Intra-Controller roaming and AP Groups

WiSM 2 controllers running 7.3.101.0
All controllers have the same subnets/dynamic interfaces/WLAN
All controllers in same mobility group.
Controller1
AP1 has APGROUP1 applied
APGROUP1 has SSID1 mapped to DynintVLAN1
Controller2
AP2 has APGROUP2 applied
APGROUP2 has SSID1 mapped to DynIntVLAN2
Client associates to AP1 and gets IP from DynintVLAN1
Client roams to AP2.  Keeps IP address but connectivity stops.
Client shows in Controller 1 to be Anchored to Controller 1
Client shows in Controller 2 to be mobile client and mapped to Controller 1 but interface shows as DynintVLAN2
My understanding with this configuration is that the client should stay connected via mobility to Controller 1 but it seems to stay authenticated but looses connectivity.
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I checked eping and mping between these controllers and no problem
When roamed to controller 2 I even tried a dhcp release and renew and that worked!  I got my same IP address so I think the mobility parts are working since I was able to get back to the original VLAN.  I just cant ping my gateway or off network.
After the roam here are the "sh client detail"

  • Intra controller roaming and Security

    Hi all,
Under  the section intra controller roaming, WLC 7.0 config guide states that " When the wireless client moves its association  from one access point to  another, the controller simply updates the  client database with the  newly associated access point. If necessary,  new security context and  associations are established as well"
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.0/configuration/guide/c70mobil.html
Within the phrase "If necessary,  new security context and  associations are established as well" . Could someone elaborate on what is meant by the  new security context ? My understanding is that only an update to the  MSCB (with the AP info) is the only requirement as the client is within the same controller and subnet.I just can't think why would the security info needs to be updated.
    Thanks in advance.
    J

Well if during the roam the users session times out or a re-keying occurs the information has to be passed to the WLC. The AP does all the encrypt/decrypt if using encryption. This doesn't happen if your using open.

  • L3 intra-controller roam

    Hi folks,
I fully understand how Layer 2/3 roam function and role of EoIP in an inter-controller enviornment.L2 intra-controller roaming also pretty straightforward.
However, L3 intra-controller roaming is not very clear to me.Could someone throw some light on the matter pls? Also if you could point me to to a Cisco doco that would be great.
    Thanks,
    J

    Janesh,
Correct, the client does not need to refresh it's IP, or get a new one.
The configuration guide and the mobility FAQ should speak to this.  As for the mechanism.  When you are roaming inside the same WLC it knows that the client hasn't moved off of it, so it just updates the MSCB entry and the client rolls along.
Now if you roam from WLC-A to WLC-B, the WLC looks at the interface name, and ip address assigned to that interface.  If the subnets match, the MSCB entry from WLC-A is moved to WLC-B.  The traffic for the client will ingress and egress on WLC-B.  This is a Layer 2 roam.
Now the client roams from WLC-A to WLC-B, the WLC looks at the interface name, and ip address assigned to that interface.  The subnets do not, WLC-A copies the MSCB entry to WLC-B, then they pass the client traffic between them for the client.  The traffic will ingress on WLC-A, be sent accross the mobility tunnel to WLC-B, and then to the client.  The inverse is true for traffic from the client.  It flows from the client to WLC-B, across the mobility tunnel to WLC-A, and then egress to the network there.  This is a Layer 3 roam.

  • WiSM redundancy, mobility groups and RF groups

    Hi there
we would like to implement the following:
    - Support for about 2000 LAP's
    - 1 x Catalyst 6509
    - 1 x Sup 720
    - 7 x WiSM's
What I'm interesting is are the following points:
    1. I thought that we would build the switch completly redudant, so we have to wlan switches (switch A and B) with 7 WiSM's eatch. So I can garanty a N+N redundancy --> each LAP's has a primary controller on switch A and it's secondary controller on switch B. The LAP's can be splitted on the two switches, but for your understanding there is a 1:1 redundancy. What do you think of this design, is the too much or is this appropriate?
    2. As I know you can build up a mobility group of a maximum of 24 controllers or 12 WiSM's. I would put only these controllers in a mobility group, where Layer 2 roaming can occure.
    3. But what is about the RF groups - there is a maximum of 1000 LAP's, so I can put only 3 WiSM's in one group. But this would not work form me, then I would have 2 WiSM's on switch A and only 1 WiSM on switch B in a RF group (not a 1:1 redundancy). First is it possible to put WiSM-A and WiSM-B into different RF groups, I think so because they are logically splitted, aren't they?
And what RF group design would be best (just as a reference)? I thought that it would make sense to form a RF group for each of the seven pairs (1 WiSM on switch A and 1 WiSM on switch B) for redundancy? What do you think of that approach?
    4. So I would have 1 mobility group and 7 RF groups. Or do you recommend to form the mobility groups like the RF groups? But what happens with Layer 2 roaming in that case?
I'm sorry for the long and messy text, but I hope you can see my design questions?
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Dominic

It sounds like you already have some good replies. Personally I like N+1 redundancy, but that is a designers choice. One thing I should point out is that the 6500 can only support 5 WiSM cards each. In this case a 4 WiSM x 3 chassis option would give your more spare capacity with only 12 total cards. The lower WiSM cost (12 vs 14) would help offset the cost of the extra chassis. You could also support 2400 APs with 8 WiSM cards even if one switch is down.
Not too long ago Cisco added the ability to set the priority of APs so your critical ones would join a controller and the less critical ones would go down if a controller failed and there were no redundancy. That is something to keep in mind when designing wireless. You may not need redundancy for all APs and that could affect your design and costs.

  • WLC 5508 and mobility groups

    Hi,
We are using 2 WLC 5508 running 7.0.98.0 sw (AP's are 1142) at our primary site. They are hosting 3 different WLAN/SSID's, one for guest and the
other 2 are for corporate access. We have put the WLC's in a mobility group, say "AAAA".
Now we have the need for our UK peer site to publish a corp WLAN that exists in UK - at our site, and when trying to configure for that (following the c70cg.pdf) - I put the WLC's for UK in a new mobility group, say "BBBB". But i can't add our WLC's into that mobilty group
(i get a duplicate mac address message).
What's the correct way of configuring this, does all WLCs need to be in the same mobility group?
Is there some reason why we can't have 2 mobility groups? Is there any upside/downside to configuring 2 mob. groups?
Any clearification would be greatly appreciated
    BR
    //Mikael

I think you are misunderstanding , so far what you did on your local swedish site is correct. Your two swedish WLCs have to be in their own same mobility group so you can give seamless roaming to your wireless users across your swedish area without interruption.
On a WLC mobility group config page, you can have only one entry  per WLC, this is why you are getting the duplicate error message.
WEBGUI - CONTROLLER - MOBILITY MANAGEMENT - MOBILITY GROUPS
If you want to put your 4 WLCs so they exchange mobility messages, the following has to happen on all 4 WLCs.
    xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx  192.168.1.1  uk
    yy:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy 192.168.1.2 uk
    zz:zz:zz:zz:zz:zz  172.17.1.1  sweden
    aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa  172.17.1.2  sweden
Note when you add WLC on the mobility section, the WLC start sending messages to each like, hey i have this client and you have that client and so on. But this has nothing to do with what you are trying to achieve.
With regards to the execs that are coming, yes, replicate the SSID and point it to the Radius Server they have in UK, add your swedish WLC(s) as a NAS on the Radius Server and it should work as if they were in UK. that should be enough and i advise you to do the following for mobility groups config.
    on the two UK WLCs
    xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx  192.168.1.1  uk
    yy:yy:yy:yy:yy:yy 192.168.1.2 uk
    on the two Swedish WLCs
    zz:zz:zz:zz:zz:zz  172.17.1.1  sweden
    aa:aa:aa:aa:aa:aa  172.17.1.2  sweden
hope i cleared it out for you. greeting from cold Belgium tonight :-) and hope the execs will enjoy Sweden!

  • Roaming between Flexconnect groups for scaling

I have a customer that needs flexconnect at each of his 10 locations to access local servers and printers. The customer has a pair of 5508 WLCs running 7.6.130.0.
While the customer currently has 25 and under AP count per site, they are considering an expansion to 50 - 60 per site.
We are considering the mobility agent on 3650/3850/4500 switches, but the multi-hop restriction will drive the cost too high.
What is the downside for defining multiple flexconnect groups per site?
The customer is also considering Unified Communications. For example, would the voice RTP stream on a wireless IP phone roaming between APs on different flexconnect groups appear to be seamless?

If you plan on utilizing any real-time applications such as voice, you would not want these devices to be roaming between FlexConnect Groups.  There will be a full re-authentication of the client; with the exception of OKC capable machines, which "may" roam more cleanly.  This means some standard data clients may perform a fast roam, or at least not notice much of a hiccup even with a full re-auth.
In either scenario, you would want to make sure this is NOT a L3 mobility roam (ie. FlexConnect WLAN/VLAN mapping to different networks).  This will cause major problems for all your clients as they will most likely end up talking on the new VLAN with their old IP address.

  • How do I restore my tabs and tab groups after an update to version 36.0?

I work with many tabs when I use Firefox. I keep them ordered in Tab Groups, which helps separate the different kids of work I do and interests I have. I have been using this environment for years. When I started my work today, Firefox updated to v36.0, and the following behaviour was noticed:
    1. There is only one tab group when attempting to show Tab Groups in Panorama, as opposed to around a dozen;
    2. Normally though the hidden tabs (the tabs in the same group as the startup group and not the default page) don't download content until clicked, the name of the page and icon, if available, will show on the tab. Presently, the tabs show "New Tab" and no icon. There appears, however, to be the number of tabs that exist across all Tab Groups but now are ghosts this one, default Tab Group. I'd have to add, though, I don't count the number of tabs, so I can't be exactly sure. When clicked, there is just a blank page. So it is odd that Firefox knows they are there but cannot simply attach the address to it.
I have tried to restore the following files from my Windows Home Server backup to the AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<gobbletygook>.default folder:
    1. In the sessionstore-backups folder, I replaced the previous.js, recovery.bak and recovery.js files (not any of the upgrade~) with files from yesterday and from two days before.
When that didn't do anything, I replaced
    2. sessionCheckpoints.json
I didn't see any file with a recent date that appeared to be one that I should restore. I should add that I do see hidden files. I thought about restoring the whole lot, but wasn't sure how this would affect the program on v36.0 and the profile files on 35.0.1.
I have deadlines this week and need to immediately restore my environment in order to make those deadlines. I have no list of addresses to my Web pages to work in IE or other. Any help would be very much appreciated.
On a second note, I had been wondering recently whether this tab group environment is a suitable way to maintain my work environment. Occasionally, when opening Panorama, I would get an error saying a script is taking too long, but if I clicked Continue, it would display the groups in a few seconds. I had considered putting all of it in Bookmarks though it would be tedious and more difficult to access and open multiple tabs. In the beginning, I tried Tab Groups thinking it was a simple matter of maintaining a table of addresses (in tabs) with a tab group ID or name. How could that go wrong? Well, it has, so it is obviously more complicated than that, and I didn't realise that upgrades would affect personal data. Should I abondon using tab groups?

With the help of information from user, ptressel, in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1032154#answer-673322 a post here about the existence of sessionstore.js when version 33 was released], I was able to easily recover my tabs and tab groups as follows:
    # close Firefox and, perhaps, allow a few seconds (30s?) for any final closing of files;
    # check to see if you have a sessionstore.js file in your profile folder, named like the one I documented in my original post above;
    # if it is not timestamped prior to the discovery of your problem, open the sessionstore-backups folder;
    # check if the recovery.js file is suitably timestamped and, if not, the recovery.bak.
    # At this point, you are likely to find that none of them are prior to your problem occuring. If so, open your backups of this folder and go through steps 2-4 to find a file prior to your problem occuring.
    # When you find a file, copy it to the root of your current profile folder and name it, "sessionstore.js"
    # Open Firefox. Mine opened up as desired.
This is a Windows solution. Sorry I can't comment on other platforms, but I'd bet that as this is just a file copy and renaming, it is likely the same.
For Windows users, you may find you need to sign out and login as an administrator in order to access the backups. You need not logoff your standard account, but do have Firefox closed as described above.
    Hope that helps.

  • International Roaming and Whats it all about.

Roaming and what’s it about?Roaming is when you are no longer able to Pick Up your home Network (O2-UK). This is normally when you are in another country. However it is possible to pick up French Network when in UK and the Irish Networks when you’re still in Northern Ireland.  But if you phone is displaying anything else beside O2-UK or BT Cellnet (On Some Older Phones), then you are Roaming on a Foreign Network and Roaming Charges will apply if Services are used. Is O2-IE the same as O2-UK?Answer is no. O2-IE is a completely independent business to O2-UK and therefore Roaming Charges would apply.O2-IE (O2 Ireland) and O2-UK (O2 United Kingdom) are both Part of the Telefonica Group, but this is all and is 2 Separate businesses  Do I need to Activate Roaming? If you are an O2 PAYG Customer then Roaming is activated automatically as you can only spend what you have in Credit.O2 Contract customers may need to call 202 to confirm they have Roaming Activated on their account if they have never used the service before or had issues in the past.  How does Roaming Work? When you travel outside your Home Network, your Mobile Phone Sim will ask the Roaming (Foreign) network first if it can use the services on their Network. (You IMEI number of your phone is also sent to verify it’s not the Stolen / Missing Database as well) The Foreign Network will take details from your Sim card and go back to the International Centre and check if O2 has an agreement first to use the Network and then if the Sim card is activated to use the Roaming. (This is why there is a delay sometimes in first switching on your mobile to you getting a signal and a Network Name) If all comes back ok, then the Sim will receive instruction and you notice the Roaming Network Name shown on your phone. What you may not know is that when the phone is authorised to use the Roaming Network, It is given a temporary allocated foreign number of the country you are visiting. So you may have someone calling you and they may notice that the Ring tone suddenly sounds different in their Earpiece and not like the UK Ring. This is because of the Foreign Number allocated and that you are roaming on their Countries Network. One this you will never know though is the Temporary Roaming Number as this is only a Forward number and changes.  So what charges do you pay for when roaming?Making Calls?                     Yes you pay for all of the Call.Receiving Calls?                                Yes you pay for the Roaming country Inbound Part of the Call.Sending a SMS?                                Yes you pay to send a SMS.Receiving a SMS?             No it’s free to receive a SMS.Sending a MMS?              Yes you pay to send a MMS.Receiving a MMS?           You may be charged for Data Usage to receive the MMS ( I never have on O2, But I know other UK networks charge)Data Usage                         Is all chargeable  The Person who is Calling or Texting you from the UK. This is where a lot of confusion becomes and people become worried regarding charges.                        Simple Fact to Remember:Even though the person you are contacting is abroad. You are still only calling their UK Mobile Number. So treat it as they are still in the UK. So for example: If you have free UK Text allowance, it will still be Free (Your Texting a UK mobile Number)If you have Free UK Minutes, then again you are calling a UK Mobile Number, so it will use your UK Minutes Allowance. If you don’t have Free Allowances, then you will be charged at your normal standard Rate of ringing a UK or Texting a UK Mobile number  Couple of Questions and Answers that may come in useful: Q)   I’m abroad and my friend is abroad, will I be charged to contact my friend as I’m only calling a UK Mobile numberA)   Yes, even though you are calling a UK Mobile Number. You are not in the UK and the person you are calling isn’t, so you will pay the Roaming Charges to make the call and the person who is receiving the call will pay the inbound part of the charge Q)   Why am I charged twice for Voice Mail Messages?A)   When someone tries to contact you and you don’t answer, the call is then passed back to the O2-UK voice mail as a return call, So you pay for the Return part of the call even though you didn’t answer your Mobile. Then when you want to listen to your voice mail, you pay to make the call and listen to it. So this is where Double Charges apply Q)   Why are inbound SMS free when I’m abroad?A)   This was set by the EU Telecoms Parliament, that any EU Mobile Company must allow their users to allow incoming SMS for Free anywhere in the world. Q)   What is the Difference between Roaming and Home Networks?A)   Your home network is in your network where you purchased the Sim from. So if you purchased your Sim card in the UK and from O2, your home network would be O2-UK and you would be allocated a UK Mobile number.Roaming is when you are no longer on your home network. So for example you go to Spain and you pick up Telefonica ES. This mean you are Roaming on a Spanish Network. If you have any other questions please ask and I will gladly try to answer them and will keep editing the 1st thread to make it easier for everyone to read.

All calls to the UK to landline numbers use the international code +44 and drop the first zero. hi
there is no standard settings for estrict the users from changing the sales office and sales group in the sales order

I am told that the airplane mode is sufficient from keeping the phone off from roaming, but does this apply to any background data usage for applications and such?
If the phone is in airplane mode, are all use of the phone including wifi and application use through the wifi outside of all extra charges from roaming?

If you are getting charged to use the wifi, then it is possible.  Otherwise no
Just to elaborate here, Ann154 is referring to access charges for wifi, which is nothing to do with Verizon, so if you are using it in a plane, hotel, an internet cafe etc that charges for Wifi rather than being free .   Verizon does not charge you (or indeed know about!) wifi usage, or any other usage that is not on their cellular network (such as using a foreign SIM for example in global phones)  So these charges, if any, will not show up on the verizon bill app.  Having it in airplane mode prevents all cellular data traffic so you should be fine

    Dear Experts,
Iam raising this question after checking all the contents related to Sub Transaction type in SDN.
My prob is: for raw material sales scenario i have created order delivery and invoice. For Invoice i have done account determination with a different G/L in VKOA. Now i have to create an excise invoice and the accounting entry for central ED on sales should go to different G/L account. for account determination i have done the following settings:
    Maintained Sub transaction type in
IMG -> Logistics - General -> Tax on Goods movement -> India -> Basic Settings
    ->Maintain Sub Transaction types
IMG -> Logistics - General -> Tax on Goods movement -> India ->
Account determination -> Specify Excise Accounts per Excise Transaction.
Here against DLFC sub transaction Type is maintained..
    Also
IMG -> Logistics - General -> Tax on Goods movement -> India -> Account determination -> Specify G/L Accounts per Excise Transaction
Here maintained Excise group with DLFC Company Code subtransaction type, chart of accounts and all required GL Account .
But when the iam creating Excise Invoice in J1IIN and clicking on Subtransaction type-F4, no entries are shown. No values found is the message in green. Message no. DH801
If i use subtransaction type and enter billing document and enter, the following error message comes:
"Excise modvat accounts not defined for DLFC transaction and excise group"
Iam unable to understand why the subtransaction type maintained is not showing in TCODE J1IIN?
    Regards

For the error message DH801, please check note 840911
