Invalid 169.* IP Address  (DHCP error)

Hi,
At my company we have a 3com wireless and I can connect but I cannot get a valid ip address. I have already tried that:
- Reset networking settings.
- ifconfig en0 (down/up)
- changing the MTU to 1400
- reboot the iPhone
- DHCP and Static IP (valid one)
My wireless is channel 6, ap mode 2 and WEP.
If I go to other places ( house, restaurants etc) I can easily connect!
Tks for any idea.
Regards,
Fernando

As you no doubt know, 169.* is a self-assigned address when DHCP doesn't work.
I haven't found any good way around that, but I'm replying to at least sympathize.
1) Rebooting the company router might work.
2) If you meant a static IP also failed to connect, that sounds more like a passcode mismatch or something. Is it a secured network?
Luck!

  • Cannot start iChat with friend - receive error "Invalid remote IP address"

    I'm having trouble connecting to iChat with friend. We are both using AIM accounts and click on connect. The other person accepts the invitation and iChat tries to connect. It fails and I receive the error message, "invalid remote IP address". I'm am using Mac OS X Tiger while my friend has Leopard. Does that make a difference? I appreciate any feedback.

    The Leopard end should make sure that in System Preferences > Sharing has Internet Sharing Off.
    Also they should not be connected to the Internet twice such as Wifi and Ethernet to the same router.
    Using Parallels in Leopard causes a similar issue.
    In this case turn Off the two VPNs in System Preferences > Network (and set Parallels itself to get it's Own IP and not share the Mac's)
    Some MIMO modem or Wifi routers can cause this.
    Get a new modem or router is the simple answer to that one.

  • Invalid server IP address for Remote Panels under LV 8.0.1

    The other messages for troubleshooting the "invalid server IP address" were very helpful with getting my EXE to operate as a remote panel.  But there is still one issue that I cannot resolve that seems to be caused by the 8.0.1 upgrade.
    The remote panel work perfectly using IE6 on a computer that has the LV 8.0.1 FDS or PDS installed.  When I use a computer that has LV 7.1 or no LV at all, the invalid server IP address appears inside the border of where the VI should appear on the HTML page.  The connection to the remote computer is correct, the HTML file is delivered by the web server in LV, but the panel part of the page returns the error.
    Does the part of the HTML that loads the Run Time Engine need to be updated for 8.0.1?  Will the LV 8.0 RTE work for a remote panel on an EXE compiled for LV 8.0.1?
    The code is:
    var obj = '<OBJECT ID="LabVIEWControl" CLASSID="CLSID:A40B0AD4-B50E-4E58-8A1D-8544233807AD" WIDTH=1216 HEIGHT=915 CODEBASE="ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/labview/runtime/windows/8.0';
    if (lng.indexOf("fr") != -1) { obj = obj + '/French'; }
    else if (lng.indexOf("de") != -1) { obj = obj + '/German'; }
    else if (lng.indexOf("ja") != -1) { obj = obj + '/Japanese'; }
    obj = obj + '/LVRunTimeEng.exe">';

    Thanks for the suggestion, Tunde.  After further experimentation, it seems that 8.0.1 was not the problem.  I worked perfectly when I removed the <parameter server=...  > line that I added manually.

    Im currently using a ubee wireless router
    my OS is Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
    My printer is able to connect to my router however it is assiged a 169 ip address, therefore my computer is unable to connect to the printer. Before I was even able to connect my printer to the network I had to disable my mac filtering on my router settings because my printer told me to do so on a wireless test report, but its been an ongoing issue where if its not the IP address its something wrong with the MAC filtering. I feel like im going in circles. Please HELP!!

    No it is not connecting to your router as the printer has an invalid IP.    What procedure are you following in the manual and the support HP web site to get connected??
    Say thanks by clicking the Kudos Thumbs Up to the right in the post.

    =========================================================================Do we have to make any changes on other config files except the imta.cnf and mappings file for inbound and outbound..
    thanks for any help
    Edited by: prasad0_0 on Jul 8, 2008 4:58 AM

    i have already setup the messaging server 6 months back.. followed the same procedure to route mails to a gateway..
    made changes to the imta.cnf for outbound mail flow to the tcp_local and mappings file to accept inbound mail flow from the gateway. Its working perfectly on the older setup, but this now, have issues with new setup.
    here is the imta.cnf file..

    <IMTA_TABLE:mappings.localewe are able to receive mails from the gateway, but when using uwc to send the mail, the mail doesnt hit the gateway. trying a telnet from the messaging server to the gateway, works perfectly.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    I was doing a bit of multitasking, and the kernel ran out of SWAP and crashed. After reboot everything is borked. Every program I had open prior to crash wont start or crashes soon after opening. (Chromium, Clementine, Terminal, Smuxi, VMware...). The error is either segmentation fault or some weird error.

    Try downgrading libxcursor back to 1.1.14-1
    There are several posts here about segfaults being caused by the upgrade libxcursor (1.1.14-1 -> 1.1.14-2)
    The first few results of a search for libxcursor will give more details.

  • Photosmart B110a has 169 ip address

    My router has given the printer a 169 ip address. I would like to create a static ip because this keeps happening and the printer has become unreliable. I have tried all of the switch off/switch on routines but they do not work.The solution offered for setting static addresses seems reasonable except for the fact that I have a 169 address and so cannot access the interface for changing the ip address.I am using Windows 7.It has become a very circular problem and I cannot seem to get through this no matter where I look. I have been wrestling with this for hours.If anyone could point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

    Hi High1, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    The 169.254.x.x addy simply means it's not getting any addy from a DHCP Server at all.
    Is the network encrypted? WEP? WPA?
    Op[en Internet Connect, click on 802.1x icon, Choose Ethernet for Network Port, fill in info... does that work or give any more clues?
    Is it that the Mac is trying to remember a previous location (she sometimes takes it hope and logs on to her home ISP there). If so, how can I delete these previous locations?
    If you feel that is the case, Trash these files & reboot...

  • Invalid I/O node config error while passing project reservations to APO

    Guys,
    I had created a Project with WBS Element, Network & Internal activity in ECC Project Systems. This data was ciffed and seen in APO without any issue.
    Upon creating a Material component, as a reservation, under network activity in PS and releasing it, there is an error in the APO side log(SLG1) as shown below.

    Would appreciate if any one can provide with info on why  this error is being produced and ways to resolve it!!!
    Thanks

    please check if you have any issues under network activity..if you could not find any please try to debug the failed queue with the help of your Abap counterpart. here is the process

  • "Server either does not have a virtual switch configured or none of the configured virtual switches have an IP address assigned" error driving me nuts!

    OK; have been trying to setup a test VM based RDS deployment for a few days now with no luck.
    this error mentioned above:
    "Server <server name> either does not have a virtual switch configured or none of the configured virtual switches have an IP address assigned" error is driving me nuts!
    I have removed and re-added the RD Virtualization Host role numerous times, each time having the "create a virtual switch" checkbox selected, but it did NOT create any virtual switch.
    I created the external virtual switch manually and tried to create the desktop collection again, no luck with the same error.
    a few questions:
    1. you don't assign IP to a switch! you assign IP to Network Interfaces. why does the error puts it like this?! it is technically wrong.(yeah yeah I know all about how you'd assign IP to managed switches in real world to telnet into them and manage them.
    you know better than me that it is not the case here!)
    2.the RDS Virtualization hosts are using their wifi card as the card for the virtual switch. could that be the reason? I even disabled their unplugged wired NIC just to make sure that the wifi is the only available option for the RDS wizard to use for the
    virtual switch creation; but it didn't use it and it didn't create any virtual switch automatically.
    3.if WIFI nic is indeed the reason, is it your suspension or an official documents is there somewhere stating so (that the WIFI NICS on a Virtualization hosts are not supported as the hub for a virtual switch).
    4.what are the properties of the virtual switch the RDS requires? does it have to be external? why can't it work even with my manually created external switch?
    5.how would I fix it?
    P.S: the environment is made up of 2 laptops, having windows 2012 R2 trial installed on them, using their wifi to connect to the out world. no cable is plugged into their wired NIC card.

    Hi,
    Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
    The simplest short term solution was to connect each computer to a small switch that had no other connectivity. This brought up the link light on the external NIC and allowed the creation of the collection to complete. You need to use an external switch. You
    can create one external switch which might fix the problem.
    Please check below article for information.
    VDI Deployment Error About Virtual Switch
    In addition please referthis article for information regarding virtual switch.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • Invalid application discriptor: Unknown namespace error

    Hi all I am using flash Builder 4.6. I am working on google eyes project, this was created on flex 3.1 but I am using flash builder so I need to update it's sdk so i update it's sdk to 4.6.0, here I am getting an compilation error. Invalid application discriptor:Unkown namespace error

    It seems like you  have replaced the folder, /Applications/Adobe\ Flash\ Builder\ 4.7/eclipse/plugins/com.adobe.flash.compiler_4.7.0.349722/AIRSDK
    This folder is used when creating an ActionScript project or ActionScript Mobile project. However, for a Flex Project, the SDK used is the same as used to be previously, /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7/sdks/4.6.0/ in your case. You will either need to use a ActionScript project or overlay the Flex SDK present at /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder 4.7/sdks/4.6.0/ with the AIR SDK you wish to use.
    You can find instructions for the same at:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/how-overlay-air-sdk-flex-sdk.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-builder/kb/overlay-air-sdk-flash-builder.html

  • Invalid B-tree node size error & updating OS

    I was toying around with the idea of updating my OS to 10.4 and increasing my storage capacity. A welcome upgrade to an old system that has been very good to me....until now.
    The short version is that I am experiencing quite a bit of directory damage (for the full story, read below). After researching hundreds of posts here, I think my best bet is to purchase Disk Warrior. My question is, which version should a purchase? As a result of the work I've explained below, my system is currently running the version installed from my OSX Install CD. I'm not sure what version this is, but my Mac came with CDs for OS9, OSX, and an upgrade to 10.2.8. Is there a version of Disk Warrior that will support 10.2-10.4? I want to fix the current issues but still be able to use this software when (or IF) I upgrade.
    I'm happy to provide any info needed and appreciate ANY help. Thanks,
    On a routine startup I encountered the stalled progress indicator (spinning gear) and its been downhill from there. I've scoured the Mac forums here for possible fixes, but so far nothing has been able to completely solve my problem. Here's a brief rundown of what I have done so far:
    1) Booted from OSX Install CD and ran disk utility. This verified I had catalog and node errors that could not be repaired.
    2) Ran Apple Hardware test from CD. Everything was fine.
    3) Ran TECHTool Pro that came with my AppleCare CD and identified similar errors but could not repair them. At this point I also got an "Invalid Sibling Link" error.
    Finally I decided that the data I had saved on my HD was not crucial so I would attempt a reinstall of the OS and lose what was not backed up. So I:
    5) Performed reinstall from OSX Install CD.
    6) Ran Disk Utility, all was fine.
    At this point I was able to run programs and boot up normally. Of course this was too good to be true, and it was, because subsequent restarts gave me even more errors! I was again experiencing the freeze at startup, although this time I was getting the Mac computer logo with smiley face icon for all eternity.
    7) Again booted from OSX Install CD and ran Disk Utility. I'm now getting an "Invalid B-tree node size" error. I;ve tried all the cycles with repair utilities to no avail. I am also unable to start up in single user mode so I'm stuck.

    iMac G4 Flat Panel   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   Purchased 2002

    Thanks! I will order DW and give it a try...
    I have run the Apple Hardware diagnostic CD twice (at different points in this process) and everything has come back cleanly. I am fairly certain this is a directory issue, but we'll wait and see. At the very least I will have DW to back up any future systems.
    This is sortof off topic, but what is the general service fee for visiting the Genius Bar? I consulted a Mac pro there to discuss an upgrade to my system, but there was no charge. I find this hard to believe...does anyone know? I can't seem to find anything online...

  • Invalid Volume Free Block Count Error In Disk Utility

    My Ti-Book has been acting very strange lately so I decided to run the Verify Disk Option in the Disk Utility program. When I ran it, I got a series of messages in red that were:
    Volume Bit Map Needs Minor Repair
    Invalid volume free block count
    Error: The Underlying Task reported failure on exit
    When the verify disk function completed, I was asked to enter my administrator password. When I entered it and clicked on Okay, the Disk Utility program froze up and I had to restart.
    What do the two error messages mean? How do I repair my disk?

    Hi, WTM. The Verify Disk routine in Disk Utility is almost never worth running. It does the same error-detection tasks as the Repair Disk routine, but then it doesn't repair any errors that it finds.
    Start up from your Tiger installer DVD, open Disk Utility, select your hard drive, and run the Repair Disk routine. If you get the same "task reported failure on exit" message, you'll need a stronger directory-repair utility like DiskWarrior, or you'll need to erase your hard drive completely and reinstall everything on it.

  • I can't get rid of 169 ip addresses on devices

    I am having problems with computers and iOS devices using a 169.x.x.x address instead of the DCHP address supplied by Charter. This started just recently. The only thing that has changed is I installed Lion a few weeks back.
    I have gone through three modems or modem/router combos. Two different motorola modem/routers and now the rented modem only motorola from Charter. None of that made a difference.
    I have removed all AppleTV’s from the network. I have replaced a hub switch with another one. I have reset computers, renewed leases, started with one device and added more and tested each one. Nothing really seems to work.
    This is what I have right now. My main work computer is hard wired to the modem via the switch and is connected to the internet. The family computer is also hard wired and is getting the 169 address. I have two network printers that both are not working. You can see them but you can’t print to them. My iphone and ipad are not working right now because I took the Airport Xtreme router offline to solve the problem.
    Now I am at the end of my rope. Any thoughts on these last two ideas.
    1. Get a static IP from charter and assign my own addresses.
    2. Use my Airport Extreme as the next device after the modem and in place of my switch.
    Any thoughts?
    Shawn

    #2 is the right idea. You need to reconnect AirPort Extreme even if you're not using Wi-Fi.
    Your computers and printers used to get their LAN IP addresses from AirPort Extreme. With that out of the picture, those systems and peripherals self-assign 169.* addresses.
    For Charter to be happy, only one device should request an IP address from the cable modem. In your configuration, that should be your AirPort Extreme. Whenever you change the device that's plugged into the modem, you may need to power down your modem for as long as 30 minutes to get it to recognize the new configuration.
    Here's how things should probably be wired:
    AirPort Extreme WAN port->cable modem
    AirPort Extreme LAN port->LAN switch
    Desktops, AppleTV, printers, etc.->LAN switch / Wi-Fi
    If you have enough Ethernet ports on your AirPort Extreme to accommodate all your devices, skip the switch and do this:
    AirPort Extreme WAN->cable modem
    Desktops, AppleTV, printers->AirPort Extreme LAN ports / Wi-Fi
    If these arrangements seem not to work, reset your AirPort Extreme to its factory settings, cycle power on the cable modem and AirPort Extreme and try again.
    Best of luck to you.

  • UTL.MAIL error ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 Address Syntax Error in

    Hi,
    I am new to the forum so please excuse if I post incorrectly without conforming to the standards.
    We need to send mails using the UTL.MAIL package and have installed them on the database.
    Whenever I am trying to send an email I am getting the following error:
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-29279: SMTP permanent error: 501 Address Syntax Error in
    [email protected]
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 654
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_MAIL", line 671
    ORA-06512: at line 2
    The test code which I am running is as follows:
    BEGIN
    UTL_MAIL.send(sender => 'test <[email protected]>',
    recipients => '[email protected]',
    subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
    message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
    END;
    I have tried different combinations:
    BEGIN
    UTL_MAIL.send(sender => 'test "<[email protected]>"',
    recipients => '[email protected]',
    subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
    message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
    END;
    even tried
    BEGIN
    UTL_MAIL.send(sender => '[email protected]',
    recipients => '[email protected]',
    subject => 'UTL_MAIL test subject',
    message => 'UTL_MAIL test body');
    END;
    Everytime I am getting the same error.
    This seems to be working with an exchange mail server but never on the SMTP server.
    In the SMTP server logs the sender address is not having the angular brackets <> unlike the other mails which are being sent over.
    It seems that the SMTP server is pretty strict and the SMTP admin will not change any settings on the server.
    The oracle version is as follows
    Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.1.0 - 64bit Production
    Could you please help me out with a solution.
    Some how the angular brackets are geting stripped off (which UTL MAIL package generally does), Is there any way in which I can include the angular brackets.

    I dislike UTL_MAIL - clunky and poor abstraction interface, and not well written.
    Had a look at the code. It does this:
    WHILE (ALL_RCPTS IS NOT NULL) LOOP
          UTL_SMTP.RCPT(MAIL_CONN,'&lt;' || GET_ADDRESS(ALL_RCPTS) || '&gt;');
    END LOOP;The GET_ADDRESS() function process the ALL_RCPTS parameter, returns the 1st address from it, and updates the (in/out) parameter with the remaining string.
    SQL> var address varchar2(200);
    SQL> exec :address := '<[email protected]>,[email protected]';
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> exec dbms_output.put_line( 'get_address='||UTL_MAIL.GET_ADDRESS(:address)||' address='||:address );
    get_address=[email protected] address=[email protected]
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> exec dbms_output.put_line( 'get_address='||UTL_MAIL.GET_ADDRESS(:address)||' address='||:address );
    get_address=[email protected] address=
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL> The address is explicitly surrounded by brackets as per the RFC. So that is what your SMTP server should see.
    If not - perhaps then our UTL_MAIL versions do not match. Cannot recall from what version I pulled and unwrapped the UTL_MAIL package code I have.
    Personally though, I've ceased using UTL_MAIL a while back. It lacks in may respects. I have written my own mail package that supports multiple attachment, complex Mime formatting, attachments of 20+ MB in size, and so on - running on the UTL_SMTP interface (that provides the transport layer for sending mail). And for issues like you are facing, I suggest considering using UTL_SMTP directly.

    (Updated the code with HTML entity names to get the code snippet to render correctly)
