Invalid oraInst.loc
Hi,
While applying ORACLE server patch using opatch i receieved an error that, oraInst.loc cannot be found in /etc. (i am on AIX 6.1, R12.1.1). So i copied oraInst.loc from $INST_TOP/admin/ to /etc/. then it complained that the ORACLE_HOME is not registered, but the applications is running fine.
To my surprise oraInst.loc points to inventory_loc=/data1/R12/oraInventory but this mounts are'nt on my server. And also in each $ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc the inventory_loc is pointing to the same above wrong location. More over in $INST_TOP/admin/oraInventory there is no folder like ContentsXML. If yes does it mean a fresh install also does clone.Do you mean to ask if the fresh installation comes with a clone directory? If yes, then I think it is you (or this clone directory is created with you run preclone).
More over, how can i make sure that the local inventory is intact, as metalink docs says if local inventory is missing or corrupted then i need to reinstall techstack.Please see the solution section in (Note: 316251.1).

I have just migrated and upgraded EBS 11i to 12.1.1 and now having trouble with the oraInventory setup.
I have the three $ORACLE_HOMEs for 11.2.0 rdbms, 10.1.2 & 10.1.3 for the apps.

First there is no ouicli.pl in RDBMS home so I use ./runInstaller -silent -attachHome to add it to the inventory
For 10.1.2 & 10.1.3 Homes, when I use ouicli.pl it give me errors:

We are Migrating and upgrading EBS 11i on a 32 bit ULN 4 to EBS 12.1.3 on an x86-64 bit ULN following doc 557738.1 (Export/import notes ....)
We are currently at 12.1.1 and preparing to move onto 12.1.3.
The folder $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/clone/bin on this new server and installation f 12.1.1 does not contain adcfgclone.pl as needed by Note 458653.1
Note [ID 742477.1] (How to create, update or rebuild the Central Inventory for Applications R12) called for using $ORACLE_HOME/appsutil/clone/ouicli.pl in the 11.2.0 rdbms ORACLE_HOME but this file (ouicli.pl) is also not there? It is nevertheless presnet in the in 10.1.2 & 10.1.3 ORACLE_HOMEs.

There are some startup and shutdown services which only maintain from inside the root users and because operating system refer the database from this files oratab and oraInst.loc
Oratab is a colon-delimited text file on Unix and Linux systems that associates ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME values.
The last field contains a "Y" or "N" for database startup when the machine boots up. One can also use hashes (#) to start comment lines.
This file is either found in the /var/opt/oracle or the /etc directories.
Scripts like oraenv, dbhome, dbstart and dbshut use the oratab file.
2) What is the importance of orainst.loc file?

Yes can do but not recommended by oracle

I am doing a silent install of EM12C, I have downloaded the 2 zip files from e-delivery.
The installation is done as ora3010 user whose group id is ems3010. On the same machine I have installed 11.2.0.2 with the same ora user ora3010 and group ems3010 for EM repos.
Now when I try to do the silent install of EM12C with the command

However the issue was with my Ora Inventory file OraInst.loc. I had actually installed 11.2.0.2 database on the same machine and as same user, and for that db I had a different OraInst.loc file. When I give the same OraInst.loc file for the EM install too, the error goes away. It seems we just need to have one Inventory file for both installations. -

How do I fix this?Still the same issue, yes.
I have already logged an SR for this, but all is very quiet on that front.
One funny, is that this HOME was never attached to the orainst.loc, so I did it manually.
When I try and run opatch with lsinventory parm, it does not list any patches, although there are patches installed, if you look at $OH/.patch_storage.
Any idea of how I should attach this home correctly? -

I am cloning and EBS 12.1.3 from one server to another, and when Configuring the target system database server with ''perl adcfgclone.pl dbTier'', I am getting the following error:

MOS is saying that it is due to wrong permissions on the /var/tmp/.oracle directory and we should give it the following permissions:
chmod 777 /var/tmp/.oracle
After giving those permissions and rebooting the server , and running the perl adcfgclone.pl dbTier script, I am still having the same problem:

After successfully configured the DbTier and AppsTier with their respective post clone scripts the appstier was automatically started at the end.

I completed the task yesterday with the permission method. However, I think I found the solution after completion. The trick lies at the oraInst.loc file. It lies at /etc directory for my case (AIX 5.3).
If you do a opatch lsinventory, it shows you the Central Inventory location and the location of orainst.loc. For my case, it is pointing to /oracle/DE1/920_64/inventory. Therefore, even though I am logging in as oraqa1 with all env and oracle settings correct, it still points to DE1 inventory.
I think modifying the Central inventory location in oraInst.loc will solve this problem. -

My HOst machine is windows 7 and I have allocated 4GB of physical memory and 4 Processors to the Virtual Machine.
I believe this is a decent config for Oracle 12c Database. M also logging on to this system with a Admin Rights User and invoking the Installation using this User.
Earlier I had Oracle 11g Database installed on this along with Enterprise Manager 12c Cloud Control.
Recently I wanted to upgrade to Oracle 12c Database for which my multiple upgrade attempts failed with the above error. So I thought the system might be requiring some minimum. spare on the C Drive.
I decided to go ahead with Oracle 11g De-install and further attempted to install 12c Database. However the problem still persists .
Any help and clues on how to Resolve this issue is highly appreciated.

I have a problem when I apply patch 12539000

I need to upgrade my GI and RDBMS from 11.2.0.2 to 11.2.0.3 on Linux RedHat
I am following this DOC: Oracle® Grid Infrastructure Installation Guide (E22489-04) - (F - How to Upgrade to Oracle Grid Infrastructure 11g Release 2).
When I run Cluster Verification Utility (CVU), I got this fail:

Emctl and jdeveloper connection error
Hi all,
I have installed oracle database 11g 11.1.0.6 on a windows server 2003 machine, and then used patchset 11.1.0.7 to upgrade. After that, I am able to connect this database and the database instance using sqlplus.
However, when I tried to create a new connection using JDeveloper, I got the following error:
Test failed: ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
When I tried with emctl.bat start dbconsole, I got error saying
"could not find appropriate listener for this database. configuring db control requires database to be registered with at least one listener"
Can anyone please help me with this strange issue?

We are using EBS r12 (12.0.6) and RDBMS 11g (11.2.x).
I am upgrading the EBS node and following the Metalink doc ID: 752619.1. In this doc I am following doc 454811.1, whic is related to
"Upgrading to the Latest OracleAS 10g 10.1.3.x Patch Set in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12" and applying patch 8626084.
When I run runinstaller and at the end of this upgradation I have received the following ERROR.

Agent discovery with multiple oraInventory (and multiple owners)

For various reasons, I have three different users which own Oracle software. These all have their own oraInventory locations (and I therefore have multiple oraInst.loc files in /var/opt/oracle ... yes this is Solaris).
In terms of installing/upgrading software, this configuration works well enough. But for Grid Control...not so sure that this configuration works.
When I installed the software I had only two of the three users installed and configured. The Grid Control installation picked up entries in /var/opt/oracle/oratab and discovered my other Oracle Home.
I've just added a new user and a new set of software (AS 10gR2). After doing this, I wanted to get it to appear in GC, so I went over to my EM user (oracleem) and tried an "agentca -d". Got this message:

Er, oops. "Invalid OracleHome Location". Not too helpful since I have so many :) Can't find a logfile that has any more useful information either...
This leads me to suspect one of three things:
1. I am going about this in completely the wrong way
or
2. The tool can't handle my wierd configuration
or
3. The tool can handle it, I'm doing basically the right thing, and there is something wrong somewhere
So, which is it, and if it is 1 I'd ask "what is the right way" and if 2 I'd ask "where is there a useful logfile?"

:-PhilAh, well...indeed. Basically, these three owners are volatile...I have one for EM (which is pretty static), one for databases ( ~oracle gets "rm -rf"-ed about twice annually), and one for AS (~oracleas gets "rm -rf"-ed twice annually, but on a different 'schedule' if we can call it that).

Please help to solve this problem. Is it also OUI problem? I have tried to upgrade opatch version, and it still cannot solve the problem.
I once tried patch 9216848, it makes the opatch work, but later when I finished installing this patch, I cannot see the forms as it says "magic number problem". Also the adworker always hangs when I do upgrade on R12.1.2 Patch 7303033. So I dun think it is a solution.Hi

BTW, I'd like to ask where's my Database Initialiation File? I find init.ora and init<SID>.ora in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs in DB Tier, but I cannot find the lines -- pgamax_size. Which file I should edit and what things should I add / remove /edit?
pgamax_size is a hidden parameter (why you need to set this one?).

I want to set the Database Initialiation File because in Database Preparation Guidelines (ID: 761570.1), it says that:
1. Before performing any Applications upgrade or maintenance operations, customers must add the following to the database intialization file to disable fast validation for PL/SQL recompilations:
disablefast_validate=TRUE
The line should be commented out during the normal operation of the Applications system.
2. Customers using Oracle iRecruitment on Oracle Database 11gR1 must add the following line to their database initialization file::
event="31151 trace name context forever, level 0x100"
Setting this event provides a fix for the issue reported in bug 6952870.
3. If you encounter the error:
ORA-04030: out of process memory when trying to allocate 822904 bytes (pga heap, kco buffer)
ORA-07445: exception encountered: core dump [dbgtfdFileWrite()+48]
set the pgamax_size initialization parameter to a larger value as follows: pgamax_size=104857600
and restart your database.
I wonder where I can modify these three parameters (which file to edit, and whether it is append / delete / modify values). Or I do not need to do these three points, or even I do not need to go through Database Preparation Guidelines (ID: 761570.1) because my database is 10.3.4 already?
