Invalid Key - Quicktime Pro 7

I purchased quicktime pro 7 in January 2008. Today I had to reinstall some software on my PC - including Quicktime, yet when I enter the registration key I get an message stating 'invalid key'. I checked to make sure that the key is correct (from the Apple Store), but have entered the correct details. I've also downloaded direct from the website to ensure that I have the most up todate version.
Can anyone help?
thanks

You,Sir, are "The Man"! I followed the instructions and - viola - Joy in Mudville. Thank you, keep up the great work. Even the "Apple" people don't seem to know this. I was on the phone with them, passed from one to another, for over an hour. While waiting I stumbled on your advise and I was made free! If they ask you, charge them a mint for the information. You Sir have gone where no Apple has gone before.

  • Invalid key for Quicktime Pro

Okay, I'm feeling pretty irate right now after paying out £20 for a product key which was emailed to me for 'instant access' but doesn't bleeding work... Having followed the simple steps, I pasted in my key and got the message 'invalid key' instead of 'Quicktime Pro 7' or whatever...
Will someone here, or someone at Apple please explain to me how in God's name that can happen!
There was something I needed to do with it before the night is over - yet now obviously I can't and what's more I am 20quid out of pocket!
If someone at Apple is reading, I suggest you call or, at the very least, email me with some form of apology for this situation.
    Answers please...

Well, having waited til daybreak to call the support line, I found out that the key alone will not validate the product - you have to enter the name of the person who ordered and paid for it (in this case me) but exactly as they wrote in in the email... I had neglected to put a '.' after 'Mr' and hence the whole thing didn't work. Add the dot, and hey presto...
The guy on the line was very cordial about it but did mention that they get this 'all the time'...
Apple take note... You should make that clearer - especially since my account is in my name - the Mr was selected from a scroll-down menu - and since many people don't even use the dot any more - well it can be confusing...

  • Quicktime Pro Key Invalid

After a reboot, Quicktime pro has become quicktime. No pro. I looked up my registration key, compared it to what was typed in - exactly the same. Copied and pasted back in - still invalid. I have 7.1.5 and am wondering if the update has nulled the 7 registration.

Make sure you're entering in both the user name and key code exactly as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to error.
If that still doesn't work, try trashing the QuickTime preferences and then re-enter your key.

  • Can my QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows License key be transferred to my new Mac

I have used QuickTime Pro on Windows for the past 8-10 months.
I have now moved from Windows to Mac. However, the Pro registration key is invalid on the Mac because it is Windows-specific.
Will Apple convert my Windows key to a Mac key, or do I need to purchase a separate license for QT 7 Pro for Mac?

I bought the $30 Quicktime Pro license when I had windows and now I have switched to mac and want to continue to use Quiktime Pro. I put in the license and it didn't work. I later realized why as the user above has, and it makes no sense.
Apple should provide a work-around for this. It is not logical to make people pay more than once if they change operating systems but wish to continue using their online purchase. The download of the Quicktime client is free anyway, it is only the online pro license key which I paid for that costs money. So there is no reason to make people pay twice. That's bad business and while some companies might have this flaw, it is far from the standard for a well organized company.
Normally when you buy a license for software online, whether that be a game or whatever you pay for the account license and then you can download whichever client you need for free. If you switch to mac or windows or whatever, your account is still good. So with apple you can download the right client for free as with others, but if you switch to mac you must pay for the license again because they keys are not consolidated into one system, even though the client is still a free download. This makes no sense economically whatsoever as the user only wants to continue to use what they have paid for at no additional cost to they company.
Apple should either consolidate all the Quicktime Pro keys to one system or the sales department should offer a workaround of some sort. This is just not logical and for the online license key model of business and is just bad business relations as well.

  • Quicktime pro registration key fails to work

I tried to reinstall quicktime. I tried to ask apple support for a new key, or to find the defect in the key they gave me. After 48 hours I'm still waiting for a reply. The only thing I received until now was a confirmation of my order from my local applestore. The only thing that appears, after I type in my key, is "invalid registration", right beside the "buy quicktime pro" button. Does anyone know how I can adjust this?

Thank you for the response. I've copied and pasted the name and number from the original electronic purchase page (I NEVER got an email from Apple confirming purchase) and I still get invalid registration. I'm an 18 year Mac user, video editor, graphic artist, music producer, college prof in TV Prod and photography, with extensive experience troubleshooting Mac problems. but I'm dead in the water on this one. Any more suggestions? I don't have a Mac email account set up. I'm going through Comcast, and when I try to set up Mac email, the Preferences choice in the Mac Mail program is alwasy ghosted, so I can't get past step one there. Any suggests there? Could that be an issue here? Thanks Kirk.

  • Quicktime Pro Windows - Invalid Registration

Hi, I couldn't find anything about this, so I'm trying here. Mods, please move in the right area.
I bought a QuickTime Pro key for Windows back in 2004. It's no longer appearing in my order history and apparently Apple got rid of the purchased software page that had the key.
I do have my old email for it but when I enter that information it says "invalid registration key"
Anyone have any ideas what to do? I can't seem to contact Apple support about it either. There's never an option for this...
    Thanks!

Make sure you're entering in _both_ the user name and key code _exactly_ as in the email Apple sent you. Any error in either, including leaving off a salutation (for instance, if the email says "Mr. John Smith") will cause the registration to fail.
Also make sure you did indeed purchase a key for Windows. QuickTime keys are not cross-platform.
    Hope this helps.

  • Quicktime pro registration is invalid

Each time I enter my quicktime registration details it states that it is invalid. Has anyone had a similar experience and know what to do? I have checked and double checked taht I have enetered them correctly

If your QuickTime Pro key is for QuickTime 6 or the Mac OS X version of QuickTime 7, it won't work. Otherwise, the name and key need to be entered exactly as specified, including spacing and capitalization.

  • HT3820 Quicktime Pro Invalid registration message

I purchased Quicktime Pro 7 upgrade (Mac OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard)  I'm entering my name and product Registration Code EXACTLY as I received it in my e-mail.  I then hit TAB as instructed.  It still comes up with "Invalid Registration"
I've also used copy & paste from my registration email to make sure I am entering the information correctly.

Are you sure you purchased a key for Mac and not for Windows? QT keys are not cross-platform.

  • Quicktime Pro Registration Key Problem

I recently upgraded my laptop to a MacBookPro, and I am trying to transfer my Quicktime Pro registration key onto my new computer, but when it keeps telling me that I'm using an invalid registration number. Any ideas?

This may not work in later versions of iTunes that import both sound and video.
In version 2, which is what I use, I just have to go to the Advance menu and choose "Convert to AIFF" and then navigate to the movie file. iMovie should be able to import the AIFF format but you may have to first go to the iTunes preferences and set the Importing section to AIFF. Afer the import you should be able to use "Show Song File" to open the directory in which it has been placed. Put a copy in a convenient place for import into iMovie.

  • QUICKTIME PRO registration key totally fails to work (please help!!!!!!!!!)

I've been trying for days now, but reinstalling quicktime 7 hasn't worked, as well as asking apple support for a new registration key. the one i have now doesn' t make any error messages appear, it simply says "invalid registration", right beside the "buy quicktime pro button". if anybody knows how i could put this straight, please answer fast!

After entering the Pro registration did you notice the word Pro was now removed from the QuickTime Player menu items that previously used it?
What is it you're trying to do with Pro?

  • I cannot enter the key code for updating to QuickTime Pro 7 as there is no Icon in Preferences and no Registration option in menu?

I have followed the clear instructions to enter the purchased key code for QuickTime Pro 7. There are two options offered:-
    1. Go into Preferences and select the QuickTime Player icon and enter the code that way.
    2. Open QuickTime Player and open up ‘registration’ and enter the key code.
For whatever reason I have neither option available to me although QuickTime player is on my system and I use it regularly. It is version 10 build (118). I have run software updates and there is no upgrade available. I have downloaded the latest version and tried to load it but this fails because the system finds a version already available. I have attempted to uninstall but whilst it moves it from the Application folder, it remains on the Mac as it is part of the system files. So I cannot use the Pro version. The iMac is a 27” Intel about a year old and has all the software updates available to me installed.
Any offers for suggestions or past experiences that can help me overcome this conundrum?

Both answers were spot on. I made the mistake yesterday of downloading the version for Leopard in my haste. I also thought the issue was related to having to uninstall the current version X.
So the moral of the episode is check the version you have and make certain you download the correct version for your system. All works now.
    Thanks chaps!

  • Can I use a single QuickTime Pro key on more than one computer?

I would like to use QuickTime Pro at both home (Windows Vista) and at work (Windows XP). Can I do this using a single purchased key, or do I need to buy two separate keys, one for each machine?
It's a rather stupid question, but I can't find an straightforward statement one way or the other in the FAQs. Perhaps the answer's too obvious!
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

Thanks! I thought this would probably be the case, but since iTunes allows me to authorise more than one machine, I thought that it was just possible that QuickTime might do the same. Back to the drawing board ...
    Cheers,
    Andrew.

  • How do I find the registration key for Quicktime Pro 7?

I bought QT7 in 2005 & following the links in various support documents all take me to dead ends.  If I look at order history of my account it only goes back 18 months.  There is mention of "downloadable software" section in accounts but that has gone, presumably replaced by the App Store.  I am of course running Lion & want to unlock the Pro features on my MacBook Pro.
    Many thanks

Do you know how I can amend the link to go direct tot he UK site?
Sorry, no. We have the same problem of "lost" links to the software purchase history here in the USA. Fortunatally, someone came across this link in the support area and it appears to work for purchases made here at the US online store. However, the article containing the link I posted also states the following:
Outside Canada and the United States
If you purchased a QuickTime Pro key after 13 April 2001, contact the customer service number of The Apple Store . This number is available at the bottom of The Apple Store Web page for each region.
If you purchased a QuickTime Pro key from the QuickTime Web site before 13 April 2001, please consult your email or other records from that period for your key.
Here is a link to the article if you wish to read it: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2376
Believe others have tried contacting the US Customer Service number but were told to get the information form the Downloadable Software Purchases area for their account which, as we already know, no longer works. (In fact, the Customer Service people did not seem to even know that the old links were missing form our account pages or seem concerned about looking into fixing the problem.) While I don't hold out any hopes that you will fare any better, you can give it a try and at least ask if there is a similar external URL for people in other regions. I personally would also send formal QT feedback regarding the problem.
