Internet video streaming on G5 laggy, choppy

I have a G5 Mac Pro. Latest OSX one can put on it. Currently hooked up via DVI to HDMI to 46" LCD TV. Largely, everything works great. All sound and video and software works fine. The one problem I have run into which could be a deal breaker is that video streaming from the web is terrible. It is laggy, choppy, slow, etc. Sometimes the sound is off. The install is pretty fresh. I haven't checked to see what media apps might be installed, for example Flip4Mac. I have hunted around and heard things like Flash, Silverlight, or just that PPC processors cannot handle video streaming from the Internet. The video card seems standard and DVD and local video files play fine. All updates are installed. It is also like this when using a regular Dell LCD using DVI. Any suggestions?

  • Online video playback is severally laggy/choppy on my macbook pro 2011?

hey guys, got a bit of an issue here. I've been noticing some SEVERE lagging issues whilst viewing online (streaming) video, from various sites, including, novamov, youtube, and others. the videos rarely stop to buffer as i have a fast connection, but yet they still seem to lag wildly. what i mean by this, is the sound will continue as normal, the the picture will freeze sometimes for a good 5 seconds or so before resuming, this is happening increasingly more and more..
i am running Mac OSX Lion (latest Update) on my:
    MacBook Pro
    17-inch, Early 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
If it helps my hard drive space is:
    Macintosh HD
    Capacity: 664 GB
    Available: 179.79 GB
The browser i am using is the latest version of Safari, although i have tried firefox and chrome and i experience the same issue.
I have Sophos anti-virus installed and run regular scans on my system (all clear)
i really can't think of anything else which could be causing an issue here. I haven't installed any additional software for a while, not in the time frame since the error started to occur.
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video when my £3000+ computer handles heavy applications such as Final cut pro and Photoshop with ease...
i MUST be missing something here,
I really would appreciate any help i can get here.
thankyou very much for your time

    Hey Carolyn,
Worked a treat, de-jaggy video for first time in months!!! Only point of clarification, I manually deleted the Flash plug-in before I uninstalled Flash. Don't know if this was why it worked for me rather than others but hey ...
    Thanks again!

    Hi Ben...
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video
Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin required for most YouTube video.
Quit all open browsers. I'm using Safari as a test.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the current plugin first.
Then launch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

    http://www.fastpasstv.ms/  .... or

Post relates to: Pixi p120eww (Sprint)

IMHO, if your main interest is viewing video (I know Hulu won't work, not sure of the others), why are you choosing the smallest screen HP placed on a phone?  :/

  • NB 255 - Choppy Internet Video

An admitted noob when it comes to hardware and specs, I'm hoping someone can help me out with what I believe to be a fairly fixable problem.,..
I just bought an NB 255 with Windows 7 Home Premium, and really enjoy so far. Except for one thing: internet videos are almost always extremely choppy. And I'm not talking a few frames being skipped here and there, it's pretty unwatchable. The sound is fine, and I usually close out every other program. Doesn't matter which site -- Youtube, Dailymotion, Hulu, etc. Internet connections are usually fine... 4 or 5 (out of 5) bars. Playing videos that aren't online -- thru iTunes, WMV, or Quicktime -- are all crisp and gorgeous.
    My specs:
    Model: TOSHIBA NB255
    Processor: Inter(R) Atom(TM) CPU N455 @ 1.66GHz
    RAM: 1.00 GB
    System Type: 32-bit operating system
Hard Drive: 197GB of 233GB free
Network Adapter: Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter
Display Adapter: Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 3150
Windows edition: Windows 7 Home Premium
I guess I'd be willing to pay a little bit of money for some kind of upgrades if that's what's necessary since the machine was fairly inexpensive. But I find this kind of unfortunate, as I understand that a netbook isn't designed to be the most powerful machine on the planet, but I would consider watching videos a pretty rudimentary online task.

Do you have the factory Windows installation installed? Or has Windows been reinstalled manually?
Have you updated the BIOS and the Display Driver to the latest versions? (check the Toshiba website).
Are you sure its not a bandwidth problem? Maybe the video isn't being fed fast enough.

  • All video streaming has continuous pixelation/macroblocking issues

On youtube, dailymotion, vimeo, etc.  (all internet video streaming sites)  the video becomes pixelated and I get macroblocking.  It appears for a few seconds, then it goes away, then a few seconds later it comes back.  It does this continuously off and on.  This happened before and I couldn't find a solution so I re-installed Windows 7 and then the problem went away.  But only 3 weeks into the new re-boot and the problem has resurfaced.  I have no idea what happened or how to fix it.  Please help!!  I can give you the specs for my PC and let you know whatever else is needed to solve this problem.  My PC skills are not that advanced, but I can follow directions very well.  This problem is starting to really piss me off.  When I download a youtube video, the problem is not there when I watch it on VLC media player.  The problem is only present when I am streaming it from the internet.  This problem just "appeared".  It was not there on a clean re-install.  I  don't know how it re-surfaced again.  I've searched through other forums an I cannot find an answer anywhere!  I need to know the source of the problem and I thought it might be Adobe Flash, but I am not sure.  When the videos become pixelated, it looks like this (I took a screen shot):

My browser is Firefox version 18.0 (it is up-to-date) and I have DownloadHelper version 4.9.13 and Adblock Plus version 2.2.1 as add-ons.  My Adobe flash player version is 11.5.502.146.  My operating system is Windows 7 Professional (64-bit).  The HTML5 video worked perfectly fine.  No problems with that one.  The Non-HTML5 video showed the same problems I keep running into.  Here is a cropped screenshot of it:
Thank you.  I really appreciate the help.  So what is the next step???  The HTML5 video had no problems and worked perfectly fine.  I figured it would just be easier to show my entire system information (motherboard, processor, video card etc.), so here is the output from the DirectX Diagnotic Tool regarding my system information:

Hi all. sorry if this answer was submitted before. I found some explanations but i still need to know exactly what  is going on. I have imac 20" 1.25 ghz 1gb ram 64mb geforce 5200..i am running mac os 10.4.11 tiger.....  Why is all video streaming so choppy and unwatchable? i have installed flash 10.1 , using firefox...i cant downgrade to flash 8 because the video i watching online requires flash 10.  Do i have any chances that i can fix somehow this video streaming problems? youtube is fine only on the lowest quality. I have this imac cos my laptop is broken but i did not know that is is so bad with video streaming..
I have dome some cache, history and other cleaning but it did not help.. safari is even worst than firefox.

Make sure you are using the latest .....
    RealPlayer
    Flip4Mac
    VLC Media Player http://perian.org
    Perian (AVI and FLV support)
    MPEG Streamclip
    Adobe Flash Player Software
As others have reported, max out your RAM.
    Type of internet service?
    Choppy YouTube Video Solution
Download the latest flash player from Adobe. After installing, repair permissions & restart your computer.
Go to YouTube, open any video and press pause (don't do this while video is playing). Click the ctrl key or “right click” the mouse in the middle of the video window. The settings for flash player will pop up.
Select the video settings then select "enable hardware acceleration."    Press close. Now RESTART YOUR  COMPUTER not just Safari if that is your browser of choice.
    Good luck!

  • Choppy video streaming...

I'm trying to watch a live video stream on MLB.com (major league baseball).
It's playing back one frame at a time. If it was just choppy, it wouldn't be as bad.
Anyway, it used to work fine.
Real Player, and Windows Media Player are both doing the same thing.
It's also doing it when I watch it from within the browser.
That's what makes me think that it's a computer problem rather than the connection.
    Can someone help?
I use DSL, via my airport wireless.
All other internet related things work fine.
    thanks.

You mentioned in your post that you upgraded the latest firmware. So after upgrading the firmware did you reset the router? It is recommended to reset the router after firmware upgrade.  Steps to reset the router:
Push the reset button on router for 30 seconds, turn off the router wait for 30 seconds and then power it on. After this process reconfigure the router. Power light should blink when you perform the reset process.
After the process reconfigure the router as per the ISP setup.. Then try to do the following steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] Lower the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) from 1500 to 1400 or less (usually found on your router's main/ basic setup page)
4] Then go to the Wireless tab, keep network mode as mixed,
For Channel Settings of 2.4 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 6, 9, 11..
For Channel Settings of 5 GHz you can make Channel Width to 20 MHz only and Channel to 40 or 161...
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.

  • Choppy video streaming from samba on wireless network

    Hey all,
I have a macbook pro with leopard 10.5.7 installed. The server setup is a Linux server running samba which is wired to a wireless router. I connect my macbook pro wirelessly to the router. Everything is all set up; my computer can connect to the server and browse the files without a problem. However, when I try to watch videos stored on my server through samba, the video is extremely choppy and practically unwatchable. I know this is a wireless problem with my macbook pro because my windows desktop has no problems at all watching videos over the wireless connection and when I wire the laptop directly to the router, the video streams just fine i.e, no choppiness. I have browsed the fourms and the internet but no solution has come up yet. I was hoping someone here might have a solution.
    Thanks,
    schne1derman

Thank God! I thought I was the only one having this problem.
I also have a Ubuntu box with all my movies and I stream videos wirelessly from it to my macbook using XBMC (ubuntu) and Plex (mac). At first I thought the problem was the wireless G speeds from my previous router so I bought an Airport Extreme Base Station and connected it via ethernet to my existing ADSL/Wireless router on a bridge configuration. Both ubuntu and macbook are now connected at 300Mbps but I'm still experiencing occasional choppy video. The wireless connection stays up at all times so it's not a wireless connectivity issue.
I tried NFS but the problem persisted. I also installed Windows 7 RC on my bootcamp partition and had the exact same problem. Which means it can be an issue with the Airport on the macbook. I don't have another computer with Windows so I cannot say if it would work better on a PC.
At first I suspected the problem was with ubuntu so I posted this on the ubuntu forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7324538
As you can see on the description I was getting those messages on the mac logs:
26/05/09 6:02:19 PM KernelEventAgent[198] tid 00000000 type 'smbfs', mounted on '/Volumes/MediaCenter', from '//ed@ed-linux/MediaCenter', not responding
    26/05/09 6:02:19 PM KernelEventAgent[198] tid 00000000 found 1 filesystem(s) with problem(s)
    26/05/09 6:02:19 PM loginwindow[197] 1 server now unresponsive
At first I thought it was a problem with the arp tables on the mac. I created a static entry for my ubuntu box. Now the connection is better and the samba volume doesn't disconnect as often and when it does, it reconnects after a while. Before the arp table static entry I had to reconnect manually:
26/05/09 6:02:32 PM kernel smbiodreconnect: Reconnected to ed-linux
One other thing to add. Before installing 10.5.7 (i.e running 10.5.6), I had this problem and the video used to get frozen (samba share disconnection) once or twice on a 1 hour video and reconnected 15 to 20 seconds right after it. Not a big deal. Now it happens several times (5 or 6 times on a 30 minute video) and it takes around 30 to 40 seconds to reconnect.

  • How can I stop QuickTime from streaming all internet videos?

    HI
When I updated my ITunes all the media file associations were changed to QuickTime. I want the Windows Media Player to keep the associations.
What I did so far is:
I have disabled all associations in QuickTime player options (except .mov) and turned on all associations in Win Media Player (which I prefer for streaming internet videos) however QuickTime still opens all onling videos. How can I change that. Is uninstalling QT the only solution to this problem?
    PC   Windows XP
    PC   Windows XP

Changing the the file associations from within QT and WMP settings may not be enough if there are current files on the hard drive that have been previously associated with that media player.
Try right clicking on one of those files, Where it shows; Opens With: click on the Change button, and choose what media player to handle it

  • Does Premier Elements allow me to record video streaming from the internet?

Does Premier Elements allow me to record video streaming from the internet?  If so which version and how?

    kc42k
Although Premiere Elements is not going to record streaming video from the Internet but there are other programs that can, you should consider the terms of service for the web site that is the source for the streaming video.
Online, there are very comprehensive articles on numerous programs that will do the recording.
But, even those articles point out that many of the Internet web sites that you target for their videos have terms of service that would legally prohibit the recording of streaming video from the named web sites, one example, YouTube, if no download button and depending on the terms of service.
Please consider. Any questions about the above, I can point you to the appropriate documentation on the matter.
    Thank you.

  • EA6500 Choppy Video Stream to Xbox360

I've been viewing some videos streamed through the EA6500 from a Qnap 419p II NAS, and several video files are playing back extremely choppy.
I can confirm that the video files play fine on the Xbox360 using a USB key and have also previously streamed these videos without any problems using a Belkin Wireless Pre-N router (that I upgraded from) streamed from the same NAS.
I've attempted to configure the Media Prioritization feature, but haven't noticed any different results. I have also adjusted other various settings that haven't affected the playback in any way.
My only guess is that some of the files are encoded in a format that the router is struggling with - the video files are not HD videos, and their bitrates are generally quite low - if my old Belkin router can do it, the EA6500 shouldn't have any problems either.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Here's my router's configuration:
    - Software version: 1.0.0.145954/1.0.0.159292
    - EA6500 firmware version: 1.1.28.146072
    Thanks for reading my post!

    Hey jamay,
Below you'll be able to find the information about the video file I'm trying to stream from my Qnap NAS to my Xbox360.
Note that I'm not actually using the routers USB attached storage / Media Server DLNA features to stream the file, but simply streaming the file from one network device to another. The codec that the video was encoded with won't necessarily apply.
The video does stream okay to my Home PC, but not the Xbox360. My Home PC is using a static IP address, but the Xbox is currently configured to aquire an ip address from the routers DHCP server. I might try and see if using a static IP address will change anything.

  • Video Streamer Via Internet

Hi, I scoured the forums and couldn't find anything that really satisfied my question: Can I stream videos over the internet without encoding anything?
For example, I want to stream my library of about .75 TB from my computer at my college apartment to pretty much any other place I'm at, with no (or minimal) encoding. On the fly encoding would be possible to do since my computer is pretty beefy and should be able to handle it.
Linux to Windows would probably be preferable.

  • Streaming internet video

Could someone please tell me whether (and how) I can stream live internet video through my ATV to my TV.

you can't. the appletv does not support that feature.

  • Slow video streaming from internet

When playing a video stream from a website, I get choppy playback. The playback works in 10 second groupings, then stops to retrieve more data, plays a little more, then repeats process. A 3 minute video can take 6 minutes of frustrating playback. I'm trying to start with Firefox, Windows 2000 machine (yes, it's a dinosaur) to see how to speed it up.

This can be a problem with the file [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Firefox stores session data every 10 seconds to make it possible to restore a crashed session.<br />
If you have (security) software that interferes with that or have many tabs open then that cause cause a delay.
Some have reported that increasing the session store saving interval worked for them.
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Session_Restore
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.sessionstore.interval
