Invalid Directory

I am receiving the following error after receivng countless ones telling me my drive was corrupted and needed to be repaired after upgrading to Mountain Lion.  I rebooted in safe mode and it now gives me this error when verifying my disk:
Invalid Directory Item Count
(it should be 929 instead of 930)
The disk was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Anyone know of a fix for this if so thanks in advance for your assistance.

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.

  • Imac G5 will not start up correctly? invalid directory count 52 instead of 53

Hi, i have a Imac G5. it had been working fine for many years untill a year or 2 ago when it stopped all of a sudden and just would not start up as it should. instead, it went to this grey screen with horizontal lines. eventually after trying just about every combination of keys held down on startup, the only way i could get the mac to restart was by starting it in safe mode. (at this point i rescued all my photos and music and moved them onto my macbook pro) i thought it was working fine in safe mode untill i realised that it could not connect to the internet, the sound would not work at all, and when i went to preferances it could not find any output device for the sound. it also keeps coming up with a message saying that my internet communication device does not exist. allot of the programs worked fine, such as word, or photoshop, whereas others would not. i verified the disk, and discored that it would not let me repair it.

I'd have guess you reformated at that time. The file system is messed up.  You need to reformat.
Format a disk using the installation DVD
To format  the startup drive, you will need to run disk utility from your installation DVD.

  • Invalid Directory Error Message when using DOS

I've recently installed version 1.4 SDK on my Windows 95 machine.
When I type cd c:\java in MS DOS at the prompt, I keep getting the message "Invalid Directory" and can't move forward from there to C:\java>.
The SDK is correctly installed on my C: drive, so I don't understand why the directory location isn't understood.
Could it have to do with the PATH? I followed the installation instructions below, but wonder if I need to type SET PATH=...before the text of the suggested PATH statement below.
Windows 98, Windows 95 - To set the PATH permanently, open the AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add or change the PATH statement as follows:
Start the system editor. Choose "Start", "Run" and enter sysedit, then click OK. The system editor starts up with several windows showing. Go to the window that is displaying AUTOEXEC.BAT
Look for the PATH statement. (If you don't have one, add one.) If you're not sure where to add the path, add it to the right end of the PATH. For example, in the following PATH statement, we have added the bin directory at the right end:
    PATH C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\JDK1.4\BIN
Capitalization doesn't matter. The PATH can be a series of directories separated by semi-colons (;). Microsoft Windows searches for programs in the PATH directories in order, from left to right. You should only have one bin directory for a Java SDK in the path at a time (those following the first are ignored), so if one is already present, you can update it to jdk1.4.
To make the path take effect in the current Command Prompt window, execute the following:
    C:> c:\autoexec.bat
To find out the current value of your PATH, to see if it took effect, at the command prompt, type:
    C:> path

I am having the same issue.
At the command prompt, any attempt to enter the "jdk1.3.1" directory returns "invalid directory".
Sadly, your post is old, and noone but me has replied.
Since I'm DOS ignorant, and it is emulated DOS anyway...
I don't know how to resolve this.
Two uninstall/reinstall cycles to try and correct the issue- no dice.
    Responses, please!

You'll need to create an Oracle Directory object that contains 'C:\SQL' and use that in your UTL_FILE call if you are using a 10g+ version of the database and the UTL_FILE_DIR parameter does not include your path.
    CREATE DIRECTORY my_dir AS 'C:\SQL';
GRANT READ WRITE ON DIRECTORY my_dir TO <user>;You can then use the directory object name in the path of your UTL_FILE call.
ORA-29280: invalid directory path Cause: A corresponding directory object does not exist.
Action: Correct the directory object parameter, or create a corresponding directory object with the CREATE DIRECTORY command.>
    Hope this helps!

when i try log transfer from a sony nex-vg10 but my buddy can do it with no problem on my cam an mac

If you copy the recordings from AVCHD cameras, you must copy the entire storage device with its directory structure intact.
I have even tried copying BACK files onto the camera and they do not show up in the transfer window under the last clip.
There is no information for those clips in the AVCHD storage device's directory index files. That means there is no way for the computer to find them.
Your last resort is most likely [ClipWrap|http://www.divergentmedia.com/clipwrap] now, unless you can get the storage device exactly back into the state it is supposed to be according to the index file.

  • Anyone know what 'Invalid directory structure ' means?

    Hi
I am trying to solve a problem with some P2 media I am trying to import from external hard drive to FCP 5.1.2.
I have 21 reels of it - all labeled in a similar way - but only one (of the 21) isn't importing and gives me the following warning (from FCP).
"name of my folder/ reel" has invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches the supported media.
I suppose it has something to do with my folder/ directory not matching the contents (for some reason) but how can I correct this?
    Thanks
    macbookpro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Archive and install would be the only advice I could give at this time, It's missing a critical leopard file.

  • Invalid Directory Structure Error

So I recently purchased a Panasonic AG-HMC40 and it's my first experience with a non tape camera. When I tried to get the footage onto my computer Final Cut wouldn't recognize it. It worked in iMovie but I would rather not lose quality by transferring it through that first. When I try to open the folder within the log and transfer screen I get an error message that says that it contains unsupported media or "Invalid Directory Structure." I'm on FCP 6.0.5.

    I quite believe it.
Can you exactly describe what you're doing and how FCE behaves?
Do you see a preview of the clips after connecting the camera?
Try to import using iMovie, when this works, it should in FCE somehow, too.
I googled a bit around and found someone having the same problem (but unfortunately in german language).
He has formatted the SD card using the camera, then it worked. But the clips beeing on the SD card before are still lost. But if you backup before, you can convert the .mts files into .mov and then import it into FCE.
Some other possible source of errors:
    - is the HF 100 power cable connected for transfer? (it has to be)
    - did you see the "mode selection" screen when connecting to your Mac?
    - if yes, did you select the "PC mode" there?
    - does the USB port you are using work with other devices?
    - can you try using an SD Card reader instead of the camera?
    - do you see the camera device icon after connecting to your mac?
    - can you try it on another Mac if it works? (if not, it may be a manufacturing issue)
    At moment no more ideas...

  • "Invalid directory" message in Mail

Mail stopped working for me recently so I tried everything I could think of to get it to re-recognize my account.
Out of desperation, I disabled that mail account, and created another thinking that something in the preferences was hosed. I have 4 other old, and no longer used mail accounts that have also been disabled.
My problem now is that I cannot get either the old, or the new mail account to work, as it appears they are in conflict with each other.
When I try to enable either account, I get the message...
    "Invalid directory"
"the account path, Users/me/Library/Mail/Mac-<my account name> is already being used by the account ".Mac Account"."
Is there some way that I can edit the account information to blow away the old inactive accounts (all of them), as well as the hosed active accounts and start fresh?
I REALLY don't want to have to continue to use the (SLOW) webmail beta.

Do you want to delete the accounts & all Mail they have, instead of the Disable account?

  • Solution for invalid directory item count, startup disk corruption and regular crashes

    Hi,
My late 2006 MacBook (10.6.8) has recently started crashing quite frequently. The screen becomes dark and a multi-language dialogue appears stating that the computer must be restarted with the power button. When this occurs any audio which was playing begins to repeat/skip and the computer goes into complete lockdown. This is now happening perhaps twice a day or more under moderate use.
This morning I ran 'Verify Disk' in Disk Utility and the process was stopped, stating that I had two 'Invalid directory item counts' and 'the volume Macintosh
HD was found to be corrupt'. Here is a screenshot of the Disk Utility window:
I have rebooted, run a software update and rerun the disk verification but to no avail. I also booted using CMD-S, advised by an older post in another forum which suggested using 'fsck -yf' which ran and stated that the disk had been repaired.
I bought the MacBook second hand from an Apple dealer but it didn't come with an install disc so I am unable to reboot and repair the disk like that.
My questions, therefore, are what does this mean for my computer in the future, will either of these issues cause me more trouble?
What can I do about it without the install disc
And are these issues directly related to the crashes? (I have been running the computer connected to an external drive and monitor - for watching movies)
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
    Twitch

Not much you can do without an install disc which can be purchased from Apple Store >  Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.)
    multi-language dialogue appears
That is referred to as a kernel panic. OS X: About kernel panics
Regardless of the kernel panics, you will still need the install disc to repair and reinstall OS X if necessary.
And are these issues directly related to the crashes? (I have been running the computer connected to an external drive and monitor - for watching movies)
Could be part of the problem.

  • Invalid Directory Path

    Hi,
When I execute a procedure as shown below i use to get an error as
    <b> "invalid directory path"</b>
    exec emp_details('c:\emp\test.txt',100);
The first parameter is the the path where file is stored and the other parameter is the emp code.
After executing the procedure the error message is,
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-29280: invalid directory path
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_FILE", line 18
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.UTL_FILE", line 424
    ORA-06512: at "emp_details", line 34
    ORA-06512: at line 1
but actually the file is located in the mentioned path but still the error occurs.
Please help me in this regard.

    Hello
Did you create a directory object or are you relying on utl_file_dir?
You may need to upper case the path if you are using a directory object (I think). Also, utl_file.f_open takes in the path AND the file name, not just the file name on it's own. Are you correctly splitting the file name from the path?
It might help if you can show the relevant parts of the procedure that are failing.

The correct thing to do is to create a directory object e.g.:
CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY mydir AS 'c:\myfiles';Note: This does not create the directory on the file system. You have to do that yourself and ensure that oracle has permission to read/write to that file system directory.
Then, grant permission to the users who require access e.g....
GRANT READ,WRITE ON DIRECTORY mydir TO myuser; Then use that directory object inside your FOPEN statement e.g.
fh := UTL_FILE.FOPEN('MYDIR', 'myfile.txt', 'r');Note: You MUST specify the directory object name in quotes and in UPPER case for this to work as it is a string that is referring to a database object name which will have been stored in uppercase by default.
p.s. as already mentioned by others, this directory must be on your Oracle database server. You can only access client directories if the server itself has a mapping to the client machine itself. Don't expect to provide a path and for the process to access the local client machine of whoever uses it.
