Internet Sharing (Xbox360,MacBookPro,Clearwire)

Howdy Folks.
Bit of a funky network question;
My goal is to get my xbox360 to share internet via internet my MacbookPro with ClearWire 4G USB connector.
I turned on internet sharing from system preferences>sharing. From "4g Wimax" to "Ethernet". I plugged an ethernet cable from macbook to the "internet" port on my router, and then ran a ethernet cable to the xbox, the xbox detects the network, but not the internet.
I'm pretty tech savvy but not a network wiz.
I reset the modem, but left it on default settings.
Do I need custom DNS or IP addresses on the router?
Is there something else I need to set up on my Mac?
Would it be easier to bypass the router and just plug cable direct to Xbox?

well i got a xbox360 and i try to share my internet through the ethernet port, i went into the system pref and i went to sharing and i selected internet sharing and turned it on. still doesnt work tried restarted both systems and tried using different combo's.(im gettin my internet wirelessly) nothing is working anybody know why?

I have gotten the ICS turned on for my ethernet and I have a wireless connection on the mac.
I get the IP test confirmed but am halted at the DNS part.

Xbox360 Internet sharing

I got my macbook earlier a couple of months ago.
I had read online that you could share the ethernet port and the internet connection as a result. The way i would do this is by going into netinfo manager and getting the ip,dns, router, ect and would put that in the manual xbox network settings.
It worked with out a hitch.
I recently bought leopard and decided to do a clean install.
I thought that the internet sharing would work the same as in tiger (keeping the same numbers in the network settings on the xbox), but no luck. I tried to look for netinfo, but it seems that apple removed this utility : (.
Has anyone gotten it to work.
I'm too cheap to get the xbox wireless adaptor.

OSX 10.6.8 and Internet Sharing to Ethernet

I am trying to set up Internet Sharing so that I can connect my old MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 via ethernet to another device - I'm trying with xbox360 and Sony Blu Ray (BPD-S185) (for diversity of devices - I used to have it working on my xbox, but really want it working with the blu ray player but the network status feedback is better for problem solving on the xbox!).
I have my MBP connected to my home network over Airport which has the following details:
- IP: 192.168.1.5
- Router IP: 192.168.1.1
I have then enabled Internet Sharing through System Preferences to share my Airport connection to my Ethernet connection.
I have the following Ethernet settings:
- Configure IPv4: Using DHCP with manual address
- (Ethernet) IP address: 192.168.2.1
- Subnet Mask: (blank - not user accessable, changes to 255.255.255.0 when xbox turned on)
- Router: (blank - not user accessable)
- DNS Server: 192.168.1.1
- Search Domains: (left blank)
On the xbox I've set the network settings to:
- IP: 192.168.2.2
- Subnet: 255.255.255.0
- Gateway: 192.168.2.1
- Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1
- Secondary DNS: 192.168.2.1
When I then select 'Test my Xbox Live Connection' it takes a while, the Network status shows 'Connected', however The Internet Failed. I am informed that the 'Test Failed' and 'more information' tells me I have an 'Internet Error' with the following Status codes:

Z: 0000-0000

So, it looks as though the problem lies with the MBP and internet sharing on OSX. I have extra suspicions that this is the problem, as connecting my Blu Ray player to my MBP via ethernet I also get a successful connection to the network, but no internet access.
Pleeeeease can someone help?!?! This is driving me nuts - a couple of years ago I had internet sharing working to let my xbox connect to the internet, so what's happened in the last few years to mean this won't work?

If you want to back it up there, use the Disk Utility to create a disk image of it.
If you want to import its contents to iMovie, iTunes, or elsewhere, use MPEG Streamclip and Apple's MPEG-2 playback component to convert the VOB files on it to a different format.

Internet Sharing won't work, greyed out... but not on! Suggestions?

I'm trying to start internet sharing on my MacBookPro (13-inch, Mid 2012).
I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E2617).
Ethernet is on and connected. Wifi is on and connected to a created network (which I created to share out my internet).
Why are the options to turn it on greyed out? Any suggestions appreciated, as I'm tearing my hair out here.
Also, the box to turn on internet sharing is greyed out. (a non greyed out box appears as fully white when selected in the list.)
Any help is much appreciated.

Help with using internet sharing on my MacBook Pro with an old mac mini

I have an old mini osx 10.4.11 with no wifi. My much newer MacBookPro osx10.6.7 can't seem to share it's internet connection between it and the mini via ethernet cable. I'm using the MacBook airport to connect to my SMC router.
The DHCP on the mini has an IP, and it seems correct. But, I can't get a browser to connect. Can someone suggest a way to troubleshoot?

That is the more difficult of the forms of Internet sharing possible on a Mac. Of course the easiest thing to do is put out US$100 and just get an AirPort Express and connect the mini to the Express' Ethernet port. The mini would have the fastest connection that your router puts out with none of the hassles of connecting and disconnecting when you want to leave with the MacBook.
Read over my last comment in this thread for the configuration of wi-fi to Ethernet. Just substitute the mini for the XBox.

IPhone - OSX 10.5.6 internet sharing via wifi has packet loss

I try to access the web on the iPhone (for testing purposes) via the bult-in internet sharing capability of my MacBookPro via WiFi. I get very slow connections and high packet loss on distances of less than a foot.
If I activate Internet sharing (eth0 - AirPort) I have packet loss of up to 80% on a Ping to the iPhone. This results in an unusable connection. In this case the iPhone gets a DHCP address from the DSL box (10.0.2.2). Pay attention to the HUGE standard deviation of the packets in case of the internet sharing!!
If anyone has config hints, I appreciate that very much. Does anyone know how to bridge en0 to Airport with WEP enabled?

If I set up a Computer-Computer network with a WEP password I get no packet loss, but of course I cannot access the internet that way because there is no way in preferences to bridge the networks.

I accidentally found a workaround:
1. Activate internet sharing
2. Goto network preferences and use AirPort: "Create network ..."
3. Check require Password and create a C2C network
4. The Airport Icon changes from the up-arrow to the computer icon
5. Connect with the iPhone.
Packet loss is gone and sharing works fine.
BIG BUG: Procedure has to be repeated every time AirPort is turned on/off, as Internet Sharing disables/resets the airport setup!

Unreliable Internet Sharing in Leopard

I am having a lot of trouble when attempting to share an Ethernet based Internet connection via the AirPort on my Mac Book Pro. The connection does in fact work, but is very, very slow and unreliable -- especially for email. Web browsing is sort of OK, but fetching email via POP and sending via SMTP barely works.
(The machine that is sharing the connection is a 12" Powerbook. Both are running 10.5.1, and Internet Sharing was totally fine when they were both running 10.4.)
One curiosity: if I open a terminal window and run a ping command on the Powerbook (the remote machine getting it's connection via the AirPort, not the one hosting the connection) things do improve; not markedly, but enough to get some work done.
I am wondering if this is a firewall issue at all. I saw on some post that one part of the new firewall looks at the time between incoming packets, and considers those spaced too far apart as "new connections." I don't know if that's true... but it might explain why keeping a ping going improves things a bit.
Anyway, there's enough posts on the net to indicate something is rotten in Denmark when it comes to Internet Sharing on 10.5; but I did not find any answers to help me with my particular situation.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

I too am having almost identical problems. My configuration is a MacBookPro (OS 10.5.1) getting an internet connection via a Verizon Wireless broadband Express card which works fine insofar as the MacBookPro is concerned (cable modem or DSL is not an option). I am trying to share this internet connection via airport to my wife's MacBook (also OS 10.5.1). After initial start up I can receive web pages on the MacBook OK, but after several pages of satisfactory operation pages start loading slowly until finally they completely stop loading (Loading X of Y items or Contacting XYZ). At this point all internet functions on the MacBook (mail, software update) are inoperative. Sharing works fine with a G5 iMac, G4 iBook and PowerBook (all OS 10.4)
I have spent hours on the phone with Applecare & in the Apple retail store with technicians, to no avail. Assuming it is an OS 10.5 issue, I hope a fix is forthcoming quickly.

I would like to use my smartphone HTC S730 which has a flat fee 3G internet connection to act as modem for my MacBookPro. This way I don't need a seperate datacard for my laptop and, when using USB my smartphone's battery is charged too.
BUT, Leopard > system preferences > internet sharing doesn't show USB (or Bluetooth) as option(s) for sharing. I have to choose Airport, Ethernet or Firewire. My smartphone cannot connect via one of these three options. iCentre store in Amsterdam couldn't answer my question. Any suggestions?

Port forwarding through Internet Sharing

Here's my setup:
- I have a Linksys router, I have that connected wirelessly to my macbook, I have that setup for Ethernet internet sharing to my desktop pc.
- I want to enable port forwarding so that I can access my PC through VNC.
- My macbooks ip address is within 192.168.1.x and my desktop's IP address from the macbook is within 192.168.2.x
- When I connect to my router and try to set up port forwarding I can only forward ports within the 192.168.1.x range.
- I've tried a bunch of garbage to get it set up, one main thing I've tried was to st my PC's ip address statically to something withing 192.168.1.x, but my default gateway address is 192.168.2.1 so I'm not even sure if thats possible.
- I really need some help with this, any would be very much appreciated.

Hi guys. My setup is pretty simple. I have a Terayon cable modem hooked to an iMac. Im doing internet sharing to everybody. I don't need an access point and don't wish to have to buy a new one when I have such a beautiful machine right.
So I want to do port forwarding using the internet share to connect an XBox360.

Anyway I can't see how to do it but I know that for you guys this is all puppy chow. So i decided to give you guys the opportunity to be creative with this setup.

Open DNS and internet sharing

I am seeing strange behavior, and wondering if anyone has a thought about what is going on.
I am at a hotel with fast internet service over ethernet, but, for whatever reason, DNS seems very slow if I use DHCP to connect (timeouts of 5-10 secs to get to a new site). If I switch to DHCP with fixed DNS, and use the Open DNS servers (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) the latency issues go away.
The interesting thing is that I am sharing the internet connection over Airport to my wife's computer (she connecting thru DHCP). If I use a fixed DNS for MY computer, then her computer cannot connect thru internet sharing. But if I use the (slow) DHCP connection, then she can connect through mine. I have not tried setting up her computer with a fixed DNS, as she really doesn't like me to change settings on her computer
Is this a known limitation of internet sharing, or is there something I should know?

In more detail, if my ethernet (the computer that is doing the sharing), is set up with Configure: Using DHCP, and DNS Server: 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220 (in Network Panel for Ethernet), then the computer connecting thru Internet Sharing in Sharing Panel is not able to access some or all resources thru http (ie, pages fail to load, or do not fully load).
However, if I clear the DNS Server part in the Network Panel, thereby using the the DNS Servers supplied by the hotel, then my computer's connection to the internet is slower, with long waits (presumably due to a slow DNS server), but computers accessing the internet via Airport thru my shared connection are able to browse the internet successfully.
I suspect that when I have a fixed DNS server in my computer, that fact is not broadcast to computers using the shared connection. But I am not an expert in TCP/IP, and may well be confused about how DHCP, DNS, and Apple's Internet Sharing work together.

Can't create airport/wifi internet-sharing network with other laptop

I have an iBook running Tiger 10.4.11 connected to the net with ethernet. The internet connection comes through a radio antenna which acts like a router to which I don't have access.
I want to share my internet connection, and to be able to transfer files, between the iBook and another laptop. I've tried it with two - one running Fedora 11 (mine) and one running Windows XP, and have the same problems with both.
I turn wifi on on the ibook and linux laptop. I turn on internet sharing from built-in ethernet to airport in System Preferences. First I try it with no encryption. 'Other settings may interfere with internet sharing' shows up; it tells me to enable Personal Web Sharing, which I do. When I click start Little Snitch tells me natd wants to connect to 10.0.2.1 (presumably the router in the antenna), which I allow. I try to connect with the linux laptop and it tries then disconnects.
1) isn't personal web sharing for serving web pages? — why is it necessary here at all?
2) what am I doing wrong in making my network work?
If I enable encryption using WEP, the other password asks me for authenticication, I put in the password, and it then tells me the network has been disconnected.
3) is WEP the best encryption I can use from Tiger?
4) I think the problem's with Tiger (both laptops can connect to other wifi networks not set up by me). Is there a piece of free software I can use to share the connection instead of the built-in one?
I can't make a functional network in reverse either (i.e. setting it up on the other laptop and trying to connect wirelessly with the ibook).

Back on that part, at that Point the Mac is a NATD Router, don't try to connect to the other computers.
On the Mac, with Internet Sharing enabled, open NetInfo Manager in Applications>Utilities.
From there on out, it's a bit foggy, but iirc Config>DHCP>Subnets><the subnet>, then down where it says com.apple.nat... what does it report for IPs?
If it were say 10.43.29.1 then the others trying to join should have that as a Router/Gateway, and then 10.43.29.2, 10.43.29.3, etc. as IPs.
Apple says you can't set it Manually, but I've had it work a couple of times.

Remote App and Internet Sharing Problem

Ok so basically heres the setup we have, we have one of the recent iMacs, a Macbook, and 3 PC's, one running XP and the other 2 Vista. All of these computers are on a network together. All our music is on one of the Vista PC's, called "SERVER". This PC is connected to the speaker system, so is what we use for music.
Now I've been trying to use an iPod Touch we have (most recent firmware 2.2, and most recent Remote app version.) and the remote app to control the itunes on this PC. This is not an issue when the iPod is connected to the Wifi the router itself provides (its one of those wireless routers), but when I switch the Wifi the iPod is using to the Wifi provided by the iMac using internet sharing, it suddenly can't find the library anymore. Internet (safari) still works fine from the ipod when connected to this Wifi point.
My guess is that because the iMac using internet sharing seems to act more like a router than a wireless access point (allocating its own IP adresses ect..), the iPod thinks its on a different wireless network, and thus cant see the itunes library. Obviously the iMac is connected to the router directly by ethernet, if I hadnt mentioned that.
So, my question is, can I fix this ?
Is there any way to make the internet sharing mac behave like a wireless access point and not like a router ?

asuming you mean internet sharing as in you connect adhoc to 1 computer using wifi and the rest of the network is wired
problems is the middle name of adhoc wifi though cause everybody problems imho
and wifi routers are soo cheap most people don't bother
even if internet sharing is used remote app should still work if not connecting adhoc at least it's working for me right now
with a setup of many computers 1 wifi router
1 computer sharing internet using an usb 3g modem
remote app works with all my computers and my appletv

Touble with Internet Sharing since latest Aiport Update

Up to yesterday I was able to share seamlessly my internet connection on my iMac using built in airport as a router. Since the last update, every time I open internet sharing is running on my iMac while connected to the internet, sharing my connection from ethernet using Airport within 30 second of my iPod been connected to my Wireless signal my internet connection die, and can no longer access the internet with my iMac or iPod. The only way to get back my internet connection is to disable internet sharing in system preference.

Just to be clear,
1. You are connecting fine on your iPhone (meaning that you have the 3 bars next to your Carrier in the top left of the screen)
2. you can't access the internet on you iPhone
