Inundated with 2.1

I'll take a couple of days to read what everyone has commented on the upgrade. One thing i noticed that I was curious to see if others experienced was it now seems I can adjust my volume on speaker to hear incoming calls apart from adjusting ringtone? I probably did not explain this right but before upgrade it was hear to hear incoming calls. Was this due to upgrade or me just finding out how to adjust? Thanks

man this is a big update, it fix A LOT of the problems that were on the iPhone, dropping calls, 3G signal, Battery life, Pass code issue and a lot lot of other fixes, u should get it...

  • If firefox automatically updates my computer past 3.6 I'm inundated with Script Freezes..how do I stop new automatic updates?

Everytime I'm automatically updated past 3.6 my computer is inundated with Script Freezes..especially on the email page of gmail.
This has happened many many times. As far as I can determine these Script Freezes (Says: A script is attempting to write on this page.."Continue"..Stop Script etc) are coming from Internet Explorer (I'm not sure of this) and it's tricky to delete any elements of Internet Explorer. But at any rate my computer freezes up until the Script problem is settled..I check the don't ask me again block..but it does no good.
My real question is: Since things work fine in 3.6...how can I avoid any automatic updates?
Also, why isn't there a Timer Window (or a timer bar)for Firefox?...sometimes I have to wait 5 minutes for it to load! If there was a timer at least I'd know that something is happening and I'd be willing to wait. When it does take forever to load..it seems to help if I delete all Prefetch and temporary files.
Is there a safe way of turning off Internet Explorer temporarily?
    Thanks for your help

I tried this today, and it is working now:
Click Firefox > Options > Options > Advanced ... then Uncheck the option "Use hardware acceleration when available"

  • Inbox inundated with iPhoto Discussions.

I have talked with Apple Care 3 times in the last 3 days, relative to iPhoto Discussions taking over my incoming Mail (v.4.5), and setting "Notifications". The last Agent (Case # 226704576), using Apple's Remote Control, didn't know the meaning (nor did I) of the Apple words used to describe the final "Yes-No"! I was instructed to leave the 2nd to last button checked YES. I did. The flood continues!
Please tell me which box of boxes should be checked so I can receive iPhoto Discussions Notifications appropriately.  At this moment, I have all boxes checked NO; yet the problem of flooding my inbox continues. How have you set your N otifications so that I can live with this Group?  I'll never be able to find your reply to my urgent need; how can I find your reply? I'll try seeking out the most recent.

    Thank you, Frantic Mom

OK; I finally found out how I lost two Reply posts to iPhoto Discussions!
After I had written two reply letters directed to the Group and Old Toad, I struck "add reply",  and a pink-highlighted 'error' came up. What had I done wrong? While searching on methods to get my two reply letters to iPhoto Discussions, I clicked on "Use Advanced Editor". My entire reply disappeared! I'm learning.

  • Inundated with spam... from myself?

Hi, over the last couple of days I've been inundated with spam, however these emails say they have been sent from me, plus a few other random @btinternet.com addresses. I'm not too technically minded when it comes to how email works but I'm worried that I might have some kind of virus that is sending spam from my account. However I only use webmail and never stay signed in and a virus scan has brought nothing up.
I've just looked now and the emails all seem to be going back and forth around the same 5 or so people... confusing.

Hi Mike. Welcome to the forums.
This sort if thing happens from time to time I'm afraid, and there is actually little that can be done to stop it. Spammers never use their own email addresses in the "reply-to" or "from" part of the message, and either spoof it or use some poor unfortunate person's actual address. Sometimes it can be malicious (but those are rare).
Typically these will show as undeliverable or return messages (would that be correct?), and some people have got 1000s or 10s of 1000s of them. These will usually dry up to a trickle and then stop after a while. You may also see the actual spam message as well, as your email address is in the list these spammers send to.
It is actually extremely unlikely that you have a virus/trojan doing this.
If you don't recognise any of the email addresses in the 5 people you've noticed, then you can ignore and delete the messages. If any are your contacts, then you might like to email them and inform them that a spammer may have got hold of account details (even yours) - and in this case change the password.
Sorry if this latter item may be a tad scary, but just giving some info on what has happened to some people.

  • So many problems, Super Slow, inundated with apps I never use, yet they still run, No Contract, Can I do something about this? Or am I destined to be contracted for the rest of my life?

I just want to own my phone.  I don't like the speed of it after 2 years, if it didn't have so much crap that I never use on it then at least I would know that it is degradation of the hardware and would renew contract and upgrade, but how can I justify that when it is more than likely the system software that is bogging the phone down.  Seriously I have lost all of my photos and videos, numerous times.  Had my 32g sd card wiped (required me to format it after the camera app saved a picture that was corrupt.  Aside from breaking my already broken (removed) phone, what are the downsides?  If I am going to end up renewing either way, why would you not try to salvage the already paid for device?  If verizon is unable to work with me on this should I take my business (customer since 2005, but lost my data plan so not real inclined to stay other than I've had zero problems in that time frame)  I am confused.  I don't want the hassle of having to change carriers, but my fear is that I will not be given an adequate option?  Any light that could be shone down upon this matter would be greatly appreciated.  and sorry, I know this is probably a hot topic (maybe not) but I just want some legit answers and HTC puts the blame square on Verizon.  Thanks

        beenycrocker,
I can understand having a phone that is in good working condition. I am sorry to hear about the SD card getting formatted. I use my phone as my digital camera now days. Have you tried to perform a factory reset on the device to see if that will help with the speed of the phone?
Good news! You can always upgrade to a new phone without having to sign a 2 year contact. We do have the great program that is called EDGE. With this program you would get a brand new device at full retail cost of the phone. But those payments are split up into 24 months. Once you have paid off more than 50% of the phone and had the EDGE for longer than 30 days you can trade in that phone and get a brand new device. You can see the full details on that plan here: www.verizonwireless.com/edge Please keep us posted.

  • Every time I chose an Email address at a location, while in Firefox, I am inundated with hundreds of tabs which makes me have to force quit........why?

when I chose an email address directly, while using firefox browser, it triggers an overflow of tabs, numbering in the hundreds. It makes me have to force quit firefox and I lose whatever I may be doing online. this is consistent for some months and I find it frustrating. I cannot use any other application on my computer until I force quit Firefox, as it takes precedent over the other apps. what might be the cause? thank you in advance for any help.

I'm not sure what you mean by choosing the email address directly. Are you clicking a link to create a new message? You might need to change your handler for email addresses here:
    Firefox > Preferences > Applications
In the search box, type or paste '''mailto''' and try changing the option in the right column to another mail program. If your mail program or webmail site is not listed and you would like to add it, please indicate which one you want to add.

  • San Rafael, CA--large residential area with NO cell, and NO data service--area rated by Verizon tech as "ALL COVERAGE BAD", multiple complaints--but no response by Verizon

    Dear Verizon Wireless Executives,
I am writing to let you know that I (and many of my neighbors) are on the verge of switching to ATT, due to terrible reception in my home neighborhood.
I moved to Dominican neighborhood in San Rafael in March 2014, where I bought a house. I discovered that Verizon cell service varies from non-existent to terrible, both for data and cell service. At best I might get 1x data, and 0 or 1 bar for cell. All calls are dropped within 15 seconds. Data typically does not work.
My response was to first purchase and install a network extender. However, due to the size and configuration of my home,  I discovered that I needed a second extender to cover the whole house. This has led to new problems—the two extenders “compete” and if I start a call in one part of the house and move 1 or 2 feet too far in the other direction, I lose the call.
ATT has a powerful cell tower on the ridge above my neighborhood, which consistently produces 5 bars. It sits on a ridge in the Marin Open Space, likely on an old Nike base radio tower. (there are numerous towers on this ridge as a result of the abandoned Nike missle site).
I have begun to organize in my neighborhood—Dominican/Black Canyon Home Owners Asssociation, with about 1200 homes. When I posted a message asking about other people’s experience with Verizon Wireless, I was inundated with at least 30 or 40 angry and frustrated messages from Verizon customers, on NextDoor, a neighborhood listserve.
Today I completed a long Verizon Wireless “trouble ticket”, number NRB000007366782. I was told that there have been many, many complaints from this neighborhood for both data and cell coverage, or more to the point, lack of coverage. Your records indicate that this neighborhood is considered within Verizon as a “1X marginalization area”. And yet ,  currently there is no plan at Verizon to remedy this situation.
I strongly encourage you to begin an immediate search for access to one of the many existing towers on the ridge above my house to place a Verizon cell station.
In the event that you choose to continue to ignore this neighborhood and it’s abysmal coverage, I will organize a mass defection of Verizon Wireless residents to switch to ATT. I encourage you to begin this process now, let me and the neighborhood know of your plans, and have it completed in six months. If we have  not heard from you within 1 month (November 21, 2014), we will switch to ATT en masse beginning in December.

That is not going to happen due to a myriad of reasons.
1- Verizon listed the area correctly. So its not deceiving the customers. So based on that I would have left for a better provider.
2- Verizon cannot just pop out and place service on any tower or property. They must gain permission to place signal towers in locations. They must secure the approval of villages, towns, cities or counties to even think of putting service towers up. This can take years.
Then if the approval is opposed and no other sites can be obtained your service stays as it is. This is not a carrier fault. Go after the town boards and elected officials that will not allow their placement.
And blame the majority of people who also oppose these towers etc. Based on scares of cancer, birth defects, and even people having seizures. Yep read up on it.
Your speaking for your neighbors is admirable but futile. You cannot get what you want in 6x6 months.

  • Macbook pro slow with 1tb external hard drive not fully utilized

I have a 13" macbook pro (late 2011 model) 8GB ram (1333mhz) and 500gb sata drive. I use photoshop CS6 and Lightroom quite frequently and all my images are stored on a 1tb external seagate drive. The drive is 70% full but the macbook is not able to open folders. The drive does show up in the finder but seems blank though all the files are on it. I do not keep much on my internal hard drive so the computer is not inundated with data in anyway. Please let me know how I can fix this

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
{ diskutil list; echo; diskutil cs list; } | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. If the command produced no output, the window will be empty. Post the contents of the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window), if any — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
If any personal information appears in the output, anonymize before posting, but don’t remove the context.

  • Safari doesn't work properly with Ebay

Safari doesn't work properly when listing items on Ebay. Fix it.

    Hi Occo
I would rather Apple updates Safari
Then tell Apple, this a user to user forum, although I don't think Apple will update just for your problem as hardly anybody is experiencing the same issue, just a couple on this troubleshooting forum.
this IS NOT A EBAY PROBLEM
Please don't use all caps, it is considered shouting. No this may well not be an ebay problem, but it is not a Safari issue either, it is an issue on your Safari and on your computer. Everyone I know has no trouble with ebay at all. In fact Safari 4.0.4 has made it even faster to log in and browse, buy etc.
id rather apple fixed their software
Again, tell Apple, not us, through the Apple feedback page or file a bug report. They will update Safari if and when they decide, but it will not be to fix what is not broken.
Im sure there would be similiar sites that arent compatible with safari
I agree, as stated before that some sites are just lazy in updating their coding, usually not the high traffic sites though. Other sites only update their code for Windows IE and forget the rest of the world. Firefox, Opera, Camino etc. also can't access some sites.
So in conclusion, try Safari and OSX maintenance and if that fails, then try an archive and install. Because there is nothing wrong with Safari 4.0.4 and ebay, or else this forum would be inundated with thousands upon thousands of users complaining and that is not the case.
    Cheers and Good Luck

  • Logs flooded with CGSResolveShmemReference when going from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8

Could someone please explain to me what changed with respect to "CGSResolvShmemReference" between 10.5.7 and 10.5.8.
I just upgraded to 10.5.8 earlier today and applied the latest security patch and I'm getting these messages in my logs:
CGSResolveShmemReference: reference offfset (xxxx) exceeds bounds (xxxx) on shmem obj 0x<hex number>.
I'm getting this from a LOT of apps, from the Dock, iMovie, iPhoto, iShowU, Firefox, Thunderbird, Finder, VirtualBox, etc etc
I have a large memory Mac Pro config that seemed to "behave" much better with 10.5.7 (I have 13GBs of RAM). I could run 4-5 Virtualbox guest VMs, multiple browsers, do screencapture of screencasts, edit the screencasts in iMove, run different browsers and email cients, etc etc, all without my mac breaking a sweat (well at least not a heavy sweat).
Now, nothing seems to behave. iMovie is unstable, firefox will slow down and speed up, thunderbird too, iShowU will have MISSING menu lists when selecting a menu drop down, iMovie will do the same, iPhoto doesn't seem to pick up all the albums I have, at least not between invocations consistantly, and I can't do the same tasks concurrently that I used to with 10.5.7 because of little quirks as previously explained or in the case of iShowU and/or iMovie, it will just crash.
10.5.8 from my perspective is JUNK because it makes me LESS productive than 10.5.7 with all these little inconnsistant application quirks that have started since I went to 10.5.8.
Ever since I upgraded, my apps have misbehaved and my logs are inundated with these messages so I have to believe the issues are related. I really don't want to re-install from scratch JUST to get back to 10.5.7....
Could someone please expalain... and please don't pull any punches (I'm technical).
    Bob

Of course not.  Computers always work perfectly.  Upgrades are always flawless.  User data is never lost.  Disks never fail.  Corruptions never occur.   Power is completely reliable.  :-)
But back here on Planet Earth, where bad things do occasionally happen to good data, yes, always have backups of your files.  At least the data that you care about.
The OS files?  Useful for fast(er) recoveries, but available from distributions if lost.  Those files can be recovered.  But your own unique user-local files?  Definitely have copies of those.
Somewhat more seriously, that you're even asking this question could imply you're not already running Time Machine or related archival processing; that you're not creating your own regular backups.  If that's the case, then your data is already exposed to corruption, loss, user error, and to intentional deletions that can sometimes be initiated by miscreants subsequent to a security breach.
But if you do have a Time Machine backup configured and going, you can directly trigger a backup to get the latest copies of the files (if you've been making any changes since the most recent TM backup) and allow it to run to completion, then do your upgrade.

  • Having issues with all net browsers eg. chrome, safari

Having issues with all my net browers eg. Chrome, Safari and FIrefox have been invaded by what appears to be a virus. It creates pop ups on random words on unrelated sites by colouring them blue or green and underlining them twice. It seems to be tagged Dropdown Coupons or something ......I am inundated with pics of Dr Oz and how to remove fat ........it is slowly taking over everything.
Anyone else had this bug....any idea how to get rid of it........have cleaned cookies. etc.......have tried uninstalling browsers and reinstalling to no avail........any help or advice would be great. I have no antivirus on my mac as have never needed any before
    cheers in advance

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache. In order to try to fix these problems, the first step is to clear both cookies and the cache.
Note: ''This will temporarily log you out of all sites you're logged in to.''
To clear cache and cookies do the following:
#Go to Firefox > History > Clear recent history or (if no Firefox button is shown) go to Tools > Clear recent history.
#Under "Time range to clear", select "Everything".
#Now, click the arrow next to Details to toggle the Details list active.
#From the details list, check ''Cache'' and ''Cookies'' and uncheck everything else.
#Now click the ''Clear now'' button.
Further information can be found in the [[Clear your cache, history and other personal information in Firefox]] article.

Is this relevant, and how can it be fixed? My syslog is growing abnormally large due to this.

I'm having the same onslaught of errors, with the 10 second hangs, also on 10.9.1. I did not have hardware acceleration enabled, and safe mode made no difference. Any ideas?

  • Is there a problem with the cookie settings in Safari 6?

Hoping someone can help me... I run a Shopify ecommerce store and am getting inundated with Safari customers complaining about their shopping carts being emptied before they have completed their shopping.  Shopify have washed their hands of the problem, claiming that it is the cookie settings in Safari.  This has never happened before (I have Safari 5 on my Mac and it works perfectly fine). Shopify has told me I need to tell all my customers to change their cookie settings which is mission impossible - most of them wouldn't even know what cookies are let alone be willing to start playing around with their settings.  And what about all the customers I'm losing who aren't complaining to me?  Those who are just getting peeved off with my webstore not working and shopping elsewhere? Please tell me this is a bug that Safari are working on?  I'm pretty lost as to what I can do to fix the problem?

I can't see any links for yoursitename.myshopify.com/somepage though, they seem to all be organicexpress.co.nz/somepage however when I first set up my shopify site it was organic-express.myshopify.com. I thought it might be the cart page still set at the shopify domain but it doesn't seem to be.
The thing that is puzzling me most is that this problem only began happening about 4-5 weeks ago.  Prior to that, my regular customers who use Safari weren't having any problems.  Another thing too, sometimes it does work - perhaps if the customer completes their order under a certain time frame or perhaps only purchases a few items?  Most of my customers buy 15+ items per order.
