Intolerable policy on firmware updates by Nokia

I've bought my phone from a website shop (language FI).
However the add stated the language would be english only. It was a false statement. It should have said Mid-European language pack.
Anyhow the policy of asking people to update firmware as the new versions are released quite often is something different.
Since I wanted to have Scandinavian language pack and T9-vocabularly as well, I asked for an online service for the language pack. No such thing within Software updater.
Instead Nokia suggests to go to nearest Care Center to change the languages, which will inevidently become reset to the default after firmware update depending on where the device was orginally manufactured for.
There is a service fee on the language pack change and selfswap would influence the guarentee. I wonder how the manufacturer would pleed, if this matter were taken into the EU Comissions free trade board. I got my phone shipped within the EU.
If I go to the same Care Center to update the language pack again after doing what Nokia promotes - updating the firmware - I'm very much in doubt, that the Care Center will load the languages again for free.

Not quite.
According to the discussions on this board the true nature of changing languages on a phone has not been revieled to customers in advance. That is what the issue here is.
The Brits have not changed to EUCU, yet UK is a member. There are some things that are and some, that seems. This is among those that seem, but ain't.

    I tried updating my nokia 5800 today when the new firmware was released. i have already updated my other phone including another 5800. But when I updated the firmware of another 5800 (my 5800 through nokia software updater from pc/laptop), after the nokia updater application said that the update was successful, my phone showed the nokia logo with the new firmware version. It's supposed to reboot automatically and continue as normal but after waiting for like 15 minutes, my phone's still not turning on and still showed on the screen that the phone was not connected. That's when I unplugged it off from the USB cable and tried to turn it on, but it will just vibrate for a few seconds and then nothing! It won't turn on or work! I've tried to search on how to fix this problem but to no avail.. please help me.. is my phone going to work again?

    Hello All,
    It looks like new firmware update is available for Nokia N95 basic model .
    Earlier Version of Firmware was : 30.0.015
    Now the latest available Firmware was : 31.0.014
    When i connected my N95 to PC using PC-Suite, it notified me about this. But when i searched the internet for change log , i found none. Is it right firmware , why Nokia didn't disclose change log, which it used to do it earlier ???
    I will wait for 2 more days for official communication from Nokia....

    Ok, so no one wants to install this firmware because theyre affraid they loose their freedom?
    Somebody should shine a light on this FW, or nokia has
    done a lot of work for nothing!

  • Firmware Update on Nokia 5800

    Hello, I am having problems with updating the software on my device. After the Update starts with no problems, the phone flashes a few times, and then the update says that the phone connection has been lost, and I need to reset my phone and reconnect it. After I did all of those I pressed retry and got the same error after a few seconds. I have a phone security code (lock code) on it, and it blocks it after 5 minutes. I tried it without the code and got the same thing. I really don't know what to do.
    My Nokia 5800 Code is 0577300.
    P.S.. When I try to update wireless (at a hot spot) the phone tells me that are no updates available. I checked online, on the Nokia website and it says that there is an update available (51.0.).
    If somebody has the solution please help, I am out of ideas. Thank you.

    Are you utilizing OVI suite v2.2.0.245 or standalone application such as:http://nds2.betalabs.nokia.com/NokiaSoftwareUpdater/NokiaSoftwareUpdater3Setup_EN.exe
    Have you noticed after downloading the firmware update to PC it starts saying 15 minutes and in your case it never proceeds before error message appears? It is at this point that NSU application disconnects from PC Suite mode(audible Windows USB sounds) and should then see something about BB5 ADSL loader which seems to be the point at which it fails for you.

    can someone help me on this. i have the nokia E5-00. when i am going for a software update, its showing a result as no latest updates available. but when i searched the latest update available for my product via product code, there is an update. my software version is: 042.010 latest available update: 042.021 or even higher, i have no clue. Can sum one help me on this, i want the latest update for my nokia E5-00. i am from india...does the region matter...????

    the new version of firmware .014 has intermediately fixed the switched off issue but still happens , but the phone is still very slow, a hard reset and a firmware update both have not fixed it, nokia is acting like a sleepy cow ,waiting to be put out of business while other mobile o/s companies comes up with updates for any issues with there phones ,nokia likes to have people waiting frustrated , shame on them.
    From my initiate analysis I believe nokia is not able to successful manufacture phones with 600 much arm 11 processors there phones come with a bundle of glitches.and defects

    jjegen seems to have differently than I. From what I see, tapping on the dialler and contacts on homescreen does nothing?
    Your phone settings have had trouble. I would suggest restoring factory settings.
    Go to MainMenu>green button>you will see the dialler. Type in *#7780# and enter your security code.
    If that does not work:
    Soft reset is *#7370# - this deletes all data on phone memory so make sure you have a backup.
    OR
    A hard reset (x6, 5800 and 5230 only) is done by the following (warning, this deletes all data on your phone):
    1.) Turn off the phone and remove battery for 5min
    2.) Reinsert battery
    3.) Press and hold the green, red and camera buttons. DO NOT LET GO.
    4.) While holding the three buttons, press the power key to boot the phone up.
    5.) Keep on pressing until you see the country selection screen.
    A correctly done hard reset would show you that everything on the phone (contacts, messages, calendar entries, etc) would be deleted. So it is advisable to back them up. Upon restoration, do not restore settings or files if possible.

    I cannot install the recent firmware update on my mobile. Everytime I start the update, nothing happens.No error or hang.
    To add to this - mail for exchange is not synchronizing emails. If you select "Synchronize email" option, nothing happens. No error or hang.
    Help please....

    no error or downloading forever.
    For me when i start yhe update it says processing for about 10 seconds then dissapears & nothing happens.

    Not certain at all but since release upon 021.024 there have been updates 022.007, 023.002, 031.023, 051.018, 052.005, 053.001, 071.004 and latest 081.003 which is considerably more support than most devices receive in their lifespan!

  • Next Firmware Update For Nokia 6303 classic Featur...

    A. Software features should be Hardware based not to Nokia Legacy as if 3.2 Megapixels Camera works like 6233's 2 Megapixels camera. In Nokia 5800 camera is just 3.2 Megapixels but the capabilities are fine, if Nokia has no logic to upgrade the Software for its legacy then why do Nokia has to upgrade the Hardware in Legacy Nokia Operating System? Like in case of 6303.
    B. Video Editor should be there in new update. A nice feature for creativity.
    C. .mp4 should be supported by the Recording Video Option and should be 640x480 @30fps. Why not if 6303 can play .mp4 but would not record, is there any logic even the Camera CMOS is 3.2 Megapixels?
    D. Lights Effect is a very good feature of 6303 and in my opinion it would be updated as another possibility to select it as Breather Light Effect such as Nokia 5800 XM, due to Silent Profile activated Handset Location assistance facility. User can find the set easily rather making a miss call to find out where the set is?
    E. 15 fps is not sufficient to play smoothly in PC or convert the Movie in any Application to play it in SETTOP Box or General DVD Players. it should be @30 fps to play in PC or after convertion in DVD player.
    F. Photo Editor should be included in Next Update as its not a justification to the Hardware rendered Engine limited by Firmware to edit the Photo and you get the jeggy .png. is not a joke performed in 6303?
    G. SMS writing Window space should be enhanced to accomodate the full Text Window so that a user can review easily in one Window operation not by scrolling again and again as now available in 6303.
    H. Display Brightness feature should be added to facilitate the user choice as the Hardware is supported in 6303's 16.7 M color LCD.
    I. 3D Ringing tone effects should be added and the Volume of Startup Tone should be increased to its optimal, in recent Firmware it is very low.
    J. SMS alert tone selection plays the tone in Level one Sound volume though the selected level is Five bar. it should be corrected in Future update.
    K. Smart selection of To (address field) in Messaging by converting the Input as Numeric for Text Message and Alphanumeric for MMS. In recent Firmware it is Alphanumeric by default for SMS as well as MMS, which is annoying for SMS Sending.
    L. Messages save in Memory Card or Phone Memory, option should be added.
    M. It would be a bonus if .wmv .dvx .mov video formats are supported by next firmware in both situations like Recording option and Playing formats support.
    Kindly notice NOKIA:
    that by performing all above mentioned enhancements for 6303 classic, The 6303 classic would not become an N series or Touch considered Handset but it would justify its Hardware Capabilities selected by its manufacturer.
    Its better to be legacy oriented NOKIA but the NOKIA OS legacy should be parallel with latest trends and Hardware based.
    Its a good time to make better decisions towards connecting people with Modern Communications.

    Isn't this the same as setting "light Effects=On" in the settings? Mine "breathes" away happily after a missed call.

    Where are you adjusting this? I can only adjust ringtone volume not SMS alert tones....

    The 3650 currently is NOT supported via the Nokia Software Updater - this means you will have to approach your local Nokia Service Centre to get it updated - they will also have further information regarding whether or not there is a new version of firmware available.

  • Firmware update v21 Nokia 5800

    I've got a problem. After updating my Blue Nokia 5800 to the newest v21 firmware my default theme changed to a red one. I suppose that it happened because my phone is treated like a red nokia 5800. For mroe information i can say that my phone is signed in NSU as Nokia 5800 xpress music RM-356 ( on the picture there is a red nokia 5800) and it was bought in Poland Plus ( Polkomtel ). Any suggestions what could i do to install the blue nokia firmware?

    Okay, I have the CS-10, and after installing it on Windows XP it tells me the firmware version is 3.37.734.40. Because I see people on this board talking about firmware version 3.8 I wanted to upgrade, but the currently available download on the Nokia support pages is for "upgrading" to version 2.10.
    So how do I upgrade to 3.8??

    Hi Nicole,
    the version you are mentioning is the PC SW Version number. The main package has the 2.x numbering.
    So with SW update 2.10 you have also the latest PC SW firmware.
    Using hyperterminal and typing ATI you can get the main version (firmware / PC SW) info from your stick

  • Request: full Bulgarian firmware update for Nokia ...

    Hello!
    I don't know if I am entitled to making such a request and whether this is the right place, but I do not know who to turn to.
    A month ago I bought myself a brand new E72. To my bitter disappointment the current firmware contains no option to write in my own language and has only English keyboard layout despite the presence of a Bulgarian interface. I contacted Nokia Bulgaria regarding this matter and they told me that at the moment one cannot be graced by the possibility to write in Bulgarian.
    That's why I'm writing here, hoping that there are some developpers reading the forums. Could you please including a BG keyboard as soon as possible along with the currently present BG interface? I know Nokia E71 has long had both and they are quite similar. After all, the E72 is a qwerty phone and right now I have no use of this keyboard. 
    I am hoping the matter will be quickly resolved as I know I represent many people in Bulgaria's wishes regarding this particular problem.

    Well you could try to search for a font pack with bulgarian. There is a font pack with that somewhere buried in the s60v5 apps section of forum.dailymobile.se, however you should read first before you install. Some people are having trouble with it because they did not read first.
    You should install the font pack onto the memory card while the memory card is disconnected from the phone, and is connected to a PC via card reader.

    Nokia just came up with Symbian Anna. Would it be legitimate to expect any low-hardware-supported version for Nokia X6-00, in the near future. I simply dont expect that Nokia obsoletes the other S60v5 Phones, just in the race to gain momentum and scalp up Windows. I still am an ardent fan of Nokia and own a Nokia X6, would love to have new software updates on it.
