It is true that the mediasource/ media server software does not handle internet streaming, however, you can use winamp with the streamripper plugin and record li've streaming from the internet in your hard dri've, then put the file being recorded by winamp into your media server "now playing" list and you'll be able to listen to li've streaming (the file will be written and read simultaneously).
Just give the ripper about a minute head start before starting the playback so the streaming won't have "hickups"
It really sucks to have to do this, but it works

Internet Streams in Playlists do not show up on Apple TV

I use the following setup:
- Apple TV MD199LL/A (Software 6.0.1) just updated to the latest
- iTunes 11.1.3 for Windows (from a Windows 7 x64)
- iTunes 11.1.3 for MAC (from a Apple MacBook Pro x64, Maverix)
Homesharing is turned on both computers
From both machines I share pictures, videos and music.
All photos, videos and music files are getting displayed on the Apple TV menu, and can be played.
All iTunes playlists from both machines are getting displazed on the Apple TV
BUT!
If a internet stream is added to a playlist, this entry does not show on the Apple TV menu.
If the playlist contains only internet streams the Apple TV menu says "There are no songs in this library"
If I hit the play key on my remote, it will randomly play the first stream in the playlist (not realy reproducable pattern)
I can play those streams in iTunes and send it via AirPlay without problems,
Can anyone help me with this and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

You can only view that rental on the iPad. For it to show up it has to be rented directly on ATV or through a computer and streamed via home sharing

How can I stop iTunes from duplicating and auto playing my Internet streams whenever I add new media to the library?

I have been a mac user for a good few years now and use iTunes regularly.
Since the recent updates to iTunes I have been experiencing an issue that is becoming extremely frustrating and annoying!
Whenever I add a new item to my library, iTunes starts to play the Internet streams that I have opened over the years and duplicates them in the library in a playlist called "Internet songs". While the library is updated I cannot stop the playback. I have a very large library and it takes some time for all of the organising etc to finish.
This was never an issue with previous versions of iTunes.
Has anyone else had this problem? I have searched but can't find any mention on the Internet.
I really don't want to listen to these tracks anymore!!!
Deleting from the library does not stop this issue from occurring either.

ITunes and surround sound internet streams

Hi all,
I'm looking to broadcast internet streams in surround sound and I want to select an audio codec which iTunes will play.
Does anyone know which surround audio codecs are supported for internet streaming?

I had suspected that this was the case. I've been exprimenting with iTunes and haven't even been able to receive a stereo AAC stream. AAC and AAC+ only seem to be supported for files and not internet streams.
If anyone disagrees, please feel free to correct me.
Does anyone know if there are plans to support AAC and AAC+ in internet streams? ..and in particular for surround sound broadcasts?

BEST SETTINGS FOR INTERNET STREAMING?

I have been trying for days to make a video of a very specific size (580x326) work with internet streaming. Im exporting with quicktime, however i cant seem to post under quicktime, so im posting here as i have final cut pro as well.
Please tell me the best setting to export a video for internet streaming (preferably through quicktime 7).
which settings, framerate, kbits/sec stuff like that.

You do understand that "personal opinion" about compression settings massively depend on the type of footage you are dealing with, delivery target, length, desired output file size, client standard and demand and so on.
However, sounds like you want to get a suggestion to get started... start from here:
frame rate:current
bit rate: 1650k/bits
frame size: 720x405 (yes, a bit bigger and better)
audio: ACC 44.100
target bit rate: 128 kbps
Prepare for Internet Streaming: Fast Start
Set an IN and OUT point to select a portion of you project (this works in both FCP and Compressor) and compress that portion to check out result. Remember:
the higher the video bit rate the better the video should look but the bigger the file size gets.
Ultimately trust your eyes and ears.

How can I export 1080i in best possible quality for internet streaming?

Sorry, I'm not too knowledgeable about this but I have Final Cut 6.0.4 and use/captured in HD-1080i. What's the best possible way to export this in great quality for internet streaming? What dimensions should I use? Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

ok i used h.264 main profile with 10 mbps and i am using multipass and size is 1280x720. i tried 24 and 30 key frames. quality is still lower
iv been experimenting on a 1.5 minute video to save time. I imported the project from imovie into fcpx and changed nothing. looking at the file that was created by imovie for the same video it is 1280x720 and uses codecs h.264 and aac the file size is 115 mb the extension is .mov and the color profile is HD (1-1-1) and total bitrate is 10,512 kbps. and the quality is the minimum acceptable for me.
The file i created using your settings above in compressor 4 is 118 mb and of lower quality. codecs used are h.264, aac, and Hint (not sure what hint is but noticed it isn't used with the .mov file) color prile is the same as above. total bitrate is 10,405 kbps.
Im not arguing that compressor 4 should be able to surpass imovie but so far i have only been able to do it by making the file size rediculous (>50 gb for 30 minutes). I created a movie that was recorded with the same camera (25 mbps) 1080p 1920x1080. imovie made this 40 minute video just under 3 gb and with the same quality as the movie i am experimenting with.
There is a differnce between theory and practice. SO FAR THE RESULTS I AM SEEING IS THAT IMOVIE IS SUPERIOR IN QUALITY TO SIZE RATIO. imovie has very few options but the hd setting has surpassed what i have been able to do with fcpx.
i am willing to try any settings that anyone sugests.
personally i think i will try to export the movie at max quality then take the super large file to my windows laptop and convert to avi. as in the past i have had much success with that format using divx. i realize that that is not the best method but i don't really want to spend hours re editing this video with imovie since the source footage is about 10 hours.

Recording Internet Stream In Logic?

Hi, i am looking to record an internet stream in logic, is this possible? I have searched high and low to find out how it is done but i can't find anything.
All i want to do is record 'what you hear thru the speakers' when the audio stream is playing.
How would i go about doing this?

Elastic: Audio Hijack works bit differently, actually, easier: You don't record an URL for a radio station, you record instead the "output" of the application that streams it. In other words:
If you go into iTunes, you can see on the left "Radio Stations" if you double click on one of them, you will hear that radio station playing, right? Audio Hijack records THAT, i.e. iTunes. You just have to select "iTunes" to be recorded. This is how you do it: There are four buttons on Audio Hijack Pro's (AHP) window: Input, Recording, Tags, Effects. Click on "Input" tab. Select "Application" where it says "Source Type". On the right there's a "Select..." button. Click it and navigate to iTunes. That's it. Now have iTunes play a radio station. Click on the top-left "Hijack" button. The meters should move. That means that audio is getting through AHP. If you click on the "Record" button, whatever you hear will be recorded. Where? Click on one of the four buttons mentioned earlier, on the "recording" button, which is next to "Input" on AHP's main window. Once you have clicked on "recording" it says "Save recording to...". Choose where you want you recording to go.
Next question: save stream as what? Under the same "recording" window (i.e. after you have clicked the "recording" button next to the "input" button), you will see "Format", with a drop down menu. Select the format you want and the quality desired. You're done.
And, in the same way you have chosen iTunes to be recorded, you can choose other applications. One to have also is your browser itself. This will enable you to record whatever sound comes out when you surf. Say, sound from YouTube. I often go to the website of a great DJ I like and when I click on one of his mixes, it will play through, of course, my browser. So that's what I will record with AHP. Basically, wherever the sound comes from, this is what AHP will record, but you'll have to select it, like I told you about iTunes.

Lamj's answer is the only practical reply. Wifi is greatly affected by its surroundings. Try moving it as much as you can, up on a table, on the floor etc. can you get a cable to extend the distance you can movemthe hub?
Is the hub using 2.4 g or 5.0 gig band? I understand that 2.4 is a little slower, but goes through obstructions better than the 5 gig band.
You can also get a repeater, which amounts to a range extended by putting a second router into the system. But play with your location ofmthe hub first.
There is nothing you can do with the pad.

How would I know if a QuickTime movie is prepared for Internet Streaming?
That info doesn't appear in Movie Inspector window, neither in Movie Properties.
Also, I can't read any atom in Dumpster that can shows me that optimization.

True "streaming" media (served by streaming server software) contains "hint tracks" that appear in the Movie Properties window.
99% of QuickTime media doesn't stream. It downloads just like any other page element.
The file can be set to "Fast Start" (progressive download) which allows the file to begin playback even though the entire file has completed the download. No extra data in the Movie Inspector window for these types of files.
To restore the fast start properties in a file that has lost it simply "Save As" (self contained). This places the needed info in the movie header (beginning of the file).

Export mpeg-2 movie for Internet streaming

I have QuickTime Pro 7 with the mpeg-2 playback component. My source files are in a DVD movie. I am able to play the DVD fine in Windows Media player and Real Media Player, but Quicktime is able to play only the video and there is no audio output. My objective is to convert the DVD mpeg-2 muxed videos to quicktime .mov files that are prepared for progressive playback (web streaming: fast start).
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can't open .M3u or other internet streams

I'm having a problem in which iTunes will not open any m3u files or streamable mp3s from the internet. iTunes simply ignores them, they won't even appear in my library. Older stream files will still play but I can't add any new ones.
help?

Acquire/manipulate audio data from internet stream

I want to acquire the audio data from an audio stream (i.e. pandora, youtube, etc.) from the internet. If I can get this data and be able to play it/graph it/etc in Labview, I will be pleased. However, I'm not sure if this is even possible not knowing the details behind how packets are built and transmitted over the internet.
The closest I've come is using the acquire_sound.vi and taking the data from the sound card; albeit, it's very noisy.
For fun though, I'd like to do something directly from the audio stream itself (perhaps building a dll?) to gain a better understanding and experience.
Any advice is greatly appreciated!

As far as I am aware there is a specific data time for audio streaming online, and it's something specific you would likely need to know on a low level to communicate/copy to. Although it wouldn't be real-time, you can run a Windows audio recording program like TotalRecorder which should save and convert the audio output to .wav. Then run a LabVIEW vi to read the wave file, which you could graph. Audio out - audio in via personality card to capture internet streaming ?

I'm trying to capture internet radio programming using my beige G3 with the A/V personality card.
Can I just loop the audio out (via miniplug and/or RCA plugs) to the audio in (via miniplug and/or RCA plugs) to capture/record internet radio ?
The sound comes out of the audio board just fine to my speakers, and the audio in works just fine with an external radio.
Is there any danger (like frying computer) is just trying it ?
I'm using OS 9.1 and Toast 5 Titanium.

There's no need to even go that far with getting copies of your streams.
If you go to http://www.panic.com/audion/ and DL the Audion 3 for OS9 (don't forget to get the serial #, it unlocks it entirely), it's now free. (YAY!!)
Unlike iTunes, it has a recording function, that can make .aiff's or .mp3's, then you get an editor to clip the tracks apart into the separate songs. Works like a charm.
Also, the station tracker is still compatible with Shoutcast and set to maximum you can get a 1,000 streams - waay more than the presets in iTunes. Give it a lot of memory if you're going to take the BIG gulp on the stations though.. can run a bit flonky at times if you don't.

Recording internet streams using Vi

I need some help. I have been trying to set up my new laptop ( Vista Business OS ) to record internet audio streams directly into my D.A. program internally,? without having to run cables in and out. I know it can be done as I've seen it on XP versions. Perhaps I need a better sound card? Any assistance or advice would be much appreciated.

I don't think it's about Gates or some Microsoft conspiracy,? it's just an issue with Vista because it works ok with XP. As I had said,? it just might be the quality of my sound card.
Speaking of sound cards,? can anyone advise me on a good quality card that works well with Vista?With all of that said,? even after all of these years Apple is STILL a far superior platform form music and video. For me,? the PC is nothing more than a necessary inconvenience and an irritant when it takes such drama to get it to do what a Mac does instincti'vely and with no effort.
With my Mac( s ),? I spend all of my time and energy creating. With the PC,? I spend all of my time trying to get it to work right. What a waste of time. Don't get me wrong,? PC's do some great things,? but they really suck when it comes to music and/or video production.
