Interrupted Setup Assistant

In the middle of answering the questions on Setup Assistant on my new iMac, the power cord disconnected. The idiot setting up the iMac (me) did not realize that the power cord was not securely in place. When I fixed my mistake and rebooted I was taken to what I suspect is the normal desktop view (no more Setup Assistant). How do I either begin Setup Assistant again and fill in all the information, or check that all the necessary information was already acquired by Setup Assistant?
Thank you for in advance for putting up with such a rank n00b.

well, it doesn't sound like you are missing much. the only thing that you need is an admin account to run your computer and it seems you already have that. you can check that it works. Go to system preferences->accounts. Your account should be listed there and it should say admin. also, log out of your account from the apple menu and log back in. if that works you are all set.
The only thing you might be missing is a .Mac account if don't have one already. I believe you can set it up from Apple web site.

  • After Leopard install Mac OSX Setup Assistant is in a constant loop

I have a friend who I persuaded to switch to mac a few years ago and he recently installed Leopard without much success on his second mac (it was fine on his macbook pro 2.13ghz), a Power PC G5 1.8ghz - 1.25 gb ram. When I had a look at it it appears to be stuck in Mac OSX Setup Assistant mode - i.e. when you put the info in and the Screen says "enjoy your computer" or whatever it just comes back to the same Setup page. (What's weird is can't get to the end unless it has an internet signal - wireless at his place and ethernet at mine)
I'm guessing something went wrong during installation as when I restart with the Leopard disc in and hold "c" Leopard install launches but only shows drivers and some languages need to be installed. I copied all important files via target mode and it shows that the Computer is "10.5". I'm guessing the full installation was interrupted. There doesn't appear to be a way to do a complete re-install. I ran Tech-Tool and Disk Warrior to rebuild and verify permissions etc. No joy!
I'd like to do a full re-install of Leopard but I can't. As I have all important info backed up I guess I might have to completely wipe the disc and install Leopard on the blank disc - should this be okay as I've never done that before?
    Any other suggestions appreciated.

If I press go back ...it just goes back to the Welcome screen.
I should mention that if I try and select anything that needs to be opened in a window from the Apple menu nothing opens up. For example if I choose System Preferences it will show System Preferences in the top menu but no window will open.

  • Interrupting migration assistant from imac to macbook pro?

i am currently using migration assistant to transfer information from my imac to a recently purchased macbook pro. unfortunately i didn't investigate enough before starting the process and i didn't expect it will take me 5 hours to finish. my question is: can i interrupt the process without damaging the computers or files? if so, how?

thanks Kappy for your quick reply. my biggest dilemma is that is about 1:33am, and i am contemplating to stay awake until early morning. still 4h:53min to go for the transfer tonbe completed. another related question: when i turned on my macbook pro was not prompted to install the software that came with it. instead i started with setup assistant that led me to migration information. i even didn't set up a new account or email in my new macbook pro. do you think once the migration is over i'll be prompted to install the software? by the way, my imac is relatively new (purchased in march this year)------- any thoughts? do you think i was not prompted to install the software because the imac software is update?

  • How do I get rid of the Microsoft Setup Assistant loop? I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word, and stuck in a loop?

I migrated my software/documents from another laptop so don't have the disk to reinstall. Please help! Can't open any Microsoft Office software, like Word (for 2008), and stuck in a loop?
Whenever I select Word Microsoft Setup Assistant appears, asks for feedback, then after selecting okay (both on saying yes or no to feedback) goes on to a registration page. When I click on this it says I've already registered so I just click okay, and then move on to a update page. After this, if I click on Word, the process repeats itself.
As I said, I don't have the disk to reinstall, and can't find the Office Settings to delete as many pages have suggested I should try. Safe Boot restarting also hasn't worked... Really stuck and need Word very soon for work.
If you can help, that would be great, and feel free to ask any questions about the situation as I'm not an expert here.
    Cheers,
    Jack

First, export your contact from iCloud.com and save them on your computer in a safe spot some where (like you desktop).  Use this to help you do this: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3606
Next, on both of your devices, go to Settings > iCloud and turn on contacts and select Merge. Then turn off contacts and select 'Delete form my [device]' when prompted.
Now go back to iCloud.com and select a contact (yes they will all be messed up again) and select Command+A on a Mac or Control+A on a PC to select all of the contacts.  Tap the delete key on your keyboard (or right click /control click a contact and select delete).
You iPhone, iPad and iCloud.com should not be empty for contacts.
Go back to Settings > iCloud on both devices and turn on contacts again (you should not see merge this time).
Next, go back to iCloud.com and import your contacts (those exported .vcards).  You can either drag and drop them into the empty contacts list in your web browser, or you can use the gear icon to import.
You cleaned up contacts should import correctly into iCloud.com and sync to both of your devices.
    Good luck.

  • HT1338 I am trying to setup my external drive, but when I do, I get a box that pops up that says You can't open the application "LaCie Setup Assistant" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported".

When trying to setup my external hard drive, I get this box that pops up and says this:
You can’t open the application “LaCie Setup Assistant” because PowerPC applications are no longer supported.

PowerPC was a type of processor used in Mac systems before Apple switched to Intel-based processors. These older chips required applications to be coded differently, to the extent that they will not run on the Intel processors in newer Macs. Apple used to include a translator that allowed these programs to at least run, but this translator is no longer available so if you run into an older PowerPC-based program then OS X will give you this error.

  • Every time i try to open itunes i get the 'Itunes Setup Assistant'

Every time i try to open itunes i get the 'Itunes Setup Assistant' even though i have already installed and configured itunes. And after exiting this i get onto itunes but all of my music is GONE. (even though i know i can always import it back) But this means that whenever i want to use itunes i have to configure it and import all of my tunes again which takes ageees. The, as soon as i go to open it again i have to repeat the whole process!!! By the way, i have already tried re-installing itunes and every other apple device completely on my computer, but nothing is working!!! ANY HELP WILL BE MASSIVELY APPRECIATED!!! Ps. this only just started happening a week or so ago.

This just started happening to me last week also. After I went through the setup process I could get into my itunes but would get a msg about library not being saved due to user not being an administrator. I went into my program files opened the itunes folder right clicked on the itunes music folder and clicked on "Run as administrator". I haven't had a problem
since. Don't know if this will work for you but I guess it won't hurt. good luck.

  • AirPort Setup Assistant says my Airport Card is "not configured"

I'm trying to install an AirPort Express Base Station that I got for xmas.
I'm using a MacBook Pro 17" with OS X 10.5.1, and my goal with the AirPort Express is to plug it into a stereo to play iTunes wirelessly.
By the way I use AirPort on my MacBook every day, all the time, for internet access through another base station which is plugged into the internet.
Okay, so when I launch the AirPort Setup Assistant and hit the continue button it immediately tells me "AirPort card not configured. In order to use the AirPort Setup Assitant your AirPort card must be enabled and AirPort needs to be turned on and set to use DHCP. Click OK if you would like to change these settings, or Skip if you would like to configure AirPort Base Stations using ethernet."
After I click OK it tells me:
"AirPort card error. There was an error communicating with your AirPort card. Please make sure it is installed properly and try the AirPort Setup Assistant again."
Obviously my AirPort card is working fine, or I wouldn't be able to post on this forum!
When I open Network Preferences I see AirPort is connected to my home network. In the Advanced Settings, on the TCP/IP tab I see that "Configure IPv4" is set to "Using DHCP". And "Configure IPv6" is set to "Automatically" (Not that I have any idea what these two things mean!)
Maybe someone on this forum is much smarter than me with this stuff? Ack!

That solved it! Thank you very much.
Apple, if you're listening, it would be nice if something in the install flow had checked with my OS or something to see if I still needed to install what was on the CD. All I did was open the package (which was purchased in December) and follow directions, and wound up with a problem not covered in the documentation.
Thanks to Tesserax I'm still a happy customer.

  • HT201269 Best Buy started the setup assistant on my new iPhone 5 and now I can't make it sync with iTunes.  How can I reset and start over?

I bought an iPhone 5 at Best Buy, and they started the setup assistant process.  Now I can't go back and start over so I can sync my phone to my iTunes account.  I have an old iPhone 3GS and didn't use the iCloud.  I backed up to my computer.  And now I can't reset my iPhone 5 to sync to my iTunes.
    Help.

I purchased a iPhone 5, and after completing a backup of my old iPhone 3GS, I in error selected Set Up as a New iPhone in the Setup Assistant.
I connected to iTunes and did a Restore iPhone, which set the iPhone5 back to factory defaults, and I was able to restart the Setup Assistant, and following the apple support instructions, restored from my 3GS backup and synced with my iTunes account.  The Restore kept my phone number intact.
I was worried that I would lose the setup of my phone number that was done in the store, but everything worked perfectly.

  • TS4062 After using Setup Assistant, devices no longer appear in iTunes for Wifi Sync

I'm trying to fix an issue that is the result of a bug I disovered, and I'm out of ideas to troubleshoot. I'm hoping you guys will have some more suggestions, perhaps deleting plists or somehow resetting iTunes device syncing so I can start over.
    The bug:
Using Setup Assistant to transfer data over from my other parition which had iTunes configured to sync my devices causes the new partition's iTunes to NOT show devices in iTunes. When I plug my device in, the option to sync over Wifi is still enabled, but unplugging it still doesn't keep the device displayed in iTunes. Unchecking Wifi sync, clicking Apply, checking, clicking Apply and disconnecting results in the same problem - device disappears from iTunes. But if you go to Settings > General > iTunes Wi-Fi Sync, the Sync Now button is not grayed out. Clicking it starts the sync, but it never gets past the "Looking for iMac" stage.
I'm in the process of filing this bug with Apple, but I want to include the steps I've followed to fix the issue so they know.
What I've attempted so far (in this order):
    Quitting and relaunching iTunes
    Restarted my iPad
Then forcing a sync on the iPad via Settings is the same result, endlessly looking for the iMac
So then I opened AirPort Utility, clicked my Time Capsule, then clicked Base Station > Restart. After the Time Capsule restarted and the Wifi was working again, I checked back in iTunes to see if the iPad showed up - it didn't.
So then I turned off Wifi on the iPad, Quit and relaunched iTunes, then enabled Wifi on the iPad and it still didn't appear.
Note that the exact same thing is happening with my iPhone.
    iTunes 11.0.2
    OS X 10.8.3
    iOS 6.1.3
    Thanks guys!

Not even deleting plists, essentially resetting iTunes, solved the problem.
In case anyone has troubles with this and none of the troubleshooting steps worked, here is your last resort, which finally solved the problem for me.
    Use Terminal to delete iTunes:
    cd /Applications/
    sudo rm -rf iTunes.app/
    Download and install iTunes
The iOS devices magically appear in iTunes, without needing to plug in via USB to enable Wifi sync.

  • I am a OS10.7.4 user. yesterday i bought a Lacie external hard disk but error message appear said " You cant open the applicant LaCie setup assistant because PowerPC applicants are no longer support". please help me how to connect my mac with Lacie??

i am a OS10.7.4 user. yesterday i bought a Lacie external hard disk but error message appear said " You cant open the applicant LaCie setup assistant because PowerPC applicants are no longer support". please help me how to connect my mac with Lacie??

You do not need the Setup Assistant; in fact, you do not need any software on an external hard drive. I have two LaCie's; I erased the drive as soon as I plugged it in. You will need to format it anyway because most hard drives come Windows formatted. So, if you only want to use it with the Mac, highlight it in Disk Utility and choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) as the format and the GUID Partition scheme under Options. While doing that, it will erase the drive (and get rid of the LaCie software) - once finished, your drive is ready to use for Time Machine or any other backup plans you have for it.

  • HP Color LaserJet 2840 -- reinstalling driver -- HP Setup Assistant failing

Hello! Any tips on how to get my MacBook Pro to identify my HP Color LaserJet 2840 printer? I'm trying to reinstall the driver, but in the HP Setup Assistant, the printer doesn't show up.
I tested the same printer and USB cable on my older iBook, and everything works just fine. The printer is an all-in-one device, and it works just fine as a standalone copier.
On my MacBook, everything worked great two days ago, but I tried to print today and got a message "printer not responding" in the print queue. I tried to troubleshoot to no avail:
-- Turned printer and computer off an on several times.
-- Ran disk warrior, rebuilt directories and repaired permissions. Still notta.
-- Then uninstalled the HP 2840 print driver, downloaded new ones, tried to reinstall, but the printer isn't showing up in the HP Setup Assistant.
-- In Printer Setup Utility, ran Reset Printing System.
-- Again tried to run HP Setup Assistant, but still the printer isn't showing up in the list for installation.
Any tips would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Hi BDAqua -- Thanks for the tip. Should have thought of that. Apparently my USB ports aren't working. Tested a memory stick and my iPod, and neither device shows up on the desktop. My firewire does seem to work -- just backed up everything on an external hard drive.
The profiler shows these USB devices:
-- USB Bus / IR Receiver
    -- USB Bus
-- USB Bus / Bluetooth Host Controller
    -- USB Bus / Apple Internal Keyboard/Trackpad
    -- USB High-Speed Bus
Thanks again. My next step is to call AppleCare.

  • Where can I download Airport Express (11g) Setup Assistant for Windows 7?

My AEx (11g) has stopped connecting.
On my PC, the AEx Setup Assistant  and Utility have disappeared - I need to download these for this old 11g AEx.
I run Optus cable <-> Optus modem <-> Linksys wireless modem <-> Windows 7 PC.
I use AEx to play iTunes music on a remote system.
thank you in advance for any help
    regards
    Chris

This is what appears for me when I click the link above in my post.
It works fine on 3 wireless devices that I just tested. You might want to restart your computer, or maybe check the Firewall settings on the PC.  If you are using Microsoft Security Essentials, it may be blocking the connection.
Not sure what else to suggest. Maybe try the raw address:   http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1547

I have a HP Photosmart C4795.  I have a new wireless network that I am trying to add my printer to.  I have updated my operating system (Apple 10.9.4 Maverick) and reloaded the printer software.  I  tried to run  the HP Setup Assistant to configure the printer for the new wireless network.  I got an error message "The HP Setup Assistant quit unexpectedly."  I have tried to reboot the router, device and computer.  I verified that I have all updates to the operating system.  I continue to get the error message.
Any suggestions?  Thank you for the help.

Hi there Griff, welcome to the forums!
I understand you are seeing an error when trying to install the printer software. I have some steps to suggest that might help you.
    Try these steps:
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart your Mac
There is no full driver and software available for 10.9, please follow these instructions to install your Photosmart C4795 on Mavericks: HP Printers - Installing a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update
