Internet via Sprint bluetooth

I will be purchasing an iBook G4 within the next few weeks and would like to also upgrade my cell phone to bluetooth. I am a Sprint customer in the USA. As far as I can tell the only bluetooth phones offered by sprint are the LG PM-325 and the Ericsson T608. The only function I want to use is to be able to connect the G4 to the internet via bluetooth with the phone. Im not worried about address book syncs or any of that. Are any of those two phones compatible. I read that the LG will not connect but the T608 will. I would like some clarification and info before I commit to a purchase. Thanks.

greyghost,
I am trying to do this same thing, but having no luck at all. I'm fairly savvy, usually, when it comes to these things. Were you able to get the internet/bluetooth connection to work WITHOUT buying a huge Data Connect plan from Cingular -- or are you also paying for this extra capability? I'm trying to do it without paying for the extra feature, because, well, it just seems like it should work...
Please let me know if there's a certain modem script, or string, or access number I need to use. I would really appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks!
I've had great experience with the ericsson T68 and
the T616. That was with AT&T (now Cingular)though.
Pairing was easy and the phone company new enough
for me to figure out the rest. It's a great
feature. If you have a phone signal, you can get to
the internet. Cingular has lousy voice plans but
great tech capabiities. What was really cool was
being in Starbucks w/o a t-mobile account an able to
get online anyway:)

  • Connecting MBP to internet via gprs/bluetooth 6630

    hello guys,
    I'm having an unusually problem
my mobile phone Nokia 6630 surfs the web well and it get connected to a PC to browse the web too just great.
when going Mac, it doesn't do any of this except Syncing in iSync good enough.
every time I try getting MBP connected to internet via gprs& blutooth via Nokia 6630 the system displays an error message which is normally PPP error
I've filled the APN with the correct provider's access point and number with *99#
my provider didn't fill me with the DNS nor PPP setting...
what shall I do to fix this?

    No.

  • IPad no longer able to get on internet via Mac Bluetooth

When traveling internationally I often stay in hotels that only offer cable conected internet service in the rooms. After upgrading to Lion on my MacPro I can still connect from my iPad to Mac via Bluetooth but it will no longer share the internet connection. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug w Lion?

I have the same problem with my MacPro. Worked great with Snow Leopard, but since Lion upgrade, no Internet. I have Sharing set up correctly and iPad and MacPro are paired. Nothing.

  • Connect a tablet to the Internet via 301's Bluetoo...

My tablet computer, which does not have 3G connectivity, cannot connect to the Internet via its Bluetooth connection to my Nokia 301.
However, my two friends' iPads can connect to the Internet via their Bluetooth connection to my Nokia 301. (My friends first disabled their iPads' own network connection to verify this.)
I have read in several sites that a mobile phone should have Wi-Fi connectivity - which the 301 does not have - to be able to function as a "mobile hotspot", enabling internet connection. But then why does the 301 allow the iPad to connect to the Internet  via the Bluetooth connection?
    Any solutions? Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Xenostring
The 301 does not support WiFi Hotspot, but it can do Bluetooth tethering, provided your Tablet can use a Bluetooth Modem to connect to the internet.
It all depends on your tablet and the the connections supported by its bluetooth.
Contacting your Tablet's support will be a better path to take.

  • How do I connect my Centro to the Internet via bluetooth over PC's Internet? Where is Centro's PPP Connection Type? How do I setup Login Script for bluetooth connection?

I am trying to set up bluetooth on the Centro to connect to the internet via my PC's internet.
    HotSync over bluetooth works successfully.
Computer specs: Toshiba P205-S6277; Bluetooth Stack v5.10.04 (currently using); Bluetooth Monitor v3.01 (to use Vista's built-in bluetooth)
I think I have narrowed my problem down to 3 things.
    (1) Finding Network Access properties (to allow connected devices to access the internet)
    (2) Finding Centro's Network Connection Type: PPP
    (3) Finding the correct Login Script to use
for (1) I think I've looked everywhere; found nothing on Network Access.
Checked control panel: only Bluetooth Local COM
Right-clicked bluetooth icon > Settings: File transfer, PAN Networking, PAN DHCP server, AV controls. Other bluetooth settings are for file transfer or object push. I don't see anything like this.
I'm stumped on (2). It seems as if palm removed this option under Centro's Advanced network settings .
Nearly all the forums that I read says to choose Connection Type: PPP.
    (3) Found 2 scripts that seemed would work. I don't know how it exactly works but it sounds workable.
    First script:
    Send: CLIENT
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait for: CLIENTSERVER
    End:
    Script 1 Connect Log:
    =======================================
    Connect Log
    S: client
    S: client
    R:
    Err: 0x121F   <<<netErrUserCancel b/c I canceled it.
    Not connected
    ========================================
I canceled it because the process would stay on "Signing In" then it automatically "Canceled" itself.
    Second script:
    Send CR:
    Delay: 1
    Send: CLIENT
    Wait For: CLIENTSERVER
    End
**UPDATE** I found on this forum (Reply # 3689) that the script is needed only if you are using Palm OS 4 or under. Centro uses Palm OS 5.49121. Can anyone support this?
Even without the script it has problems "Signing In".
I'm currently reading this site and trying out its decribed methods. I will update this thread when I get the results.
I'm using the Centro. And If anyone's been able to successfully connect to the internet on the Centro via a bluetooth connection to the PC WITHOUT 3rd party applications, please share.  If not, please share any ideas.
    Thanks!

I've been going at this for days, and have probably exhausted all the proposed solutions on the first 3 pages of various google searches. I'm getting the feeling that Vista users are pretty much SOL for the time being.
For the record, I just tried out a few of the solutions (mRouter & SoftickPPP) on XP and they work perfectly.

  • Laptop to Internet via iPhone over Bluetooth?

Has anyone experimented with getting a laptop on the Internet using an iPhone (connected to EDGE) via a Bluetooth link to the laptop?
    Thanks
    G3s, G4s, G5s & XServe   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Non iPhone owner.

I think bluetooth should be upgraded to allow to use
iPhone to connect to the Internet with any laptop
(i.e. Powerbooks or MacBooks), this is the only
feature I am really missing with the iPhone! Do you
think will be any software upgrade or third party
software allowing to do that? Thanks for sharing.
Wireless access from the iPhone is $20 a month. AT&T's unlimited access for laptops is $80 a month, and for other devices (PDAs, Blackberry, etc; the TOS forbids you to use the PDA as a wireless modem for a laptop) is $50 a month. Thus, if the iPhone COULD be used as a modem it would undercut all of the other wireless data services.
Anyway, you wouldn't really want wireless laptop access over EDGE; believe me, I've tried it. If you really need wireless access get a 3G aircard with a separate data plan. It's really worth the price to have DSL speeds over the cellular network.

  • IPhone accessing Mac Pro's shared internet via Bluetooth

I have an iPhone 4 which is running without an ATT contract (no cellular) and acting like an iPod.
I can access the Internet using the wifi arrangements on the iPhone, and this works easily.
But I would like to turn off the wifi on the iPhone and configure the iPhone to access the Internet
via the shared internet service on my Mac pro, connecting via bluetooth.
I am starting to think this is not possible, and the tethering can only go the other way, That is to
say that the iPhone can share it's cellular net access with the Mac via personal hotspot, or possibly
using bluetooth PAN or some other bluetooth connection service.
I have tried creating PAN network interfaces on the Mac Pro, and then I go to the iPhone and set
up a paired connection between the iPhone and the Mac Pro. But I just can't seem to guess the
right set of settings so that the iPhone can use the Mac Pro's internet via the PAN service.
Does PAN service only serve the iPhone's internet to an external device (like a notebook), or can
it be used in the other direction to allow the iPhone to request IP packet service from the Mac Pro?
    Thoughts?

I've been having the same problems as everyone else here. Trying to share internet connection from my ethernet wired iMac to my MacBook and my iPhone. Tried all the workarounds, but nothing works, or lasts very long.
Yesterday, I finally talked with AppleCare for over an hour. All their suggestions (trashing preferences, changing settings, etc.) failed, as well. The AppleCare person then put me on hold to speak to an engineer, who told her that Snow Leopard no longer supports Internet Sharing as of 10.6.1.
Not willing to accept that answer, I had them set up an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar for me, and after chatting with the Genius for a while, he also confirmed that Internet Sharing is no longer supported under Snow Leopard. Apparently, there were many hardware issues that the engineers decided to circumvent, and so did not include support for Internet Sharing with the internal airport in Macs. They said that the Airport it is intended to receive, not to send a signals! Yet, it worked fine, doing just that, under Tiger and Leopard! The only fix he could offer was to wipe my drive and take me back to 10.5, which I declined.
However both the guy at the Genius Bar and the lady at AppleCare inferred that Apple "may" release another update to fix this issue, if they get enough complaints and bug reports.
So, there you have it. Apple no longer officially supports Internet Sharing in Snow Leopard.

  • Connect to Internet via Bluetooth with 6121 Classi...

I have a new Nokia 6121 Classic and a Thinkpad T60 with the latest Bluetooth drivers and Windows XP SP2.
I've installed the Nokia software and it asked to get the updated software from the Internet and installed 6.86.9.0
It connected fine via Bluetooth (WIDCOM) and I'm able to Sync my contacts/transfer files without any problems. I then throught I'd connect it to the Internet. I tried the cable connection and it connected fine via 3G to my carrier Optus.
However, if I don't use the USB cable and try via Bluetooth (what I want) it starts to connect and says 'Looking for bluetooth devices'...which is really strange since it's already connected !! Windows XP beeps quickly as if something has been plugged into a USB port, but nothing has. After about 20-30 secs, Windows XP beeps (as if something has been unplugged, but nothing has. The Nokia Connection Manager then says "No modem found!"
It's so strange...it can see the Nokia phone fine via Bluetooth. I then tried to connect via "My Bluetooth Places" and XP also connected fine to the phone. It then installed another dialup connection via Bluetooth. But if I click on that icon, it connects to the phone but then asks for a userid/password which I have no idea what to enter. So I think I need to use the Nokia PC suite, but it won't connect to the Internet via the phone, unless I use the USB cable.
It's a strange one... I've searched the forums but can't see any clues for my particular case.

For anyone who's interested I solved this by:
    - Edit the Phone number for the bluetooth Modem and entering *99#
    - For the modem, setting it's Maximum speed to the highest. In my case it was 921600.
    - Go into Control Panel - Phone and Modem Options - Modems - Select Bluetooth Modem - Properties - Advanced tab and enter at+cgdcont=1,”IP”,”internet”
Dial the connection by going into My Bluetooth Places and double clicking on the icon. When prompted enter a blank userid and password. It should then connect to the Internet via your mobile !

  • Connecting LG KU990 Viewty to internet via bluetooth

My KU990 Viewty doesn't have the wireless feature of the iPod Touch or iPhone.
Using the built in browser or Opera Mini works over g3 but that's slow and expensive and should not be necessary when I am at home where I have a broadband connection.
So does anyone know how to set up the phone to share my internet connection via bluetooth, from my X-Modem, AirPort Extreme or iMac?
If you know, please explain the steps for me in a terms a dummy can follow!
    Thanks guys.

I am afraid the long and short of it is you can't share your wireless connection with your Viewty. The phone doesn't have any Wi-Fi capability. You can use bluetooth to share data with your computer but you can't internet share over bluetooth with a mobile phone. In effect it would be pointless seeing you would have to be in fairly close proximity with your computer anyway.

How do I connect iPhone to the Internet via bluetooth? (No cellular network, no wifi)
You cannot. There is no network connection available TO the iPhone over bluetooth. When tethering becomes available, you will be able to tether your laptop using the iPhone as an Internet connection, but not the other way around. The iPhone CAN use wifi for its internet feed though, but not bluetooth. Bluetooth only supports headsets today.

  • Sharing internet connection over bluetooth

i have 2 computers less than 10 metres apart, one of which is connected to the internet broadband. the solution for sharing the connection wirelessly with this particular setup is rather expensive.
i was wondering if it would be possible to share the internet connection on the computer that has it over bluetooth with the other computer.
i read an archived response suggesting that it was. can someone confirm?
    just to be clear:
i hoping to have 2 computers bluetooth connected the second of which will be able to connect to the internet via the 1st computers connection.

While it is not explicitly supported by OS X, both machines can be configured to do this. For lots of reasons, I don't think that this is a good idea. Your Bluetooth link is so slow compared to either a wireless—or even much faster terrestrial—ethernet link, that it's not worth the effort to enable this service.
Save yourself a great deal of grief and disappointment, and get ahold of a relatively inexpensive ethernet gateway [wired or wireless] and set up a small local area network. You will be far more secure, and enjoy a far better level of performance than you would see if you attempted to create a Bluetooth LAN.
That said, here is a set of instructions for enabling internet sharing using Terminal commands. It's paraphrased from…
    http://www.macgeekery.com/hacks/pppoverbluetooth
In the Bluetooth preference pane's sharing tab, make a new Serial Port Service and name it bt-ppp and make it an RS-232 device. If it's on, disable internet sharing in the Sharing prefpane. Then create the following script [shown below.]
The script starts pppd on the new Bluetooth serial device you've created, then sets up IP forwarding, NAT, and the like. The en0 can be replaced with en1 if your primary net connection is AirPort. You can change the IP listed to something appropriate for your network, as well. If you put it in the range of IPs you're already using for your home network, natd is smart enough to work as a router instead of a gateway. Run as root, but—for the love of all that is holy and just—use sudo instead of su.
This is the script you must run in terminal:
    /usr/sbin/pppd /dev/tty.bt-ppp 115200 noauth local passive proxyarp asyncmap 0 silent persist :10.1.1.25 &
    /usr/sbin/sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
    /usr/sbin/natd -same_ports -use_sockets -log -deny_incoming -interface en0
/sbin/ipfw add divert natd ip from any to any via en0
If you are unfamiliar with issuing commands from the Terminal or are not familiar with what these unix commands mean, I would suggest that you proceed very cautiously, and do more research before attempting this.

I called a vw dealership (in South Australia) today because I have an iphone5 and a Tiguan and experienced the same thing (after i had purchased the lightening/30pin adapter).
I was advised that the media interface software is not compatible with iphone5.  VW will eventually update the software according to ol'mate at the dealership, but it will be at an expense to the consumer allegedly.
I know that there is a iphone/vw media cable one can purchase from VW however, I believe this to only work with iphone4 or older?
Maybe try an older generation ipod to use for the car if all ur music is in itunes?
if anyone can correct me, I'd be more than happy to know... going to try my older generation ipad and see if there is any truth to the tale.... eventually.  Until then i'll stream via bluetooth :-)

Personal hotspot shares your cellular connection with other devices via cable, bluetooth or WiFi. If you turn on the hotspot, the phone will be disconnected from the WiFi network you are on and share access to the cellular connection. That's what it's for. It's using your data plan if that's what you're trying to do.

  • Ovi Suite silently connecting to Internet via Phon...

Since upgrading to Ovi Suite (2.2.1.23) I've found that it will silently connect to the Internet via my phone (E72) if there is any interruption to my wifi connection. I guess that it's tyring to do something "smart" and keep my connection alive, but at the expense of my mobile data plan.
I've managed to spot this as the speed drops markedly, but I don't think that I'd be so lucky if I was in an Internet cafe etc. where the difference in service might not be so great.
I haven't seen anyone else report this exact issue, although Ovi Suite does seem keen to connect via the phone instead of established Internet for some operations.
So have I missed something in the setup that can stop this?
