Internet troubles

Got a new MBP, 15inch, late 2008 and am having trouble getting on internet.
My wife's Powerbook gets on there fine as well as our iPod Touch 2nd gen but this Macbook Pro is having issues.
It'll recognize my wireless network and then it won't, I'll put in the password and it'll reject it (even though I KNOW it's correct), network timeout, etc?
I've tried restarting the Airport Extreme but nothing helps. Again, this only happens with my new Macbook Pro, late '08, unibody.
I'm wondering if, when I did the MIgration Assistant, of settings/files from Powerbook to this, if there's something there that's providing confusion here.
Thanks

The orange light on the front is for Wireless Protected Setup. Can't be used on the FiOS routers at the moment due to a lack of software support the last I've heard. It honestly does sound like the router was bricked either from a defect or a failed firmware upgrade, though to be sure, hold down the reset button on the back for 30 seconds, power off the router for 30 seconds holding the button down still, and then power it up holding down the reset button for 30 seconds. Then let go. See if the router will boot.

  • Frustrating Internet Troubles

    Hi,
For the past few weeks I have been having the most annoying trouble with my connection to the internet from my MacBook Pro. I live in a dorm where we connect to the internet via LAN. Last quarter there were no problems connecting, and my internet was blazing fast. However, recently my connection is either extremely sluggish or non-existent. Although, at times I will open my browser and it will load a few pages with speed and then it will stop, saying it has lost or cannot connect to the server. My roommate is having no trouble on his PC and others that I know with Macs are having no trouble either. Also, I have the same troubles with other networks unconnected to the school, like a Starbucks. My network settings say that I have connection, and yet there is none. Can anyone help?!

From your post you're saying that a wired connection in your dorm and a wireless connection at Starbucks exhibit the same problem?
I'd start by making sure that (or at least trying to have) your Network configuration for both Ethernet & Airport is set to use DHCP - which allows your network setup to adjust itself to the correct connection settings.
If you have static (manual) settings they might be conflicting with the sub-networks that you're joining.

  • Internet trouble using Macbook and Airport extreme

I have a new Macbook and an older airport extreme base station. I'm trying to access the internet with a dial-up connection, however, after the base station dials the number it gets hung up on "connecting to your ISP" and I can't surf the net. I've contacted my ISP and they said that the connection is fine. I've tried everything that I can think of......please help...
    Jesse

I set it up using the cd that came with it and 90% of the time it is unable to make connections to the internet.
Unless something has changed recently, I'm not aware that Linksys provides a CD setup for Macs. However, you can access the Linksys's setup via a web browser, like Safari.
My question is can I just buy a airport extreme base station and hook it up to her dsl and use it as a stand alone?
You certainly could and it would work just fine.
Does it need any other equipment other that the base station and a wireless macbook?
You will just need an Ethernet cable to connect the AEBS to the DSL modem.

  • Wireless Internet Trouble - Vista Ultimate on intel iMac w/Bootcamp

I successfully installed Vista Ultimate onto my new iMac using bootcamp. However, when I boot into Vista, I cannot connect to the internet using the built in wireless card.
When I go to device manager, Vista recognizes that I have a Broadcom wireless adapter, but it gives an error saying that it cannot work. The info that it gives me is below.
    *Device: Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter*
    *Driver: Provider: Microsoft*
    *Driver: 4.82.28.56*
*Deviced Status: This device cannot start (code 10)*
I tried installing the broadcom drive from my leopard DVD and it crashed Vista. I deleted the current driver (which doesn't work) and reinstalled a driver that I downloaded and it didn't work. I just downloaded and installed Bootcamp update to 2.1 and still I get the same device status.
Can anyone help! I can't even get to the point where other people are having problems because their wifi is super slow. At least that would be progress for me!

I have Vista home premium 32 bit, on the iMac and my I downloaded Broadcom driver version 4.170.25.12. Going through a slightly odd Broadcom website I found and downloaded it. The speed I get is perfect but in the course of a day it will disconnect from the router frequently for maybe 5-10 mins. Still not good enough so at the moment I am stuck with a ethernet cable across the room. What driver version are you using?

  • Internet Trouble W. Service Provider ( I.O.)

So i have IO Digital Cable As My Internet & Cable provider. The internet was installed into my home pc desktop but i frequently used to switch the Ethernet Jack and plug it into my Mac Book Pro to use internet on my laptop. Now as of late i've not been able to connect w/ the Ethernet cable to the internet on my laptop. (but it works fine on the desktop). I called I.O. Cust Care for online support and someone gave me generic advice but obviously had no clue what I really needed and that was INTERNET CONNECTION ON MY MACBOOK PRO. We tried rebooting/reseting/pluging/unpluging/giving it 10mins/ network diagnostics/ and nothing seemed to work.
I have a feeling it is something very simple please help!!!

Many less major brands of Cable modems commit their equipment to connect to the first device that connects (by Hardware Address, aka M.A.C. address).
When you later try another computer or a Router, you cannot connect, because the device you are trying to attach has a different M.A.C. address. If they (or occasionally you) can do a deep reset to their equipment, it will accept a new M.A.C. address \[at which point it will work with your MacBook, but not with your PC].
The solution many users have adopted is to buy a Router, and then you can connect both computers at once or in any order. You can also ask your ISP to provide a Router, but they generally charge much more on a monthly basis, so most users just buy their own, then tell the ISP they got a "new computer" \[which is true, the Router is a new computer], and connect the Router as the new device with a new M.A.C. Address.
If you think you may want wireless sometime, many wireless Routers include 4 Ethernet ports as well, so you can have both in any combination and move back and forth at will.
There are a few mashups you can get into if they have told you to connect by any means other than "using DHCP". Often, these smaller ISPs will change their IP addresses, and if you do not track it correctly, you lose. If they have given you a Username and password, that may indicate use of PPPoE, which requires a special set-up.

  • Wireless internet trouble

After getting our new iBook, we decided to get a wireless router for wireless internet. First, we got a D-Link DI-624, which constantly disconnected and reconnected by itself and which we soon stopped using. We tried it with multiple firmwares, and we tried many, many times to get some help from both the D-Link and AT&T DSL customer supports, but got nothing. Then, we got a Netgear WGT624, which is better overall because of its range and its mostly better reliability. However, we still keep having (quite enraging) problems. For many minutes at a time, we will have NO wireless signal from it, and I know that it isn't the Airport Card or the signal range, because it picks up other signals and is within a yard of the router. This can get very annoying and is sometimes even disruptive to work. Please help -- we've gone through every setting, gone through hundreds of dollars of investments, and it isn't working. How can I solve this problem?

This sounds a lot like interference from some other source (another wireless router, a cordless phone, etc.)
You might want to try a third party application like iStumbler to see if the device appears completely off the air whenever you lose signal. For example, if you can normally see your router as well as one or two others, and your router suddenly goes away but you can still see the other two, that's indicative that it may be interference preventing you from seeing your router. If all the routers go away, that implies an issue with your machine or AirPort card, or really strong interference from another source.

  • Mobile Internet Trouble

I keep getting an error message when I try using the mobile internet. The message is HTTP Error 400: Bad Request. What is causing this problem?

        Hi natedawg13,
I apologize for the delayed reply and I am confident that your issue has been resolved since the original date of your post! If not, I can happily assist you. Which device do you have? Where are you located (zip code)? When did the problem begin? I look forward to hearing from you soon.^AB

  • Internet troubles, IP address self assigned

    Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with my internet connection anytime I put the powerbook to sleep or turn off and on the airport. It constantly loses the IP address and assigns itself an internal one. It takes it several minutes before I can start surfing, even though it IS connected to the network. It's fine right up until the next time I wake it from sleep.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks Folks
    J.
    Powerbook G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Test your iPad on some other networks, e.g., Borders, Starbucks, a friend's network, etc. If it doesn't work there it may have a hardware problem. However, if it works OK there, then there may be a problem in your network (regardless of whether other devices seem to work).

  • IBook Indigo with Internet Troubles

Trying to rehab my old Indigo clamshell for my kids to use and would like to have internet access. I configured the internet for our current service provider. I was using WEP encryption for the wireless router, but it kept rejecting my attempts to connect saying the 'password was incorrect'. When I disable the security and allow free access then I can connect to the router. However, even with being connected to the router and having the internet configuration set up it's not letting me connect to the internet. Suggestions appreciated!
    Thanks!

Not sure I have a complete answer for you, but maybe some insights.
Recently I tried connecting to the internet with a Bondi Blue Rev. B iMac running OS 9.2.2. I could not, and posted a question on another forum and someone suggested that the IE5 browser was no longer supported and could no longer access the internet.
If you want to stick with OS 9, you should probably update the software to the latest version:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75186
You should be able to download the update on a working computer, copy it to a USB flash drive, then copy it to the desktop of the Indigo, and install it.
No idea what browser might work with OS 9--you would probably need to post a question on the appropriate software forum:
    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=161
If there is a browser that would work, this would be the place to find it.
What I ultimately did with the Bondi was to install Panther and update it to 10.3.9. Because of a non-working ethernet port, I purchased a Newertech USB airport card from OWC and used that to connect to the internet. That did work, although the internet access I gained was still limited because of the older technology. GMail and Yahoo mail do not work--only AOL. Some sites do not load. YouTune and Google Earth don't work at all.
Don't know how anything would work on the Indigo. I believe that the Indigo might be able to run OS X v. 10.4.11, and if so, that would be a better OS than Tiger. You may need to install a Firmware update before installing Tiger:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75128
You may even need to do this before updating OS 9, since it says you should do it from OS 9.1.
Anyway, maybe some food for thought.
    Good luck!

  • Non-Admin Account Internet Trouble

I just updated to Yosemite from one of my non-admin account on my computer after the update some websites (only on this non-admin user, i have other not having this problem) like google, iCloud, etc (trusted ones). I didn't know what it was so i tried and made the user and administrator and the problem disappeared and the websites loaded again. So i supposed it was on the parental control so i de-admin the user again and turned the parental controls off to see if that was the problem but the pages didn't not load. Is there any other setting that not being and admin adds? Were could i fix it our how? Please help

I just followed the procedure described here for the same problem under OSX 10.8.2. No luck. Yosemite account with parental control cannot access SSL sites even when web sites are not set to be filtered. There is no warning about the site being blocked. The SSL site simply times out. The particulars are in the article, but here is a summary of the steps:
Create a new account, if not too much trouble, and start from scratch.
Try removing the parental control content filter settings manually by deleting com.apple.familycontrols.contentfilter.plist.
Try remove all parental control settings by deleting the entire parental settings folder.
Try giving the account admin privileges and then remove them again and restore parental controls.
I have tried all of these things under Yosemite, but as soon as the account goes back to being under parental controls, the problem immediately returns.

  • Unusual Internet troubles

After installing Snow Leopard, I find that I have to restart my computer (many times in one evening) because my internet stops working. This goes for Safari, Firefox, and email. It just stops. I've not found any answers to this particular question and would like some help.
    Thanks!

I forgot to mention that my iPad has no issues connecting to the same internet, even with the iMac isn't connecting.

  • Strange internet troubles

A few weeks ago I installed a new motherboard and processor in my computer. Long story short I ended up reinstalling Windows XP. At first my internet wouldn't work at all until I installed the drivers that came with my MB. Realtek Gbe & FE ethernet PCI-E NIC driver. After that, it worked fine, in fact it seemed faster than it ever had been. However, every once in a while, perhaps once a week or so, the internet will slow to an unbearable crawl, usually timing out on sites or taking several minutes and only loading the site partially. The only solution I've found to this is to go to the basic wireless setup on my router (WRT54G) and change the "wireless network mode" setting. It doesn't matter what I change it to or from, but as soon as I do it works fine again.
This is becoming a severe irritation as it can take a very very long time to get into the basic wireless setup when the internet is like that. I have no idea what's going on and any help would be very appreciated.

Did you secured your network ? It might happen that somebody is using your network...So put the security on the router setup page under wireless security.
If your network is already secured then either change the security key or choose the higher level security like WPA or WPA2.

Wireless interference! Your phone is interfering with the wireless router.  This should be fixed by either changing the the channel on the wireless router through the router's control panel or buying a cordless phone that doesn't operate at the 2.4 ghz band.

  • Macbook internet troubles - out of nowhere

i just got back home from a weekend at my dads, and my mac is now having some issues... this morning i managed to log on to the internet for about 30 minutes before it froze up on me. i closed firefox to restart it, but it wouldnt load my home page this time.. i closed my screen and walked away for 10 minutes. i came back and opened up the screen and waited for it to connect. several minutes later, my computer was STILL scanning for a network.. ive connected to the internet SEVERAL SEVERAL times from this room within the past 4 months, but now all of a sudden i cant.. i opened up the networking tab in system preferences to see if anything obvious was messed up.. i couldnt find anything, but as soon as i closed out of system preferences, my computer finally connected to my wireless modem. i immediately opened firefox and activity monitor.. my home page STILL wouldnt load and the activity monitor said firefox was only transferring 1 bit/second every 10 seconds (so really the average would be 0.1 bit/second).. i closed firefox and my computer and walked away again, and when i came back, my computer now cant even find my network at all, period. ive been waiting now for several minutes... when it actually has connected, i have a full signal. so why the **** cant i connect to the internet anymore?? im typing this discussion on my iphone.. this is ridiculous.. i cant find any help anywhere on the internet.. i just love it how this technology never has any simple problems...... any help would be amazing, ive got math homework to do on the internet, and i cant afford to drop this class on account of my crappy apple technology..
