Internet Security UI scaling on Windows 8.1 and high resolution displays

Please make the Internet Security UI scale properly on Windows 8 and high resolution screens. I have a 13" laptop with 3200x1800px screen resolution and Internet Security UI is pretty much unusable without a magnifying glass. Here's a screenshot (scaled down to 1920p). The text is physically about 1.7mm high...

Good idea

  • Make Skype work properly with Windows DPI scaling for high resolution displays

Hello, As of now, Skype does not work well with Windows DPI scaling. Everything looks fuzzy (fonts, icons, etc).Microsoft's recommendation is to turn off the DPI scaling ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2900023 ) but in this case, the text is too tiny to be read. Basically everyone with a high resolution display is stuck with either tiny of fuzzy fonts, making Skype unusable. It's really a pity because other Microsoft programs such as Office work perfectly with Windows DPI scaling, and Skype also looks great on Mac with Retina display. With high DPI displays becoming more and more common, this is a must have feature. Thanks for reading!

As you can see Skype is really broken on HDPI displays and the issue is still being ignored/unacknowledged by Skype devs.

  • Userform controls disappearing in Word 2013/Windows 8.1 with High-Res display - DLL error?

I have a .dotm file with a large number of modules and userforms. Creating new documents from the template works fine on almost every computer I've tested it on (hundreds), but I've run into a setup that fails consistently.
Two different Samsung ATIV 9's with a high res display and Windows 8 (64bit)/Office 2013 show the same problem:
When opening a new document based on the template for the first time, it works fine. If I open the VB editor, everything looks normal, userforms are intact.
On the second and all consecutive attempts, it throws a "Type Mismatch" error. Opening the VB Editor, I get a compile error on lines of code referencing components of the first userform (alphabetically). Opening that userform, it shows only a blank
multi-page control, and all the other controls are missing - hence the new compile errors on controls that used to exist. If I remove that userform and save the file, the project compiles, but opening a new document from the template will result in "Word
    has stopped working..."
I can actually reproduce this behavior starting from scratch - new blank document, save as a .dotm. Create a new userform and add a multipage control. Clicking any control in the toolbox to add it to the form will result in a "Type Mismatch" error,
even though there's no VBA code. I can then successfully add the control to the form. But, once I save and reopen the template, the multi-page control is blank, and the other controls I put on it disappear.
I at one point got an error from the VB Editor that it "could not open macro storage" and the included help suggested that might be due to an incorrect version of vbe7.dll.
The only copy of vbe7.dll I could find was at:
    c:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\vfs\ProgramFilesCommonX86\Microsoft Shared\VBA\VBA7.1
    The dll version was 7.1.10.44
I tried replacing that file with a vbe7.dll file from a working computer (version 7.0.15.89 from c:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\microsoft shared\VBA\VBA7), but that just resulted in the VB editor not loading at all.
I have tried both a 32bit Click-to-run version of Office 2013, and installing off a CD with 64bit Office 2013, both had exactly the same error.
The reason I'm wondering if it's a high-DPI display related error is that googling about vbe7.dll errors, I came across this hotfix:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2880496/en-us
which claims it "Fixes various Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) issues with displays on high-DPI devices."
Neither the 32bit or 64bit installer for that hotfix would run, they said there was no affected programs installed.
My reasoning for suspecting a hardware/DLL incompatibility is this:
    1) It's not the template or the VBA code, since those work elsewhere and the same behavior happens with any file with a userform
    2) It's not the Office version, since both 32/64 bit, MSI and Click-to-run didn't work
    3) It's not Windows 8.1, since this same template works fine on other machines
    4) The first time I open the template on the affected machines, it works fine - but the template is shipped compacted and decompiled. After I open it once and then close, Word has compiled the code and corrupted it somehow, because whatever the first userform
was in the list shows up as blank.
    5) It feels hardware-specific, since out of hundreds of machines, I've only seen this behavior on two of the same laptop model - seems like too much of a coincidence.
Is there any chance the VBE in Office 2013 is somehow incompatible with this hardware? If that might be the case, does anyone have any idea how I'd go about testing and/or fixing it?
    Any thoughts are much appreciated.

    Hi Chris,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59861.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  If you see an entry for IDT HD Audio ( or very similar IDT entry ), right click the device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.  If there was no IDT entry, just proceed below.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • ?: Will a high resolution display work in PSCC (Windows)

    Hello everyone,
I am going to be purchasing a windows laptop 15" that has 2 screen resolution choices. I can choose a 1920x1080 or a 2880x1080. I would rather purchase the 2880x1620 display but i am confused as to whether or not it will work properly with Photoshop CC in a Windows environment.
Here are my 3 questions for you:
    1. Will a 2880x1620 display be workable with PSCC or should i opt for the 1920x1080 option?
    2. If there is no solution currently for the higher resolution option do you think there may be one soon?
    3. If i purchase the 2880x1620 display can i run it at a lower resolution until the problem is fixed or will not running it at the native resolution create other problems?
Thank you so much for helping me with this. I need to order the laptop soon and im at a loss as to which display to select.
Best to you and thanks again,
    rick

Yes Trevor thats me! I thought that was you! How are you doing?? Great to hear from you :-)
A couple of things as i stayed up late last night looking around.....
I have looked at the Dell Precision M4700 and because its got the older processors & its not as expensive as the M4800 but would seem to work well for me. Im looking for something that is not too high a resolution like 1920x1080 (and even that is pushing it on a 15.6" screen im sure), good viewing angles, lots of RAM, decent NITS, decent sRGB coverage and that wont break the bank. Easy chore huh?
I think with this purchase im going to have to make some compromises and by getting this machine i think i will be ok. Im sure they will probably come out with a high resolution fix the day i get my lower resolution display but hey, thats the way it goes huh?
Im using a very old MacBook Pro right now that is 1200x800 and it is excellent so im sure i'll be fine with a 1920x1080 display.
One thing that has me confused is when i look at Dell's website it states that all of their machines are approved for Photoshop CS6. Kind of funny they would say that if that includes the high rez version no?
Also, they have something called an "optimizer" which i beleive is software that works with your computer to optimize it for certain applications on the fly. It lists it as working well with Photoshop. That would in no way be a solution to the high rez display issues would it?
I even saw a video that had the highest resolution display with Photoshop on it and it looked fine! Did they Photoshop that??
Any insight you can give me before i pull the trigger would be most appreciated. I am getting a Windows machine because i have to run QuickBooks for Windows on it and i dont want to use Parallels or Boot Camp. Just me but i dont like the idea of doing that (i know im wierd!)
Hope to hear from you all soon!
Thank you so much for the great help!
    best to you,
    rick

  • QuickTime SDK for Windows ICMCompressionSessionEncodeFrame crashes for higher resolution cameras  2 MP

I implemented a while ago a H.264 re-encoding to output H.264 QuickTime .mov file usng QuickTime Window SDK  7.3.0.70. The code uses ICMCompressionSession to compress the frames going into the container. The code works fine with cameras with resolutions up to 2 Megapixels (1600 x 1200). The crash occurs in QuickTime API call. Here is the code to compress the frame:
    CVPixelBufferRef pixel_buffer = nil;

  • Question about Windows File Explorer and offline attribute display

In previous releases of Windows (including Windows 8), Windows File Explorer would display a small "x" icon if the offline file attribute was set.  In Windows 8.1, Windows File Explorer no longer displays the "x" icon if the offline
file attribute is set.  Is there a reason this behavior was changed?  Is there an option to get the old behavior of displaying the "x" icon?

    Hello Ed Winn,
What ‘x’ icon do you mean?
Please share us the screenshots to compare.
Based on my test, I can’t find the ‘x’ icon in the offline folder both in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

  • Sometimes, while typing, Windows 7 beeps and does not display character

Hi, I don't know if this is the right place, but if someone can help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
I've recently upgrade from Vista(x64) to Windows 7(x64), not a clean install. After the upgrade, but not before, I've been experiencing instances where I am typing something in any random program and for one random key press, the computer will beep and the letter for that key press will not show up where I was typing. I wouldn't say it's a life threatening issue, but I get it often enough that it's pretty annoying. I think the beep is coming from the speaker. Has anyone else had problems with this?
    My specs:
    Motherboard: Nvidia 680i SLI
    Processor: Intel e6750 dual core
Keyboard: Microsoft "Natural Keyboard Elite" with PS/2 jack
    Thanks in advance,

    Hello,
I recently installed Win7-64 Pro [retail box] into a new system and I am having the same strange symptom.  It's very specific though and can be reproduced.  In any application, when I press the following keystrokes, I get a beep through my speakers
and the final "F" is not typed:
    {hold down left-SHIFT for ALL 3 keys}PDF
"PDF" must be typed rapidly and the final "F" will not be typed.  Sometimes I get a beep, but not always.  If I slow down, the "F" is typed.  I have new hardware, there is not much in RAM except FireFox 3.6.15 but it doesn't matter what is
    loaded.   Here is my hardware:
    Asus P7P55D-E Pro mobo
Intel i7 870 at stock speed (not O/C'd)
    4 GB Corsair RAM
EVGA GeForce GTX 460 SE, PART NUMBER: 01G-P3-1366-TR
PNY NVIDIA Quadro NVS 450 x16
    -----5 monitors for above
    Windows 7-64 upgraded to SP1
    Fujitsu FKB4726-651 PS/2 Keyboard
    Microsoft Intellimouse optical through PS/2
All drivers have been loaded.  I have not had any other problems with my keyboard that I have noticed.  I also have not tested my keyboard in DOS or Win7 Safe-Mode.
June 16, 2011 UPDATE:  I booted into DOS using a Win98SE formatted floppy and I tested my system using the DOS Edit.COM program.  It did the same thing as above (no beep though)!  I will update this post again after I use a different
    keyboard.

  • Internet Security Warning on every Send/recieve

    Hi Experts,
We are using self-signed certificate for our server and all the accounts are using POP3/TLS as their account setting. As expected whenever we open Outlook 2007, we get the Internet Security Warning, to which we answer YES and it works perfectly fine.
But from last few days, on one of the laptop the warning comes on every send/receive and everytime we try to send an email. I haven't changed anything on that laptop and all the settings are same on all the other laptops.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
Please follow the instructions to remove the warning :
Log in as the administrator. Enter Password and Username when prompted into the corresponding fields in the login screen.
Launch the Start Menu by clicking on the

The advanced tab will list down all the Setting details of the browser. Hit the option that reads
Reset. Click on the Apply button after you are done with Resetting. Close all the programs and initiate system restart.
Re-launch the Microsoft Outlook application and check whether your system will receive any further error warnings regarding Outlook 2007 Internet Security. The above technique will fix your issues with Internet Security warnings.
In case you still have an issue then I would suggest you to open phone case with Microsoft support to help out in correcting the issue caused .You can create case by calling toll free 1-800-936-4900 or alternately you can also visit

  • Firefox update version 10 wants to disable my Internet Security, until it's made compatible. Firefox is seeing it as an add-on. Can anyone help me?

Kaspersky is an Internet Security/Anti-Virus program for my computer and it seems that Firefox thinks it's an add-on. The update window says, that Kaspersky would be disabled, until Firefox makes it compatible with version 10. Running my protection program is more important to me than updating to Firefox version 10. How long it will take Firefox to make this type of so called add-on compatible?
It would be nice to talk with some type of support, so Firefox can make the improvements to except Kaspersky.

The main Protection is still active because it scan traffic product regardless.the addon are just shortcut of few things like Virtual Keyboard, Url Banner etc. But doesnot get you '''more''' protection. If your Antivirus say green and your web component is enable then all is good. You are protected. :)
btw The Patch '''h''' for Kaspersky 2012 which currently in beta stage. Please wait few days, and you will get this patch when it will release via Database Update .See:
    * http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=227402 (login required)
this Patch will elimante the problem of compatibility between Firefox 10 and Firefox 11. Stay tuned.

I am on 076876A ( almost two-years n five-months )...Incidentally had to 'Rescue and Recovery' the Windows XP sp2 OS from hidden partition by pressing Lenovo Care button!...Deleted the demo-Norton Internet Security 2005 ( antispyware edition ) using Norton Removal Tool...
Tried Installing and Activating Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 thrice!...but somehow failed each-time...Upon re-booting the system once the said Installation was over, the message displayed on the top right of the Windows welcome screen - Protected by Kasperky, disappears each time...
The 'K' icon on the notification area gets blacked-out ( once even after updating the virus signatures and subsequent reboot ) followed by the Windows Warning that the system wasn't protected by the said anti-virus software...
Are there non-compatibility issues with 076876A's Windows XP sp2 OS that cause Kasperky Internet Security 2009 to be disabled during  Installation and Online-Activation?...( Incidentally Kaspersky  lets just 3 attempts to activate the said software...I have exhausted the limit without even exercising my paid-rights to run the OS protected by KIS 2009! )...

  • Recommendations for Internet security package with lion?

Any recommendations fro an Internet security package with lion?

Seems to me you are getting limited replies about Mac OSX security and viruses. Internet security can also be about safe surfing and being warned the safety and suitability of web sites. Also you may be running applications, like Microsoft Office, on your iMac which may have similar weakness and vulnerabilities to the Windows office suite. Although many nastys you may get via macros and e-mail are aimed at messing up Windows, there are others which aim to steal personal information or can be used to infect others when you send files or mail onwards. While I believe Mac OS itself is probably better protected than Windows, I think it may still worth extra protection and warnings about web sites. etc. which you get from Internet Security Packages such as Norton or Mcafee (which is good for the mac).

  • Does Firefox disable my current Norton Internet Security?

If Firefox is the security software for Google Chrome, what happened to my current security software, Norton Internet Security 2011, for my Windows default browser, Bing? How do I enable Norton Internet Security 2011 for Google Chrome?

One other note. Firefox allows two situations in which some or all toolbars may be hidden:
    * Full Screen Mode. The F11 key switches between normal view and full screen view.
    * Script-generated windows. Sometimes when you click a link you launch a window that does not have all of the features of a normal window. This allows sites to present a simplified display, more like a dialog box. If this happens, pressing Ctrl+n should always open a normal window with the full complement of controls.

  • Bootcamp Windows 7 'C:/Windows is corrupt and unreadable'?

    Hi,
Most of my family and i are and have been Mac/Apple enthusiasts for a while, but recently i have been using Windows 7 via bootcamp for certain software and such. Windows was working fine until today, when i started my MacBook Pro 13" computer (Mid 2010) and did the usual thing to get into windows (Hold Alt/Option key while starting and running windows from there) the normal startup screen was not displayed, but there was simply a 'loaidng files' bar at the bottom. after the bar had finished loading, it went straight to disk repair. As soon as the disk repair came up, a message box saying something along the lines of '...C:/Windows is corrupt and unreadable.' (there was something before C:/, but i cannot remember exactly what was said). At this point, i could do absolutely nothing but close the message for it to come up again (note that the disk repair was still going on behing this message. (this same thing happens every time i start Windows via bootcamp)
After a while of searching, i found nothing that i thought would help me with the exception of running the Windows 7 Disc and running a system repair. I selected the version to run, then selected the option that runs with the settings of the last time it ran correctly. All seemed fine untill i got to the screen where it ask wether to install (repair and help buttons in the bottom left corner), at which point i clicked on the repair option. A screen saying it was looking for Windows intallations came and went and the repair screen came up and the same message '...C:/Windows is corrupt and unreadable' was displayed.
Please help, i can probably fully reinstall Windows 7 via bootcamp and keep all of the documents/files i had, but that would mean i would have to get and reinstall ALL of the programs i had on there, and that would take me almost two full days of fidling around with discs and downloads, let alone the internet usage that would use for the digital versions i bought.
is there a way around this reinstall? Please help.
    Thank you in advance,
    Rylando

Unless you have a backup already you will not be able to save anything, not data files or applications. Of course you will also need to restore the Mac hard drive to as it was prior to the Boot Camp (Windows) partition being created, this must be done with Boot Camp, not Disk Utility. Then reinstall Windows and all applications.
All files currently in the Windows partition will be erased.

  • ITunes for Windows: HiDPI (high resolution) support?

When will iTunes support high resolution display panels in Windows? It is blurry at 3200x1800 on my laptop.

Is there a process to update my iTunes. I've used this gear driver and it's worked GREAT for a long time, but when and if I ever update my iTunes it breaks this and I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling gear, reverting back to the same version of iTunes and completely reinstalling both but nothing seems to work. Is there a good process to revert back and reinstall iTunes and the gear driver?

All PC's are running Windows Vista Home Premium.

well that error message is saying that Windows security center no longer supports the way that the VISS is reporting. Which means that even though VISS is working and it is even reporting its status to WSC. WSC doesnt recognize it anymore. Likely one of the windows updates made the change. I can see the fight comming now. Verizon is going to say. Its working and if the other program doesnt support it, too bad. And windows is going to say the same thing in reverse. My guess would be that it will probably stay that way unless Verizon or Microsoft get enough complaints to make a change in the recognition system.
But the good news is that VISS is running and protecting you. The WSC just doesnt "speak the same language" anymore and cant understand the message from VISS saying "I'm up and running"
