INVALID OCR

Hi,
I have 10g R2 single instance with ASM installed and running on AIX 5L. Today after rebooting the box oracle didn't come up. I checked and found that the CSS service is not starting up. I try to start it manually also but it kept failing on me. I deleted the service using localconfig delete and try to add it but it failed again. Here are the contents of css alert file (alertpdxeps2.log):

  • Invalid OCR locations (on NFS shares)

I'm trying to install the 11.2 Oracle Grid Infrastructure for testing purposes.
    My setup is the following:
    1. NFS server serving 3 disks
    2. I mounted those shares on my nodes at the same location, e.g. /disk1 /disk2 /disk3
    3. In the Grid Infrastructure OUI runInstaller Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) locations GUI page, I selected
"normal Redundancy" and put these locations:
    /disk1/ocr/ocr1
    /disk2/ocr/ocr2
    /disk3/ocr/ocr3
My oinstall group user owns the /disk1/ocr, disk2/ocr, /disk3/ocr dirs.
    I get the following error:
[INS-41317] Invalid Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) locations.
Cause - One or more Oracle Cluster Registry (OCR) locations were not valid.
Action - Provide valid OCR locations.
I'm wondering if somebody can please shed more light on what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!

    PK,
One issue that we ran into and saw similar error messages was when a whole unpartitioned device was presented to CRS to be used as the OCR and the
    Voting Disk ( i.e., /dev/sdb , /dev/sdc instead of a partition like /dev/sdb1 , /dev/sdc1 } .
It appears that CRS calls a utility to format the disks which does not like the whole unpartitioned devices . Guess this is fixed in the 11g release.
We ran into this issue when running root.sh , so I am not exactly sure the circumstances under which you are facing these errors. If this is a fresh install and the devices have not been partitioned , then it might be worth trying to partition them and presenting them to CRS.
You might have to cleanup the existing install if you decide to pursue the above option . Note:239998.1 on Metalink might help you with the cleanup steps.

    Hey ioannis,
So I would recommend starting from scratch on this one and seeing if we can get things to work.  I would recommend following these steps:
Make sure that you have access to port 80, which is what LabVIEW and the Web Server uses for communication.  This might mean turning off virus checkers or firewalls, as Altenbach suggested.
Restart your computer.  This is to make sure that there isn't anything already accessing this port that is conflicting.
Start LabVIEW once the computer is back up.
Open the VI that you would like to publish.  I might recommend using an Example just to test, but you could use your program.
Select Tools » Web Publishing Tool (WPT).
On the bottom of the WPT window, press the Start Web Server button.
Configure your VI as you would like.  You can probably just use the defaults for now.
Select Save to Disk and replace the file if necessary.
Hightlight the address that comes up in the Document URL window and press Ctrl+C to copy it.
Open Internet Explorer and past the URL into the address bar on the development computer.
These steps should be all that is necessary to use the WPT, so please follow them and let me know if they help or not.
    Thanks!

  • 11.2.0.3 grid installation fails while selecting OCFS2 for ocr files

We are installing 11GR2 (11.2.0.3) cluster on a 64 bit system. we have OCFS2 filesystem for shared devices. version 1.6.3.
While selecting ocr file locations , we get the following error
[INS-41321] Invalid oracle cluster register [OCR] Location
Cause- The installer detects that the storage type of location is not supported for Oracle Cluster registery
Action - Provide a supported storage location for the Oracle Cluster Registry
    Additional information
    /crp2db01/OCR/ocr_1 is not shared
However , this mountpoint is shared across both the nodes.
Note: 11201 grid installation was successful and it accepted the above locations for OCR. however ,we need 11.2.0.3 cluster for 11.2.0.3 database

As for your current problem, just because Oracle "allows" OCFS2 in a GRID environment, I would never suggest nor implement that. It adds a layer of complexity that is totally unnecessary when a GRID/ASM implementation performs circles around OCFS2. ASM is much easier to manage, maintain, expand and shrink than OCFS2. Especially at version 11.2.0.3. When working at a large telco a few years ago, we had a 300TB+ ASM environment. OCFS2 could not even begin to be that big. ASM will provide you a MUCH more stable environment than OCFS2. And with ASM there is a lot of "magic" that happens with OCR/Voting that makes your life MUCH easier. If you "require" shared application files, then use ASM/ACFS. It is a much better "volume manager" than OCFS2.
Since you must present devices to the system for OCFS2, you should not have any problems doing the same for ASM. (and don't use ASMLib as it is going away and is not necessary - just make sure you use a partition that skips the first 1M (usually cylinder 1) and you should be good to go!)
I also would not use a "shared ORACLE_HOME" on either ACFS or OCFS2. The biggest reason is that you lose the ability to do a "rolling" upgrade and when you have a VLC, that becomes much more important that saving a few GB worth of storage.
I would also pay attention to this:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e22489/storage.htm#CDEDAHGB
3.1.4.2 General Storage Considerations for Oracle RAC
Use the following guidelines when choosing the storage options to use for each file type:
You can choose any combination of the supported storage options for each file type provided that you satisfy all requirements listed for the chosen storage options.
If you plan to install an Oracle RAC home on a shared OCFS2 location, then you must upgrade OCFS2 to at least version 1.4.1, which supports shared writable mmaps.
Oracle recommends that you choose Oracle ASM as the storage option for database and recovery files.
For Standard Edition Oracle RAC installations, Oracle ASM is the only supported storage option for database or recovery files.

I have create file system OCR & VOT as Raw device and formatted these devices in Solaris skipping ocr voting disk for the first 1MB to avoid overwriting the disk VTOC. Network configuration and disk permissions are set correctly. I have installed the RAC on the same machines a few months ago for training purpose and everything was working very well. Last week, my openfiler hard disk has died. I have cleared the CRS and database on the same machines and wanted to reinstall oracle RAC on Solaris but now have following problems when I run root.sh from first node I get following errors. • CRS restarting - OCR inaccessible 10.2.0.4

    Hi all,
i'm facing this problem and i don't understand why node2 and node1 "sometimes" (1 or 2 days a week) gives this type of error and crs restarts.

I'm looking for some suggestion and where to focus attention.
    Thanks in advance
    Roby

i'm facing this problem and i don't understand why node2 and node1 "sometimes" (1 or 2 days a week) gives this type of error and crs restartsHow did you come to know this ?
Was there any network delay ? Did you check that?
I think it may be because of the netwrok traffic and can you please post /etc/ocfs.conf and also /var/log/messages .. Did you find any thing odd in the /var/log/messages file?
    GoodLuck!

  • RHEL - 10g - ocfs2 - runInstaller - OCR partition must be at least 100MB

    Hi,
I'm going through the runInstaller wizard and I've reached the point where I need to specify my OCR.
I'm not new to oracle databases, but I'm new to RAC.
I'm a bit confused by the value I need to put in this window:
Here's an image to explain what I'm talking about:
    http://startoracle.com/2007/09/30/so-you-want-to-play-with-oracle-11gs-rac-heres-how/ - Step 16 in the document
    here's my configuration:
    [root@rac1 VMXOCR]# /etc/init.d/ocfs2 status
    Configured OCFS2 mountpoints: /opt/oracle/VMXOCR /opt/oracle/VMXVOTING
    Active OCFS2 mountpoints: /opt/oracle/VMXOCR /opt/oracle/VMXVOTING
    [root@rac1 VMXOCR]# ls -lh
    total 700M
    drw-r----- 2 oracle dba 3.9K Jan 23 20:17 lost+found
    -rwxrwxr-x 1 oracle dba 700M Jan 24 13:14 ocrdisk
    [root@rac1 VMXOCR]# df -h /opt/oracle/VMXOCR
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
    /dev/sdc 1.0G 990M 35M 97% /opt/oracle/VMXOCR
When I choose /opt/oracle/VMXOCR, I get an error message that this location is invalid.
    But when I pick /opt/oracle/VMXOCR/ocrdisk
I get an error message saying that my partition is too small (34MB) and should be at least 100MB.
So I pick /opt/oracle/VMXOCR/ocrdisk but it checks the size on /opt/oracle/VMXOCR
I'm obviously doing something wrong but I don't know what and I haven't find out what.
I would be really grateful if someone could clarify what's going on (and provide a solution)
    Nico

    Hi,
I figured out what was the problem.
I ran a dd command which created this ocrdisk file. For some reason it was in my instructions. I got rid of the file and the installation went on.

  • How can I remove incorrect entry in OCR

    Hi all
During a CRS upgrade from 10.2.0.4 to 11gR2 I noticed some errors relating to some values that should not have been there! This might have been due to an incorrectly removed node or database previously.
Anyway, the output from ocrdump looks like this
    /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/bin/ocrdump.bin -stdout -keyname DATABASE.ONS_HOSTS
    [DATABASE.ONS_HOSTS]

    Many thanks

Thanks again Sebastian - that really helped.
If you dont mind one last question, I seem to have some orphan entries in OCR.

as I get PRKO-2007 : Invalid instance name: or PRKR-1001 : cluster database TESTDB does not exist. Also they do not appear in crs_stat.
Any ideas how I can remove them from OCR? If I were to try crs_unregister, I am not sure what resource name to use because they don't show up in crs_stat.

  • Error while running a query-Input for variable 'Posting Period is invalid

    Hi All,
NOTE: This error is only cropping up when I input 12 in the posting period variable selection. If I put in any other value from 1-11 I am not getting any errors. Any ideas why this might be happening?
I am getting the following error when I try and run a query - "Input for variable 'Posting Period (Single entry, mandatory)' is invalid" - On further clicking on this error the message displayed is as follows -
    Diagnosis
Variable Posting Period (Single Value Entry, Mandatory) is used as a lower limit (X) and an upper limit () in an interval selection. This limit has the value #.
    System Response
    Procedure
Enter a different value for variable Posting Period (Single Value Entry, Mandatory). If the value of the other limit is determined by another variable, you can change its value also.
    Procedure for System Administration

    OK.
Well, if the variable is not used in any interval selection, then I would say "something happened to it".
I would make a copy of the query and run it to check if I get the same problem with period 12.
-> If not, something is wrong in the original query (you can proceed as below, if changes to original are permitted).
If so, then try removing the variable completely from the query and hardcode restriction to 12.
-> If problem still persists, I would have to do some thinking.
If problem is gone, then add the variable again. Check.
-> If problem is back, then the variable "is sick". Only quick thing to do, is to build an identical variable and use that one.
If problem also happens with the new variable, then it's time to share this experience with someone else and consider raising an OSS.
    Good luck!
    Jacob
P.S: what fisc year variant are you using?

  • Getting ora:00904 invalid indentifier error while running i query

    Hi,
I have a remote database and local database both are oracle 10gR2.Now i have written the below mentioned query in my local database and is working fine, but in case remote database it is throughing error ora:00904 invalid indentifier.
I had export the dump from remote db and import it on my local db and i tried the same and it is working fine on local after that also.
As i believe that this error usually come for column name not exist or column name or it's length or for any special character in column name of the table. But as i said it is working fine on local db but not in remote db though i am using the same dump for local and remote.
Though when i am querying the table i can able to fetch data for the any record but when i am using the below mentioned query for the same i am getting the error. As i am doing this to fecth the data for child parent related relationship.
Can any one suggest is there anything related to configaration or something else.
Please do let me know if you do want some more information on the query what i am doing inside of it.

  • An error has occurred:Invalid postback or callback argument in InfoView

    Hi Friends,
When i try to change the parameter values and click OK button while scheduling a report in InfoView, i am getting the following error:
An error has occurred:Invalid postback or callback argument. Event validation is enabled using in configuration or in a page. For security purposes, this feature verifies that arguments to postback or callback events originate from the server control that originally rendered them. If the data is valid and expected, use the ClientScriptManager. RegisterForEventValidation method in order to register the postback or callback data for validation.
Till now i have not find any good solution for this. Please help in providing any better solutions to fix this.
