Internet security for iBook G4 for our kid

We let our 6 year old use my old iBook G4 (10.4.11) to play games on a handful on sites that we have deemed OK for him.
We monitor him very closely, but once in a while he'll click off to some other site and, we'll, you get the picture--we swoop in frantically, it's a bummer for him, etc.
Is there an application available that would allow use to set up only certain urls that can be accessed on that machine/browser?(He's using Firefox on that machine FWIW, as the machine is long-in-the-tooth and for some reason Safari is problematic on it).
Thanks

You can change your routers DNS to OpenDNS servers.
DNS - Domain Name Server resolves the name of the web site into a IP Address like 67.342.565.343 which the computer uses to connect to another computer.
This is used in case a web site changes servers, they keep the name, just change the location. DNS automatically solves the location issue for people.
But it also can be used as a content filter, which OpenDNS does with a free service.
http://www.opendns.com/
What you have to do is acces your router and change the two DNS IP addresses to OpenDNS servers.
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Then sign up for the "home free" account at OpenDNS and set the controls, Pr0n, web proxies, hostile sites and so forth. Then OpenDNS will filter out about 90% of the hostile stuff out there, which is enough for the occasional stray/non tech user.
Hard core types who know the name of the site they want to visit (say yourself for example like a particular adult site) can use netcraft or whois to find the current IP address of the site, then punch in the IP number manually into their browser URL address field and go to the site directly, without needing a DNS lookup.

What Internet security do you recommend for apple products

None.  The best security is to backup your data frequently, and using WPA2 encryption on wireless routers.    Otherwise basic good practices include:
    1. Do not download sites that suggest installing cleanup software.
    2. Do not do things that might slow your Mac down:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6921
    3. Do not install updates except directly from reputable vendors websites, and the Apple Mac Store.
    4. Do not follow instructions of popup windows or banner ads.
    5. Do not use peer2peer or torrent software.
    6. Do not open .scpt, .sct, .app attachments.
    7. If you use Windows on your Mac, the same security rules for Windows on a non-Apple machine apply as an Apple machine.

    Hello there, Goraksanat.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some good pointers for troubleshooting your issue:

Additionally you can try an SMC reset as it is recommended for:

  • Firewalls, Internet security and IP blockers for 10.3.9

I've got some issues here concerning installing an Internet Protocol IP blocker.
The reason is simple, to stop hackers and other agents from getting in to see my IP address and to keep spies out when possibly sharing files online such as iTunes and my original art, graphics and photo files.
There is some freeware out there called PeerGuardian2, which comes highly recommened from the P2P community. But it only works with 10.4.x. I tried finding an older version but none exists that I know of. But today I found a free download on Version Tracker, and upgrade for DoorStop1.1. It's a 30 day trial once you activate it. The software package costs $39.95. I don't know how they can charge so much when PeeGuardian2 is a free download. DoorStop does bascically the same thing, blocks attacks on your IP address and shows you a list of unwanted visitors.. who you can keep out.
I've also read that Mac OS X firewall isn't enough to keep out unwanted attacks and spies. Though some argue Macs are pretty immune to attacks, though I'm not so sure. I've got Norton Personal Firewall for Mac OS X but I'm not sure that's enough. What do you think?
Is it any of your opinions that Macs are LESS vulnerable to IP attacks, hackers, spies, snoops and certain agents hired by big media to see what we're up to online? It's true that most P2P users run Windows based PC but I have my doubts about our security, even though most viruses are written for Windows PCs thus making Macs less vulnerable.
Does anyone here have any experience with P2P file sharing with Mac OS 10.3.9, IP blockers and any advice they want to give? - Rob (0__0)

  • Firefox update version 10 wants to disable my Internet Security, until it's made compatible. Firefox is seeing it as an add-on. Can anyone help me?

Kaspersky is an Internet Security/Anti-Virus program for my computer and it seems that Firefox thinks it's an add-on. The update window says, that Kaspersky would be disabled, until Firefox makes it compatible with version 10. Running my protection program is more important to me than updating to Firefox version 10. How long it will take Firefox to make this type of so called add-on compatible?
It would be nice to talk with some type of support, so Firefox can make the improvements to except Kaspersky.

The main Protection is still active because it scan traffic product regardless.the addon are just shortcut of few things like Virtual Keyboard, Url Banner etc. But doesnot get you '''more''' protection. If your Antivirus say green and your web component is enable then all is good. You are protected. :)
btw The Patch '''h''' for Kaspersky 2012 which currently in beta stage. Please wait few days, and you will get this patch when it will release via Database Update .See:
    * http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=227402 (login required)
this Patch will elimante the problem of compatibility between Firefox 10 and Firefox 11. Stay tuned.

  • Some important features of Kaspersky Internet security wont work with the latest edition of Firefox, what can be done?

There usually is a delay of a few weeks before Kaspersky updates its Firefox add-ons for a new version.
Have you installed patch "I" which added support for Firefox 12 (released May 4th)? Not sure whether that helps with Firefox 13. More information: [http://support.kaspersky.com/kis2012/tech?qid=208286519 Kaspersky Internet Security 2012: patch I for version 12.0.0.374].

  • Paying double each month for Internet Security Suite?

I noticed that we are paying twice each month for Internet Security Suite: once as a billed item ($6.99); and again as part of the Backup and Security Bundle ($11.00). It seems this has been going on since about Aug 2013.
Hence, I dropped the standalone Security Suite. Now, I'd like a a refund for all those overcharges and an explanation as to how (and why) that occurred.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Help Needed for Internet Security Driving Test!

Hi I came up with a few basic rules for family and friends
that I put together in order to try to prevent them from
continually installing spyware, toolbars, keyloggers and viruses on
their computers (and as a result, to try to prevent them from
continually calling me and asking for my help and advice when they
did this and things went wrong).
To all intents and purposes the rules worked well - for a
while. I set it up as a simple RTF document and I added this to the
start up folder of Windows XP, so that it started every time the PC
started. However, over time some of them simply learned to ignore
the rules and to close the RTF document as soon as it opened
without paying any attention to it at all - and then they went
about their merry business of installing spyware, keyloggers and
viruses etc. just as they had in the past.
So OK, I have to admit I found this deeply frustrating - but
I also realise that this is the same position that many of us geeks
are in in that on the whole, most average everyday computer users
don't have a clue about Internet security.
Now however things have become a lot more serious for me, as
I have been asked by a local charity to administer a total of 60
machines over 2 different sites - and I have also been asked if I
could provide some form of training with regard to basic personal
    Internet security.
With this in mind I came up with the idea of an interactive
CDROM, or Flash based Internet security driving test/tutorial that
basically covers all of the scenarios I touch on in my rules.
This tutorial would cover basic things like, if you got an
email from a representative ex President of an African country
offering you a share in millions of dollars of stolen money, or if
you got an email from your bank asking you to verify your security
details and so on, what would you do? Additionally it would cover
such things as the abundance of viruses that infest many of the
porn sites on the net, the way that many games on the Internet that
are listed as being 'free' (particularly those which are in
executable file format) are often just vehicles for more spyware
and viruses also - and about the dangers of chat lines, of spoof
security warnings on web sites and so on.
I have included my list of rules below which should hopefully
give you an idea of what I'm trying to do. Be warned though, the
wording is deliberately harsh and perhaps a little extreme (and as
a result maybe not entirely 100% accurate) but you must realize
that I am, or was trying to give myself the easiest time possible
and the least possible problems. So you may well find things you
disagree with in it - but overall if someone followed these rules,
they probably would be less likely to run into problems than
someone who did not follow them might.
The thing is however that (as I said) I would like to
formalise these rules somewhat in the format of some kind of
interactive tutorial/web security driving test. Unfortunately I
have no experience with flash - and little knowledge of HTML or
anything like that. I also know that the language for these rules
isn't quite right, in that it probably isn't suitable for a formal
    office type environment.
I had in mind that the tutorial would show some realtime
examples of some of the things I have been talking about (which I
assume would only be possible in Flash?) or perhaps rather like a
readers digest multiple choice type thing, with screenshots
depicting the various scenarios in question. (Like a screenshot of
a flash animation on a web page saying 'You have won a prize!!!'
What would you do? a) click on the ad, b, ignore it, or c) phone
all of your family and friends informing them of your good fortune
    before doing anything.' etc.
So I was wondering, are there any good hearted charitable
souls out there who might be willing to help out to put a tutorial
    like this together?
Again I remind you that it really is for a charity
(specifically the Depaul Trust in the UK, which helps young
vulnerable people find secure accommodation, provides educational
opportunities and helps them to find employment). The requirement
would be that all staff and students pass the Internet security
test before being granted Internet access.
I know this might be time consuming - but again all I can do
is appeal to the sense of kindness and helpfulness of this
community and hope that someone who does have some experience in
these maters might be willing to help.
Alternatively could anyone suggest a simple easy to use
software package that would allow a relative n00b like me to put
together a tutorial like this on my own? Or perhaps it is possible
that some free online tutorial like this already exists?
In any case, any help at all would be appreciated.
    PS,
Here are the rules I have that I referred to above.
    http://download305.mediafire.com/b6ndmljht1bg/29bbnnbz2uz/internet+rules.rtf

Dennis, when I look at the subject three clips (EI 1250, EI 640, and EI 320, respectively, and in that order) as presented in the camera, I see exactly what I have expected all along -- three different-brightness images that are progressively brighter from the EI 1250 exposure to the EI 320 exposure.   So, am mystified why when I open these images (clips), say, in RAW Viewer, wherein I have thought that I would see the same progressive brightness differences allowing me to experiment with reducing brightness to deal with noise reduction, all three of the images present completely alike in brightness.

I have been a loyal customer for years and have a hot spot because internet options are very limited in our rural area.  I have stayed with 10G since the beginning.  Most months I don't use the 10G.  Verizon has no problem with me paying for Data I don't use.  This month my daughter comes home from College and she accidentally uses 24G.....14 over get blind sided with $140.00 in overages.  I called Verizon today......stopped in to the store today......My neighbor told me they waved charges for her one time.  Lots of charges.....But I'm am getting no help.  Not even an offer of a payment plan to help me out.  I went back just 6 months and I have over paid for 19G.....Seems like they would like to help out their loyal customers!!!!     Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with them?   We are not wealthy....or I would just pay this and walk away......

There is a big misconception in what customers believe a cell carrier is obligated to do.
You pay a set price to use up to that amount of xx data. It makes no difference if you use it to the paid limit or way under. Its like peace of mind when you don't have to worry about a data counter.
Your daughter used the data, your plan is quite clear of what overage charges are. Why should or would Verizon wireless just forgive the charges because you are a customer? Your daughter used the data, get the money from her. That is the responsible thing to do.
There is no "I have been a loyal customer so please remove the $120, or $250, or $2,000.00 since I did not mean to use it"
Your electric company, or gas company or any other company does not remove valid charges. Why should Verizon wireless?
Just pay the invoice and don't think you are being mistreated because Verizon is a business and not a charity.
    Good Luck

  • I just purchased 2 new iPhones for my wife and I and set them up. We want to give the old phones to our kids, with the ability to share all the songs in my iTunes account. How do I want to give new names so our old phones sync with our kids names?

Sorry for the long intro question.  I just bought a new iPhone 5S for me and a new 5C for my wife.
We want to give our kids my old 4S and my wife's old 4.  We backed up our old phones and restored
our info to our new ones, but when we connect our old phones, they still show all our songs and iTunes
settings on them (along with the same names as our new ones).
We want to set up our old iPhones for our kids to be able to have their own names on theirs so that
when we connect to my iTunes computer, it sees each phone accordingly, and has only the songs
that they select (whereas I want to keep ALL my songs in my iTunes account on mine, not just some).
    How do I do this?

    You are most welcome

There is no such Trojan or other malware known today that will do that using OS X nor has there ever been one. The most probable explanation is that somebody hacked into your e-mail account on the server, so you should change that password to something stronger right away. If it had come from your Mac then there would almost certainly be copies of those messages in your Sent Mail mailbox.
