  • Adobe Media Encoder: introducing stairs (edge artifacts)

Adobe Media Encoder: Is it fundamentally flawed?
When exporting Flash content to video, I noticed that Adobe Media Encoder introduces artifacts around edges that have a sharp contrast. The problem does not seem to be affected by bitrate or other settings and if I frameserve the video from Premiere out to a command line encoder, the problem does not occur, which leads me to believe that there is a big problem within Adobe Media Encoder. Most users may not notice/experience the problem if they are dealing with live action footage, but if your project contains animation (esp. Flash animation), it is a HUGE issue, if you are trying to maintain picture quality.
(Note: I've tried exporting on 3 separate hardware setups and I've even tried reverting to CS2 -> the problem exists in all of my tests)
Can someone else confirm the problem? (The problem is clearly there when exporting to MPEG2, Windows Media)
How to clearly recreate the problem
    In Adobe Flash
    Create a Flash project: 1280 x 720, 24fps, Stage Color: White
Create two symbols: - a red circle with a thin hairline black stroke
    - a larger blue circle with a thicker black stroke
Create 2 layers on the timeline, place an instance of each symbol on the timeline on separate layers and create a motion tween for each symbol so that they move both horizontally and vertically across the screen.
Make the animation last at least 3-4 seconds and make sure the circles are not moving too fast.
Set opposite easing values for each circle (one with 100, the other with -100)
Export Movie... Bitmap Sequence...24 bit color, match screen.
In Premiere, create a new project:
    Custom Settings:
    Editing Mode: Desktop
    Timebase: 24.00 frames/second
    Frame Size: 1280 x720
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square (1.0)
    Fields: No Fields (Progressive Scan)
    Display Format 24 fps Timecode
Import the bitmap sequence. Select the first file in the sequence and check Numbered Stills.
Place the Flash footage into a sequence.
    Export...Adobe Media Encoder.
    Try the following preset settings:
    - MPEG2, HDTV 720p 24 High Quality
    - Windows Media, HDTV 720p 24 High Quality
    - Quicktime, HDTV 720p 24

Yeah, mp4 in HTML5 browsers is h.264 encoded - h.264 is a subset of MPEG-4 standard. More info here:
H.264/MPEG-4 AVC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For ease of use in AME, if you look at the right side of the UI in the presets, the Web Video > YouTube presets are the ones that will encode to h.264 with the mp4 extension.
    hth,
    Joe

  • Introducing: Adobe Business Catalyst (BC) Site Integration Video Tutorial Series

    Hi
I've been developing in BC now for many years now, and I’ve integrated more than 300 websites. I have always felt there was a need for a resource to learn how to do site integration from start to finish for developers – so I created my own lesson series.  This video series will give someone a solid foundation and understanding of integrating a website into Adobe Business Catalyst and offers a peek into my workflow.
The total series is 3.5 hours and it is broken into multiple videos by step, so you can complete the tutorial at your own pace, and re-visit a specific step as needed.  The series will cover the entire process of creating a cool Responsive Twitter Bootstrap template integration into Adobe Business Catalyst.  I start with nothing and end up with a fully integrated website while documenting the entire process. A lot of common snags and issues will be covered during the process and we will work through them together.
You will be able to log in and stream any of the video lessons whenever you want, on any device. You can even download all of the videos and watch offline!
These videos cover many of the steps you will take to integrate a template – here are some examples of the things I cover while integrating the website:
    1. Template Creation
    2. Dynamic Menus
    3. Home page rotator Web App
    4. Testimonials Web App
    5. Featured Blog Post Web App
    6. Custom Web Forms
    7. Newsletter Subscription Form
    8. Social Navigations with Icon Fonts
    9. Custom jQuery functions
    10. Our Team Web App
    11. FAQ Web App
    12. Custom Blog Integration
    13. Portfolio Web App
    14. Contact Form
    15. Responsive Web Design / Media Queries
    16. Bugs / Troubleshooting
    17. Basic jQuery +and more!
All of this for only $9.95 | Check it out here: http://bit.ly/ZLlHlr

Hi Joe, does your dynamic menus demo cover 2 level hover navigation with the bootstrap menu? Something I am struggling with integrating ... Thanks

  • Is Adobe Edge Inspect compatible with Safari?

Currently, I am only able to get Chrome working through the Google Chrome Extension. If it is compatible with Safari, how would I configure it to work? Thank you.

    Hi Alistair,
I'm not entirely sure if you're referring to Safari on your computer or Safari on your iPad, so I'll answer for both:
If you meant Safari on your computer, the answer is no. But since we just released the Edge Inspect API (http://blogs.adobe.com/edgeinspect/2013/06/18/introducing-the-edge-inspect-javascript-api/) that's something you can do yourself if you'd prefer to test from Safari. As far as that being a better test bed, the browser you're testing from really doesn't make a difference for how the pages will appear on your devices. We simply send the URL from the browser to the devices, rather than sending the page contents, so all rendering is controlled by the device.
If you meant Safari on your iPad, well, the answer is also no, but for a different reason. We're making use of the UIWebView component because by embedding that component in our application we have much greater control over it and can implement customizations like screenshots, remote inspect, cache clearing, and things like that to make Edge Inspect more fully featured. UIWebView and Safari are both based on WebKit, and we've configured the UIWebView component to behave as much like Safari as possible. At this point in time we know of no rendering differences between the two, the only differences we're aware of are performance-related... Safari is faster than the UIWebView component. Since we'd essentially need to cripple/remove a number of features to make Edge Inspect work with Safari, there are no plans to make that happen.
    Hope this helps,
    Mark

  • Adobe Acrobat Reader Plug - Writing to text file

    Hi,
I have an Acrobat plug-in which performs various functions including writing to a text file on c:\
If I use my plug-in with Acrobat all is well.
If I use the same plug-in with Reader everything seems to work ok except that it won't create the text file. It's as if Adobe reader is protecting this somehow.
Has anyone seen this before? Any one know how to get around it?
    Regards
    Stuart

More about protected mode. It is designed specifically to protect the user against attacks originating INSIDE Adobe Reader (e.g. via exploits). Sandboxing is a leading edge protection technology, which (for example) is also being applied to browsers. Your plug-in is therefore part of the problem to be protected against. You have to fully understand the philosophy to exist inside this new sandboxed world. Here is some reading

  • Trouble Signing into Adobe ID

I'm on Premiere Elements 9 but I've also tried on Photoshop Elements 9 too and it doesn't work.  I can get past the page that asks for my Adobe ID and password but then I am taken to a page that says I need to complete more information then in asks for my birthdate and Personal URL and if I agree to the Terms of Use.  Once I fill that all out then it wont let me continue on the button of Update Account is dark and I can't push it.  I tried hitting Enter it also doesn't work.  I've uninstalled the entire program and reinstalled it and that also hasn't fixed the problem.  Can you help?

    ATR,
I believe that you and 18qwer are correct.
When PrE 9 was introduced, Adobe offered a Photoshop.com account with online storage, and perhaps a few more perks. There was also a Photoshop.com Plus account, for a subscription fee. IIRC, it offered even more storage, and also access to Additional Functional Content, such as more DVD/BD Menus, etc., but many users were not impressed by the few Menus, Titles, and other Content items. They felt that the limited extra material was too limited, and too seldom introduced.
Photoshop.com became Adobe Revel, in part, I believe, because of the extreme confusion over what Photoshop.com was. Many questions about that service were posted to the Photoshop General Discussions form, as the users believed that somehow, they had a subscription to Photoshop - Adobe's flagship program for Image editing.
Users, with older versions of PrE, or PsE, probably still have the widget to subscribe to Photoshop.com, but everything is now Adobe Revel. Existing Photoshop.com subscriptions, and setups can be converted to Adobe Revel, for existing on-line storage accounts. http://forums.adobe.com/community/revel The Signups, in those old programs are still for Photoshop.com, which has essentially been closed - other than the ability to roll the on-line storage into Revel.
Like you, I would leave Revel out of the mix, unless one does need the on-line storage capabilities, or some other aspect of Adobe Revel.
I expect that we will see much confusion in respect to Photoshop.com over the next few years.
    Good luck to the OP,
    Hunt

  • Adobe Edge Animate CC won't preview in Browser

I am writing a review on Adobe Edge Animate CC. Loving the program until I tried to preview it in a browser.
I am on a PC, using latest version of Firefox, and IE10. The only thing that is viewable in either browser is a static image.
The animation runs perfectly "within" the Edge Animate CC program.
Need to resolve this problem, as I would hate to give the program a bad review, especially if it is something that I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for any help you can give,
    Dee Marie

Thanks for your response to my question.
The animation I created was very simple one.
The Original Animation (that I could not view in any browser)
    1. Resized the Stage and changed the background color
    2. Created a "moon" shape from the Ellipse Tool, adding a silver color and inverted shadow
    3. Animated "moon" shape using Motion Paths
    4. Added a font from Edge Web Fonts (clicking the Add Fonts within the Edge Web Fonts box), changed font color and size
Saved each step as I created them
The first time I tried to create the above animation it would not animate when previewed in browser.
    TODAY: I started from scratch.
The only thing that I did differently: after saving "each" step, I clicked preview in browser.
To my surprise, each time I added an additional step the animation worked perfectly when I clicked "preview in browser"
Not sure what I did wrong the first time ... as I stated above, the only thing that I did differently this time was to click the "preview in browser" between each step (after first saving each step).
So, whatever I did, it is now working perfectly!
Thanks again for your helpful response.
    Sincerely,
    Dee Marie

  • Adobe Edge Preview installation error

I installed Adobe Creative Suite 6 through Adobe Creative Cloud.  All of the applications seemed to install correctly, except Adobe Edge Preview, for which the following message was given.
Installation completed though some optional components failed to install correctly.  More details.
The details page showed the following error.
ERROR: DW050:  - DirectX: Install failed
Installation retry also failed and gave the same error.
What is the solution to fixing this error?

Thanks. The link you provided is to a PPT and WMA presentation about the DirectX 11 technology update. I downloaded http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35, instead, installed it, and then ran the installation retry in Adobe Application Manager. Installation worked. Success.
To all, your prompt responses were much appreciated.  Please consider this problem resolved.

  • How to uninstall Adobe Edge Code Preview 3 after installing Adobe Edge Code CC

After installing Adobe Edge Code CC via Creative Cloud I have noticed I still have Adobe Edge Code Preview 3 on my machine.
There is no specific uninstaller in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers
So how do I uninstall it?

Hey Jarrid, you can just drag it to the trash to get rid of it. The preferences are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Edge Code/ so you can delete that folder as well to completely remove it.

    Hi,
I have created an interactive animation following this tutorial and have publish it to HTML5. With all the files generated in a folder, I placed the entire folder into the same folder where my Adobe Indesign files are.
When I used the web content overlay in my indesign to link to the html page. It just showed me a white block. When I set the background to transparent, nothing shows when I previewed in my content viewer in both desktop and devices. It works fine when I previewed it on Firefox and Safari.
Any idea what caused the problem?
    Thanks.
