Invalid MAC Address message ?

I'm trying to configure my Verizon firewall, which is MAC address authenticating, to allow a new machine.  It's an older Windows Vista machine, and I obtain the MAC via IPCONFIG /ALL.  I take the MAC's I see there and try to enter them into the Firewall config section of the router config, and it says "Invalid MAC Address" ?  What's going on here?!
BTW, I already have about 8 machines configured and working just fine.

While I see you solved your issue, there is a (or are) problem(s) to be aware of.
#1 MAC Address(es) are always sent in clear regarless if the type of encryption.
#2 Since it is possible to spoof/clone a MAC Address on a router (for example as shown at http://ui.linksys.com/files/E4200/2.0.25/wanmac.html ) it is also possible to spoof/clone the MAC Address on a computer.
#3 If someone does not know how to spoof/clone the MAC Address on their computer if you do not use wireless encryption (WEP, WPA, WPA2) to protect your wireless network, that someone can still see your traffic.

  • Invalid MAC Address Format Error

I have a WRT54GR with a 54USB Wireless Adaptor...and I am trying to put my PC MAC Address in the Allow Table so that this is the only MAC Address that can access my network...it is recognising my 54USB Adaptor MAC Address in the Table, so I select this, and add it to the table to allow access, and it comes up with Invalid MAC Address Format....
Anybody know why this is happening...I have tried adding it automatically and typing it in manually still the same.  I use ':' between the numbers/characters not '-'.
    Any help greatly appreciated....
    Thanks

Try it in the form  xxxxxxxxxxxx  and see if that works, or maybe just xx xx xx xx xx xx

  • OS won't boot--invalid memory address message

10.4.9 running on a G4 867 Dual. System won't boot from internal disk or from Tiger installation CD. I get an error message for an invalid memory address followed by some hex code. The message says I can type "boot-up" but all I get is the little folder icon, then the flashing question mark. If I type "shut-down" this works.
I've detached all external accessories, disks, etc. I reset the memory chips. Unplugged two of my 4 internal disks. Doesn't help.
What I was doing before this--running iDefrag on one of my internal disks (not the startup disk), stopped & quit the app partway. Also running SuperDuper backing up yet a third internal disk to my external firewire storage--also stopped & quit partway.
I inserted my 10.4 installation disk to install a system on an external firewire disk (none of the above, I have a lot of drives) but could not start up from the CD. Started to get the error above. Can't eject CD, either. Bluetooth seems fine as my Apple bluetooth keyboard works.
Another tidbit--my combo drive may be having problems seeing discs. Some will mount on my iBook but not on the G4 Dual.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Jack,
How many of these packets are you getting ? If it's a small number, I would not worry about it too much.
However, if the number is significant you might not need to isolate it to the application on the server. In general, the IP to MAC conversion is done by the ethernet stack. But it may be an issue with the NIC or a mis-behaving application. It is not always easy to find out which application is causing it. You could do a couple of things (but none of those may solve the problem):
    - replace the NIC
    - shut down one app on the server at a time and see if the packets stop
Hope that helps - pls rate the post if it does.

  • MSI K7N420 invalid MAC address?!

I've noticed this before that my MAC address on this K7N420 NIC is weird:
Description: NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Controller
    Physical Address: 80-80-80-80-80-03
the problem now is that I have a router here and I could set fixed DHCP tables but the router refuses to add that kind of address there, just says invalid.
is there something that I could use to change is permanently or use just a trick w2k that it's different... I know in Linux you can change the MAC.
btw is there supposed to be a sticker on the mobo somewhere that tells the MAC address? I didn't see any on the frontside.

  • Invalid MAC Address for ADMTEK in MS-6378

I had network connection problem with my MS-8378.  After investigation, I found that the MAC address of the on-board ADMTEK NIC was corrupted and changed to 'FF FF FF FF FF FF'.  Except this, everything is fine and the Windows XP can recognise the NIC.
How can I recover the MAC address?

I searched the Internet and found a number of similar reported problems.  The following link contain a more detail description of how the MAC address can be corrupted by the driver of FreeBSD.   It mentioned that the MAC address can be reset by the manufacturer's utility before it will work again in Windows.  I have contacted the MSI support and still waiting for their response.

  • "invalid destination address" sending mms

Whenever I try to send a picture message (or any sort of MMS really), it says "pending" for a few seconds then says "sending" and after a few more seconds it finally says the message failed and a note pops up that says "invalid destination address"
Normal texts have gone through just fine to Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint users but pictures/sounds will not send at all.
    Help Please!?

Hi, I'm having a similar issue to the one described above and was wondering if you could offer some suggestions.
I have a Droid 2 Global...I bought it in August of 2011.  Until yesterday, I had no problems sending MMS (or SMS) messages to any of my contacts.  Then, I started receiving the "invalid destination address" message when trying to send a message to one contact.  This contact is a Verizon Wireless customer, as am I.  Messages to other Verizon and non-Verizon customers go through with no problem.  I called Verizon and performed the *228 update, performed a power cycle (removing the battery, waiting 20 seconds, putting it back in), cleared out all of my text messages, had my friend perform the *228 and power cycle, ensured that there were not any changes made to my account or my friend's account, and it is still not working.  Just to clarify, SMS messages are going through to all contacts.
Verizon's only suggestion was to factory reset my phone.  I'm not satisfied with that answer.  Do you all have any other suggestions of things I can try?
    Thanks!

  • "failed to get MAC address for machine"

here is the jist of things.
installed leopard and have it pimped out to my personal specs. I like where everything is and how things are working. No issues. just so you know, i only use WIFI for internet, i share with the guys upstairs. In order to get wifi on my machine, i use a USB dongle. works great no issues with it ever, well until i physically broke it. No big deal. So i replaced it with another one, different drivers/chipset worked.. And since i installed leopard i only backed it up once with TM, i dont care for daily/hrly backups, weekly is fine for me. Now after 2 weeks and a new usb network card. TM gives me an error. i click on the little red i and it says "the backup volume could not be found" so googled and searched the forums not much help, so i tried and formated my ext drive repaired and click on TM again, same error. In the error log in console, right after i turn on TM i get this error, "failed to get MAC address for machine" then 180 secs later, TM fails. again, and again.
Can anyone tell me where i can find what MAC address its looking for??? ethernet has never been plugged in to my machine ever. its only been online via USB wifi. Im really lost here, i dont know what i can do.. im sure if i try another drive ill get the same error. please help if you can.. much appriciated.
    Jamie

yeah i get a 'failed to get mac address' message too. what's weird is that it seems that leopard 'broke' my ethernet (there was no mac address, couldn't connect to the internet through ethernet after a clean install), and then 10.5.2 'fixed' it. for some reason, i have an 'ethernet 2' heading in system preferences that works correctly and has a mac address and everything, while the regular 'ethernet' tab doesn't work at all. however, i still get this time machine error. i don't understand why time machine is so incredibly fickle. sorry, i'm really of no help to anyone, other than adding another voice to the frustration.

  • DHCP reservation BAD_Address and Mac Address changes.

Ok.  I understand about Bad_Address and the things that can cause it.  That said, I am using Window 2003 and we are running DHCP.  Yesterday we had a series of short power outages.  Some were right after the other (1 or 2 seconds) others
were 10 to 40 seconds in between.  The server (of course) has a UPS and so does most of our infrastructure (switches etc).
But it seems that one type of Printer that we have, were all switched to bad_address and they could not pick up their reserved IP address.  Some of them seemed to remember their IP and are still functional, even though their reservation says bad_address.
I assume they will fail either at lease renewal or the next time they are power cycled.  What surprised me was that these bad_address entries' reservations were changed to have an invalid MAC address.
All of them start with a 0 or a 1 and are only 8 characters long.  0401150a, 1701150a, 1901150a, hmmm.   i see a pattern forming.  They all have unique first 3 characters, but everything after that is 1150a.  That led me to figuring
out what this number is.  It's an inverted hexadecimal representation of the ip address that is being complained about.  Why would the DHCP server replace the MAC with this convoluted string?   Is this covered in any manual?
I am pretty sure it's not in the DHCP RFC.
Not sure why it was having the problem, unless somehow the printers were powering and made the DHCP request then discovered that the old lease information was kept somehow (remember, some of the outages were very brief) after the request had gone out.
But that, and nothing else I can think of makes sense.  And it only happens on one model of our printer.  At least so far.  And this isn't the first time we've seen it happen this way.
    Any ideas appreciated.
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Firstly, it seems that the Unique ID of the DHCP Reservations are inverted to the IP addresses in hex. And, the most possible cause is IP conflict.
    For example:
    0401150a -> 04 01 15 0a (hex) -> 4 1 15 10 (decimal) -> 10.15.1.4 (IP address)
Meanwhile, I agree with the possible cause as you said, however, would you please kindly let us know the following:
    1. How many DHCP Servers do you have? Or, is the DHCP Server multihomed?
    2. Do the printers have multiple NICs?
    3. Are the printers both statically configured and have DHCP Reservations in the DHCP Server?
    4. DO other DHCP clients in the same scope have the same issue?
    5. Is there any trace in DHCP log?
In addition, if Conflict detection is enabled in your DHCP Server, please disable it and see how it works.
Also, please check if you can get some clues from this TechNet Thread:
    DHCP server bad address issue
In addition, as the issue only occur with the same model of printers, it is worth to contact the vendor for their insight on it.
    Hope this helps.

  • My router doesn't accept my MAC address

    Hi.
I'm trying to set static IPs on my router (Netgear DGN 2000). I go to the "Connected devices" panel, and among them I can see my iMac. Its MAC address is odd ( like c4:2c:xx:xx:xx:xx). As I try to set a static IP, I get an error saying "Invalid MAC address". My other non-Apple devices all have MAC addresses starting with 00:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx and I can assign a static IP to them. Ihave the same problem with my MacBook.
Is there something wrong with the iMac? Or the router? Or both ?

I'm glad to hear that, Thanks
But I checked and there is no update for my router... Maybe I'll write to Netgear support, I would rather not buy a new router just to fix this problem!

  • PC22224 switch fails on boot with message "Invalid switch MAC address"

Ok moderators, I know this is a nonsupported product, but you moved all Switch messages to the archive.  This seemed to be the most appropriate folder for it.  Hope that's ok?
I have a NEW (can you believe it?) PC22224 managed Cisco/Linksys switch with a problem.  When it boots, it passes all tests until it is almost ready to run, then I get this message:
    Checking file integrity..... Done
    Decompressing Code Image.... Done
    System PANIC.....
    Invalid switch MAC address
Does anyone know how to correct this problem?  I can find nothing on it anywhere on the web.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Trying to purchase app and get " invalid address" message

when I try to purchase apps I get a "invalid address"  message... anyone have an answer?

Restart your iPhone. Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, launch iTunes on your computer.
From the menu bar click Store / View My Account then click: Edit Payment Information.
Make sure your billing address, the security code, and the expiration date, are all correct then click Done.

  • "Invalid Destination Address" for MMS messages

I got an HTC One M8 about a month ago, and everything has been working great.  However, the last 2 or 3 days, I haven't been able to send MMS messages.  I know that the numbers are correct, because I have been grabbing them straight from my contacts, and I have triple checked them.  I've tried about 5 different pictures with 5 different contacts, and every time I do, a red triangle with an explanation point in the middle comes up saying "invalid destination address".  I have no idea what happened, as it's been working up until the last few days.  I have tried with and without WiFi, force stopped my messages and cleared the cache.  Nothing works.  Can anyone help, please?

RDSHARP39, thanks for trying all of those steps for us. I want to make sure that we get the device back up and running like it is suppose to. Are you able to receive picture messages from your contacts? Have you been able to power off the device and pull the sim card out for a good 10-15 seconds: http://vz.to/1B3J1vX After that time frame please place the sim card back into the device and re-try sending a picture message. Keep us posted.
