Invalid MAC Address Format Error

I have a WRT54GR with a 54USB Wireless Adaptor...and I am trying to put my PC MAC Address in the Allow Table so that this is the only MAC Address that can access my network...it is recognising my 54USB Adaptor MAC Address in the Table, so I select this, and add it to the table to allow access, and it comes up with Invalid MAC Address Format....
Anybody know why this is happening...I have tried adding it automatically and typing it in manually still the same.  I use ':' between the numbers/characters not '-'.
Any help greatly appreciated....
Thanks
Smartie27.

Try it in the form  xxxxxxxxxxxx  and see if that works, or maybe just xx xx xx xx xx xx

We have also experienced similar issue with 11.2.0.2 on HPUX:
    srvctl add nodeapps -n host2 -A "host2-vip/255.255.252.0/lan0|lan3"

Replacing host2-vip with IP address works fine.
More surprisingly, on one node, it accepts same command with vip format, whereas on others it is expecting IP address in command. ( although vip names are resolvable to its IP address from all nodes--checked using nslookup)

    Hey ioannis,
So I would recommend starting from scratch on this one and seeing if we can get things to work.  I would recommend following these steps:
Make sure that you have access to port 80, which is what LabVIEW and the Web Server uses for communication.  This might mean turning off virus checkers or firewalls, as Altenbach suggested.
Restart your computer.  This is to make sure that there isn't anything already accessing this port that is conflicting.
Start LabVIEW once the computer is back up.
Open the VI that you would like to publish.  I might recommend using an Example just to test, but you could use your program.
Select Tools » Web Publishing Tool (WPT).
On the bottom of the WPT window, press the Start Web Server button.
Configure your VI as you would like.  You can probably just use the defaults for now.
Select Save to Disk and replace the file if necessary.
Hightlight the address that comes up in the Document URL window and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
Open Internet Explorer and past the URL into the address bar on the development computer.
These steps should be all that is necessary to use the WPT, so please follow them and let me know if they help or not.
    Thanks!

I have just installed the Oracle 9i database on windows NT server, but the
Oracle Database Configuration Assistant returns INVALID END HEADER FORMAT error, eachtime i attempt to create a new database.
Oracle 9i software is installed, but no database was created. How can i solve this problem?
or how can i create the database manaully?
    kayode,
    [email protected]

    Hi,
If you don't have a database error (ORA-), then you're probably hitting some sort of DBCA bug. I'd use the DBCA to generate scripts and then run the scripts manually to see if you can create a database that way.
    http://expertanswercenter.techtarget.com/eac/knowledgebaseAnswer/0,295199,sid63_gci1054696,00.html
Are you able to create scripts through DBCA if yes then you can create your database with help of scripts.
go through below link for manually database creation ( it is also some working in Oracle 9i. After scripts creation. Script creation is different then oracle 10g.)
    http://dbataj.blogspot.com/search/label/Database%20Creation
if not then you hit bug ( according to above mention link) raise a iTAR.

  • Invalid MAC Address message ?

I'm trying to configure my Verizon firewall, which is MAC address authenticating, to allow a new machine.  It's an older Windows Vista machine, and I obtain the MAC via IPCONFIG /ALL.  I take the MAC's I see there and try to enter them into the Firewall config section of the router config, and it says "Invalid MAC Address" ?  What's going on here?!
BTW, I already have about 8 machines configured and working just fine.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

While I see you solved your issue, there is a (or are) problem(s) to be aware of.
#1 MAC Address(es) are always sent in clear regarless if the type of encryption.
#2 Since it is possible to spoof/clone a MAC Address on a router (for example as shown at http://ui.linksys.com/files/E4200/2.0.25/wanmac.html ) it is also possible to spoof/clone the MAC Address on a computer.
#3 If someone does not know how to spoof/clone the MAC Address on their computer if you do not use wireless encryption (WEP, WPA, WPA2) to protect your wireless network, that someone can still see your traffic.

  • Invalid docx file format error when publishing

    Good morning all,
I've been using UPK 3.5.1 Developer for years with Office 2003 (yes, I know we should upgrade, but that's out of my control), and have successfully published many times. After my latest publishing, the following error showed in the Activity Log:
Task: Job Aid / Postprocessing document
Comment: Invalid docx file format odpub://int/PlayerPackage/Temp/03d444ee-681b-406b-aba2-cd4b669702e2_JOBAID.docx
All of the other job aids have published to a .doc format, so I'm not sure why this one is behaving differently. I located the offending topic, and in UPK, the preview provides a similar error when I try to preview the job aid. Strangely enough though, in the published project, the job aid for that topic prints just fine. I know I can just ignore the error since the finished product works, but I'm just wondering if anyone has some insight as to why this error occurred.
    Thanks!
    Brenda Hutch

I am having the same issue. It is during export - almost immediately after exporting begins. No file is created.

    Regards,

    Hi Jack,
How many of these packets are you getting ? If it's a small number, I would not worry about it too much.
However, if the number is significant you might not need to isolate it to the application on the server. In general, the IP to MAC conversion is done by the ethernet stack. But it may be an issue with the NIC or a mis-behaving application. It is not always easy to find out which application is causing it. You could do a couple of things (but none of those may solve the problem):
    - replace the NIC
    - shut down one app on the server at a time and see if the packets stop
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • MSI K7N420 invalid MAC address?!

I've noticed this before that my MAC address on this K7N420 NIC is weird:
Description: NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller
    Physical Address: 80-80-80-80-80-03
the problem now is that I have a router here and I could set fixed DHCP tables but the router refuses to add that kind of address there, just says invalid.
is there something that I could use to change is permanently or use just a trick w2k that it's different... I know in Linux you can change the MAC.
btw is there supposed to be a sticker on the mobo somewhere that tells the MAC address? I didn't see any on the frontside.

yes I tried that one too when it came out, currently using 2.7 bios....

  • Invalid MAC Address for ADMTEK in MS-6378

I had network connection problem with my MS-8378.  After investigation, I found that the MAC address of the on-board ADMTEK NIC was corrupted and changed to 'FF FF FF FF FF FF'.  Except this, everything is fine and the Windows XP can recognise the NIC.
How can I recover the MAC address?

I searched the Internet and found a number of similar reported problems.  The following link contain a more detail description of how the MAC address can be corrupted by the driver of FreeBSD.   It mentioned that the MAC address can be reset by the manufacturer's utility before it will work again in Windows.  I have contacted the MSI support and still waiting for their response.

  • Mac-Address Different format for Authorization on Cisco ISE

    Dear All,
I have problem with my Cisco ISE,
    This is the design :
ISE ---- Core Switch ---- 3Com Switch --- PC User
    My Case:
Authorization is based on Mac-address and Active Directory,
But user with PC that connect to 3Com swtich is Deny by ISE because the Format Mac-address is different with Cisco,
    Mac-address Cisco format :  XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX
    Mac-address 3Com format :  XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
    3Com Switch type is TRICOM 4210 26-PORT.
Anyone have experience with this? and how change the mac-address format in 3Com so user can authorized by Cisco ISE.
    note:
authorization based on Active Directory is not problem with 3Com Switch.
Based on my experience, Different product is different format mac-address, so this case not only for 3Com Switch.
    Thanks,
    Arika Wahyono

I do not think Cisco will add these vendors to the supported switch matrix because then it would be a support issue that cisco would have to deal with, much like most of the AD issues I experienced when I worked in TAC. Your best bet would be to run the evaluation license instance in a lab and have a 3com switch point against that.
Other than that I do not recommend upgrading to 1.2 without validating that the new "multi-vendor" MAB support will work on your switch.
PS- Keep in mind that my comments is just my opinion so you may need to open a TAC case for an official answer.

    Hi,

    asa-test# show mac-address-table

Has the command changed for this model / version? It works fine on ASA5505's running 8.4(5).

    hi john,
the show mac-address-table command should be valid.
check if you've got MAC learning enabled on the ASA interface using show mac-learn command.
edit: could you post show firewall? the above command works on transparent firewall only.

  • My router doesn't accept my MAC address

    Hi.
I'm trying to set static IPs on my router (Netgear DGN 2000). I go to the "Connected devices" panel, and among them I can see my iMac. Its MAC address is odd ( like c4:2c:xx:xx:xx:xx). As I try to set a static IP, I get an error saying "Invalid MAC address". My other non-Apple devices all have MAC addresses starting with 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and I can assign a static IP to them. Ihave the same problem with my MacBook.
Is there something wrong with the iMac? Or the router? Or both ?

I'm glad to hear that, Thanks
But I checked and there is no update for my router... Maybe I'll write to Netgear support, I would rather not buy a new router just to fix this problem!

  • DHCP reservation BAD_Address and Mac Address changes.

Ok.  I understand about Bad_Address and the things that can cause it.  That said, I am using Window 2003 and we are running DHCP.  Yesterday we had a series of short power outages.  Some were right after the other (1 or 2 seconds) others
were 10 to 40 seconds in between.  The server (of course) has a UPS and so does most of our infrastructure (switches etc).
But it seems that one type of Printer that we have, were all switched to bad_address and they could not pick up their reserved IP address.  Some of them seemed to remember their IP and are still functional, even though their reservation says bad_address.
I assume they will fail either at lease renewal or the next time they are power cycled.  What surprised me was that these bad_address entries' reservations were changed to have an invalid MAC address.
All of them start with a 0 or a 1 and are only 8 characters long.  0401150a, 1701150a, 1901150a, hmmm.   i see a pattern forming.  They all have unique first 3 characters, but everything after that is 1150a.  That led me to figuring
out what this number is.  It's an inverted hexadecimal representation of the ip address that is being complained about.  Why would the DHCP server replace the MAC with this convoluted string?   Is this covered in any manual?
I am pretty sure it's not in the DHCP RFC.
Not sure why it was having the problem, unless somehow the printers were powering and made the DHCP request then discovered that the old lease information was kept somehow (remember, some of the outages were very brief) after the request had gone out.
But that, and nothing else I can think of makes sense.  And it only happens on one model of our printer.  At least so far.  And this isn't the first time we've seen it happen this way.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Firstly, it seems that the Unique ID of the DHCP Reservations are inverted to the IP addresses in hex. And, the most possible cause is IP conflict.
    For example:
    0401150a -> 04 01 15 0a (hex) -> 4 1 15 10 (decimal) -> 10.15.1.4 (IP address)
Meanwhile, I agree with the possible cause as you said, however, would you please kindly let us know the following:
    1. How many DHCP Servers do you have? Or, is the DHCP Server multihomed?
    2. Do the printers have multiple NICs?
    3. Are the printers both statically configured and have DHCP Reservations in the DHCP Server?
    4. DO other DHCP clients in the same scope have the same issue?
    5. Is there any trace in DHCP log?
In addition, if Conflict detection is enabled in your DHCP Server, please disable it and see how it works.
Also, please check if you can get some clues from this TechNet Thread:
    DHCP server bad address issue
In addition, as the issue only occur with the same model of printers, it is worth to contact the vendor for their insight on it.
    Hope this helps.
