Internet Sharing wont work on airport

I recently tried turning internet sharing on my my macbook and when i connect on my ipod touch i cant connect to the internet and on the computer it shows the ip address ant tells me that i cannot connect to the interent.

There s nothing much to do on your phones side except to enable Internet Sharing in Settings. You need to ensure that tethering is enabled on your account. If unsure, contact your service provider. Is laptop set to auto ip?

  • Internet Sharing not working in 10.5.8

I'm running a Mac mini (PowerPC) with Leopard.
My situation is a little different from most. My Mac mini is connected to my network via AirPort. I use it in my home office, which is located some distance from where my Internet connection comes into the house.
I have a Nortel IP phone for working remotely from my main office. In the past, i have successfully used it with my Mac mini via Internet sharing. By turning on Internet sharing and connecting the IP phone to the Mac mini via Ethernet, it finds its server and connects without issue. I do get occasional dropouts due to the wireless bandwidth, but nothing too severe.
A few weeks ago, i updated the Mac mini to Leopard, and applied all the updates to bring it up to the most recent version available, 10.5.8. My Internet sharing no longer works.
I have tried reinstalling the 10.5.8 combo updater. I have tried the workarounds where a kext from 10.5.7 is swapped out for the more recent one. I've tried rebooting. I've tried manually setting the DHCP address on the Ethernet connection. Nothing works.
Apple, please issue a fix for this issue. My only other option at this point seems to be an archive-and-install of Leopard, then applying the 10.5.7 Combo Updater and freezing my machine there.
Are there any other fixes or workarounds that can get Internet Sharing working again? It works fine on my Snow Leopard machine.
This bug is a huge pain in the butt.

I'm having this problem but it was after I installed security update 2010-003, that put my at OS X 10.6.3.
My internet sharing isn't working but moreover, my Ethernet port isn't working at all. I can't find anything on this issue. I just updated this morning and I usually use the internet sharing to share the airport connection through the Ethernet port and have never experienced a problem until now. Now matter what I do, after restart, putting it in sleep and everything I can think of, it still says Ethernet cable is unplugged.
did you ever find a fix?

  • If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.

If I have my iMac internet sharing turned on, the Airport Utility won't recognize the Airport Express I want to use to stream iTunes to my stereo.  When I turn the iMac internet sharing off, the Airport Express appears but calls itself a base station.  I just bought the Airport Express and it's not clear how I should set up my System Preferences for Sharing.  Thx

Yes. Unfortunately the stereo is too far from the wired ethernet connection   My iMac is connected to the internet using an ethernet cable from the DSL modem (plugged into the wall, not wireless).  The Airport Express is plugged into an outlet 25' away from the iMac and connected to my speakers.  I've turned on the iMac Airport wireless Internet Sharing, hoping to stream iTunes to the Express connected to the stereo.  The iMac Airport picks up several neighborhood networks so I know it's working (and I connected my iPhone wifi to it just to check as well).
When I use Airport Utility to set up the Express, the only time Utility recognizes the Express is when the iMac Airport is off.  When I turn on the iMac Airport, the Airport Utility immediately loses the Express and asks to rescan.
Maybe that explains my problem better.

  • Lumia 920 Internet Sharing not working with Window...

I am unable to get Internet Sharing to work from a nokia Lumia 920 to Dell XPS running Windows 8 with Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030. Help !!
    Things I have tried:
+ Checked the phone was actually working with Internet sharing:  Different laptop running Winows XP connected fine, everything worked
+ Checked the Dell XPS could connect to inernet sharing using an HTC One as the hot spot: everything worked fine.
+ Tried turning on FIPS: made no difference:
+ Tried updating/different drivers: made no difference
+ Tried turning of N, and only using g: made no difference
+ Tried different access point settigns on the phone: made no difference
This is one of those things I expect to just work, like it does when the phoen is used with a different laptop, or when a different phone is used with this laptop.
I've run out of ideas. Any help appreciated.

Finally fixed it. First I tried using the latest Intel drivers, but to no avail. So I did a driver rollback, and that seems to be working. Driver version now at 14.2.1.3, Microsoft release.
So problem is a compaitibility issue with the drivers on the windows laptop.  All I can advise others having similar problems is keep trying different drivers (newest not necessarily the best)

  • IMac 10.8 Internet sharing stopped working after upgrade from 10.7

My iMac 27 (10.7) with Internet Sharing enabled has been working perfectly since last year. After upgrading to 10.8, I noticed the up arrow flashes and goes to regular WiFi mode. Stopping/starting the service causes the up arrow to flash again and immediately default to WiFi. I removed Ethernet and WiFi options from Network settings and re-installed which solved the Internet sharing from flashing and defaulting to WiFi mode. However, connecting to the Internet sharing from other devices (iphone/ipad) does not work and will not connect to the internet. On the iMac, I'm able to browse the Internet without issues.
If I disconnect the Ethernet cable and plug into either my MacBook or MacBook Pro and enable Internet sharing, everything works perfectly and all my other devices can use the Internet.
Now sure how to further troubleshoot and resolve this issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I should add that the iMac is running Mac OS X Server which was also upgraded to 10.8. I was looking inside the Server for security options that restricted internet access via Internet sharing. Nothing.
    Thank you!
    David

    Thanks for your answer.
Unfortunately this isn't a solution for my problem. As I understood, you showed me that your IP addresses had changed after enabling/disabling internet sharing. I checked my IP addresses after enabling/disabling internet sharing by using "ifconfig" but they are the same as set manually before.
My other strange observation regarding the ping command has gone now. After switching on internet sharing I had to disconnect the ethernet cable and plug it in again. Then the ping between both computers is working (but still not internet sharing).
Anyway ... thanks for your help!

  • USB hub and internet sharing stop working after sleep

    Hi,
I have a relatively new Bluestork USB hub I purchased to connect multiple USB devices I have at the same time. It used to work correctly under Leopard, but now it stops working each time the computer wakes up from sleep. I have to restart the computer for it to start working again. Both link and power LEDs stay on, even when the hub is not recognized.
My second problem is related to internet sharing. It stops working after each sleep/wakeup cycle and the only way to make it work again is to restart the computer. It used to work correctly before Snow Leopard as well.
I have all the Mac updates installed.

    Thanks Barry.
The hub is on its way to the manufacturer for after sales service...
But the issue with AirPort remains the same, even after resetting SMC.
    Some clarification:
    * It happens just after computer wakes up from sleep. Restarting solves the problem and the issue doesn't arise until computer goes standby again.
    * The whole WiFi card becomes unresponsive. It is not only the Turn Off button, but the whole functionality is stopped. The card can not be activated/deactivated and it doesn't connect to any network. If it is used for internet sharing, clients are unable to connect.

  • Internet Sharing not working since 10.6.6 upgrade

Hi all. Hopefully someone can help me as I've been racking my brains on this one.
I originally had Internet Sharing setup from ethernet cable to airport and working perfectly. I could then access the internet wirelessly using my iphone and mac book.
Since upgrading to 10.6.6 (at least I think so) it has stopped working.
Internet is working perfectly on mac mini and other devices can access the internet through working wireless modem downstairs. I need to turn on Internet sharing through the mac mini so that we have internet on the 3rd floor of our townhouse.
I've tried switching off Internet Sharing, then restarting the computer, turning it on again and switching on internet sharing with a different network name, password, channel etc. Nothing seems to get it working again.
I've emptied the trash (200,000 files which is a bit of a worry) and repaired permissions.
Any suggestions would be a great help.
    Cheers

No solution here; I'm having the same problem.
In a hotel with wired Ethernet to my MacBook Pro. Once I enable Internet Sharing, the Pro's Internet connectivity goes down. Looks like I get two "default" routes. I can connect my iPhone4 fine to the WiFi created, with WEP enabled; that's not my problem.
Destination        Gateway            Flags        Refs      Use   Netif Expire
    default            172.29.7.254       UGSc          119        2     en0

  • Cannot get Internet Sharing to work

    Hi,
Has anyone ever had success with internet sharing? Basically we are trying to avoid buying an Airport Base Station.
Ever since OS 10.0 I've fiddled with sharing my ethernet connection over airport via Internet Sharing. I've never had success.
Current setup is an Intel iMac hardwired with ethernet, trying to share internet with a Powerbook G4. Personal web sharing is switched on. I've toggled the firewall on and off, no success. On the powerbook I just get a strong signal, and the network status shows that the "airport has a self-assigned IP address and may not be able to connect to the internet."
    Thanks!

here is how i do it:
I recieve wifi with my macbook. In sysprefs i tell it to share my connection from airport to computers using ethernet (u would choose fw, no prob)
I also have personal file sharing turned on under the services tab as well as remote login, this is probly not nec.
under network (still on the comp recieving primary internet connect.in your case thru ethernet..) go to show FW and pull down DHCP using manual address. this is crucial. Now enter in the ip address 192.168.2.90
where it says DNS enter 208.67.222.222
now go to your recipient computer, go to network select the good ol show FW and this time on the pull down select "using DHCP"
manually enter the DNS as 208.67.220.220
Im not sure if its necessary but i turn the person file sharing on as well as remote login. on the recipient computer i do not turn on the internet sharing of course.
this should work. it works splendidly for me.

  • Internet sharing not working anymore

    Hi all,
since I've installed Snow Leopard i can't anymore share my internet connection with other devices / computers. Everything worked perfectly on Leopard, but now when i turn on internet sharing via airport, other devices (macBook Pro and ipod touch / iphone) CAN connect to network but CAN'T connect to the internet. (document share not working to...)
Also if I create a simple airport network (no internet sharing) computers can't connect to each others and share documents.
Please help as everything was working greatly with Snow Leopard, but this is such a big problem that I would have to go back (great pain and job interruption) to leopard...
Tried deleting / recreating positions, and to cancel pref files but same problem....

I have a first gen iPhone and just got mine working today by following these steps.
The following procedure is confirmed to work as written.
Start Internet Sharing if it's not already running.
In Terminal, type cp /etc/bootpd.plist /tmp/bootpd.plist
    Stop Internet Sharing.
Open "open -e /tmp/bootpd.plist" for editing using TextEdit or whatever.
Locate this section of the file, near the end:
    <key>replythresholdseconds</key>
    <integer>4</integer>
Change the value 4 to 0.
In Terminal, type sudo cp /tmp/bootpd.plist /etc
    Start Internet Sharing.
If you want to, check that your change to /etc/bootpd.plist hasn't been reverted.
Then i just restarted my phone and everything seems to working for the past few hours.

  • Internet sharing - stopped working, can't turn off

I am confused - I have set up Internet Sharing from my iMac. It has worked without a problem, having my iBook sharing the iMac's Internet connection through a SpeedTouch USB modem via Airport, but the other day it wouldn't work any more; using the diagnostics on the iBook shows all green, but no pages will open in neither Safari nor Firefox.
The connection works fine on the iMac, though.
But then I thought I'd better turn off the sharing since it doesn't work, but opening the Sharing panel in Sys Prefs shows me that everything is dimmed; the modem in the drop down list, as well as Airport Options. I have to stop sharing to make changes, but when I click the Stop-button, nothing happens! I have stopped Web Sharing, but no go.
In short; I am stuck. Anyone got a solution? At least as to how to turn it off?

No, and as far as I have understood, repairing permissions doesn't solve as much as we hoped for once:)
But again, as it often is with my mysterious problems, it has been solved. Probably just because I disconnected the USB-modem (a kind of modem I find strange and I think I prefer modems with an Ethernet interface, but that is what my ISP gave me...) and then I was able to stop the sharing.
I also had to restart the computer after an installation and that might have fixed whatever it was, because when I started the sharing again, it worked on the iBook...
But if you asked me what happened, I cannot tell you. The only thing I know, is that when you have an ADSL (DSL)-connection through a USB-modem, one needs to disconnect to do certain things...
Oh well. As long as it works...

  • Internet Sharing stopped working on Mavericks (10.9)

I've used to use my Internet Sharing in my home through my MacBook Pro. Lately, it's not working and sometimes it back to work correctly. But now it's not working with me. I don't know what is the problem!
Is there any popular issues with this problem? or is there any other sloutions to recover it again! I am using USB Modem for the internet.

    Hi, UnderEu,
I think to uninstall "AirParrot", "DiskplayLink" or simmialr Apps in Mavericaks, not only you have to move the Apps to Trash Bin, But also you need to uninstall their Audio & Video drivers & Settings. (which is the reason case the Crash of the system)
For the case of AirParrot, you need to do following command in Terminial Line to clear out the driver and setting:
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

  • Internet sharing stopped working after restart

    Hi,
I'm connected to internet via thunderbolt->rj-45 reduction. I need to share intenet connection to my iphone and ipad via wifi. It worked fine until I restarted mac. Now I can see mac is connected to internet and sharing is on. On my iphone/ipad I can see the wifi name - i'm even connected to this wifi - but when I want to browse some webpage, safari is loading forever (to timeout)..
The firewall doesn't matter, because it worked fine before restart and I didnt changed any settings.
I tryied to turn off and on the Internet sharing, change security settings, restart wifi DHCP settings but nothing worked.
I tryied to set static IP's on mac and iphone/ipad but it still the same issue - devices can connect but internet doesn't work (loading forever).
I have OSX Moutain Lion 10.8.4 - Macbook Pro with retina
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Internet sharing not working in lion. Bug?

Hi guys - Internet sharing of my office ethernet connection is gone. It just doesn't work anymore. I hope that if we insist flagging this, they will fix it. It was really useful at work to share my connection with mobile devices.

Seems like there is no fix yet. Whenever I turn on internet sharing, the wifi will get a self assigned ip of 169.X.X.X and no wifi devices like iphone can get an ip by connecting to this network. It was working fine prior to Lion.
