Intro

Well, having this forum up is cool.
One of the items on the checklist for a new ACE Director is to post an intro. Don't really enjoy talking about myself, but I guess I need to get this done. Okie dokie, here we go...
I'm a Program Manager for Institutional Business Systems at the California Institute of Technology's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, supporting the Lab's role in NASA's robotic space exploration programs. I worked in Oracle Consulting before joining JPL, where I earned a Leadership 2000 Award and Consultant of the Year honors. I have over 11 years of experience in solution architecture and project management, with functional expertise in Oracle E-Business Projects, Financials and Discrete Manufacturing. I started using Oracle databases with Version 5. My experiences have shown me how much I don't know...I work hard to keep my skills sharp and current. These days, I'm working on building up my skills with the BPM Suite, the WebCenter Suite and OBIEE.
I've been published numerous times, including ComputerWorld and OAUG Insight. I'm also a frequent speaker on Oracle Applications, project management methods and information technology strategy at major conferences, including Collaborate, Oracle OpenWorld, and the Predictive Methods Conference. I'm also active in the Oracle user community: Chair of the OAUG Fusion Council, a member of OAUG's Customer Support Council and Education Committees, the IOUC Fusion Council, and winner of the 2008 OAUG President's Award. I also blog: http://ORCLville.blogspot.com.
Yikes, that was embarrassing...glad it's over!

how can I make a intro page for my website, then after the intro has run make the page automatically change to my website's home screen

You can do this using a meta refresh but the problem is you have to add it to the html file for the page very time you publish changes.
A better way is to create a splash page and upload it to the server outside of the folder produced by iWeb. Example HERE.
The meta refresh is added to the head section of the html file...
    <meta http-equiv="refresh" content="32;url=http://www.domain.about.com/Page-Name.html">
The delay time in seconds is marked in blue and the URL to the redirect page is in red.

  • How can I get UDF to work on OS 10.8.5 will open 'intro' but not play content

How can I view a UDF on Mac OS 10.8.5? It opens the cyclical intro but will not play the content. Using the controller reults in 'not permitted' for every action. Thank you!

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How can I intro play / auto-skip songs after a set amount of play time?

I'm using iTunes on Windows 7 and I'm curious if there's a way, using iTunes itself or with a plug-in, to just intro play through my playlists. By this I mean, play only the first 30 seconds or so of each song before skipping to the next track.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    well, that's no fun...

  • How can I import my html flash intro into Muse?

I created a flash intro using Tumult Hype.
I just designed a website in Adobe Muse and I'd like to insert my flash intro to be the first screen on my website. I'd also like to link it so that when i click "enter" it takes me to the home page of my site.
How can i do this? I've read numerous articles and forums on this problem and no one seems to have the solution.
    Someone PLEASE HELP!

Use the code below... Upload your tumult file to your server as i don't think this will work locally. Insert an HTML object on your first page in Muse ( Home/Index.html ) and paste the code below in the object, change the URL in the code to point to your Tumult document. You may have to use an absolute path to other pages when you click the enter button for example http://www.yoursite.com/otherpage.html which will then take you to other pages in your muse document. Let me know if you run into issues...
Adding iframes to your site to display other site pages with embedded HTML
In addition to using embedded HTML to insert code you've pasted from a third-party website, you can also embed an entire web page within an iframe using the same method. For example, you can type a code snippet like this:
    <iframe title="A Title for this Content" src="http://yoururlhere.com" width="900" height="500" style="border: 0;"></iframe>
In the code above, replace the text in the title="" and url="" with the desired external web page's title and URL. You can also customize the width and height of the iframe window to the desired values to fit your site's design.
Optionally, you can also add an attribute that ensures the iframe will not display a scrollbar by adding this to the opening iframe tag:
    scrolling="no"
By choosing Object > Insert HTML, you can open a new HTML Code window and embed an iframe anywhere on your site and then set any URL (site address, such as www.google.com) to display a site that is live on the Internet inside it.
You can also use an iframe to embed animation, such as the HTML5 animations created in Adobe Edge. Find the name of the HTML file created by Adobe Edge and use that file name in your iframe's URL attribute:
    <iframe src="Project-Header-r1v1.html" width="100%" height="100%" scrolling="no">
    </iframe>

  • One original Intro cartridge no longer recognized by HP Officejet 6500a Plus printer

The original "Intro" Magenta cartridge in my HP 6500a Plus is no longer recognized by the printer.
The other "Intro" color cartridges (cyan and yellow) have a little ink left, and are recognized, along with a non-Intro HP black cartridge.
I didn't use this printer a lot. What would cause just one cartridge to no longer be recognized by the printer?
I can't use this printer at all now because of this. Not even for black-only printing... Not even for scanning!
    Edit:
More info: The Magenta cartridge has an expiry of 2013/08, and the other 2 color cartridges have an expiry of 2013/09.
Hmm.. are these cartridges designed to self-destruct about 6 months after expiry, even if they have some useable ink left in them?
In a month or so, will the other 2 quit being recognized as well?
    I get:
    Ink System has failed (0xc19a0020)
    Ink System has failed (0xc19a0022)
See attached pics for cartridge specific messages:
I've done Solution one: Reset the printer.
Done Solution two: Remove, clean, and reinstall the printhead.
Done Solution three: Reset the product (looks like the first solution).
I'm going to but a new Magenta cartridge and see if the problem goes away..

I just discovered the Embedded Web Server on my E710n-z printer. Very cool!
But it shows conflicting information from what the LCD panel shows:
(it shows the printer head as damaged)
And here, it recognizes the Magenta cartridge as empty:
I only printed 132 pages in the lifetime of this printer and the head is gone?

  • How can I delete Adobe's intro folio from Content Viewer on iPad?

I've been building a demo folio for my boss to use pitching to a client, on the iPad.  We would like the opening screen of Adobe Content Viewer to list only our own folio(s), not Adobe's intro one about how to use the content viewer.  This folio doesn't have an archive button next to it, and I haven't found any way to delete it, whether I'm signed in with my Adobe ID or not...
    Is it possible?

This typically means the folio is no longer available for download from the Folio Producer Service.
If it were, it should appear and have a "download" button next to it after archiving.

  • In the iDVD window, there is a box in the lower left corner.  When I scroll over it, I get the message to hide or show the intro movie.  Checking or unchecking the box seems to do nothing.  Can anyone explain?

Working with iDVD on a project, there is a box in the lower left corner and sometimes another in the lower right corner.  Scrolling over the one in the lower left corner, I get a message indicating that this box hides or shows the intro movie.  I have checked and unchecked the box, but see nothing different in the project.  Nor can I figure out what is meant by "intro movie."  Can anyone explain?

Go to iDVD Help and type in Intro Movie, and you will get the full version of this:
Many iDVD themes have “motion menus” that include animations or video that loop, or play repeatedly, until the viewer clicks a menu button. Themes with motion menus have a motion icon in the lower-right corner.
In addition to background video, iDVD motion menus may also feature an intro, or short animation, that plays once before the part that loops. Other motion menus also include an “outro” that plays after the viewer clicks a button, serving as a transition between the menu and the selected content.
An example of an iDVD 6.0 theme with an intro and an outro is Reflection White Main. In this theme, the first drop zones appear in the intro, and the buttons and title appear just before the looping part of the background video. In the outro, everything flies offscreen after the viewer clicks a button.
iDVD provides tools for viewing these motion menus without going into preview mode, which is especially helpful when you are filling drop zones, and for turning the intro or outro off.
Here are ways to view and edit the background movie:
    ◼
Drag the diamond-shaped motion playhead along the scrubber bar (shown below), to view the background movie, stopping wherever you like.
(If you don’t see the motion playhead in iDVD, choose View > Show Motion Playhead.)
    ◼
Deselect the checkboxes at the left and right end of the scrubber bar if you don’t want to use the intro or outro, respectively, in your DVD menu.
The scrubber bar shows the intro and outro as shaded areas at the beginning and end.
You can also control the intro and outro from the Menu Info window. With your pointer over the menu (and with no buttons or text objects selected), press Command-I to open that window. Select or deselect the Intro and Outro checkboxes in the Background section of the window.
NOTE: If you drag your own movie to a motion menu background, the outro is automatically removed. To customize the background and keep the outro, use a still image in the menu background instead of a movie.

So I rebooted it and now all I get is the spinning beachball no startup film and it hang with the spinning ball...how do I reset it all so I get rid of the ball and back to the welcome intro film?

  • Flash intro to index (can't get it to work)

Before I go any further, let me say that the
"getURL("index2.html", "_self") has been tried and not worked in my
    case.
I'm trying to get a basic flash video intro to direct the
browser to a home page upon completion. I've imported the video to
the stage; there is one keyframe in the timeline. Here is what I
    have tried:
    • The "getURL" procedure I see everywhere on the net as
the solution to this problem, gets me an 1180 error, "Call to a
    possibly undefined method getURL"
    • Upon selecting that keyframe and attempting to add an
action, I get the message "Current selection cannot have actions
    applied to it."
    • Behaviors, of course, "this action is not supported
    by ActionScript 3.0".
    • I've tried switching to AS 2.0, but upon trying to
publish, I get the message "The component 'fl.video.FLVPlayback'
    requires ActionScript 3.0."
I'm at my wit's end on this seemingly simple procedure. Any
    help would be greatly appreciated!

So then you cannot edit the movieclip. I'm not a video expert
in the least, so you may have to get someone else's attention for
this one. There are likely ways of starting the video with code,
and then detecting when the video has stopped playing which you can
use to trigger the jump to the other page.
My best suggestion at this point is to start another posting,
possibly in the AS3 forum, indicating that you have an flv that you
want to be able to trigger the page change when the video ends. If
you don't have any code that starts the video, meaning it's
self-starting, then you oughta mention that as well.
I'll probably try to follow it if you do--maybe I can learn
something (I generally zip past any postings involving video and
sound). I don't get any video work, so I don't have much experience
with it. But I did solve an issue for someone once... something
they could have solved themselves if they knew how valuable Google
    is as a resource.

  • What Program Should I use to create motion vector intro?

    Hello,
I am creating an intro to a series I am making for a client. I will be animating vector images that I have created in Illustrator by saving them as ".ai" files. In the past I have created a similar project using Premiere Pro CS6 using ".png" files in hopes of saving time and processing power.(However, the final product's quality was not where it should have been.) Would it be more beneficial to create this project in After Effects CS6? What are the benefits of using vector images in After Effects rather than Premiere? Are they any benefits? Also if you have any experience creating animation in these programs I would love to hear any advice seeing that I am new to this type of work.
    Thanks,
    Alex

What is the final destination of your animation, are you producing this to go on a DVD, or a website. After Effects is superior to Premiere in animation capabilities of vector objects (which really turn into bitmpaped objects for the final rendering no matter what program you use) , but Premiere is quicker for splicing videos together and putting transitions in between them.
If the final quality is not where it should have been your settings were not correct. My advice is to  use an experienced professional to do this job for you, until you learn more about quality control for animation.
