Internet Sharing ... again

I realize that this has been covered a lot, but I thought I would give it one last shot.
I'm using a Tungsten E2 and Hotsyncing with my iMac G5 through Bluetooth (iMac has a Kensington USB adapter). Setting it up for syncing was straight forward, no complaints. I also want to share my iMac's Internet connection (Ethernet). The instructions seem clear, but simply don't work. It appears that the Tungsten E2 wants to connect via PPP and eventually times out.
I've read about "Missing Sync" as a solution, as well as, a script that, from somes comments, appears to have some issues. Has anyone on God's green Earth figured out how to make this obviously desired service work? What is the technical reason for it being so difficult? Is the problem with the MacOS or the PalmOS?
TIA

This is a standard feature of the Missing Sync for Palm OS, easily configured using a wizard and enabled by a single mouse click. Given that you have an 'advanced' OS 5.4 or later Palm handheld organizer and are using Mac OS X 10.4.9, why don't you just spring for the Missing Sync package?
It overcomes the annoying limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit, provides a means to synchronize AvantGo, iPhoto and iTunes content and memos with your device, offers configurable conduit sets and single-click interface switches from Bluetooth, to terrestrial and wireless ethernet network (where supported by a device) and USB, as well as internet sharing and a means to mount an SD card in the Finder.

  • VPN and Internet Sharing

I am running OS 10.5.8 on an iMac. I have the mac connected to the Belkin N1 Vision router (new). I have networked my xBox to the Mac via ethernet connection, and I have internet sharing of the AirPort on and the xBox connects to xBox Live just fine. When I attempt to connect to the VPN server, it will not. I turn off internet sharing and I can connect to the VPN server. Then when I try to turn on internet sharing again, I lose internet connection all together. Can anyone help?

    Something else to consider.
If you don't do anything the default configuration of the VPN Server in Mac OS X 10.6 Server is to route all the users traffic including traffic for sites on the Internet via the Mac OS X Server. If your happy enough for only the traffic that needs to reach your internal LAN to go via the VPN Server and to let the (remote) users Internet traffic go via their own Internet link instead of the office VPN, then you need to add at least one rule in the VPN Server.
    Launch Server Admin
    Click on the VPN service
Click on Settings at the top
Click on the Client Information tab
In the big box at the bottom add a rule to route to your office LAN and mark it as type Private.
See page 151 of the Mac OS X 10.6 Server "Network Services Admin v10.6" PDF manual.

  • I can't download apps to my iPad via Internet sharing (Lion) anymore

I always use my Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard to share my Internet connection with my iPad 2. However, since I upgraded to Lion, my iPad 2 can't seem to download apps thru Internet Sharing anymore. If I use our office WiFi, the App download works fine. But when I connect using Internet Sharing again, it doesn't download the apps.
Interestingly, all my other apps (in the iPad) that require internet connectivity works really well. Only the app store can't download, it surfs really fast though when I want to view an app. ONLY the download is not working right.
    Any thoughts?

Close all the apps in the recents tray on your iPad, reboot again, and see if that solves either problem.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
Since it will not hurt anything, you could try resetting your router as well. Unplug it from power for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • Disabling auto switch off Internet Sharing Lumia 7...

Is there anyway to disable the auto switch off of the auto switch off feature of the Internet Sharing on the Lumia 710?
The reason I ask, is that I want to set this up as my main Internet connection at home using the Three UK One Plan Unlimited Data plan with the phone linked via Internet Shaing to a range extender which all my family can then connect to but the Internet Sharing keeps switching off after a few minutes of inactivity.
This is obviously really annoying as I then have to go upstairs and turn on Internet Sharing again.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are two things you can try:
    1) Keep the AC cable plugged in. It will not shut down WiFi when connected to AC, as the shutting down is a powermanagement feature as I understood.
    2) Keep the screen on (unverified, just a thing you can try to keep the lock timeout to 'forever'. I believe this is related to the powermanagement as well.)

  • When I start Internet Sharing /etc/bootpd.plist is not created and the other device is not assigned an IP address.

Just like the tite says. I am investigating why my Macbook Pro (3,1) running Mountain Lion will not assign an IP address to a computer connected via Ethernet when Internet Sharing is turned on (laptop receiving WiFi connection, supposed to be sharing connection over ethernet). I tested using a relatives macbook and it worked just fine. It turns out my laptop is not creating the file: /etc/bootpd.plist when Internet Sharing is turned on.
I have a console log here from when I start internet sharing:

  • Connecting my Powerbook to my iMac for internet sharing via airport

Thanks in advance for any help.
I have given up trying to get an answer to my Airport problem and NTL Virgin.
I now have my iMac connected to web via ethernet all okay for a week now so it can't be my connection that was the problem.
I need to connect my PowerBook to the internet now at the same time. I would obviously like to do this using wireless technology. I was hoping to web share my iMacs connection via the airport cards on both macs but seem to be struggling.
I can set up a new network on the iMac and get the PowerBook to see it but it won't connect to the internet.
Any advice would be great thanks

  • Internet Sharing broken again with 10.6.8 update?

I have used Internet Sharing for years.  (SysPrefs/Sharing/Internet Sharing/Share your connection from [Ethernet] to computers using [Airport]).  It is very useful in my large old house, where my iMac is connected by an ethernet cable to a WiFi router in another part of the house; it gives me another WiFi zone without having to buy a WiFi extender.
This seems to be a forgotten feature in the OS (forgotten by Apple, that is).  Several times in the last few years, it has "broken" ie ceased to work after an OS upgrade, and only worked again after either another upgrade to the OS or to Airport.  The last time, upgrading to OS 10.6.7, it still worked but had an annoying but tolerable bug which required me to switch it off then on again after a restart.
I have just upgraded to 10.6.8 and it seems to be broken again.  (iPad etc can see the network, pretend to join it, but don't actually connect to the internet).
Anyone else got the same problem?
    Anyone at Apple reading this?
Maybe I should just go and buy another WiFi extender (they're a lot cheaper now) and stop trying to use my Mac to do this!

My wife's new(ish) MacBook Air had the wifi problem. As soon as she upgraded to 10.6.7, she lost internet connection - though wifi signal was still strong. We were hoping the new upgrade to 10.6.8 would fix the problem. It didn't. I tried everything - PRAM, disk permission repairs, etc etc. Finally, this evening, on a whim, I decided to input my old DNS settings (from when I was using the Witopia VPN) into her network settings. I have no idea why, but her connection returned immediately. I tried deleting them again to make sure it really was that, and the connection was lost. Put them back, and the internet came back. Bizarre. We are not even using Witopia anymore (we are in China, and use Asterill). Can anyone explain what's happening?
    Thanks!

  • Airport Express, Leopard and Internet Sharing

I have my internet connection running directly to my iMac's ethernet connection and I use the Internet Sharing option to share my connection with computers. I had been using my Airport Express just to connect to my iMac for Airtunes. My Airport Express has stopped working and is not located unless I shut off Internet Sharing, but if I turn that off, it will not let me set the Airport Express to connect to an existing network - I guess because the network does not exist because I shut it off to configure the Airport Express. This is driving me crazy - any thoughts?

Interestingly, it works again. To initially configure the Airport Express, I had to shut off internet sharing. I configured the Airport Express (I did a hard reset to clear everything out) using the Airport Utility and set it to join an existing network. Of course my network did not show up since I had shut internet sharing off, but I manually typed in the name and password that I had already set for the internet sharing. I also put in a name and password for the base station, but this isn't required.
Then I hit update and right when it says that the configuration has been changed and it is waiting for the Airport Express to restart, I turned internet sharing back on. I waited and after flashing yellow for a while it connected. I unplugged it and plugged it back in to make sure it was fully configured and it works. I have found in the past the unplugging and plugging back in solves a lot of problems too.
Now that it is all set up, I can see and reconfigure the Airport Express in the Airport Utility even when internet sharing is on.
    Hope this helps.

  • Lumia 710 signal and Internet sharing problem

I've been using Lumia 710 since 3 months. Even though the initial experience was good now I'm facing a serious signal problem with the phone. We recently moved to a high-rise building where the signal is weak inside the rooms. If the phone looses the signal it doesn't pick-up the signal even though network is available. This is causing a serious a trouble to me as I don't receive or make calls during the period. I either need to switch-off and switch-on again or I need to turn-on and turn-off  flight mode for the phone to pick up the signal. Sometime even though the signal shows 3/4 bars I won't be able to make/receive the calls.
I'm also facing a issue with Internet sharing option. Even though devices are able to connect they are not able to use the internet/data from phone. I was using the same SIM with other phone of different make and it was working pretty fine. I rely a lot on internet sharing option and now I can't even swap my SIM with old phone as Lumia uses micro SIM.
Please let me know the solutions to both these issues.

That is not normal though. Bring your phone to your local Nokia Care Center and let them have a look at it.
Internet Sharing on Edge/G is not working very well, try and find a 3G connection (which is fast enough) and you will get a better experience.

  • Help with LTE and Internet Sharing for BUIlD Lumia...

    Nokia,
I received the Lumia 920 when I was at BUILD 2 weeks ago. I followed the instructions and the phone mostly works on AT&T. I had a 900 so I assumed my LTE and Internet Sharing plan would easily transfer. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the case. I called AT&T gave them my IMEI number but it's not in their system and is not recognized as a Lumia 920. Because this is not an "AT&T phone" they wouldn't do much more to help. My data connection only ever shows 4G, never LTE as my 900 does and I cannot enable Internet Sharing even though it's on my data plan. I believe this is all controlled by the IMEI number.
Is there anything Nokia can do to help us? I can't imagine I'm the only one having this problem! I'm going to try again to see if I can get the issue escalated and maybe they can force the IMEI number to be recognized as a 920.
    Thanks!

Sorry I never came back to update. The fix, as has been noted already, is to make sure AT&T has your IMEI as another 920 or your old 900 so that you get LTE (which appears as "4G"). Then, in the Nokia Access Point config setting (under System Config), make sure LTE2 is selected, then install an additional keyboard (I tried both Spanish and Chinese). This will force an OTA update that seems to enable Internet Sharing. I had to redo it a second time when I updated my Nokia Access Point app last week, but I just re-installed a NEW keyboard and got Internet Sharing back. It hasn't gone away since, contrary to what others have experienced. For more info (and where I found the fix) see this XDA thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971997

  • USB modem and Internet Sharing causes system to hang.

First my setup. I have a Mac mini (early 2009) running 10.7.2 connected to the Internet using a Sony Ericsson W910 as a USB modem. I am using Internet sharing via Ethernet to a 1st generation (n) AirPort Extreme to give Wi-Fi to other devices (iPhone, Xbox 360, PS3 etc).
Now the problem: When Internet Sharing is on regardless of what interfaces are used (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth PAN etc) eventually—that word is key—my system will hang. Internet will be unavailable to every device and my Mac itself (but they will still be connected to Wi-Fi) and any app that is running willbeachball. Any app I launch—or try to—will also beachball. I've tried leaving it to see if it will resolve itself —even overnight—but it always requires a hard reset.
The eventually part. I haven't figured out what causes this but I have an idea which I'll explain later. The times this happens is totally random. It has gone days with  no problems and other times has happened minutes apart. Usually it's about every 12-24 hours.
It's definitely Internet Sharing which is causing this because when I turn it off I don't have any problems. I've tried every configuration. Only sharing via my mini's Wi-Fi or Ethernet, leaving the AirPort out etc. As soon as I turn on Internet Sharing I've started a countdown to a hang.
On inspecting the Console the last messages before a hang without fail are always:
    12/12/2011 06:31:07.000 kernel: 80       80 AppleUSBCDCECMData: getOutputBuffer - Output buffer pool empty
    12/12/2011 06:31:07.000 kernel: 80       66 AppleUSBCDCECMData: USBTransmitPacket - Output buffer unavailable
    12/12/2011 06:58:58.312 com.apple.usbmuxd: _handle_timer Fish out of water!!!
Repeated hundreds of times. Quick Googling indicates that AppleUSBCDCECMData is a USB driver. Apparently I have version 4.1.15 which appears to be the latest.
I'm aware this is a rare configuration but I believe it affects every USB not just this particular phone.
Is anybody else experiencing this or knows a way to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Barry.
The hub is on its way to the manufacturer for after sales service...
But the issue with AirPort remains the same, even after resetting SMC.
    Some clarification:
    * It happens just after computer wakes up from sleep. Restarting solves the problem and the issue doesn't arise until computer goes standby again.
    * The whole WiFi card becomes unresponsive. It is not only the Turn Off button, but the whole functionality is stopped. The card can not be activated/deactivated and it doesn't connect to any network. If it is used for internet sharing, clients are unable to connect.

  • Created Network and Internet Sharing Problems

    Hello,
I created network with WEP password. I proceeded to turn on internet sharing.
All works great until the iMac goes to sleep.
Once it comes back on the network I created is missing and I have create it all over again.
The internet connection is through ethernet staring into the iMac.
Is there a way to get the iMac to stop forgetting the created network and leave the internet connection on? Even when it's sleeping.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi there,
Is there a reason why you chose WEP? I ask because WEP is an encryption technology that has been cracked so if possible I"d suggest you use WPA or WPA2 encryption instead. Am I correct to assume you don't have a router and all the other computers connect to the internet through the imac? If you don't have a router I'd suggest you buy one, they are not much money and provide excellent protecton from the internet. A router will protect all the computers on your network behind its firewall and would no longer have to connect through the imac.
A couple of things to check:
Go to System Preferences>Network and highlight 'Wireless' on the left side. (Also, if you don't use Bluetooth or any other type of networking listed there delete them from the list leaving only Ethernet and Airport) Uncheck 'ask to join new networks'.
Then click on 'Advanced..' and under the Airport tab make sure only your network is listed in the 'Prefered Networks' window. Under that window check 'remember any network this computer has joined' and uncheck 'disconnect from wireless networks when logging out'.
That's the way I've got my computer set up and I've never lost a connection.

  • USB hub and internet sharing stop working after sleep

    Hi,
I have a relatively new Bluestork USB hub I purchased to connect multiple USB devices I have at the same time. It used to work correctly under Leopard, but now it stops working each time the computer wakes up from sleep. I have to restart the computer for it to start working again. Both link and power LEDs stay on, even when the hub is not recognized.
My second problem is related to internet sharing. It stops working after each sleep/wakeup cycle and the only way to make it work again is to restart the computer. It used to work correctly before Snow Leopard as well.
I have all the Mac updates installed.

    Thanks Barry.
