Introducing Totally Unlimited Broadband from BT

Hi all
From today we’re making a few changes to our broadband portfolio – find out more about our new packages here
The biggest change is that some of our Broadband and Infinity packages will now include totally unlimited usage. This means that we are relaxing our traffic management policy and removing P2P restrictions meaning users won’t be slowed down at peak. There will still be services with usage limits for customers who want a lower cost service because they are light Internet users.
The above will apply to those who order packages including totally unlimited BT Total Broadband or totally unlimited BT Infinity from 1st Feb, or existing customers who re-contract to a totally unlimited package. We’ll not be moving over existing unlimited BT Total Broadband or Infinity customers to the new totally unlimited packages but you can request it yourself. It takes 5 days to change over and you’d be re-contracting at the same time.
All existing customers will get access to BT Cloud storage, either 2Gb or 50Gb depending on your package, even if you’re an existing Digital Vault customer. We’ll be closing Digital Vault over the summer so we recommend you switch all your files over to BT Cloud as soon as you can. All BT customers can also get BT Smart Talk free of charge. Smart Talk is an app that allows you to make calls from your mobile at landline rates over WiFi saving money on your mobile bills.
Cheers

  • BT released another Totally Unlimited Broadband pa...

    Hi
I have recently upgraded to the top normal broadband package BT just released at the start of
this month Totally Unlimited Broadband extra which is priced at £21 per month + Line rental
from £10.75 and this was their top normal broadband package on their website.
I have just noticed today BT has just released yet another Totally Unlimited Broadband
package just a day or two ago called Faster Unlimited Broadband which is priced
at £26 per month + Line rental from £10.75.
Looking at the description of both packages on the website below, they are identical and
have the exact same features and up to speeds thought the new just released Faster
Unlimited Broadband package for some reason is 5 pounds more per month.
Does anybody know what the difference is between the Unlimited Broadband extra
package and this new Faster Unlimited Broadband package?

    Thank you for the response.

    Unlimited Broadband extra
You get 50Gb cloud, and Netprotect included.
Can`t see a Faster Unlimited Broadband package.

  • 'Totally Unlimited Broadband' question

The stickied thread at the top of the forum says that anyone who orders an Infinity package from Feb 1st will get the totally unlimied package. I ordered Infinity on January 30th and my installation is tomorrow. Does this mean I won't be on the Totally Unlimited package? Or will common sense prevail and I'll be put on the totally unlimited package?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    looking good so far!
Painless installation. Engineer arrived nice and early. He said BT told him said there was an issue with my line that needed looking into. He ran some tests and everything came back good. He popped to the cabinet, did what he had to do there, set up the hub, ensured the connection was working and off he went on his merry way.
Done a few speed tests in all the excitement, been fluctuating between 60-30mb, but i guess thats to be expected in the first few days

  • Re-contract to TOTALLY Unlimited Broadband

    Hello
I have unlimited broadband and my connection is traffic managed at peak times on certain type of traffic which is annoying. I would like this removed as I've read is possible.
I'm currently on a half price deal with a few months left to run on the discount. Can I recontract now and retain the discount?
I spoke to BT on the phone and the lady didn't really have a clue what I was talking about. I then got hung up on accidentally it seemed.
Is there a better channel to use to get this sorted?
    Thanks.

  • Totally Unlimited Broadband

Just a brief message to get the conversation going.....
This is great news for a lot of us hardcore gamers out there.... However! and its a big However! I think BT are missing the big picture here....
New customers yet again get the best deal out of this, as they can sign up for this as an initial contract; which is acceptable. Existing customers however are getting a raw deal..... we have to re-contract to get this service... What a cheek!
It is clear that to get new contracts out of existing customers and tie us in for yet another eighteen months, they have come up with this "new idea" really! Please! admit it BT.... you have been been found wanting and are now having to compete with other suppliers out there, who are offering this service; as standard.
To be truly competetive and keep customers who are possibly migrating to other suppliers offering "truly unlimited broadband", I would suggest migrating existing customers to " T U B" for free and no extension of their existing contract. If then at the end of the contract, those customers are happy with what they have been experiencing, they can then sign up for another contract......... Another idea to make BT appealing, would be twelve month contracts...
C'mon BT.......... open your ears and start listening to your customers..... after all, we are the life blood of a successful business.

Correct geo. It's not all in BT's favour either - the flip side is that you also keep deals that are downgraded, for example my Sky Sports 1&2 plus ESPN for £15.

  • Unlimited broadband / total broadband option 3

Hi, can anyone tell me if the totally unlimited broadband free for 6 months £16 month after is the same as the bt total broadband option 3 ? i ordered the unlimited but in my account it says total broadband option 3 ? are they the same package?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

By the look of the BT website, there is no longer BT option 3. There seems to be BTunlimited and BT unlimited extra. The BTunlimited extra looks like it is the same as the old Option 3.  If you are only paying £16 then it looks like you are on BTunlimited.
To be sure you should give customer services a call and they will confirm what you are on.

  • Upgrade to BT Unlimited Broadband Extra at a disco...

I've received an email from BT which starts:
'Last month you had to pay a bit extra for going over your monthly usage limit. You don't want that, and we don't want that – so how about a really special deal on unlimited broadband? We'll give you totally unlimited broadband and Unlimited UK* Anytime Calls for only £23 a month plus your usual line rental throughout. That's £5 lower than normal. You won't see this price advertised.'
I'm already on unlimited, I didn't pay any extra last month, I'm already paying less than the offer.
This is at best misleading, and at worst a blatant lie to try to get me to pay them more money.

I have received one of these and TBH it looks pretty genuine to me, it arrived on my email address that normally does not get any junk or spam, it has all the BT logos on and links to BTcom   the letter is signed by -:
    Libby Barr
Managing Director, BT Sales and Service
I did get an email last month as I had used 7Gb of my 10Gb cap and I have been contemplating upgrading to unlimited.
I have not clicked any of the links within the email but TBH it looks very genuine to me.
I hope someone from BT can confirm whether it is or not
Below is what the email states (I have removed the HTML and links)
    Hello,
Last month you had to pay a bit extra for going over your monthly usage limit. You don't want that, and we don't want that – so how about a really special deal on unlimited broadband? • Totally unlimited broadbrand

    Good afternoon,
I was just wondering how I can change my broadband to this new 'totally unlimited' I am currently on Infinity option 2. I want to change it to see if it improves my online gaming experience.
    Thanks.

  • Totally Unlimited?

    Hello,
I am having a few issue with my Infinity option 2 package.
I have only been using infinity since Monday but here is my issue.
I believe that Infinity option 2 is totally unlimited and I should therefore not be traffic managed. My max theoretical speeds are 76Mb down/ 20 Mb up. In reality I seem to be getting 56/12. This seems bourne out by using FTP.
However download speeds using p2p were much slower but today have practically dropped to zero. For example I am currently downloading an 80 meg file and the speed I am getting is 0.7 kb/s !!!
This is not slow peers. I have tested it using my 100MB seed box and even tried downloading to myself a file over bitorrent versus FTP.
The p2p protocol is bitorrent. I have spoken to a tech guy via chat who would not say I was being traffic managed but just said we do not support bitorrent.
The point is I am actually downloading slower now than I was 10 years ago on dial up.
Is this what BT call 'trully unlimited' ?
Given my max speeed is 76Mb/20Mb what kind of traffic shaping limits my speed to less than 1kb/s?
Or is there a fault somewhere? Surely this cannot be traffic management, it's completely ridiculous.
Also my pings seem a little high at 39ms is this right? I am only about 25meters from the cabinet
    Thanks
    Chris
    Chris

I understand it sometimes takes a few days for the unthrottled part of unlimited to kick in.
That was certainly true for people upgrading within Infinity; and several people have reported it as new customers too.
It should sort itself within five days or so, probably less.  If not, post back again.
    ~~~
    Pings vary a lot on Infinity.  A few people who live in the right place have pings to bbc as low as 5ms.  I see around 28ms to BBC.  Two factors that effect mine are
    1 - 8ms interleaving delay.  If your line to the cabinet is good you shouldn't have that, but it varies.  It may go away in the next few days as DLM learns more about your line.
    2 - about 9ms extra delay because BT routes all traffic from large areas of the south to London via Sheffield before it leaves the BT network.
    If you post the result of 'tracert bbc.co.uk' we may be see where the ping issue is; but may not be able to help.  Unfortunately there is not much you can do about either of those effects.
    ~~~
To see about general speed run the speedtest at http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and after the test choose ‘Further Diagnostics’ and post the speeds and the profiles that this gives.
Also, what was the estimate BT gave when you signed up? If you have forgotten find your estimated speed at http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/broadband/infinity#services-checker and enter your telephone number.

  • Totally Unlimited Infinity

This should amuse you as it did me.
firstly let me say I'm on FTTP Phone trial 76/20
I thought I would go onto the Totally Unlimited so logged into my BT and went through the process of upgradeing,
Every thing went fine untill they checked my line, this is what they posted
    Packages: Choose a package
Thank you! You have chosen to bring your calls and line back to BT, and have chosen BT Infinity fibre optic broadband.
We  can see that you currently have both services with another provider, so we will need  to take care of this for you in 2 stages.
First, we will move your telephone line to BT. We will then contact you and arrange to transfer your broadband from your current provider, and at which point we will give you your broadband speed estimate.
    Needles to say I cancelled.
It appears because I'm on the trial and my number is diverted to another number they think I'm with someone else . I'm awaiting a call from the trial team as they seem to think I'm already on it but glasnost say's different. I guess I'll have to wait until the trial is over.
Anyway thought you might enjoy a smile
    Grahame

    Hi backnine,
Thanks for posting. There certainly seems to be some confusion here. Let us know how it goes when the trial team get in touch.
    Cheers

  • Totally Free BroadBand....! After Home Move

Yes that’s right Free Broadband from BT
All you have to do is fill out an online home move request and let BT do the rest.
I moved house a month ago asking to take all my BT package with me, Phone and Option 2 Broadband
I moved next door a distance of 6 feet.
On the  July 29th everything moved across OK, then a few days later I received a final bill and refund for £66 on my account which also included a £30 broadband disconnection fee. why? when all I wanted was a change of address????
So I phone BT (India) after 20 minutes a nice chap answers and I explain as best I can. “I’ll have to speak to manager” he says
The Manager suggested creating a new account number as they couldn't understand why my old account was now closed but I still have all my services running "this will take 48 hrs to take effect" they said.
3 days later I try to log into my account and its still closed.
another call to India after 90 minutes being bounced around from billing back to home move then back to accounts I was sent a sms text with my old account number on it so I could log in and check my bill so I log in and its shows my account is closed…..
I thought… "live chat" that might help maybe I’ll get to talk to someone in the UK
Nope they just said “we need to connect you to billing” back to India I go......
then I phone the BT automated billing service and this tells me I owe £17 and I cant set up a direct debit until this is paid off. Funny I thought my account was closed..?
left it a day and tried again this time I found out they have opened a new account and that’s got £17 on it and is only set up for a phone, no broadband. The chap on the phone said he couldn't trace where my broadband was coming from and that he would phone me back , that was 3 days ago…..
all this time my services have been working fine, phone and broadband, great you might think but I’m an honest person and would like to pay, I even want to upgrade to unlimited BB as I feel that BT provide the most reliable service and I have been with them for 14 years, but it seems impossible for BT to sort there mess out. So at the moment I have decided to just pay the phone bill using my card  (as they have closed the direct debit) and enjoy my free broadband which according to BT comes out of thin air…
If any BT people on here would like the challenge of sorting this mess out I would be very grateful all I’m trying to do is pay you money for the services I’m receiving...
    Best Regards
    Jason

  • Upgrading to Unlimited Broadband issues.

    Hi,
I am currently on the bt total broadband 10 GB package and would like to upgrade to the Unlimited Broadband package. When I try to upgrade online the only options it eventually gives me is the current package im already on and the unlimited broadband 'extra' package which I dont want, I just want the 16 ppm unlimited package not the extra.  Any ideas?

The same happened to me - although I was on option 2. I contacted 0800 800 030 as below. It took over an hour to get through - possibly due to the BT Sports launch - but when I finally did I was offered unlimited BB for £13.25 per month.

  • Unlimited Broadband, and Evening & Weekend Calls

    Hi All
I'm considering moving over to BT onto their:
Unlimited Broadband, and Evening & Weekend Calls for £25 per month.
Is this service truley unlimited? i.e. no caps on the total amount of downloads and no throttling / caps on the lines speed?
    Many thanks

During peak times the download speed may decrease as more people come online. Your connection speed will remain the same.
Actual connection speed depends on the quality of your phone line, and your own internal wiring.

  • Unlimited broadband

I signed up for a unlimited broadband office package and have found it's not unlimited even though I have never hit my fair usage policy I am still traffic managed because I am a high user (that why I went for unlimited)
I am capped between 6pm and midnight but this isn't due to fair usage policy but a separate policy (which is section B of the fair usage policy) stating that an unlimited account can be network managed if your a high user (why by unlimited if your not a high user?)
been trying to get my mac code for 2 days but because I am only a little business it takes twice as long.
This only came to light after complaining from October 2010 until a couple of days ago
and the service you get when you question their policy is beyond a joke 4 times phone put down on me, attitude of the customer services what a joke
