Interrupted Audio

I just got my Macbook back from a week of repairs and I couldn't be happier. Its like having a brand new laptop all over again. For three whole days.
Today there is microphone-like-hum coming from the laptop speakers that sounds as if it is being silenced by a noise gate once every second. It is like someone very quiet in the room who is singing:
"ffff . . . ffff . . . ffff . . . ffff . . ."
All sound is muted and I hear this noise.
There are no applications open and I hear this noise.
Attempts to fiddle with the Audio Preferences changes nothing, opening Garage Band and opening its preferences changes nothing, and rebooting changes nothing.
Playing video or audio files will replace the "ffff . . ." sound with interrupted audio, giving a fairly unpleasant strobe-like effect as if I am about to drop a phone call.
Audio through the headphones is perfect. No interrupted sounds, no unwanted sounds, no problem. And attaching headphones turns the speakers off so this is the only way the laptop can be both powered on and silent, for now.
But it is hard for all my friends to gather around my computer and make fun of Rebecca Black's music when we have to share a single pair of earbuds. How can I discipline these misbehaving speakers?
Why can't I have nice things?

Apple covers their repairs for 90 days. If it was repaired by Apple, I'd bring it right back to the store in case it is a hardware issue. If it's a different repair shop, check into their warranty on repairs.

  • Streaming interruptions (audio and video)

    Sorry if this has been already reported but I can't really find a good answer.
    I recently replaced my first gen AppleTV with a new one and have been experiencing audio and video drops intermittently.  When I use iTunes to stream music from my MacBook Pro the audio will play well for the most part but, every once in a while the audio drops out then comes back.  Very frustrating when you are into a song!  Likewise, when I stream from Netflix (which I do often) the movie will be interrupted, the screen goes black and the audio drops for several seconds then comes back.  When I stream Netflix from my BD player it works flawlessly.  Both the BD player and AppleTV are connected to the router via wires to a 100Mbps switch.  The MacBook Pro is streaming via wireless.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Interrupted audio extraction, now audio LOST on some clips!

    I was extracting audio from several clips. As it was running I realized I did not need to extract from all the clips, only one. Since extracting audio takes SO LONG, I pressed the CANCEL button during extraction. Now some of the clips had already extracted and those are fine (with extracted audio) but the remaining clips which did not extract now have NO AUDIO at all. HELP!!!! I need to recover the lost audio without losing the hours I already spent editing and arranging clips.

    Hi n
    Are You sure.
    If advanced user and really know this, then You need to:
    • delete iMovie pref file
    • Repair premissions - Apple Disk Util tool
    • Repair Hard disk - Apple Disk Util tool - You need to start from CD/DVD or external hard disk to do this.
    If not so sure or a beginner:
    • When Extracting audio the original sound is not moved from Your Clip only silenced. If You turn on
    audio adjustment "rubber-band" then You just increas the audio of Your clip to 100% ant ther it is.
    Last point is my main bet.
    iMovie is a non-destructive movie editor. That's why Your sound should be with Your clip and just
    silenced after extracting.

  • Number of seconds played when reproduction is interrupted

    Hi.
    Sorry if my english is not all right. I´m from Spain.
    I have a Server-Side Script which appends some stored mp3
    files to a stream. In some moment, client can invoke a function
    which stops the reproduction and i need to store the number of
    seconds the interrupted audio segment was played.
    I tried to solve it by using the javascript Date object in
    this way:
    -just after NetStream.Play.Start event is launched, i store a
    timestamp: application.initialInstant = new Date();
    -just after NetStream.Play.Stop event is launched, i store a
    timestamp: application.finalInstant = new Date();
    -var milisecondsPlayed = application.finalInstant -
    application.initialInstant;
    This does not work all right. The result is that, in example,
    if the complete segment dures 30 seconds, this way counts about
    27-28 seconds.
    Does anyone know how to improve this?
    I think(but I don´t know) it could be related to the
    Server-Side Stream out-buffer because of the NetStream.Play.Stop
    event is launched when there is no more data to append from the
    file in server´s filesystem to the Server-Side Stream
    out-buffer, but before all data in Server-Side Stream out-buffer is
    flushed.
    Thanks a lot.
    #Edited:
    I have checked the bufferTime property in the Server-Side
    Stream has 0 as value, so my idea is not right.
    I hope anybody could guide me to get my purpose.

    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    *Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
    (Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

  • Apple TV pauses in audio

    My Apple TV has brief (less than 1/2 sec) pauses when I am watching any of my TV shows or movies. The pauses occur approximately every 20 minutes. My video content is current all contained on my Apple TV's hard drive, so I don't believe that it's a streaming issue.
    It didn't occur for the 1st couple months that I owned it and now it does. I don't believe that I changed any settings. The only thing that may have coincided (although I'm not sure) is that I moved my iTunes library to an external hard drive. Since the entire video content is duplicated on my ATV, I can't imagine that's the problem. Any help would be appreciated!

    I may have a solution for you...
    First... +_the problem_+, while playing any video (iTunes or self-made) and/OR playing any music (iTunes or CDRip) the audio pauses for 1/2 or 50 ms or .5 sec every 30 - 90 seconds.
    NOTE:
    1. the output from my aTV is via HDMI (I thought of saving on the cables... boy was I wrong).
    2. the Receiver / DVD Home theater system / TV is a Samsung Model. (The problem)
    3. I got the aTV replaced
    4. I have sent the aTV for repairs and resets 2 times apart form the replacement.
    *The Problem...*
    I own a Samsung LCD TV 1080p and a Samsung HT-TXQ120T Home theater system (with 2 HDMI and 2 Digital Ins').
    I was trying to use the free HDMI port on the DVD home theater package to plug the aTV in and that way ride the audio and video with FULL DEF and Digital Audio Clarity via the HDMI.
    The Samsung has implemented the HDMI 1.3 standard a bit too rigidly and the aTV doesnt quite meet the HDMI 1.3 standards (or so I have read, read *+ref# 1+*, Post 25/88) and exurb...
    "+When I called your support group they told me that 4065 is using the strict HDMI 1.3 protocol and according to them if Apple does not work - it is because Apple is not adhering to this - Apple claims they are since it works on other TV's (they hooked it to Sony and it worked fine).+"
    Further reading on the Apple forums I came along this POST, but the lack of a reply was disheartening. Still digging around these forums I came across two more posts... (+*Ref #2 & #3*+)
    Though the answer wasn't straight forward it kind of lead to it...
    *The Solution...*
    If you have a DVD receiver / Home theater /TV capable of receiving a Digital Optical Audio Input then your problems are solved. Try to mute the audio coming from the HDMI port. Voila!
    aTV doesn't seem to have interrupted audio coming via the Digital Optical Audio Out or via the Toshlink cable.
    I hope this direct answer helps you and others like me out... Spent 4 months on this annoying problem and no one at Apple seems to be having this direct answer....

  • Audio Only Segment With Other Video?

    Ok, here's the scenario. I used two cameras to film an event. Camera A up front and Camera B in the back.
    Camera A's volume is much clearer and the main track I would like to keep on the final video segment.
    Can I keep Camera A's video and sound for most of the presentation and maintain Camera A's audio only track to continuously run without interruption while switching to Camera B's video at certain points throughout?
    Example:
    Camera A sound & video :01 through 1:05 timeline
    Switch to Camera B video only while keeping A's audio track 1:06 through 1:13 timeline
    Back to Camera A without interrupting audio track 1:14 to 1:45 timeline...etc.
    Thanks in advance!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   Final Cut Express 3.5 HD

    Edit camera A into the timeline video and audio onto V1/A1/A2. Edit camera B into the timeline on V2/A3/A4. In the canvas resize the images down about 50% so you can see them both. Sync up the two cameras. Hold the Option key and select the audio on A3/A4 and delete it. With the images resized cut up the B camera to edit out the bits you don't need. When you're done reset the scale values for all the clips back to 100%.

  • [Android][Other] Spotify needs to let users change the AudioFocus() settings like PowerAmp does.

    Hi Spotify, I think you should seriously consider updating the Advanced Settings section of the Spotify Android app so that a user can make the following granular settings: - Interrupt audio when notifications play (yes/no)- Interrupt audio when other media plays (yes/no) I am modeling this after how the ideas are set up in PowerAmp for android, one of the most popular non-streaming music apps.  This would simply require engaging with the AudioFocus() android API object. The advantages for Android users would be huge.  Right now, every time I get any kind of notification, my music is completely interrupted for about 750ms.  This is really intolerable when getting a lot of notifications - which, of course you know - is sort of the way that all apps do things nowadays. Android market share in the US and around the world has been going up as the cost of iOS devices increases.  We're now at about 65% market share, and it's only going to go up.  As your competitors spend more time on their Android apps, people are simply going to choose the service with the biggest catalog and the best experience.  I think you should really give the Android app more thought overall, but especially this specific change. Some resources about audio management for Android: https://developer.android.com/training/managing-audio/audio-focus.html https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1bi32i/one_of_androids_alltime_most_annoying_issues/ Thanks!  Colin

  • 60 second buzz

    I am having a buzzing noise every 60 seconds which interrupts audio playback and gaming.  I do have McAfee installed.  I did a search for viruses and nothing came up.  I did a search for malware and a newplayer.exe file was quarantined, but the problem continues.

    * Press Windows+R
    * Enter msconfig
    * Click OK
    * Click the Services tab
    * Look for Dell Data Vault, Dell SupportAssist, Dell SupportAssistAgent
    * If found, un-check the check box
    * Click Apply- OK
    * Restart the system
    * Test the audio for noise
    If the noise issue is fixed, The Dell Support Assist was the culprit. Keep the settings as is. There will be an auto-update to correct the issue.

  • Normal USB usage causes Yosemite to Freeze

    Since 10.10 and 10.10.1 Yosemite has been freezing me out of the OS on my 2014 Retina MBP.
    It happens regularly when a new USB device is plugged in, or when an already plugged in device has an alteration in it's state of power. The result is that all mouse and keyboard input is impaired/frozen. This includes the trackpad, built in keyboard and external mouse. No amount of plugging and unplugging restores access to the computer. The system still seems to be running as the odd email notification will come up, and once I had a large folder of files copying that seemed to finish. To restore use, I need to force restart.
    Other times, plugging in or removing (gracefully) a USB device will interrupt audio playing through my USB sound card, which goes silent for a second, or squeals at a speaker/ear piercing 10,000 Hz. This, and with Ableton live 9 freezing itself every 5 minutes makes using this thing for audio production completely useless.
    The triggers so far have been...
    Switching my Remote SL midi keyboard off and on again
    Switching my Motu Mk3 Ultralight on or off
    Switching my DN-MC6000 on or off
    Unplugging all of the above directly from the USB port (i.e. hot swap)
    Note: I have tried plugging in to my Dlink USB2 hub and also directly into the MBP. The Dlink has been very stable in the past, although audio equipment, and many other USB devices seem to prefer being plugged in to the root port. It's ironic that Apple applies form over function when it comes to the number of USB ports provided, yet seems so unstable when an external hub is used.
    Note that the laptop came with Mavericks, and one of the first things I did before installing anything else was accept the Yosemite upgrade. So technically it's not a clean install. But there should have been very little in the way of system files that needed to make the transition.

    Try testing without anything but a keyboard and mouse connected. Plug and unplug common things like USB drives or your Camera.
    It may be one of these or the required drivers (if they have any):
    Remote SL midi keyboard
    Motu Mk3 Ultralight
    DN-MC6000
    If all of those are disconnected and something like a thumb drive causes problems, uninstall the software for all of those things and see if things like a thumb drive or hub works ok. You can test this by booting into Safe Mode which should disable any of the extensions required for those items:

    All of the movies that we watch on I tunes have intermittent interruptions to the audio.  It's like a one second blank every 20 seconds and we miss what is being said.  This is independent of which movie is playing.  We are on Shaw and have purchased their best modem and registered for the higher speed option.  Our Apple TV receiver is hard wired back to our network hub and the hub is working correctly.  There is no problem with the video.  What could be causing this problem?

    I own the movies and I want them to stay in my iTunes library basically forever.
    But in both cases the file name no longer shows in the movie list, so I don't know how to re-download it from the Cloud.
    iTunes prefs > Store > Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
    This will show all your iTunes purchases in your library with a cloud icon down arrow. Click the icon to redownload or click on Play to stream without downloading.
    Also see this , -> Download past purchases
    and techncially, you don't "own" the movie, You simply have a license to use it.
    Yet the first thing iTunes does when you hit the delete key is tell you that it will remove the movie forever from all devices and the library.
    Actually, no it does not tell you that.
    FYI: You should keep copies of all yoru iTnue spurahses as the labels/movie studios/copyright owners can pull their product at anytime and it won't be available to redownload.

  • Audio playback interrupts randomly

    What might be wrong, when the imported .aif or .mp3 file playback interrupts after few seconds of playing?
    In timeline audioeditor same track plays fine, but in canvas it only plays for few seconds.
    The audio playback is behaving like a scratched DVD, or like it was too heavy for the processor.
    There is not any moving images, as I tried to start a project by first importing the music, but even it does not function properly.

    And to answer my self, I found the solution from the preferences:
    The chekbox "pause audio playback" when sync is lost, was checked. Unchecking it cleared the problem.

  • Audio interrupted when switching camera angles (help request)

    When switching camera angles in FCPX 10.0.3, a clip is split into two and there's a slight break in the audio at that point. I'm using the Angle Viewer, and I've selected video-only switching, but due to the Blade tool there's still a gap in the audio whenever I switch camera angles. For instance, if I switch cameras (by pressing 1 or 2 on the keyboard or clicking the respective camera view) during dialog, the word is interrupted by a glitch or hiccup at that point.
    My setup is two cameras synchronized with external audio. My goal is simply to be able to switch from one camera angle to another while retaining the audio exactly. I wish to make hard cuts (i.e., no cross dissolves or other transitions)—surely this must be the easiest and most common of multicam edits?
    Is there any setting to automatically crossfade adjacent audio clips? The Expand Audio/Video command doesn't allow for separate audio/video editing on multicam clips. Further, the Detach Audio command also doesn't work on multicam clips. Adding cross dissolves only to audio therefore appears to be impossible for multicam editing, at least not without extremely time-consuming surgical editing, which clearly isn't a feasible solution.
    I'd be extremely grateful for any help.

    I think this describes my issue as well. Thank you for your investigation!
    I had the background noise reduction enabled on the angle I was using for the multicam audio. I disabled that, and the volume adjustment I had made to the track, and now the full multicam clip with angle switching appears to be playing without audio interruptions.
    I'm working on a possible work-around: In the Project Timeline, I took all of the "sub-clips" representing each new angle, and created a new compound clip containing all of them. I then applied the noise reduction to the compound clip. This appears to apply the noise reduction to the compound clip as a whole, instead of each individual angle cut, and therefore does not interrupt the audio on an angle cut.
    Write back if it works for you.

    Hello Achates:
    I did not read the rather long post. If you wish to reinstall OS X 10.4, use your software install DVD. Backup is essential. To minimize your risk, I would use an archive and install:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
    In that way, you will have a fresh copy of OS X and your current settings will be preserved.
    Incidentally, I do not agree that the printer problem is best solved by reinstalling OS X. I have had HP printers for sometime and, on one occasion, had difficulty after an upgrade. HP technical support walked me through uninstalling all traces of the HP driver and then reinstalling.
