Internet speed dropped from 2Mbps to 135Kbps for p...

Hi,
Until last week i had 2Mbps internet which was fine and stable, then it suddenly dropped to 135K.
I did not change anything on my network to caus this
I have tried a different router/cables/microfilters and virus checked with avira and malwarebytes none of which did anything so i am convinced it is an external problem.
I called india who reckoned i had 6Meg available.
Please can you find out if anything has changed somewhere else in your network or with my account that would cause this.
here is the speedtest results
Download speedachieved during the test was - 114 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :6624 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)

Hi Welcome Your IP Profile has dropped because of a noise issue on your line causing the exchange equipment to see your line as unstable normally the profile will rise within a period of 3/5 days providing there are no restarts on your hub.
Some exchanges are now using a new profiling system that gives 88.2% of your connection speed the profile change on these exchanges is immediate at the new connection speed all you can do is wait while the exchange equipment restores your profile

Problem: slow connection. I have an iMac (2007) running on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I just had my internet speed increased from 1 to 3 Mbps but my connection slowed down considerably. Do I have to change any setting on the computer, and how?

One possibility is that you may need to "Upgrade" your Cable /DSL Modem if you have an older unit.  ISP's that provide your Internet service in recent years have been switching over from DOCSIS 2.1 version Modems to DOCSIS 3.0 version Modems, which handle the new higher data streaming speeds the ISP's are offering.  I would suggest you call your ISP's Technical Support and inquire about this possibility.

  • Internet speed drops 85% when routed through WRT160NL

I have a WRT160NL, and it decreases my internet speed from 3700kbps down to 550kbps when I route through it.
My ADSL modem is connected via ethernet cable to the WRT160NL, then I have an ethernet cable from port#1 of the WRT160NL to my desktop computer. With this connection, I get a download of about 550kbps.
When I route directly from my ADSL modem to my desktop (bypassing the WRT160NL) my download speed is 3700kbps. I've checked all cables and connections. What is causing the speed to drop by 85%?
    thanks,

As you are facing the problem on your Hardwired computer, then you change the settings on your Router... Once you login to the Router setup page.. Below the Setup you will find MTU size which will be set to AUTO so you need to change it to Manual and change the Size from 1500 to 1365 and click on Save Settings..... Then click on the Security tab and Disable "SPI Firewall" and Uncheck "Filter Anonymous Internet Requests" and click on Save Settings...
Now you need to power cycle your Network... Unplug the Power from the Router and Modem, Wait for 30seconds and then plug the Power to the Modem, Once all the Lights are lid on the Modem then Plug the Power to the Linksys Router...
Now you can check the Speed, what the speed you are getting it on your Computer....
If you still face the same problem then i think you need to upgrade the firmware of your Router.. Go to website linksysbycisco.com/downloads.........insert model no of your router in serach tab......select proper version of your router........download the firmware file......save that file on desktop....
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Broadband speed drops from 4mb to less than 0.5mb ...

    Hello forum readers,
I am having speed problems since early December where during the day time my download speed is 4mb.  However, after 7:30pm the speed then drops very quickly to below 0.5mb.  I did a speed test just now and it is:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 268 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :5344 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 4500 Kbps
I have tried calling India technical support, all I got was "we are looking into the problem" over the weeks.  Very frustrating as it is so difficult to understand them.  They keep giving me excuses as to the causes.  Today I am told there is a problem with the exchange. I asked when can this be fixed by, the response was they are not going to fix it as the equipment is very expensive to replace.
I am so frustrate by all their so uncaring attitude that I have obtained a MAC code tonight.  Will a different provider be any different if the problem is with the exchange?
Has any forum readers experience this speed dropping problem?  I can understand if the speed drops due to higher demands in the evening, but with this slow speed it is impossible to use the internet for anything meaningful as a web page took over 40 seconds to load.
I am on the unlimited Option 3, and my exchange is Poplar, London.
Is there a BT moderator on this forum who can help me resolve this speed problem please?
    Thanks.

    Hello peeps,
An update on my slow down boardband connection...
I have reported the problem to "No Help Indian Technical Support" since 11 December, still no resolution!
I was told to wait until the end of February as work on the exchange may take place to increase capacity.  Nobody called to update me on what is happening since my last post.  Called Indian support for an update (17 March) only to be told my case was closed and problem resolved on the 28 February!
Then I asked to speak to a supervisor and the guy literally cut me off.  All I wanted to ask was why they think the problem was resolved when I am still getting the same slow down every evening.  I tried calling them again, but useless idiots who would make you answer their scripts again, but still they can't give me an update or what are they going to do about the problem.
I am at a loss in how to obtain an update from them.  I am sure many of you who have the experience of calling Indian will end up with frustrations.  They will try their best to ignore you especially with questions they have not a clue in answering.  Every time they say they will call back, but no they don't.
Why is BT technical support be handled by such non-technical idiots?  The minute they have ran of scripts to follow then you are speaking to a blank wall.
Anyone here know of a complaint number I can call or email?
    Thanks.

  • Slow internet speed/ dropping internet

I am on the Bt Ifinity 2,  last year at summer time (8/10/2014) every thing was fine 59 mb/s down 19.55 mb/s up. bettween then and the 11/11/2014 speeds fell to 13.8mb/s down 10.24mb/s up. (mediafire link for page download for internet speeds http://www.mediafire.com/download/24vs7ra8pyl09qc/bt+stats.rar )
during this time untill the 19/11/2014 the internet would just drop randomly, 3,5,6 times a day commonly (not shown on the graph for due to no internet). the internet droped and the router was not connected to the internet shown by the ui in 192.168.1.254. internet speed is lower then the what was on the speed test so would strugle to steam youtube videos.
i thought that this was a throtling thing origionaly, but i tryed off peak time 1-4 AM the connection dropped slow speeds
we called a bt enginer out for the 19/11/2014 we a router replacement and some line was changed there was no internet dropping untill reasontly speeds increased slightly.
8/1/2015 I was downloading addons for battlefeild on my playstaion when the internet started dropping again the internet speed on speedtest.net showed a resonable speed of 30mb/s down 1.97mb/s up which should be fine for content consumption. well thats what i thought, youtube videos in 240p would not play.
in my oppinion it looks like bt has being throtiling my traffic, but i know bt only "manages p2p taffic during peak times"
any one know whats wrong, by the way there is know other users on the network at the time of the speed tests
    Thanks for reading

Next time your speeds are bad, or right now if they are now, please try this:
In order to rule out the Homehub as potentially being the device responsible for your speed loss, you can connect the Openreach modem directly to the PC and see if the speed improves.
To do that follow these steps:
Step 1: Remove the homehub from the modem cable
Step2: Connect your pc/laptop to the modem via the cable instead
Step3: Open network and sharing centre on windows and click set up a new connection or network
Step4: Connect to the internet then click make a new connection Broadband PPPoE
Step5: Username [email protected] and the password as BT
Step6: connect, If it doesn't,keep pressing try again until it does.
However, please note that this will stop any other access apart from the PC

  • BT Infinity speed dropped from 77mb to 64mb

Hi there I recently got BT Infinity 2. Which was brilliant for the first two weeks with a constant 77mb IP Profile. But sometime last week (possibly related to the wind and snow?) • Internet speed dropped to dial-up speed!

*(It took me about 15mins to get to this page)*
There seems to be something wrong with my Mac when i opened it up today; the internet speed has dropped right down to below dial up speed, yet all the other computers in the house are running fine at broadband speed.
    Hope you can help!
    Thankyou very much in advance!

The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.
If not, MacFixit have published a very detailed (very!) article on speeding up a slow Safari, here:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070416000657464
Many, including me, have also followed the advice given by others here to add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.220
    208.67.220.222
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.

  • WRT330N slow cable internet, speed drops significantly

I have been using a new WRT330N gaming router with firmware 1.00.4 and one day the connection speed drops to 10kb/s download speeds from every connected device(xbox360, vista, xp). I turned off the WRT330N router and connected my old WRT54G speedbooster router and my connection is back to 800kb/s. I did a factory restore to the 330N but after about 40 minutes the speed drops to 10kb/s again... I can't seem to figure out what is causing this to happen when my other router works just fine.

If possible try upgrading the firmware of the router keep on holding tightly the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Also, you need to do the advanced wireless settings such as Radio Band Frequency to 50,Frag thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • DSL Speed dropped from 3 Mbps to 1.5 Mbps

After having a reliable 3 Mbps DSL connection for 2 years my connection is now maxing out at 1.5 Mbps. Actual download speeds were always at 2.9 Mbps and uploads were above 600 Kbps. My family recently discontinued our Verizon land line telephone service and went with Verizon's wireless home phone service instead. We kept the internet plan we had, but for some reason right after we got rid of the land line the internet speed was cut in half. Verizon's customer service hasn't been able to solve the problem after two attempts. I am curious about what I should do to solve this problem. Does anybody have any suggestions? Also, does anybody know how to contact local customer service agents in the U.S.? Thanks.

It could mean a few things. Typically when people are sayign they were moved, it means they were moved to another DSLAM or another edge router or circuit in the CO to alleviate congestion.

  • Internet speed drop to 100mbps from 1gbps

my internet was Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)

The speed is dependent on the slowest

  • Broadband speed dropped from 10Mb to 250K overnigh...

My broadband speeds have dropped massively overnight and I was wondering if any of the experts on here can give me some guidance on what to try or to do next?
I've been on BT Total Broadband for ages and it was running typically at about 10Mbps according to occasional checks on Speedtest.net since early May when my line was upgraded - previous had been at about 6Mb. However, today I noticed my internet access was sluggish, I tried Speedtest.net again and was shocked to find I was being quoted a download speed of 0.24Mb (upload strangely was higher at 0.38). I then tried Speedtester.bt.com and it says my IP profile is 250Kbps with an actual speed of 159Kbps, so this makes it sound like I'm being throttled down, yet I haven't even come close to any limits. Also it's a bit strange to have it happen so suddenly - everything was working fine last night and the router has been on 24/7 (although I did reset it this morning thinking that maybe this would solve the speed issue - no such luck!)
I'll post the stats from the Speedtest and from my router below (I use a Belkin, not the Homehub in case that makes a difference), but would appreciate some ideas about what might have happened and anything I can do.

Hi there I'm also having the same problem unfortunately.  A coupe of days ago I was transferring a file from my laptop to my desktop via wireless and it caused my home hub 2 to hang.  I had to reboot it a couple of times to get it working again but once it was back up again I found browsing to be really slow.  I went on speedtest.net and discovered that I was getting 250k down and about 300k up.  I power cycled the home hub a few times and checked all of my microfilters and connections (just to be on the safe side) but it was still slow.  I went on the btspeedtest site and it is showing that my ip profile is 250k even though I am connected at 4,500k.  I called the bt helpdesk this evening and was told that there looks like there was a problem but that they are showing my ip profile as being 3000k now and that I should check in a few hours on the bt speedtest site again.  Well I did and it's still showing as 250k.  The details from my hub and the speedtest site are below.  Any thoughts and help would be very greatly appreciated.

  • Internet Speeds drop drastically on all devices when one device is streaming media

As described in the title, when one of the devices on my home network begins streaming media, speeds are drastically reduced across all of the devices.
Comcast has always stated that you can do whatever you want on any device without it affecting the other devices in your home.... but streaming on one device brings all the other devices in my home to a crawl.
This was always the one thing that set Comcast apart from AT&T in my opinion, and if this is no longer the case, then Comcast can say goodbye to my subscription.
I am paying the extra $10/mo for Blast internet also.... and this is completely unacceptable.

exactly the same experience here, installed the xfinity app on an ipad, and when someone is streaming to said IPAD from the xfinity app, the other wireless connections in the house become practically unusable.  Even wired connections to the modem/router itself start lagging out. Even something simple as looking at a forum and making a post is almost impossible if someone is streaming a t.v. show. Clearly not what is advertised. Really dissappointed.
