Internet Usage Monitoring - Any good tools out the...

Hi,
Does anybody know if the NetProtect Plus product allows you to monitor all of the Internet traffic through the the BT Infinity Wireless Router. I think this has got to be done at the Router otherwise they will sneak on with the iTouch if I just limit it to PC's/Laptops
I am not so bothered about 'blocking sites' just want to analyse how long they stay on the various sites they go to. For example 4 hrs on Facebook when they said they were 'revising'.
Or does anyone know a good reasonable product that does this.

Looks good, thanks for the detail. I will look at their products closely but I am also thinking their should be something on the router as the kids can get to that via their iPhone/iTouch and you can't install anything on those devices.
I may get Net Nanny for their Laptops and just block their other devices for a period of time each day.
Trouble is the Admin tools as part of the BT Infinity Hub are not that great, I think it is a missed opportunity for BT here.

Here's another thought.
Navigate to HD > Users > Library > Safari: Make a duplicate of History.plist.
To duplicate the file, click once to highlight it. Press the Command + D keys.
Drag the History,plist copy file to the Desktop.
Highlight it. Press the Command + I keys, to get info.
Change Open With to TextEdit.
When you open the file in TextEdit, it will be difficult to read, but you will be able to pick out some sites.

Hi to all,
What is legitimate software/apps to monitor Internet Usages on Windows 7/ 8/ 8.1?
I am looking for a software for Windows 7/ 8/ 8.1 that can monitor Internet Usage.
As per my understanding, at this point of time internet usages monitor that I am looking for must include followings:
Used bandwidth
Accessed website and
Bandwidth speed
I found a variety of software. Every one has own information but no one is satisfactory.
Please recommend legitimate software of following features.
Extended and correct information of Used bandwidth, Accessed website and Bandwidth speed. No matter, either its a single software that includes all features or more than one having these features individually.
Information delivered by software must be same as the ISP.

As it was mentioned in previous answer, it all depends what you want to manage and monitor and metrics you want to see. Have being said that, Solar Winds "Orion" is a great network management system which have a list of a number of modules that you can integrate as you move forward. You do have to start with the Network Management Module (NMM) with a number of licenses or unlimited. You have the choice to purchase individual modules later such as bandwidth monitor, IPSLA, Netflow, IP Management (IPAM), Configuration Manager an so on. This can get expensive but it is a great integrated system and the annual support is reasonable. Hope this helps! Ed.

I just downloaded videotron internet usage monitor from the apple site, and i have installed it in my widgets, its asking me to enter my user name in the widgets preferences how do i do this?
Also is the user name vlxxxxxx or do i have to change this.

I 2nd the recommendation for OpenDNS. It's a great way to control internet access.
Oh, and Verizon does not offer any software for managing and restricting internet access. The routers do have parental controls, but they really only useful for turning access on and off according to a schedule. If you want to prevent access to certain classes of internet sites, the router won't do that. OpenDNS does it easily and for free.

Is there any Nokia application out there to monitor the internet usage in terms of bandiwidth ?. I need to know whether I am exceeding what I am supposed to download per month

Any Good Ideas on the Best iPhone 4S...

I have looked at so many covers, cases for the iPhone. Does anybody know of an excellent case that protects the iPhone 4S without blocking any of the ports or display? I recently saw this holster that looked cool but seemd not quite what I am looking for. I have a strong tendancy to be hard on items like the iPhone even know I try not to. I have tried the Otterbox, which did not really protect much. somebody had told me about one that I looked at at Best BUy, but I saw their website too and it loked pretty good but right now I forget the name. I would like to be about to hook it up to the Mophie Juice Pack without having to take it out of the case. any suggestions?

For the majority of the time, I go caseless. I don't like them because debris becomes trapped and requires cleaning every few days, not to mention random scratches. I would, however, invest in a screen protector. Just a basic one. Or, ZAGG Invisi-shield.
I stress this however if you follow my advice: be careful. It isn't hard.
Do you have the Mophie case already? If not, I discourage buying it. Battery life should be long enough with moderate usage. If you already do, you may want to look into a pouch for the HTC Evo, since I think it will be about that size with the case on.

BB USAGE MONITOR -any progress?

I see that lots of customers are having trouble with BT saying they are going over their usage allowance when they don't think they are. I'm having similar problems and have been investigating it since BT started charging us £15 extra for our broadband. We are moderate to heavy users so have BB option 2 with the 40GB allowance. There are just 2 of us so we agreed to be mindful of this allowance and avoid things that push it up. So when we got the extra bills we were very surprised.
1) We moved in September and until Christmas our speed was less than 1mbps some days so just browsing was difficult. Yet in November we supposedly used 72GB! In January we weren't here 2 weeks and I was ill one of them and didn't use the computer at all (just facebook on my 3G internet phone). Apparently we used 52 that month...?
2) We torrent but only 3 files per week and then shut them down once finished because it eats up the bandwidth and makes surfing hard at peak times. We also don't "seed" for this reason. Also, ISPs throttle you if you torrent too much and we need the internet for our studies.
3) We have BT vision so don't use iPlayer or the like on our PCs. Besides with our slow connection it's rubbish anyway!
4) We don't stream music i.e. napster or spotify because it just doesn't work on our slow connection.
5) We don't play MMOs or Xbox live.
6) I installed BB monitoring software and studied the Home Hub stats and they show only a fraction of what BT are saying we use.
7) If we are being hi-jacked/hacked it's not showing up on the HH.
8) Other people are having this problem which makes me suspicious.
So has anyone got anywhere with BT on this? I can't seem to speak to someone other than the Indian call centre. They refunded £9 so far but have charged me £45 for going over so far.
I've sent another complaint email and I'll hope I don't just get told that I "don't accept" their bill again.

Trying to move from xslt to jsp - any good tools?

I'm working on an app where older html is rendered through xslt and newer html is produced with jsp. i really don't care for xslt. I'm curious if there's a good tool that would allow me to use jsp files to access the information in xml. This would allow me to reuse front end code between the two sections.

Well, Java is really good at reading XML (check out DOM or SAX) and JSP uses Java ergo I'm sure you'll be able to read XML. I don't know enough about JSP to know if there are any tag libraries or something that will work but if you just want to use servlets/jsp you can definitely read XML.

Any good documentation of the Applet Persistence API ?

Does anybody have links to good documentation for the Applet Persistence API? I am talking about the new getStream and setStream methods on the AppletContext class. The official documentation I have been able to find simply sucks:

A search on this forum and on Google didn't reveal much either. It seems like an almost undocumented feature.

I'm resurrecting this old thread because I think its pretty funny that in five years this seems to have only gotten more confusing. I don't think anyone is using it (ie. google was still no help) but I'm hoping someone can shed some light.
I got the distinct impression from... something I thought I read but must have hallucinated... that this API is supposed to persist information across browser runs. Even if that's not the case, I'm curious why I can't get the stated functionality to work. I tried the only sample I could find from this page:

The sample is quite good even if it leaves out the most important information about the API, which the previous poster provided (that its not 'real' persistence). Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work with the latest release JRE. Through the debugger I'm seeing that the setStream call is happening as expected but the getStreamKeys routine always returns null. Can someone who has successfully used this enlighten me?

Any GOOD things about the WRT300N?????

I understand that these forums are good sources of information for solving problems. However, ALL I can find are problems with the WRT300N.
I just bought one and I plan on installing tomorrow to support a new wireless 11g printer I bought and to give me more headroom for gaming.
All the posts cite connections dropping, poor performance, and lack of range. Is anyone "pleased" with this router???
Should I just put it back without even trying to install and get my money back????

I've only owned the 300N for a few days, but it's been stable and an easy connection with a Windows Vista machine. I struggled with an older NetFear router with a new Vista machine and gave up after 4 days of stress and frustration and bought the 300N with the USB300 series adapter on a whim while shopping.
I've been getting 4-5 bars and according to Vista's connection information, averaging 210-250 mbps. The wireless PC is located upstairs on the second floor and the wireless router is on the first floor in my audio room. Just take note, there are not any "G" devices on the network.
I had 2 issues with the router which I will explain.
I contacted Linksys's level 1 tech support to deal with these 2 issues The security light light on the router was not lit and I asked why considering I had all security features enabled. MAC filtering, blocking SSID and encryption. The tech told me that if you use the Easy Link software the security light will not light. To activate the security light, you need to use the Linksys Wireless Network Monitor software to activate the security light. Unfortunately, Vista does not support this software, so if using Vista, according to the tech, it will never light until they have a fix, if they create one at all.
The other issue I had was not broadcasting the SSID. When I disengaged the broadcast function, I could not connect to the network. I tried various methods and I initially looked for the Wireless network monitor software, but it was/is not available with the Vista firmware. To connect to the router with the broadcast of the SSID off, she had me delete the current profile, create another manually adding the network SSID, encryption type, etc., and now I can connect to the network with not broadcasting the SSID.
Perhaps my situation is an anomaly, but I have not dropped a connection yet, speed has been 5 X my NetFear "G" connection speed and I receive 4-5 bars for signal strength. I did notice that when I changed the Network Mode to "N" band only and changed a few other settings following the manual, the signal dropped to 3 bars. I just switched back to the "Mixed" mode and default settings and the signal went back to normal.
I'm not a complete neophyte with wireless, but generally once it's secure (if there i such a thing) and connected, I never touch it again except to change the network name, router password, etc every few months. That is my experience.

Need to monitor any file change in the system, in real time

Hi,
I am running a program that I suspect may be doing changes in the filesystem, but I do not know which ones. I would like to know if there is a daemon/program that could help me monitor those changes. I tried AIDE, however, it works by creating a database of checksums for each file and does not report in real time potential changes. I would rather use a program that logs changes and timestamp them. Furthermore, AIDE is not useable with /var files, since there are many of them and they change so often. Is there another good solution?
Alternatively I would like to run the program with monitoring. For instance, run the process as:
monitor_program my_program_to_monitor logfile
This would dump in logfile what my_program_to_monitor does to the filesystem.

no, at least with inotifywait, it is not possible. once you know what file is being changed you can use "lsof" to see what process have opened that file.
i tried the following to search lsof output first thing when inotifywait finds a file change.
file=$(inotifywait -r /home/mang/watch --format %w | sed 's/.$//'); lsof | grep $file
while in another terminal running "vi /home/mang/watch/test"
the output is:
zsh 12574 mang cwd DIR 254,11 4096 4723089 /home/mang/watch
vi 16790 mang cwd DIR 254,11 4096 4723089 /home/mang/watch

It is a web-base application and basically this would be an evolving suite of test cases. For example, if this was a purchasing system. A few test cases that we would like to run would be as such.
1. Enter in a valid Purchase Order verify expected results
2. Enter in an invalid Purchase Order verify expected results
3. Enter a purchase order with one line item
4. Enter a purchase order with multiple line items
5. Query existing purchase orders
6. Edit existing purchase orders
7. Delete a purchase order
ETC.
Would WinRunner provide this functionality? Are there any OpenSource solutions as well.
