Internet Sharing keeps needing to be reset

Hello-I am using internet sharing to allow my iPhone, iPad, and 2nd iMac access to my cable internet connection. This certainly works fine, except lately, I will try to connect to the internet on my phone, and the web pages do not load. I can fix it by going to internet sharing preferences, turning off sharing, and then turning it back on again. This is annoying, because I'm usually in the other room when I want to use the internet on one of these devices. Is there a way to fix this? I called AppleCare, and they just had me restore from Time Machine backup, which didn't resolve the issue.

Hi gallaghm,
That's not good when you notice the drop in speed is your computer connected wirelessly or wired?  If it's wireless it could be a problem with the wireless channel and resetting the hub is changing this for you. Check out this link and let me know if this helps.
Thanks

  • WRT610N keeps needing to be reset

    Hi,
My WRT610N wireless router keeps needing to be reset to be able to connect to the internet. I updated the firmware about two weeks ago and things were going great again until a day or so ago, then it started cutting out multiple times a day. I checked and there doesnt seem to be any new firmware, so now I'm at a loss as to what I need to do to fix this.
I have 3-4 computers connecting to it at a time (1 xp pc, 1 vista pc, 1-2 laptops with vista i think). Even when its just the two pcs using it, it stll disconnects.
One thing to note that has happened multiple times: the two pc's both have everquest 2 running on them, and it seems when one is logged into the game, and the other starts to log in to them (it will almost be logged in, on a loading game resources screen) the wireless router will need to be reset. This has happened enough times to make me think theres something to it.
Also, there have been a couple times when after resetting and getting it working, there will be a message that pops up about having conflicting ips, then that message goes away.

I think it a problem with firmware of your Router, you need to upgrade the firmware of your Router..
Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in search tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop
    Firmware Upgrade/Reflash
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Internet sharing keeps starting upon reboot.

I have lion installed on a mac mini with 2 usb ethernet adapters.  Everytime I reboot the mac mini, it enables Internet Sharing and changes the IP on the 2 USB ethernet interfaces to 192.168.2.1 and 192.168.3.1.  How do I stop this from happening.  Disabling it in the preferences panel and resetting the IP addresses on each interface get wiped out once the server is rebooted.

    Bump - Any Ideas?

  • Ethernet adapter keeps needing to be reset in Windows 8.1

I am running Windows 8.1 on a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro 15" which has Mavericks installed. I am using the Broadcom NetExtreme Gigabit Ethernet driver (15.6.1.3) provided through Bootcamp 5.1. Eventually, during use, Ethernet connectivity will be lost, and I will need to reset the adapter. I have done this using the troubleshooting section of the Network And Sharing Center Control Panel, manually in the command prompt (ipconfig / release followed by ipconfig /renew), or by disabling and enabling the driver in Device Manager. All three methods get ethernet back but it will eventually drop out again. Usually, but not always, when this happens the indicator lights on the gigabit switch that my cable is connected to will blink rapidly even though there is no traffic. It happens much more frequently if I am streaming audio/video or copying a large file from other computers on my network. One time it kept happening over and over and I had to restart Windows to stop it. I have never had any issues like this booted as a Mac, and my network is fine. Other devices can copy files and use the internet, so I don't think it is an issue with my switch, modem, or router. Are there any changes to settings for the driver in Device Manager that would cure this? Or is there another solution? Thanks!

If I understand you I believe I have lost connectivity to both layers. I have lost connectivity while downloading (especially while streaming) from the internet, and also while transferring data between this computer and another one on the network. My network is a simple home network with everyone on the same node (WORKGROUP). All of my other computers are Macs just running some flavor of OSX. Unfortunately I don't have another Windows PC to test with.
I did not think to test for network connectivity after losing internet connectivity. Unfortunately, although the symptom eventually will occur, I don't know when. I can't do X and always get Y. I've streamed for 10 minutes or an hour before it happens, which make diagnosis tricky.
The only commonality seems to be data load, i.e. if I am streaming or copying large data files. If it was OSX I would look at clearing caches or running Onyx, but my Windows chops are not as deep.
Could dealing with packet sizes be an issue? Thanks for responding and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

  • Monitor keeps needing to be reset

I have the Mac Mini 1,1 and have it connected to my Sony TV as its monitor.  I have the cabling connected to the Sony's PC input, and then running to my AV Receiver so I can change inputs.  I normally leave the Mini running all the time, and will switch inputs through the receiver to either display the DISH input and its programming, or the Mini's screen.  Whenever I switch the input from the DISH to the Mini, the display is all screwed up, and I have to hold the button in on the back of the Mini for 3 seconds, release the button, wait 3 seconds and briefly push the button again, and then it resets itself and is fine.  Is there someway I can fix this so I don't have to keep refreshing the display like this.  I can't do it on the display with my mouse because the image is so screwed up.

Is this after the Mii has been sleeping for awhile?
    From the news page here...

It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x

  • IMac Internet Sharing keeps dropping

I have set my iMac to share my internet connection so that I can use my MacBook wherever I am in my halls/dorm.
Since last year the connection between them keeps dropping multiple times per day and I'm left with an exclamation mark on the Airport icon on my MacBook. It sometimes resolved by renewing the DHCP lease on my iMac and sometimes by restarting Airport, but most of the time both fail and if they do work it's never for very long (a few minutes). The only way to get it working properly again is to restart my iMac.
I've also noticed that whenever the connection drops, a new network appears in the Airport menu called "Free Public WiFi". When I looked this up it seems to be an issue with Windows; something I stay well clear of and have never connected to or allowed anyone to connect to my network.
Does anyone know what the issue is and how I could resolve it?

It sounds to me that you are getting interference from a competing wi-fi signal on the same channel/frequency. Unfortunately, that is getting more common as more folks go wi-fi. Which is why in this house we are strictly ethernet, even though one Mac has a 25 meter cable to connect! There are now 7 wi-fi networks among my neighbors. (But ethernet is much faster than wi-fi, and my LAN flies with the new 10 Meg fiber optic service we just had installed! And for less cost than the 4 Meg copper wire ADSL we had from the cable company.)
I would try switching to another channel. I am not familiar with how many you have in the UK to use. It is best if you can get a free channel that has at least one network free channel between you and another signal. So if you know of another network on channel 6, then try to be at least on channel 4, if 5 is also free, or 8, if 7 is also free.

  • Disabling auto switch off Internet Sharing Lumia 7...

Is there anyway to disable the auto switch off of the auto switch off feature of the Internet Sharing on the Lumia 710?
The reason I ask, is that I want to set this up as my main Internet connection at home using the Three UK One Plan Unlimited Data plan with the phone linked via Internet Shaing to a range extender which all my family can then connect to but the Internet Sharing keeps switching off after a few minutes of inactivity.
This is obviously really annoying as I then have to go upstairs and turn on Internet Sharing again.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

There are two things you can try:
    1) Keep the AC cable plugged in. It will not shut down WiFi when connected to AC, as the shutting down is a powermanagement feature as I understood.
    2) Keep the screen on (unverified, just a thing you can try to keep the lock timeout to 'forever'. I believe this is related to the powermanagement as well.)

  • Internet sharing: iMac and G4 PPC Dual Mirror Door via firewire, fire sharing works fine with this set up now need internet sharing

I have already set up file sharing thanks to a query last year, now I need to set up internet sharing, I am using a firewire connection and my ISP has confirmed that their should be not problem in internet sharing between my iMac and my G4 PPC Dual Mirror door but after trying different combinations in the sharing set up I am still drawing a blank on this connection, any help would be appreciated

You have set up file sharing by firewire, right? Now you want to share your iMac's Internet connection with the G4. Does the G4 have an Airport wireless card? If so, set it up that way in System Prefs under Internet Sharing. If the G4 doesn't have an Airport card then you'll need to do it by Ethernet, as in this article http://www.maclife.com/article/howtos/how_share_your_wireless_internet_connectio n_ethernet. But if you do it by Ethernet then your iMac would need to be connected to your modem wirelessly, not by Ethernet, b/c you need the iMac Ethernet port for the connection to the G4. Hope this makes sense.

  • Trying to use Internet Sharing, but it keeps turning off.

    Hello all,
Alright, so I'm in a dorm room that connects to a wired ethernet network using 802.1X authentication. My MBP does that just fine. The only problem is getting my Xbox 360 online. The Xbox does not support 802.1X authentication, and the only thing the school said I could do was use a second ethernet port on my computer and Windows ICS. Of course, I know that Apple also has an ICS type thing of it's own through Internet Sharing.
I'm using the Linksys USB200M USB-Ethernet adapter as my second ethernet port. I've tried connecting to the internet using it and it works great.
The only problem I'm getting is keeping the Internet Sharing on. Everytime I turn it on, Share FROM Built-In Ethernet, and check mark the Ethernet Adapter (en3), the thing won't stay on. I'll change them menu, go back, and it's turned off.
I've searched for an answer, which required me to delete the com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist out of Library/Preferences. This DID NOT WORK.
I would really hate to have to boot into Windows Vista to use my Xbox 360, as I have been successful doing that. I like to work in OS X more than Vista.
    Thanks for your time,
    Jake

Repair Permissions if you haven't yet, then the other file that can affect that is...
    /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/preferences.plist
But it also holds all your Network info, so...
Reboot after either or both, depending what you decide.

  • HT5625 My wireless internet connection keeps defaulting from my network to a neighbors' when the computer is left idle for a few minutes. How do I reset to my stay on my network?

My default internet connection keeps defaulting to a neighbors' network when left idle for a few minutes. How do I reset to use my network?

Likely both of you have Open networks and the Mac is just connecting to the strongest one, hopefully it's just that.
If you set a encryption and a password, then it shouldn't be doing this.
WiFi security issues, at home and WiFi hotspots
If you can't do this yourself, then have a local geek come by and set you up.
Also if you head to System Preferences > Network > Airport > Advanced, there might be a connection list, you drag your connection to the top and remove the ones your not going to use.

  • Mac internet sharing but keep same network

I use Mac based internet sharing -- it's great and give my upstairs a strong wireless signal. But can I make that the SAME NETWORK as the main network for content sharing?
    Scenario -
    Airport Extreme downstairs wifi "MAIN-WIFI
Apple TV upstairs and signal is weak from Airport Extreme accessing MAIN-WIFI (no wired ethernet here)
iMac is upstairs connected to Extreme via ethernet cable. Internet Share to create upstairs wifi, named UPSTAIRS-WIFI
iMac contains large library of home movies
Super strong signal from iMac to Apple TV which is upstairs! Great!
Problem - AppleTV works great for most stuff, but cannot access the home-shared content on the iMac using UPSTAIRS-WIFI created on the iMac! To see the sharing option, I need to connect to MAIN-WIFI which is too weak to use well. It seems crazy that the iMac wifi won't show the shared content that it is homesharing.
Is there a way of internet sharing on the iMac so it's the same network and therefore would homeshare the iTunes content on it's own wifi signal?
    Thanks

Since both your AppleTV and iMac are upstairs and the iMac at least is connected to the Airport using a cable, why not use a switch? A 4-port gigabit ethernet switch can be quite inexpensive (check newegg.com) - that would connect to all three devices and effectively share the same network.
