Intersite topology generation disabled

I noticed when using the Active Directory Topology Diagrammer that all my sites have both Intrasite and Intersite topology generation disabled. I was under the impression that the KCC will not create connections with this disabled but all of my replication
connections are automatically generated.
How is this possible?
Is there any advantage to enable Inter and Intra site topology generation?
Thank youm
Kenny

Kenny,
You are correct that with both the Intrasite and Intersite topology generation disabled, the KCC will not create connection objects.  I suspect what happened is that it was turned on at one point where the KCC created the connection objects and once
it was turned off they were never deleted as the KCC handles that function also.  Not on = no deletion of the objects.
I have also seen where an admin has actually renamed a manual connection object to <automatically generated> which was doable, although I believe this "feature" has since been removed in later version of the OS.  You may want to investigate
that.
I strongly recommend that you turn on the topology generator and let it do its thing automatically.  You cannot out do the KCC here.  To reiterate Mr X's recommendation, please read:

Hope this helps.

Hey I have an iPad 1st Generation which is disabled,
I have read that the iPad needs to be plugged into the last computer it was synced with however the last computer got a virus and won't turn on is there any other way for me to unlock the iPad?
    Cheers

It needs to be connected to a computer to unlock it, you just won't be able to resync your content to the iPad if it's not on that computer. And you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

  • Problem with Report Generation in TestStand 3.0

While using On-the-Fly Test Report Generation capabilities in TestStand 3.0, the PC become very sluggish and occasionally there are error messages containing an error code of -17000 and the statment, "Out of Memory". The error dialog usually appears while attempting to run the "reportgen_html.seq" file. Do you have any suggestions as to how we may correct this problem?

    Hi
The test which you trying to run could potentially be leaking memory. I would suggest that you do the following.
    1. Run the tests without report generation and result collection. Monitor the memory usage of your test using either taskinfo2000 or PerfMon and monitor your application.
To turn off result collection go the configure-> station options-> general tab -> Check disable result recording for all Sequences.
To turn off report generation -> configure-> report options-> and check disable report generation
If you tests still give a out of memory error then potentially the tests are leaking memory. Also if you see an increase in memory usage when running your tests then you could potentially be leaking memory in the tests
    If your application
does not give errors then I would turn on result collection and keep report generation disabled and check if you get errors.
If you get memory errors then you just might need more RAM to store all the results.
If you still do not get any errors then I would turn on report generation and result collection and set the report to txt. If you still do not get any errors.
If you get errors then you might just need more memory to generate the report and display it.
    I hope this help

  • The difference between VTP server and transparent mode on Catalyst Switch.

    Hello
I have a question about the difference between VTP server mode and VTP transparent mode on general catalyst switch.
Basically VTP server mode can create and modify VLAN configuration but  actually there is not any VLAN configuration through running-config, is it true?  When I checked it on Cat3550, certainly there is not VLAN configuration on VTP server mode. But VTP transparent can create VLAN and configuration but does not synchronize with other switch VLAN status. I appreciate any related information and reason of the VTP server mode specification, thank you very much.

  • HTML Templates in integrated ITS

    Hi,
I am using certain ITS services in integrated ITS. However, their look and feel is like WebGUI. For two of the services, there are HTML templates defined but still their look and feel is like WebGUI. If I do not definr ~GENERATEDYNPRO = 1, then I get an internal error. If I use this parameter, then the look and feel is SAP like.
    Any pointers?
    Thank you.
    Abhijeet.

    Hi abhijeet,
    Set by Service file
    ~ generateDynpro = 0 -Automatic screen generation
                          disabled.
                       1 -Automatic screen generation
                          enabled.
can you re-publish service again on your ITS and re-start ITS server and test this.
    Please share the result.
    Thnx,

  • User creation in portal

    HI,
Can we change the registration flow in the portal, so that a mail is sent to the email address and only when the user clicks on the link in the mail, the user account becomes active. Until the user clicks on the link and activates his account the user account should not be active.
Can we implement this in SAP EP?

    Hi,
You could do it via the UME API, but you would have to code it yourself.
You could create the user via the admin functionality (but with the standard email generation disabled for user creation) , and manually lock it, or create the user via a custom WebDynpro or JSP front end that users the UME API to create and lock the user.
Then use a mail API to generate the email with a URL to a servlet running on the Portal server, which extracts an id of the user from the URL (either the username in unencoded form which is a bit dodgy, or using some unique number that you store against the user to be activated to associate the two) and again use the UME API to unlock the user.
Should be fairly straightforward providing you are confident with:
    1 - Deploying a web application to J2EE engine containing a servlet.
2 - Can figure out how to use the UME API
3 - Can use a mail API like Javamail, which is straightforward
    Cheers,
    Steve

    Hello,
I am getting the same errors as above. I wrote my code on a windows xp box and then am trying to deploy it to one of our Linux test servers. When it deploys, I get this error above.
Yes I have some jsp pages that have afh:cellFormat on them. Is this what is causing the error or is there two problems going on.
I was think that the Linux server is missing a font.
Any help would be great. Thanks

  • Servers showing up multiple times in Sites and Services

I happened to catch something odd this morning while looking into another issue.  When i open our domains Sites and Services and click on one of our 4 corporate DC's (3vm's one physical one of them being tested in production with server 2012 R2).
I'm seeing that a few of our servers in remote locations are showing up multiple times.  However when I go to this server and click on who it's replicating with it's only showing one server and sometimes not even the same one as the corporate server.
Here is a screen shot I took.
The red's are all the same server (sorry boss has mandated we aren't allowed to put out the names for some reason).  I'm a little confused as to what could be causing this.  Anyone have any ideas?

Without better/more screenshots, it a bit hard to tell what you are seeing. However, in your statement
"...I'm seeing that a few of our servers in remote locations are showing up multiple
times.  However when I go to this server and click on who it's replicating with it's only showing one server and sometimes not even the same one as the corporate server."
Replication is one-way connections and are always a PULL scenario. So for instance if
COR-DC-03 is replicating from COR-DC-01, the replication link will only be on COR-DC-03. COR-DC-01 may or may not replicate from 03. It may actually be replicating from another DC. Also, the AD ISTG (intersite topology generator) will always try to find the
most efficient replication and ensure that each DC has at least 2 replication partners, and there is no more than 4 hops to another DC. You have a number of sites and I assume there are DCs in there as well. All of those DCs need to replicate with one another.
Perhaps if you can draw or otherwise illustrate the issue you are seeing that would help.

  • AD Sites Question

    Hello
We have 13 sites for a single domain implementation and we are planning to reduce them
    I have found that Site 3 and Site 4 can be merged into 1 ( site 3 into site 4, so no site3 ) = I have validated bandwidth b/w 2 sites and its excellent ( 10MB).
Site links exist between site 3, Site 4 and Site 5
    Site link x = site 3, site 4
    Site link y = site 4, site 5
end goal is to remove site link x and have site link y
Site 3 has 3 subnets and 2 Domain controllers for clients to authenticate , when consolidating / merging below are the possible options
    1) move 3 subnets to Site 4  : AFAIK , this would not impact existing client authentication / applications dependent on AD because once the subnets are moved, KCC will re-generate intra-site topology and intersite topology ( recalculate process
) and may assign or use existing ISTG
    2) change Member servers ip address and DC ip address of site 3 to site 4 : once we change the IP address of DC to Site4 subnet, recalculate will re-create the topology - same as point 1 , no changes to replication / client affinity
calculate the site link cost and assign
    3) Delete Domain controllers in site 3 and point clients to site 4: this would not have any replication impact but client authentication should be validated against the bandwidth
please advise if my understanding is correct
    reference links i follow

    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/224815?wa=wsignin1.0

    Hi,
    3) is bad as if you want to "delete" the DCs you have to demote them first le replication complete, then remove the object from AD sites & services.
If you consolidate sites you move the 3 subnets and the DCs (DC IPs belong to the subnets you moved) to the destination site (4), then once replicated you can delete the site 3, KCC will build automatically ntds connections with any replication partners
    in site 5.
    Maybe others have better suggestions.
    Hope it helps.

    Calin

  • 3650 PVLAN Config

    hi all,
i'm trying to configure a few 3650s for PVLAN but it seems it doesn't support it.
it's already configured for VTP transparent mode.
i thought 'newer' switches should already have this feature.
anyone can advise if i need to upgrade IOS or is it a platform restriction?
or is there some command that i need to enable on this kind of switch?

  • 2008 R2 Replication Problem

Over the weekend I had to replace one of our 43 domain controllers. Pretty standard practice of demoting the old one, waiting for replication and so on.
For the second time in a month I noticed a problem. The DC I demoted was one of two in a site. I demoted it and the other DC in the site saw the demotion. However it never replicated to anywhere else, even after 2.5 hours. (We have 15 minute replication).
I looked and the remaining DC has a replication setup (auto generated) to one of the servers in our main site and it would not replicate even when I selected to replicate now.
I saw this a few weeks ago when I replaced a DC in the main site, the other four in the site saw the change but the replication never left the site for 3 hours in that case.
I ran commands to check replication and all seemed fine.
I never have a problem when I demote the only DC in a site, it replicates out right away to all DCs, only sites that have more than one DC have a significant delay or don't replicate at all.
Does anyone know things to look for when all the replication tools show no problems but something like this happens?

If you look at the DCs in that site, you see connection objects where those DCs replicate FROM another site, that doesn't mean that dose connection objects are used to replicate changes OUT of the site. For this connection objects are setup on other DCs
that replicates FROM the effected site, it is _those_ connection objects that need to be adjusted, and that takes place when the current ones have been detected as stale.
Even if there is multiple replication paths it doesn't mean they are all used.
    I recommend the following reading:

You need to enable VTP V3 on all the switches. If one of your switch is VTPV1 capable only, it will not able to inter-operate with VTP V3.
Please look at these guidelines for 2960.
