Introducing BlackBerry 10.3.1 Advanced Interactions

Introducing BlackBerry 10.3.1 Advanced Interactions
Did you recently update to BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.3.1? If so, make sure you try out the new Advanced Interactions that can help you increase your productivity.
Whether it’s waking your device automatically when you pick it up, or silencing an incoming call with a flip of your device, I’m confident you’ll love these new options so make sure you try them out.
To help you get started here’s a quick overview of each option
Note: If you are using Battery Saving Mode double-check your settings by going to Settings > Battery Saving Mode as this feature can turn off Advanced Interaction.
Lift to wake
If enabled, this setting will cause your device to automatically wake up whenever you pick it up from a flat surface. This means you no longer need to use the Power/Lock key, or swipe up from the bottom of the display to wake your device.
To turn this option on or off, go to Settings > Advanced Interactions followed by setting the Life to Wake switch to your desired setting.
Flip to mute
If Flip to mute is enabled on your device, the next time you receive a call and you are unable to answer it right then and there, just flip your device facedown to silence the ring tone or vibration.
To turn this option on or off, go to Settings > Advanced Interactions followed by setting the Flip to mute switch to your desired setting.
Flip to save power
Are you looking for an easy way to save power and maximize your device’s battery life? All it takes, thanks to the Flip to save power option, is placing your device face down on flat surface to place your device into standby mode.
When in standby mode your device will still receive notifications for incoming calls, messages, alarms and more, while saving battery life in the process.
To turn this option on or off, go to Settings > Advanced Interactions followed by setting the Flip to save power switch to your desired setting.
Hold to stay awake
If you find your device display turns off while you are still reading a lengthy document, consider turning on the Hold to stay awake option.
When enabled, this setting will override the Screen Timeout value and cause your device display to remain on so you can finish reading without interruption.
To turn this option on or off,go to Settings > Advanced InteractionsLife  followed by setting the Hold to stay awake switch to your desired setting.

  • Gestures inside an advanced interaction

It appears that gestures do not work in advanced interactions.
I created a web widget with a PDF file inside (14 pages). viewing it in a browser you are able to scroll but if you open it in an ipad the scrolling is disabled.
I included an example of the problem at this address:
Click on the button to reveal the interaction and try to scroll.
    http://privatewrittentest.com/iPad/
This is the last problem I have. Once this is solved I can package my app and send it to Apple PLEASE HELP!

This one is actually a web object not an interaction but the same problem happens with interactions

  • Editing on the Advanced Interaction display?

Has anyone been able to edit the Interaction IDs or Objective IDs on the Advanced Interaction display?(Press F9 to see it)
In Captivate 4 you can. But I have not been able to edit them in Captivate 5. FRUSTRATING!
If anyone has any idea how to actually make a change on this page, please point me in the right direction. Otherwise I have to believe that this is broken.
    Thank you for your help!
    Greg

    Thanks for the idea LilyBiri!
I'll have to give that a go, sinc it appears to be the only possible solution at this time.
I managed to find a Captivate 5 article that seems to indicate by it's title that you CAN edit in the Advanced Interaction screen:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/captivate/cp/using/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119e95822ef-7fdc.h tml
I have left some feedback for Adobe on the article.
I'm kind of disappointed about this, as it was an easy way to get the reporting back.
    Thanks,
    Greg

  • Advanced interactions and custom effects

    Me again,
I am still having problems with custom effects in advanced actions and even though this has been escalated to senior support within adobe - i have today been told that what i am trying to do is impossible.
I am starting to worry that what i am doing is incorrect and that what i want captivate to do is limited. i cant believe that it is but i just can not seem to get it to work - please help me i am tearing my hair out.
    thanking you in advnace

I could reproduce your problem. I checked the XML-file, and there the duration is correctly set to 0.5secs.
When applying the custom effect time-based or using an interactive object, that duration is correct.
But discovered (was using CP7) that when applying a custom effect by advanced action, the duration for Stretch (and for several other effects) reverts to the custom duration and  even that it is independent of the duration of the object timeline, which is really strange. You can make the object duration as long or as short as you want, the duration of the effect is always the same when applied by advanced actions. Even if you use one of the default effects.
Will try to find out what happens... no solution for the moment, just discovered this. Would like to go back to 5 or  5.5 because I don't remember it was the case there, but that will be for later.

  • Advance interaction with two consecutive sound files

I am developing an interaction where the user needs to select an answer then a feedback is shown. With this feedback I would like to play two sounds one after the other: a bell/buzz sound (to indicate wright or wrong) and a text to speech (to explain the feedback)
If I place both sounds in an advance action, it only plays one of them. Can you please help me finding a solution to play both sounds one after the other without have to create only one sound that include the bell/buzz and the feedback?

I see, audio files add a bunch to filesize.
Is this a question slide? And do you trigger the action with the Success/ Failure events?
In that case you could try (I didn't check) to play only the first clip with the Advanced action, add the statement Continue at the end. The playhead will be released from the pausing point. Now you'll have to see how long that first clip takes? Extend the slide's duration and add the second clip as an audio object (invisible object to which you attach audio) in the timeline after the duration of the first clip. Hope that explanation makes sense?

  • CP5 - W7 - Advanced interactions - where to find information

    Hi there!
Have you ever wondered where the complete list of variables used by Adobe Captivate 5 is.
If you do not wonder, please show me where.
I have a simple question, or maybe not so simple
A user takes a test with 5 random questions 10 points each
I want to be able to jump to a specific page or show a specific button if result is above a specific % or if user has completed/passed the test or if is more than a certain points.
But how, how can I get the result from the quiz.
Can I get the current result when the user is on question 3 of 5
(if 81% is what you need to pass the test then if you have 20% fail there is no need to take more questions.)
Which are all the variables associated with quizzes
Which other variables can you use
How can you depending on a if/else question change
    * Visibility of objects such as buttons and so on
    * Path of presentation
    * Motion properties of an effect
         * Speed of an motion
         * Height of an object
An example of what I want...
I have a start page with 5 image buttons.
Each button is a link to a some slides E.G.
Read about the sun, moon, water, air or earth
When pressing the moon button I get to some moon pages and on the last one I jump back to the start page
When viewing the moon pages i presume that captivate logs that, and that I should be able to some how extract that information.
When back on the start page I want to change the image symbol on the moon button from a moon to a moon with a green check mark. (this chapter is read)
    My questions in short:
Are these kind of interactions possible?
Which system variables can one use?
Is there a easy to understand CP5 tutorial?
Please fill in with your wishes/knowledge here.
    Best Regards // Daniel

    Thank you!
I found what I am looking for thanks to you

  • Captivate 4 advanced interaction help needed

I have a captivate 4 project that's due tomorrow for my new job and I can't figure out why it is not working correctly. I have spent the last 40 hours trouble shooting and have not been able to figure it out. Please help me out if you can. I have a 47 slide scenario that works right if you answer all the questions correctly. However, when you don't answer a question correctly the redirection is messed up even though it looks right in captivate 4. the back and forward buttons are not going where they should and at times you are advanced to another question without having answered the previous question. Here's the flash and captivate 4 files. I don't know what else to do and would greatly appreciate suggestions.

    Hello,
Just had a quick look at your CP-file but opened it in CP5 so not totally sure: in the Quiz settings, you have only allowed 1 attempt for the Quiz (Quiz preferences, Pass or Fail) is that correct? You allow multiple attempts (2 or 3) in the individual questions, but this is normally meant to retake the question immediately. I had such an example on slide 18. Not sure, but please try to allow more than 1 attempt for the quiz itself.

  • LMS Or Widget Tracking Variables and Advanced Interactions

Looking to see if Captivate 5 will send variables to store in the LMS when a user leaves the training and comes back. If it does then I can go to my LMS company to see if it supports the data. I'm assuming when you check "Interaction And Score" it sends variables?
If this is not possible is there a widget that will store the variables on the users pc?

What setting must be enabled to make the variables stored over different sessions?
I put a test piece into SCORM Cloud to do a trace and it came back with the below information. However, on resume it does not store the new changed variable. Here is my settings
    Here is the SCORM trace:

  • Cp8: Advanced interactions - Can't get 'Forced Navigation' through buttons to work

I am going a little crazy because I am tring to do something fairly simple, and I've done it before. I've reached a point of despair.
I'm just trying to do a 'forced navigation' thing where the user has to all of the buttons on a timeline before they:
    1. Play audio file from the library
    2. Show continue button (which is hidden in the properties panel)
My (failing) method so far is to do this:
    1. Create a variable for each button that is equal to 0.
    2. Create a Standard Actions that assigns a value of 1 to the variable (on success)
    3. Attach the Standard Actions to each button.
    4. Create a conditional action that says if the value of all the variables are equal to one, then the continue button will be shown, and the audio will play.
Seems logical to me, and other sources online seem to suggest that this is correct, but it doesn't work.
Can anyone help me out? I am desperate and in a hurry.

You need a conditional action with two decisions for each button. If you are on CP8, would recommend a shared action personally, and put it in a file that you can always reuse as external Library. For one button action will look like this:
There are multiple threads showing this same solution. And on my blog there are several use cases as well.

  • Need Help Creating Advanced Interacives in InDesign

I am a graphic designer for a multinational New Zealand based company and we are looking to create an interactive offline web site or flash programme that our reps can use to introduce people to our products. We are looking for something akin to what iBook can create on a Mac system and are thinking that InDesign coupled with a small amount of flash should do it. The final output would allow a rep to show documents, video and photos as graphically interesting (possibly ZUI) educational tools from their tablets while offline. It will require a rather large site map and hyperlinks to online content if available. I am writing to inquire about training material or courses in NZ that could cover this sort of advanced interactive design for InDesign.  I have some flash experience but until now InDesign has only been used for print layouts.  So is there courses available in NZ and would InDesign allow me to create such a multi-page interactive document?
    Cheers - Ben

@Ben – though I would not rule out Flash altogether, I think in your case it would be benefical to try the HTML5 route.
It's not for free, but there is a trial version of a 3rd party plug in for InDesign that could perfectly fit your needs:

  • Using Director to create an interactive animated comic? Advice to know if Director is the right tool

Hi all, I am looking for advice regarding interactive animated comics.I am creating animated comic sequences using After Effect,
but I would like to introduce an extra layer by adding interactivity in the mix (branching story for example).
I believe Director can do that, but I want to be sure it is the right software before I start digging in too much.
My main question is about portability (standalone, web and IOS/Android) and to have a pipeline which is futur proof. Is Director really going to move on and survive the next few years? Is Adobe Edge (still in beta) not going to take it's place? How versatile is Director to export for different platform?
Thank you in advance for your help!

  • How to get an advanced action to respond to text selection in dropdown widgets

I want to provide a user with a set of dropdowns containing text strings, and if they select the right combination of dropdown entries, give them a Continue button, and if they don't select the right combination then give them an error message and solution.
The trouble I'm having is I don't understand how to get the action to read the widget selections. I'll go through a demo to show you what I'm doing so far.
    (Context: CP5, and JavaScript/programming ignoramus.)
    Objects in the demo
    My steps so far
    1. Set up two user variables
    2. Create two dropdown widgets (Widget1 and Widget2) each with labels "Right" and "Wrong" and point them to the two variables.
    3. Add a Continue button and a text box labelled Wrong, each set to invisible.
    4. Add a Submit button with advanced interactions to show Continue or Wrong depending on what is chosen in the widgets.
The full set of conditions and actions are:
IF vTestWidget1 is equal to Right
AND vTestWidget2 is equal to Right
    THEN Show Continue
    ELSE Show Wrong
    The problem
I run this and only ever get the ELSE response (i.e. I can select two Rights and the Submit button still displays the Wrong text box).
    Possibilities
I'm missing some sort of formatting around the text?
I need something like a submit button for each widget to prompt an update in their associated variables?
    Can anyone help?

Thanks, for the help guys. However...
I have triple-checked my variable naming and can't see any problem.
What I did do was eliminate the "Choose" option from the head of each widget. The demo suddenly worked perfectly!
BUT  that perfect outcome seems accidental.
The demo seems to work ONLY when the Advanced Action's success conditions refer to the first entry on each dropdown. That is, if the dropdowns contain values Right and Wrong, IN THAT ORDER, and the Action looks for "Right" and "Right" then you can click Submit and it produces the Continue button.
However, for example, if you reverse the order of the entries in one widget, so Widget2 contains Wrong and Right, and YOU DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE, then selecting "Right" and "Right" and clicking the Submit button produces the Wrong text box response.
So the order in which entries are listed in the widget has an impact, at least for me.
When you guys replicated my use case, did you replicate the Choose entries in the widgets, or did you simply have two top-level Right responses?
I've uploaded my first demo, without any other changes, to Google Docs, if you want to check it:

  • Getting Started with the BlackBerry Classic

Reposted from the Inside BlackBerry Help Blog
Whether you are new or experienced with BlackBerry 10, here’s a quick guide to get you started with the BlackBerry Classic!
Step 1 – Insert your SIM and media card
The first step you’ll want to take after unboxing your new BlackBerry Classic is inserting your nano SIM card and media card. When you have your nano SIM and media card (optional) handy, use the tool that is provided in the BlackBerry Classic box to open the SIM card tray.
To do this, push the tip of the tool, or a paperclip, into the hole that is to the left of SIM on the side of your device. Doing so pops the tray out at which point you can pull it all the way out.
After doing this, with the metal contacts of your nano SIM card facing away from you, place the nano SIM into the tray, then push the tray into the slot. Repeat these steps to insert your media card by inserting the tool, or a paperclip, in the hole to the right of SD along the left side of your device.
Tip: If you don’t have the right SIM card please contact your service provider and ask them for help switching to a nano SIM card. Please avoid using a larger SIM card that has been cut to a smaller size as this may cause your device to not recognize the SIM card. Using a modified SIM card may also result in it getting stuck since the modified SIM card may be thicker than the required nano SIM card. When you have finished inserting your nano SIM and media card the next step is completing the BlackBerry Classic setup wizard.
Step 2 – Complete the set up wizard
If you haven’t already, turn on your BlackBerry Classic by pressing and holding the power button on the top of your device so you can complete the setup process. This process guides you through connecting to a Wi-Fi network, setting up a new BlackBerry ID, or signing into your existing BlackBerry ID, as well as showing you several fundamental gestures.
Tip: If you don’t have a BlackBerry ID you’ll be able to create one during the setup process and, in the event you don’t remember your BlackBerry ID password, use the Forgot Password option to reset your BlackBerry ID password. Don’t forgot to confirm your BlackBerry ID, which can help you recover your password in case you ever forget it!
When you have finished the setup wizard, the new and improved Setup app will open automatically.
Within this app you’ll be able to complete the following actions that will help you learn more about your new device and customize everything just the way you like
Find out what’s different about BlackBerry 10
Understand the various gestures used throughout your device
Add your email and social networking accounts
Transfer data from your previous device (See step 3 to learn more!)
    Customize your device notifications
Setup BBM so you can connect with family and friends
    Set a device password
    And more!
When you have finished going through the various options within the Setup App, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to minimize it. You can always access the Setup app in the future by tapping on the Setup icon as well.
Step 3 – Transfer data from your previous device
If you are switching from another device, whether it be BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Android or iPhone, there are several different methods you can use to help transfer data to your new device.
For a visual overview, check out the following videos that guide you through this process. The Setup app on your BlackBerry Classic can also help you do this, just open the Setup app, tap Switching Devices and follow the provided steps.
Android device to BlackBerry 10 smartphone
BlackBerry OS smartphone to BlacKBerry 10 smartphone
iOS device to BlackBerry 10 smartphone
If you encounter any issues transferring your data, or would like some guidance, stop by the Device Switch board within the BlackBerry Support Community Forums and ask the community.
If you switch from another device don’t forget to perform a security wipe on your old device to remove your personal information. If your previous device was a BlackBerry device, check out our post on how to perform a security wipe.
If you use a different type of device, review the user documentation to learn how to reset it to factory settings and remove your personal information.
Step 4 – Secure your new device and turn on BlackBerry Protect
If you haven’t already set a device password, I cannot stress enough how important this is. Doing so can help prevent unwanted access if you leave your device unattended and, in the event you misplace your device, no one will be able to view your personal information. To set a device password, complete the following steps:
On the home screen, swipe down from the top of the screen
Tap Settings followed by Security and Privacy
    Tap Device Password
Set the Device Password switch to On
    Enter your desired password twice
After setting a device password make sure you verify that BlackBerry Protect is enabled on your device by going to Settings followed by BlackBerry Protect.
When enabled, BlackBerry Protect can help you locate, lock, or wipe your device where you are, provided your device is connected to the mobile or Wi-Fi network. To learn more about BlackBerry Protect go to http://protect.blackberry.com.
Step 5 – Where to learn more and find help
The easiest way to learn more about your new BlackBerry Classic is by opening the Help app, which contains a lot of useful information ranging from tips and tricks to how-to overviews. You can also view, download, or save the user guide for your device by visiting http://docs.blackberry.com.
I would also recommend reviewing BlackBerry Classic how-to demo videos that show the various features and functions offered by your device. These demos can be viewed on your device, computer, or tablet. Several BlackBerry Training courses are also available – make sure you try these out on your computer, or device to learn more about the BlackBerry Classic and BlackBerry 10 OS version 10.3.1.

Another great way to learn more is by taking the BlackBerry 10 Pop Quiz, which you can find within BlackBerry World. This app offers short quizzes that can help you learn more about your device and it only takes a few minutes to complete each test – it’s the perfect coffee break companion!
To get the BlackBerry 10 Pop Quiz, open BlackBerry World and search for it or click here. Another great resource to learn more about your device, beyond this blog of course, is the BlackBerry Classic support site located at http://www.blackberry.com/classicsupport
