Every time I try to update my iPod it takes hours to download and then fails to complete due to am internet timeout error. I have run the diagnostics section in iTunes and my Internet connection is fine. Anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions?

Yes, Kapersky can prevent a download. You can also try a direct download and install using these instructions.

Click here and follow the instructions. You may need to completely remove and reinstall iTunes and all related components, or run the process multiple times; this won't normally affect its library, but that should be backed up anyway.

  • Error message when updating 30GB ipod

I keep getting this error message telling me my ipod was unable to update, whenever I attempt to update my ipod, then it crashes and I'm forced to restore. Why might this be, and is there some sort of 'soft restore patch' that might be available from Apple so I don't have to keep on erasing my music?

  • When updating my ipod touch, it crashed.

When I tried to update my iPod touch today, it crashed in the middle of it somewhere (there is a backup file of at least part of it).  It told me I would need to Restore.  Restore failed ... so I went to support and followed all the instructions.  Updated computer software (twice), disconnected all USB, restarted computer and iPod more than once, tried a different USB port ....
My computer (iTunes) does not recognize that my iPod is plugged in.  My iPod has only one screen ... picture to plug into iTunes.
Not concerned about losing any data at this point ... just want my iPod back.
    What can I do?

If you have tried all of the steps mentioned in support pages then there is nothing you can do except send it back to apple, why they wont acknowledge this as a now very common error I dont know but it is, I got my first Ipod on Sunday just gone plugged it in bang same error you have and none of the advice helps, it just wastes your time...Get on to apple and send it back for repair

  • Weird message when updating my ipod.

I'm getting the following message when I try to update my ipod.
"The ipod "xxxxxxx" cannot be updated. The required file cannot be found.
I did uninstalled and reinstalled itunes. I installed the ipod updater. I restored my ipod and I'm still getting the same message.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

    well done sp1nnaker!
(toonz taught me that trick. yay toonz!)
the photo cache is created automatically. usually it's no problem at all, except on the rare occasions when it gets damaged. then you can get this error, or occasionally this one:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod
so unless you run into a corruption issue again, you shouldn't be caused much grief by it.

  • Internet timeout when downloading updates

For several months, I've had occasional trouble downloading updates for my Tiger 10.4 system. I would sometimes have the download stop in mid-process, giving the message of "A networking error has occurred: timed out (-1001). Make sure you can connect to the internet."
After my system crashed recently, causing me to re-install 10.4 from the disk, I have not been able to download ANY updates, regardless of size. The downloading process will go anywhere from a few minutes to 20 minutes and then give me a timeout error. All the while, I can use email and surf the internet with no problems, so my connection is obviously good. Apple told me it was an ISP problem. I then called Qwest DSL; after checking my connection remotely, they concluded that it was a computer problem. What gives?

    Hi Trailcat,
Giving us a detailed description of your network setup would help to understand and isolate your networking issue...
How does your MacMini connect to the Net? via modem/router (make/model)?
How big is your network? just the macmini + modem/router?
Do you run any firewall other than MacOS X's built-in?

If the only problem is downloading via Apple's Software Update, then you might be experiencing issues with specific servers (just like some other users):

  • Network/internet problems when updating to iTunes 10.1.2

I have never ran into this problem and cannot seem to fix it. I am currently using iTunes 10.1.1 with no problems. Just recently, I tried to update to iTunes 10.1.2, and the install went fine, but for some reason it will not let me use the internet after I upgrade. About 3/4 of the way through upgrading to 10.1.2, my internet stops working. Other computers in the house work just fine. This has been a problem every time I try to install/upgrade to 10.1.2. I do not know what is wrong. I have tried to connect to the internet both wireless, and wired when after installing it, but both connections do not work. I have also tried reinstalling drivers after I install iTunes and it still does not work. I don't know what it could be and it is very frustrating. I don't really know what else to try and can't find anyone else that has this problem. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hi, I am also having this problem with iTunes 10.1.2.17 on a Windows 7 x64 system. After checking lots of other possible causes and reinstalling Windows twice just to make sure, the culprit appears to be AppleMobileDeviceService.exe. It seems to be creating a massive number of TCP connections to the local device on port 27015 (try using SysInternals TCPView to list the connections). This happens continuously while the service is running, and leaves Windows with no free ports to allocate to other applications (like your web browser or iTunes itself), so they are unable to create connections. You can stop the service by running "services.msc" from the Start Menu, selecting "Apple Mobile Device" from the list, right clicking and selecting "Stop". You can also set the startup mode of the service from "Automatic" to "Manual" in the same place, which will prevent it from running unless you explicitly start it. I am going to try downgrading to an older version of iTunes 10 because it's only in the last few days I've started seeing this problem.

  • Serious Windows Crash when updating 5G iPod

About halfway through updating the videos on my 5th gen iPod, windows displays a blue screen saying: "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your system". Then my computer turns off. When I plug my iPod in again, there is a lot less space available then when i plugged it in the first time, so clearly the videos ARE being copied. However, I cannot access them from my iPod. Also, the space getting used up is catergorized as 'other', rather than 'videos' in the iPod bar at the bottom of iTunes. Has anyone else experienced this problem, and is there any way to fix it??

    hi Ellent!
hmmm. if you're getting that error message under those circumstances, let's try getting a crash log to the Discussions Hosts, so they can throw it over the fence to the Apple engineers, so they can have a look at it.
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
    drwtsn32 -i
    And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
plug the ipod in, collect the crash log, and send it to a discussions host
    in the email:
    (1) let them know the precise version number of itunes that you're using. (go into your "Help > About iTunes" to doublecheck.)
    (2) let them know the precise version of the ipod updater you're using.
    (3) include the URL to this thread so that whoever gets the email has some context, but also explicitly mention that you're getting this when you plug in the ipod.

  • ITunes is crashing my iMac when updating my iPod

The last two days anytime I sync my iPod (60 gig video) with my iTunes on my G5 iMac near the end of the syncing cycle the computer will simply stop and the screen will dim and a screen saying that I need to restart my computer by holding down the power button will come up.
When I restart my computer I get a dialogue box saying that the computer had a problem asking if I should send a report to Apple, which I have. However that's not solving my problem, which is that my iMac no longer loves my iPod.
Updating my 60 gig iPod Photo however does work without a hitch. So it is only
Everything on the system is up to date software wise, newest iTunes, newest iPod software, newest version of Tiger. What could be happening and what could I do?

  • When updating my ipod...HELP!!!!!

I have many songs on my iTunes but they're taking up space on my computer, if i delete them, will those songs also delete from my ipod when i update it? Am i stuck with all those songs on my computer?

You can delete them if you first set your iPod up for manual updating. However remember that if you delete them from your computer and subsequently you have problems with your iPod you will not have a backup. See this tutorial in managing your music manually: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/tutorial/ipgettingstartedt3.html
