other OS, which shall remain nameless, but not shameless. The only danger a Mac user faces is, spreading a virus through a network by forwarding junk emails with an infected attachment, not that anybody is that stupid, or are they? If you are using one of the main email providers, Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc, all he attachments are scanned automatically as these organizations cannot afford to have viruses in their systems.
In a nutshell: Relax and enjoy the freedom of using a Mac.
Furthermore: Most ex-users of the nameless OS feel the need to run defrag programs on Macs. Unnecessary! Just leave your Mac turned on overnight and it will do it itself.
You may remember the Mac slogan, 'Think Differently'. Well, Macs do!
    Enjoy your clean install.

  • IE 11 Internet Security Zone Protected Mode Problem

    Hi All
We have a couple of random issues using IE 11 and was wondering if someone could shed a little light on it.
I think it boils down to an issue of the running of java but it's hard to pinpoint.
An example of the issue is present the below Technet article, it has expansion arrows on the left of the text that allow you to expand and collapse articles, this work in older version on IE and also other browsers, however in IE 11 they do not work until
you uncheck protected mode from the Internet Security Zone:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398125.aspx
If left checked these not work, this issue manifests itself in various different ways depending on the site but the above is the clearest example. Scripting of Java applets is enabled as part of the default Medium-High setting.

    Hi,
regardless, click the "Reset all zones to default" button... by default only sites in the RESTRICTED zone will have ActiveScripting (javascript) disabled.
I would expect it to be in the Internet zone... Are you MSFT? Intranet sites are usually detected automatically. It is uncommon to have a public access website listed in your Intranet zone sites list. If so please contact your system administrators.
or check if its in your list or applied by your network administrators.
Internet Options>Security tab, Local Intranet zone button, Sites button, Advanced... If its in your list, remove it... if its not in your list consult your system administrators....(it is not visible to you if they (the system administrators) have placed
    it there.
Commonly....sites like TechNet or MSDN may be added to the TRUSTED sites lists.. On server versions of IE, Microsoft.com is placed in the TRUSTED sites list... Server versions of windows have a higher security, and MS.com is placed in the
On private computers there is little need to place sites in any security zone.... they will map automatically to the internet zone. Placing sites in the Trusted zone actually DECREASES the site security... hence you have to TRUST them first before putting
them into a lower security zone.

    System Specifications:
Windows XP Professional with Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.
Enterprise Manager URL: http://dell9150:1158/em (there is no Domain Name)
Firewall is set to ON. I have no special software other than Windows XP Pro and
Internet Explorer handling my security. Oracle10g Database with Forms10g.
    Sequence of Events:
    1. Start OC4J Instance and Oracle Forms Builder
    2. Open a previously debugged form, connect to database and run the form.
    3. A sound like a pop-up blocker occurs and I am at the following address:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Bob\Local Settings\Temp\s31o.htm
    4. When I check the pop-up blocker it is ON. If I turn it OFF
the next time I come to this window it is set back to ON?
    I can not add this current address to the pop up blocker exceptions;
however, “dell9150” is listed as an exception.
    5. I also get the message “…Explorer has restricted this file from showing
active content…Click option here…”. When I select “Allow Blocked Content…”
I get a security warning “…run active content” to which I reply YES.
    6. Now the form runs, the forms works just fine, and I am at the address: http://dell9150:8889/forms90/f90servlet
    7. Once I close the form, go back to Builder and re-run the form I get the following
message without ever reaching the internet:
    <html> <head> ORACLE FORMS.</head>

    <input type="hidden" name="array" value="YES">
    </form> </body></html>
In order to re-run the form I must close out of everything and start from scratch.
I have tried several combinations of setting in the Internet Properties/Security Settings with no luck. If I RESET (I assume this resets all options to the default) the same thing occurs. Obviously, there has to be a way of setting my Internet Options so that I can run a form without this problem but I am lost and could really use some HELP! I am in no way a Windows expert nor a Oracle DBA but I can follow directions. Thanks.

    Try the following solutions :
    1) Check on in IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> advanced -> allow active content to run in files on My Co
    mputer
    2) Make sure that you have in the Internet Explorer Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> Check the check box
Enable third party Browser extensions. It will be under browsing.
