Internet won't connect on iPod touch?

At the beginning of the week my internet stopped working, someone fixed it for me yesterday and it works fine the the computer but i can't get the wifi to work.
It still pops up on my ipod same as always called linksys, it will give me three bars but tell me its not connected to the internet if i try to visit a website.
Oldly enough it will let the google homepage load and thats it. I have tried to reset my network settings, restart the router, renew lease but nothing works.
One other thing i can mention is that when i restarted my computer and logged in a box popped up called dial up and asked me to connect to the internet.
Also my wifi is not locked and doesn't require a password, and my sisters laptop won't connect to the internet either.

Some background might help:
- What make/model router are you using?
- Does your router have the latest firmware? (Check the manufacturer's support web page)
- What security type are you using? (None, WEP, WPA, WPA2)
- Does your router use DHCP?
- Have you tried powering off and restarting the router?
If you are connected to the router but can't access the internet then the possibility exists that the DHCP service in your router is not giving you a local network IP address.
To check on this go to:
*Settings > WiFi >* +your network name+
and press the ">" to the right to bring up the connection details.
Report all that you see. If the IP address starts with 169 then the router is not giving a local network IP address and you will not be able to access the internet.

  • Firewire won't connect to ipod touch

I bought a Firewire to Ipod/Iphone cable so that I could have faster data transfer but my 2007 Mac book pro will not even recognize the device.  Is there a setting that I need it works perfectly with external harddrive and the Ipod Touch works with the factory USB connection.
Thanks to all that can help in advance.

I think that iPod touch will work only with the USB cable, fire wire was used on older iPod's, but it was replaced with USB.

  • ITunes won't connect to Ipod touch

Hi I have an iBook G3 with OS 10.4.11. The latest version of iTunes I can download is 8.2.1. I just bought an iPod Touch 3rd generation 32 GB from which I thought I could use with this version of OS and iTunes. Turns out when I plug it into my laptop, it says that this version of iTunes will not support iPod Touch. When I go to the download page for iTunes, it says that 8.2.1 does support iPod Touch. I tried redownloading 8.2.1 to no avail. Can someone please help me? I am in the process of trying to save enough money to buy the new MacBook Pro but until then I need help!
    Thank you

It does seem odd that a Mac with 10.4.11 and iTunes 9 will not sync.  The Apple page for the OP iPod model states 10.4.11 and iTunes 9: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC008?mco=MTM3NzY1NzA  So if iTunes 9 did properly install it is curious what the issue would be?  >I tried installing the iTunes 9 and it installed but still when I plug the iPod in, it says I need 10.1 or later of iTunes

Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router

My daughter,s college has no WiFi in the dorms, but each room has an Ethernet connection. WiFi routers are not allowed.  Can we connect the iPod touch to the Internet using the Ethernet cable and some sort of hardware or patch cord

No. The iPod will only connect to the internet via wifi. The USB connection provides NO internet connectivity.
Maybe you can cheat and setup a laptop with an wifi card as a hotspot

Hi all i won't update my iPod touch 4 generation to ios 5 but there are win the download end its showing a massage (the network connection timed out)

Okay. I've tried syncing it first, resetting it first, downloading the firmware, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, I've checked my connections and ports and everything, run all kinds of diagnostics, and nothing is working. Every time it says it's backing it up, my iPod resets and then it's back to square one. I'm going to restore it and see if that helps. What a pain in the butt, especially since it wouldn't back it up.... >.<

  • Internet won't connect. Works on iPhone but won't open on MacBook

The internet won't connect, I get an exclamation point on my icon. My two iPhones connect ok but I can't get my Mac book to connect.
How do I check, my diagnostics say I should call my provider but the other devices work great.

The IP address starting with 169 is self-assigned and means that your router is not giving your iPod Touch an IP address via DHCP. In this condition you will not be able to access the Internet.
You might try powering down and restarting your router and see if the problem is corrected (your IP address should be something like 192.168.1.x and you should see an address for the router, DNS, etc.). Reset the network settings on your iPod before attempting to connect.
If this doesn't solve your problem test your iPod on another network (Starbucks, Borders, etc.). If it works there then you may need a new router. If it does not work on other networks your iPod may need repair.
By the way, your problem is different from the OP.

  • MacBook loses wireless connection when iPod touch connects to network

    hi
ever since upgrading to 10.5.5. on my MacBook i've had the "intermittent network connection" problems that have been described and discussed (without any real solution from what i can see) in another thread.
PROBLEM: every couple of minutes my MacBook loses connectivity to the network - the AirPort icon still says that i'm connected, albeit with one less bar than before, but i can't connect to anywhere, not even to the wireless router - and to re-establish a connection i need to switch off AirPort, switch it back on, it will then reconnect, and after two minutes or so i have to do it all over again because the network connection drops again.
NOVEL OBSERVATION 1: reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater helped somewhat. i used to get an error in system.log about there being too many state transitions on the wireless network and about network traffic reduction measures being taken to overcome this problem, but after reinstalling the 10.5.5. combo system updater this message never appears in the logs and I get kicked off only sometimes (see what i say in point 2 below)
NOVEL OBSERVATION 2: now my MacBook will only lose its connection to the net if i switch on my iPod Touch and switch its wireless interface on. in fact, the only way to avoid the MacBook getting constantly disconnected is to make sure that the wireless interface on the Touch is switched off in the Touch's system preferences; if I just sleep the Touch (top button) without switching off its wireless network interface first in its System Preferences, then the MacBook will keep disconnecting even while the Touch is in sleep mode (presumably the Touch keeps polling the network or something, even while it's in sleep mode).
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 1: I have another wireless device (my Nokia E51, which has wifi capabilities) and if I connect it to the wireless interface then the MacBook's connection isn't dropped - i.e. the MacBook only loses its wireless connection when my iPod Touch connects to the wireless network.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 2: I have upgraded my wireless router (before I had a Linksys WRT-54GC, now I have a Netgear WGR614v9) but that has made no difference.
DIAGNOSTIC NOTE 3: I have also tried altering the router's settings (i have played around a_lot with this, trying every combination I could think of - e.g. staple down particular devices to particular ip addresses, use only 802.11g versus automatic b/g, etc) but that has made no difference either.
    RANT:
The only thing that prevents these disconnections from occurring is to keep the iPod Touch's wireless switched off, which ***** because if I'm in the kitchen I can't have it switched on to monitor my email (yes, I've no life, i hang around waiting for emails), or if I go have a lie down and want to check out stuff on the net, or to browse the iTunes music store or whatever, then I know that my connecting my iPod Touch the computer will be disconnected.
This obviously *****, right? And a lot of people are having wireless problems with their MacBooks, right? And these problems seem to have been around for over a year, right?
So why hasn't Apple solved this problem yet? Or am I just being melodramatic?
Your thoughts on any or all of the above, or flames if that's your preferred method of communicating, are invited. =)
    Cheers

Having the same problem here. As a first time mac user, Apple has certainly made a bad first impression.
For me, the issue seems to occur when transferring files between computers that are connected to the same access point (when transferring files from wired computers on the network there is no issue). My vista laptop and every laptop I have tried has worked perfectly fine with this access point so I am 100% convinced it is the mac. Basically when I copy the files, after about 100mb, I am unable to access anything on the local network or internet until I restart Airport. The weird thing is that even though I am unable to access anything, the airport utility says it is connected. I might also note that the wireless signal strength is full.
If I can't get this figured out in a few days, this computer is going back to the store where it came from and I will officially label myself anti-mac. This type of issue is just unacceptable for something so main stream.
