Internetwork performance Monitor (IPM) issue of CiscoWork LMS 2.5

I’m implementing IPM 2.6 module on Ciscoworks. To analysis ICMP traffic from Source to Destination, I have made 1 IP Echo entery of source & target, where source is RouterA serial IP & Target is RouterB Serial IP. Now if Normal Ping happens from Router A to B. Traffic analysis & delay displays at IPM. Now I move one another entry where Source Router A & Destination Router C Serial IP. Now Problem begins. Due to some policies, Router A can’t make normal Ping to C but extended ping happens for same but IPM can’t capture extended ping traffic & delay. It always show Request timed out. Now I’m stuck. It’s very necessary to resolve. Waiting..

Dan,
IPM and LMS 3.2 are EOS/EOL. But the features are still available in the latest version of LMS, aka, Cisco prime LMS 4.2.
Cisco Prime LMS 4.x onwards the module specific approach was re-structured to feature centric menu, and hence Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 has all the required + enhanced IPM features.
You can upgrade to LMS 4.2, however, we encourage everyone to move to Cisco Prime Infrastructure, which is more future proof, as Marvin recommended.
IPM feature in Cisco Prime LMS 4.2 is known as Performance Management.

  • What's the replacement of CiscoWorks Internetwork Performance Monitor (IPM)?

    Hi There
    I am using a quite old tool - Ciscoworks IPM 2.5 with CWRW-1.3 in my teaching lab installed in 2004. IPM is good tool for network lab working with Cisco 3700 routers.  Now I am trying to find latest IPM version to upgrade the lab. I find that latest IPM is version 4.2 with Ciscoworks LAN management Solution 3.2 only. But this production is also  end-of-sale and end-of -support  see the page -http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/cloud-systems-management/ciscoworks-lan-management-solution-3-2/model.html
       - End-of-Sale Date:    08-APR-2011 Details
       - End-of-Support Date:    30-APR-2014 Details
    Now I have no idea how to upgrade IPM? Which tool from Cisco or a third party can be replacement of IPM?

  • Internetwork Performance Monitor

    Hello Friends,
    In LMS 4.0 Internetwork Performance monitor, when i try to configure collector configuration, in source devices only 2 switches are available i.e 6500 and 3560 but in Target devices i m able to see 32 devices what i have discovered in DCR,
    Why that so,can anybody help me to understand such issue.
    Thanks

    Hello Dears,
    Manually Importing DCR Devices.
    You can manually add devices to IPM by deselecting the Enable Auto Mode option and select the Apply button in the Internetwork Performance Monitor > Admin > Auto Allocation Settings page. Then go to Internetwork Performance Monitor > Collector Management > Devices and click Add Devices.
    I m using LMS 4.0, the path above is not same in LMS 4.0 there is no Add devices tab to add devices manually but there is a Add Adhoc devices Tab which i can use to add devices manually??
    when there is enable auto mode then why these devices are not imported in IPM automatically, Devices are imported by RME,CM,and also in DFM,but why not in IPM.As per the attachement in previous mail how come these 2 devices were imported in IPM.

  • Internetwork Performance Monitor Broadcast Traffic

    About a month ago we migrated out CiscoWorks server to VMware. Ever since we have had a significant amount of broadcast traffic coming from the server. We have noticed this as it is stopped by our firewall.
    This traffic is broadcast on UDP port 44342 and 42342
    There is also broadcast traffic to the subnet of the server on UDP port 137
    From nbstat I can see that this traffic is coming from Internetwork Performance Monitor.
    The traffic follows an interesting pattern in that for about 3 days after the server is rebooted it appears constantly then stops completely. After the next reboot the traffic appears again.
    Is there anything that can be done to stop this traffic without stopping IPM from working?

    After seeing the traffic hit our firewall I did a netstat on the Cisco Works server and found traffic on UDP ports 44342 & 42342 from the process osiagent.exe. Through services I traced this back to the Cisco Works services.
    I have seen a post which says this is COBRA agent advertisement traffic. It this so?
    If so what exactly is the role of the COBRA agent and can it be administered?

    Hi,
    We decided to keep the server and client configurations separate to keep an overview.
    We added the thread-count parameter to the xml like in this example
    <caching-schemes>
    <!--
    Distributed caching scheme.
    -->
    <distributed-scheme>
    <scheme-name>Provider</scheme-name>
    <service-name>DistributedCache</service-name>
    <thread-count>10</thread-count>
    <backing-map-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <eviction-policy>HYBRID</eviction-policy>
    <high-units>30</high-units>
    <expiry-delay>0</expiry-delay>
    </local-scheme>
    </backing-map-scheme>
    <autostart>true</autostart>
    </distributed-scheme>
    <distributed-scheme>
    <scheme-name>Concept</scheme-name>
    <service-name>DistributedCache</service-name>
    <thread-count>10</thread-count>
    <backing-map-scheme>
    <local-scheme>
    <eviction-policy>HYBRID</eviction-policy>
    <high-units>5</high-units>
    <expiry-delay>0</expiry-delay>
    </local-scheme>
    </backing-map-scheme>
    <autostart>true</autostart>
    </distributed-scheme>
    but this didn't change much in the performance (It was a littlebit better, but didn't get near the response times without coherence). When I took a threaddump of the cacheserver I saw 10 WorkerThreads for coherence. Just a question. Setting the threadcount to 10, does this mean 10 threads per disctributed-scheme, or 10 threads for the distributed service. Must we repeat the thread-count parameter for each distributed-scheme?
    Do we have to increase the thread-count on the client side?
    Are there other things that we can try?
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Kim

  • Need assistance in Ciscoworks LMS 3.2 for enable monitoring of cisco switches

    Hello,
    I am new to the ciscoworks LMS 3.2. I have a task to add a devices in ciscoworks and configure the SNMP on the devices and ciscoworks both. My company has bought the ciscoworks LMS3.2 in 2009 december since then one engineer has configured some devices in it but not fully. I tried to look into the guides and documentation but has huge stuff. My infrastructure lead also not familiar of ciscoworks tool. I know there is lot of documentation in it but I have very less time say this weekend I have to activate monitoring of devices in ciscoworks LMS 3.2. Can anyone please provide me the screenshots or step-by-step procedure to how to enable a device for monitoring who has prior experience on ciscoworks LMS 3.2.
    Regards,
    Ahmed

    Regarding SNMP reachabilty, you are the man........ thats true the firewall is blocking, because the subnets for the swithces which i m trying to add into the ciscoworks are not added into the firewall. Those subnets are different than the other 20 switches which are shown as reachable.
    and regarding the swithces which are already seen reachable, based on the document you have provided me for alert and monitoring of a device. I checked the DFM and configured as it is but still i didn't see any of the alert when I turned off one of the 4506E power supply. Is there something I am missing it.
    What do you need from my side to provide information or screenshot so that we can sort out the issue of monitoring of the device. Should I get an alert even if the device goes down?
    regards
    Ahmed

    Many Thanks in advance,
    LucaI verified that RME has a license to support 1500 devices while the devices discovered by RME are about 1600.
    Many of these devices have now been eliminated from the Network (around 200) and I want to know if there is a way to automatically remove them from CW or if I must remove them manually step by step.

    In LMS 3.0.1, you must remove them manually.  LMS 3.2 has a feature which can poll devices in DCR, then generate a report for those which are no longer reachable.  That will then facilitate removing those devices.

    Hi there,
    I would like to seek your counsel with regards to the recent incident that we encountered with our CiscoWorks LMS 3.1 running on Solaris 10.
    A few days ago, we received a few complains from our users that they were unable to view the pollers or contents of the TOP-N <CPU | Memory | Interface> Utilization on the HUM’s home page (see attached file, hum_homepage.jpg).
    We (tech support guys) checked the pollers’ status and they’re all Active (see attached file, pollers.jpg); we notified our Administrators and requested for a copy of the HUMPortal.log (see attached file, humportal.zip).
    The following day, while waiting for the HUMPortal.log, we received reports that users accessing the HUM home page are stuck with the message “loading…” on all TOP-N Utilization reports.
    As we were about to re-queue our request from our administrators, we received reports (a few hours ago) that our CiscoWorks LMS is inaccessible via web browser.
    We alerted our administrators and they attempted to restart the Daemon Manager (/etc/init.d/dmgmtd); they were able to successfully shut it down but took several attempts to start it up.
    As they attempt to start up the Daemon Manager, they encountered the following error message:
    # /etc/init.d/dmgtd start
    Error: Daemon Management could not start. Trying again
    Error: Unable to bind to port, please check port (42340) state and permissions.
    Error: If the port is in use, please try starting Daemon Manager once it become free.
    After several minutes passed, they were able to start up the Daemon Manager successfully although the CiscoWorks LMS is still inaccessible via web browser.
    We requested for a copy of the “pdshow –brief” log and every daemon (as far as I know) seemed to be working fine but it never hurts to ask for help to verify my findings (see attached file, pdshow0818a.log).
    As of the moment of  this writing, we are still unable to access CiscoWorks LMS via web  browser; any insight or suggestion on the next step to take in  troubleshooting and eventually solving this problem is very much  appreciated.

    The port 42340 issue is most likley not related to the HUM issue you described. The latest log entry you provided indicates "Possible reasons for 'No Data' in HUM Portlets could be either Poller is not configured, or Poller is deactivated, or Poller Failure has occurred, or Summarization job did not start." The error is repeated back to the beginning of the file dated Aug 14 16:39.
    To focus on the HUM issue:
    Did any change occur on or around the 14th that you are aware of?
    Please provide some additional debugs:
    1. Please enable debug for "UPMProcess"
    Log files are stored here: #/var/adm/CSCOpx/log/#
    - HUMPortal.log
    - upm_summarization.log
    - jrm.log
    - upm_process.log
    2. To set log levels:
    *Health and Utilization Monitor > Admin > System Preferences*.
    - Select Log Level Settings.
    - Select the application module from the drop-down list.
    - Select the Debug log level from the Logging Level drop-down list.
    Thanks,
    Nick

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Fault Device Details Issue

           We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 but when I go into,  Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
           I get the following message (see attached document with screenshot) and being a LMS newbie am unsure what to do? As have tried to search for this
           file but no luck.
           So thanks in advance for any advice.

    Check if the fault management rediscovery page shows device as discovered and known or does it have any errors?
    Are you able to generate any fault management reports and view other pages?
    Just try to reboot the server/restart daemon to see if it is goes away.
    Else it is mostly corrupt FM DB. Which would need to be re-initialized.
    Fault Mgmt reinitialize is very simple task, which doesnt removes a lot of data, except past 31 days of FM history and custom notifications, if configured.
    Thanks

  • Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 – Email Notifications Issue

    We currently use Ciscoworks LMS 4.0 with over 1000 devices in the database. I'm a LMS novice. And have been assigned the task of minimising the amount of email notification’s we receive, as if one device goes Operationally Down all devices off that switch also send alerts to the email notification group, which in turn overwhelms the mailbox.
    The ports are configured not to log or send snmp traps.
    no logging event link-status
    no snmp trap link-status
    So any advice on how we can limit these alerts being generated would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Nessie,
    Go to Monitor > Fault Settings > Setup > Fault Device Details
    select the device and click on view  then Click on the hyperlink or the device name\ip address
    that will bring a new window from there click on Interface and chanaged the Managed state from ture to FLASE for those interfaces for which you do not want ALERTS.
    Thanks-

  • Performance monitoring Metrics required to idntify meamory , IO issues

    Hello All,
    Can some one , come up with your ideas to identify the  metrics required to capture the meamory or I/O issues in sql server .
    i would like to know the exact metrics to identify when my clients says meamory or i/o performance issues
    thank you
    hemadribabu
    hemadri

    Hi Hemadribabu,
    According to your description, you want to know the performance monitoring metrics on memory and I/O. About memory, there are top six SQL monitor metrics for analysis, such as Avg. CPU Queue Length, Avg. Disk Queue Length, Memory Pages/Sec, Latch Wait Time,
    Buffer Page Life Expectancy and  Average Lock Wait Time. These metrics provide ways to quickly understand the general performance characteristics of your system. For more information, you can review the following articles.
    https://www.simple-talk.com/sql/sql-tools/top-six-sql-monitor-metrics-for-analysis/
    http://www.manageengine.com/products/applications_manager/sql/memory-monitoring.html
    About I/O issue, there are some factors affect I/O, such as overload disks, poorly defined queries, poorly performing disk and so on. For more information about disk I/O, you can review the following blog.

  • LMS 4.2 Performance Monitor

    Hi All.
    I have encountered an error while creating the new poller by selecting the interfacerror template.
    Is it the license limitation?? if license limitation how can i find out the current devices count in the performance monitor page ??
    Find the attached errors.
    Regds,
    Channa

    OK, your license appears to be in order.
    To check the number of devices under performance management, please see Admin > Dashboards > Device Status. You should see something like the screenshot below.
    If the count on the status display is less than your 100 device license you should be be able to create new pollers. If the count is under your license total and you still cannot create pollers, you may be seeing a bug and a TAC case is in order.
