Internet Sharing not connecting on PC

How do I setup Internet Sharing so it works on XP or Vista. It can connect to it using a mac, but when i try to connect from PC (bootcamp) it does not work. I see the network, but I cannot connect. It doesn't ask me for any password or anything, it just doesn't work. If I try with another network it works...

Are you saying that you cannot connect to the internet on either machine? Have you enabled specifically anything referred to as internet sharing on either machine. If you have, then disable it.

I am using Internet Sharing to connect my Parallels virtual machine to an EVDO connection.
I set it by setting the Novatel Wireless Card to connect to the Ethernet Adapter (en2), which is the Parallels-Host-Guest adapter. The Guest is assigned to use DHCP.
The guest gets a proper IP address and gateway, and is set to use the gateway (e.g. the NAT connection) for DNS.
But DNS requests are not answered. If I manually enter a DNS adress into the guest, all works well.
What is going on? How can I reset the Mac/Tiger behavior?

    Thank you natila.
I followed your "All I had to do was repair permissions from disk utility", then turned off airport, restarted the computer, and it worked.  Internet sharing, which stopped for no apparent reason, worked again. Thankfully.
Frustration changed to admiration, once again. I do love how the discussions among the community of Apple users make fixing problems doable for folks, like me, who are no pros at it.
    Thanks again.

  • Internet Sharing not working in 10.5.8

I'm running a Mac mini (PowerPC) with Leopard.
My situation is a little different from most. My Mac mini is connected to my network via AirPort. I use it in my home office, which is located some distance from where my Internet connection comes into the house.
I have a Nortel IP phone for working remotely from my main office. In the past, i have successfully used it with my Mac mini via Internet sharing. By turning on Internet sharing and connecting the IP phone to the Mac mini via Ethernet, it finds its server and connects without issue. I do get occasional dropouts due to the wireless bandwidth, but nothing too severe.
A few weeks ago, i updated the Mac mini to Leopard, and applied all the updates to bring it up to the most recent version available, 10.5.8. My Internet sharing no longer works.
I have tried reinstalling the 10.5.8 combo updater. I have tried the workarounds where a kext from 10.5.7 is swapped out for the more recent one. I've tried rebooting. I've tried manually setting the DHCP address on the Ethernet connection. Nothing works.
Apple, please issue a fix for this issue. My only other option at this point seems to be an archive-and-install of Leopard, then applying the 10.5.7 Combo Updater and freezing my machine there.
Are there any other fixes or workarounds that can get Internet Sharing working again? It works fine on my Snow Leopard machine.
This bug is a huge pain in the butt.

I'm having this problem but it was after I installed security update 2010-003, that put my at OS X 10.6.3.
My internet sharing isn't working but moreover, my Ethernet port isn't working at all. I can't find anything on this issue. I just updated this morning and I usually use the internet sharing to share the airport connection through the Ethernet port and have never experienced a problem until now. Now matter what I do, after restart, putting it in sleep and everything I can think of, it still says Ethernet cable is unplugged.
did you ever find a fix?

I had the same issue and I'm running Windows 7.  Tried working with technical support for several hours but they were no help.  They just had me doing the same things over and over, offering no real answers.  I finally got fed up and have decided to return my product for a full refund.

  • Radius and Internet sharing not compatible

I have 2 MBPs connected to a Leopard Server via an AEBS.
I want to connect a third ethernet device using internet sharing on one of the MBPs
Couldn't get it to work unless I switched of RADIUS authentication and downgrade to WPA/WPA2 personal key.
What am I doing wrong. Does it need additional settings on the AEBS or the server?

I have the same problem only on mobile. Keeps asking to upgrade. Its like the phone doesn't know I have this service. Or the tmo, servers do not know that my account has paid for this. • Problems with internet sharing/network connection/ethernet and XBOX 360

So basically I have a sent my Mac Book Pro 13" (Snow Leopard) away to be fixed, and in return I got a loan Mac Book Pro 15" (Lion). In the two weeks my Mac book was away getting fixed I purchased an XBOX 360, because of my location I am unable to use wireless on my XBOX, so instead I connect the loan Mac Book to the XBOX 360 via network cable.
This worked fine and I could now connect to XBOX Live and be on the Mac Book at the same time.
So today my Mac Book (13") is returned, I connect everything up exactly the same also changing the settings on internet sharing making sure that it can be used to send the connection to other devices via ethernet.
    But it just wont connect.
The XBOX doesnt find the connection like it did before, and it also doesnt register on the MAC Book either.
I've tried different cables, the same cable I used where it worked before.
I've tried turning of Virus protection.
Both still at both ends it is not registering a connection, I have used this Mac Book before through a network cable so I dont think there is a problem there, to my knowledge everything is the same as I did on the other Mac Book but this one does work.
Have you any advice or tips on how to get this to work?
    Thanks for your time.

What I did to get my network running again (although I still haven't found out why DHCP has stopped working):
    1. Open the Control Panel of the computer that's trying to connect to the network (not the computer sharing the internet connection)
    2. Go to 'Network' panel, and select the AirPort connection
    3. Under the 'TCP/IP' tab, change 'Configure IPv4' pull-down menu from 'Using DHCP' to 'Manually'.
    4. Enter an IP address between 10.0.2.2 and 10.0.2.256 (I randomly chose 10.0.2.40), a Subnet Mask of 255.255.255.0, and enter 10.0.2.1 in the Router box.
    5. Click "Apply now"
The computer should now be connected to the network, and able to access the internet. If not, you may need to manually enter a DNS server - put '4.2.2.1' (or an IP for a DNS server provided by your ISP) into the 'DNS Servers' box.
You need to do that process for each computer you're trying to connect to the shared network, making sure you enter a different IP Address for each.

  • Internet Sharing not working since 10.6.6 upgrade

Hi all. Hopefully someone can help me as I've been racking my brains on this one.
I originally had Internet Sharing setup from ethernet cable to airport and working perfectly. I could then access the internet wirelessly using my iphone and mac book.
Since upgrading to 10.6.6 (at least I think so) it has stopped working.
Internet is working perfectly on mac mini and other devices can access the internet through working wireless modem downstairs. I need to turn on Internet sharing through the mac mini so that we have internet on the 3rd floor of our townhouse.
I've tried switching off Internet Sharing, then restarting the computer, turning it on again and switching on internet sharing with a different network name, password, channel etc. Nothing seems to get it working again.
I've emptied the trash (200,000 files which is a bit of a worry) and repaired permissions.
Any suggestions would be a great help.
    Cheers

No solution here; I'm having the same problem.

  • Lumia 920 Internet Sharing not working with Window...

I am unable to get Internet Sharing to work from a nokia Lumia 920 to Dell XPS running Windows 8 with Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030. Help !!
    Things I have tried:
+ Checked the phone was actually working with Internet sharing:  Different laptop running Winows XP connected fine, everything worked
+ Checked the Dell XPS could connect to inernet sharing using an HTC One as the hot spot: everything worked fine.
+ Tried turning on FIPS: made no difference:
+ Tried updating/different drivers: made no difference
+ Tried turning of N, and only using g: made no difference
+ Tried different access point settigns on the phone: made no difference
This is one of those things I expect to just work, like it does when the phoen is used with a different laptop, or when a different phone is used with this laptop.
I've run out of ideas. Any help appreciated.

Finally fixed it. First I tried using the latest Intel drivers, but to no avail. So I did a driver rollback, and that seems to be working. Driver version now at 14.2.1.3, Microsoft release.
So problem is a compaitibility issue with the drivers on the windows laptop.  All I can advise others having similar problems is keep trying different drivers (newest not necessarily the best)

  • Internet Sharing not providing a client an IP

I have turned on Internet Sharing on a 10.4.7 machine connected to the internet, and the other 10.4.7 machine is happily joining the wireless network created by the sharing machine. However, the client machine is not receiving an IP address from the connection sharing machine. Is there a bug here? Documentation does not describe that I need to set up the IP manually?

I found that the OSX firewall blocks necessary traffic if UDP blocking is turned on. I fixed the problem while leaving the firewall intact by making a rule to pass port 68 UDP traffic. After this, and with the firewall fully enabled, My client machine received an IP address within a few seconds of connecting.
Apple Support please put this port information into the support documents describing how to enable Internet Sharing.

  • Internet sharing not working anymore

    Hi all,
since I've installed Snow Leopard i can't anymore share my internet connection with other devices / computers. Everything worked perfectly on Leopard, but now when i turn on internet sharing via airport, other devices (macBook Pro and ipod touch / iphone) CAN connect to network but CAN'T connect to the internet. (document share not working to...)
Also if I create a simple airport network (no internet sharing) computers can't connect to each others and share documents.
Please help as everything was working greatly with Snow Leopard, but this is such a big problem that I would have to go back (great pain and job interruption) to leopard...
Tried deleting / recreating positions, and to cancel pref files but same problem....

I have a first gen iPhone and just got mine working today by following these steps.
The following procedure is confirmed to work as written.
Start Internet Sharing if it's not already running.
In Terminal, type cp /etc/bootpd.plist /tmp/bootpd.plist
    Stop Internet Sharing.
Open "open -e /tmp/bootpd.plist" for editing using TextEdit or whatever.
Locate this section of the file, near the end:
    <key>replythresholdseconds</key>
    <integer>4</integer>
Change the value 4 to 0.
In Terminal, type sudo cp /tmp/bootpd.plist /etc
    Start Internet Sharing.
If you want to, check that your change to /etc/bootpd.plist hasn't been reverted.
Then i just restarted my phone and everything seems to working for the past few hours.

  • Internet sharing not installed

I've been trying to share my internet connection from my powerbook G4 to my iBook G4 and my other powerbook G4. Unfortunately, the problem I've come across is really bizarre. I went into preferences, sharing, and internet. It says that internet sharing is not installed. Then it says to install internet sharing by installing the BSD package from my OSX CD.
Well, I installed the BSD package. Then I tried going through preferences again.
    No luck.
    Restarted.
    Still no luck.
Ideas? Please? I have the personal web sharing on, as well, on all the laptops. I can't think of anything else that would work.

    Hi, welcome to discussions.
One essential for internet sharing is the Network Address Translation daemon.
installed as a unix executable file at /usr/sbin/natd.
It is required to divert packets from the internet connection to the sharing port, e.g from Built-in Ethernet to Airport.
This file was installed on my Ibook G4 as part of the basic system, but its absence might result in the request to install the BSD package, when in fact you may need to reinstall Tiger. (I looked and I cant find it in the BSD package). Or it may be simply that you need to repair permissions.
Check if /usr/sbin/natd is installed using Finder->Go->Go to folder-> /usr/sbin and look for natd.

  • Internet sharing not working on my Macbook Pro

I am trying to connect my DSi to the internet using the internet sharing on my mac since I am at school. I successfully connected it last year but am having no luck this year. I used this website (http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20051119155606277) both times, but am having no luck this time. I entered all of the correct information into my DSi so I am thinking it may have something to do with the Macbook Pro.

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box (top right), other threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Lumia 920, Black update, and Internet sharing not ...

I have a pair of Lumia 920s, both the developer edition given out at Microsoft Build 2012.  Both updated to Lumia Black/gddr3 yesterday without any issues, both running on AT&T.
however, on one of them, the Internet Sharing no longer works, while on the other, it still works fine.  I have swapped sim cards, and the problem stays with the one specific phone, and is not tied to the line.
I have reset and wiped the phone, and tried to reconfigure it (including reinstalling the spanish/mexico keyboard, which has solved this problem in the past).
I have checked access point configuration, and both match.  Both are running on LTE.  I'm at a loss how to get it working again, as I've been through everything that I know of to make it work.
    Any thoughts?
