Invalid Serial Number after reboot?

I just rebooted a server and when it came back ARD was off, along with a bunch of other services that were supposed to start at boot. Under the serial number in Server Admin it had the text (in red): "invalid serial number serial number already registered". I got it to take the serial number by setting it using "/System/Library/ServerSetup/serversetup -setServerSerialNumber <serial>". I want to just reboot again to make sure everything starts up okay, but I want to figure out why this happened first.
The server is a G5 Xserve that had Panther on it. I upgraded to Tiger last week. While upgrading I got the same message after a reboot but just assumed I had unintentionally reused a serial number. I grabbed a brand new unopened Tiger Server OS box and used that serial, so I know the serial is not in use anywhere on site. Can anyone tell me how the OS checks the serial, and maybe supply me with a clue as to why this happened? The only changes to the server I have made were the installation from source of Apache 2.2.0, PHP 5.1.2, Subversion 1.3.0, and MySQL 5.0.18 from an installer package. All were installed into /usr/local/.

I'm having the same problem. I did not start with a 10.3 server - this is a fresh install. But I built one server and then cloned the drive to several others and replaced the hostnames, IPs and serials. Now one constantly comes up with an invalid serial number on reboot.

Acrobat XI Invalid Serial Number After Failed Install

Hello,
We currently have Adobe Acrobat XI on an enterprise license. I went to install this on 3 of our Windows 7 tablets. Prior to my attempt, I removed Adobe Reader XI which is what I always do. After that I started the installer on the machine and entered the key just fine. All 3 tablets got stuck around 96-97% and failed with an error 1935. I then followed the instructions located here:

Following a reboot, I tried to install again and now I am receiving the "Invalid Serial Number" error when trying to click "Next" on the installer. It won't even let me choose install trial and go. The next button does nothing when selecting trial. I tried running the offical Adobe Acrobat Cleaner and the Adobe CS6 cleaner (since Acrobat XI is part of CS6 technically). Both programs found items to delete but following a reboot I'm still receiving the same error. I also have other XI enterprise serials available and none of them work. I have a feeling something happened on the tablets that is causing the installer to think it's the wrong version or type for those serial numbers.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Probook 4515s invalid serial number after format.

Hello from beautiful Greece.
I have a probook and for many months it closed many times by it self. So i think that was fun problem. I decide to make a format and after that my pc doesnt open again.
I take a screen with invalid serial number at the left corner and after that nothing, blank screen. When i go to bios i see that there are no infos about hdd, cs, motherboard serial number etc, so i cant boot from usb. I also delete the recover section on my hdd and i cant run recovely.
I reinstall the bios but nothing. Any soloution?

Final Cut tells me "invalid serial number" after clearing my early 2010 27 inch imac and trying to reinstall

I wiped my hard drive after completing a time machine backup on my desktop. it was getting really slow and buggy (800 of 1tb full, lots of music freeware, sample downloads etc.). I already used one of the serial numbers that came with my final cut install box (they're two of the same number?) on a laptop, and now after clearing the drive, it is telling me that the number is invalid. How do i nullify the original use of my serial number from before I cleared my drive? And if it matters, I do have every original file from my hard drive with final cut installed backed up, in case there is any way to restore an entire app and all of its necessary components through time machine. Thanks in advance!

Make sure you're entering the serial number correctly. I think each set of 3 characters is either all numbers or letters (not a combination of numbers and letters). This will help to differentiate zeros from the letter o, etc.

Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard - invalid serial number after transfer

Trying to install my Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard on a new computer.
I followed the instructions to deactivate the licence on the old computer and documented my serial number (out of the REGISTRY). I also got the message, that the deactivation was successful.
When I now try to install the software on the new computer, this fails with a message that the serial number is invalid (but I checked serveral times for typing errors).
Any help?

What is in the registry is not necessarily the serial number. If you registered the software, you can find the serial number under your account on the Adobe website.

Invalid serial number for Acrobat Pro 6.0

I had to reinstall Acrobat Professional 6.0(from a downloaded copy purchased from Adobe.com). The install will not complete. It says "Invalid serial number. Please try again". The only option is to cancel, and then I get the Message: "Adobe Acrobat could not install correctly. Adobe Acrobat was unable to install a necessary component and must quit."
I have verified the number with Adobe Licensing. Adobe Support informs me that they do not support version 6 and the answer is hidden away in the knowledgebase. I have searched the forums and the knowledgebase - to no avail.
Can someone please help or point me to the Doc # (if there is one).
Please do not suggest that I download a pirated version. That is not an option for me.
G4 PowerPC 500MHZ, 1GB SDRAM, 100GB still available on HD. OS X 10.4.11

Invalid Serial Number - Adobe After Effects CS6

Hey Adobe. So, after i finally went through alot of trouble to get Adobe After Effects true the link an MVP gave me, I'm on the final step and I'm having trouble once again. Whenever i try to put in the serial number on the back of the CD box, it says "invalid Serial Number in Adobe After Effects CS6". I just got the box in today in the mail from Amazon, I dont know if im doing something wrong or what. If i have to call i can call cause i can understand there's alot of "Fake" copies out there, but im just hoping to get this through nice and easy. So can anyone help me?

You need to contact Adobe Support either by chat or via phone when you have serial number and activation issues.

Invalid Serial number during upgrade from 10.4.11 to 10.5

I upgraded our Xserve from 10.4.11 to 10.5 and when it first boots after the install, I get to the enter serial number screen. At this point the 10.5 serial number I enter goes through validating and then says invalid serial number format. I have several serial numbers I have tried so I know that a wrong serial is not the cause. I have tried connecting from another computer with server admin and changing the serial number that way, which when, I do shows the 10.4 serial number but then says invalid serial when entering the 10.5 serial. It seems like it is confused on what the serial number or format should be. Is there a way to manually install a serial number or at least get past it so I can then install the most recent update and hope that fixes this issue? I see there were some similar issues with the 10.5.8 update but I think the install dvd is only 10.5 or 10.5.1 maybe.

Well I finally got past it by ssh'ing into the server while it was at the serial number page and issuing it this command and specifying my serial number
/System/Library/ServerSetup/serversetup -setServerSerialNumber xsvr-xxx-xxx-x-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx-x
I then rebooted the server and it came back to the same enter serial number screen but upon entering it one more time, it validated and is happy now.

Acrobat 8 3D "invalid serial number" message

I'm getting the message, "You have entered an invalid serial number. Please reinstall Adobe Acrobat 8 professional and enter in a valid serial number when asked."
However, the fixes on the Adobe forums for this problem state that it occurs due to Creative Suite 3 (CS3) installations, but I haven't had the CS3 installed on this Windows XP SP2 machine.
I only have standalone InDesign CS3 installed, not the suite. I had the beta standalone IDCS3 installed, and uninstalled it before installing the shipping version.
I had the shipping version of FrameMaker 8 standalone installed. I uninstalled it before installing the beta Technical Communications Suite (TCS). I uninstalled it, restarted Windows XP SP2, then installed the shipping version of TCS, registered it, and authorized it.
With the exception of Acrobat 8 3D, the TCS applications run fine.
I've tried repairing the Acrobat 8 3D component of TCS, and also tried updating to 8.1.1, but no change in the message.
I've only found solutions for the invalid license error that relate to CS3, not TCS.
Before I uninstall TCS, which takes over an hour, and then run the CS3 cleanup script at level 2 - the Adobe knowledgebase recommendation, I'd like to know if this procedure has been successful for anyone who has had the problem, but hadn't installed CS3. I don't want to find out that running the CS3 cleanup script level 2 causes damage because the suite isn't and wasn't installed.
Has anyone done this?

If only the bug lists would honor these brave souls by naming the bug discovery after them, as well as identifying them with prosaic bug-database numbers<G>. Your solution was very helpful. Here are some notes that may be helpful to others. I'm also reporting this to the beta program. * Removing TCS with Add/Remove Programs didn't fix it. In addition, somehow, although TCS was removed from the application list in A/R, it seemed to be on my system, even after restarting the computer and Windows! I could launch some of the applications, but because it seemed so uncertain, I didn't want to stop at this point and pray nothing would go wrong later. * I ran Microsoft Install Repair Utility, which seemed not to do much. * I rebooted and reinstalled TCS, but had the same problem with Acrobat 3D, so I figured the cleaning wasn't complete. So I uninstalled it, then ran Microsoft Install Repair again, after which... * I copied a bunch of settings files and third-party scripts and plug-ins from Programs/Application Support/Adobe, and my User/Application Support/Adobe folders for the installed ID CS3, and also zipped the whole installation to preserve any information I might need to recover or information about where things need to go in the directory tree, before uninstalling InDesign CS3 and InCopy CS3. Then I ran the Adobe clean-up script level 2, which ran the Microsoft utility. Just to be "extra careful," I ran the Microsoft utility separately; This time it proposed to remove itself! Must be something to do with having nothing left to clean up? Removing it results in the Adobe cleanup script level 2 reporting that the utility isn't installed, needs to be, and quits. Circles within circles - confusing in its helpful way, or helpful in its confusing way. * I ran the Adobe CS3 Clean Up Script level 2, in the preview mode, to see what it planned to do. It proposed to remove InDesign and InCopy CS3 directories, so I removed them before proceeding. * Finally, ran the CS3 clean up script level 2 for real, rebooted, installed TCS, gave the serial number, and was back in business...almost. - Applications launched OK, including Acrobat 8 3D, but, attempting to save a FM document as PDF displayed an error that Distiller couldn't run because Acrobat 8 3D wasn't activated (even though the TCS activation was working for all apps in the suite). While I was doing another slow burn because this was a reprise of one of the problems that sent me on this Odyssey hours and days earlier, Lo! and Behold!, Distiller launched, then Acrobat opened to display the PDF. I'm guessing that Acrobat 8 wasn't *running* at the time I did Save As PDF, so the error was an error in detecting Acrobat. Man! * I was going to leave out the part where I mistakenly entered the beta-test serial number when launching the new TCS installation, which was accepted and worked up to the point that the validator closed the application! The only solution was to uninstall, run MS utility for good luck, pray, and reinstall, which was successful. I provided the correct serial number, and am back in business. This is pilot error, but it reveals a bug that should be fixed - the application should not give a green check mark (valid serial) indicator to a timed-out serial number. The serial should be invalid if it is invalid. Another bug is that the option to activate the suite by checking an application in the final screen should not provide check boxes for the three applications - the check boxes should be radio buttons. Checking multiple applications opens each checked application and prompts for validation. Very confusing!!! Hoping that this helps others stay out of trouble, or that this helps them find solutions. Intel Xserve Invalid Serial Number

After running the machine for a few hours, I went to install xsan.
Upon installing and rebooting, the machine started to act very funny and became inaccessible except via ssh and ARD (no server admin feedback or anything) Restarting didn't help.
I uninstalled xsan and restarted and now have an: "invalid serial number: serial number already registered" which won't go away at all. Its starting to seem that X server has some serious issues with the intel xserve?

Actually, after being on the phone with apple tech for over 3 hours, here's what I found:
Installing any non 1.4 version of xsan on an intel xserve is incompatable (even though the installation still seems to go through) After installing, all my server admin services started failing, and after running the uninstaller, apple tech said the symptoms of what happened was that the "xsan installer removed key parts of OS X Server licensing dameon and other related serial number files". Supposedly the only way to get xsan on to a intel xserve is installing straight from a 1.4 cd (which I had to weasel them into sending me a new updated copy)

Photoshop CS2- Invalid Serial Number

I am installing my Adobe Photoshop CS2 on Windows Vista.
When I try to install the program after entering my serial number that is on the CD case,
the program states "Invalid Serial Number."
Customer Service gave me new serial numbers to attempt at fixing this issue and those numbers still yielded an "Invalid Serial Number" error.
Tech Support had me create new accounts with admin rights on my laptop (which didn't work) and then gave me a link
about the issue that had nothing to do with me since I have no VCOM software on my laptop (so that too was bogus).
I requested to speak to a manager where the agent diverted with giving me solutions that did not work also in which
he had me use this registry cleaner software and it still didn't work (I didn't have previous adobe software on my computer,
so it wasn't a surprise that it didn't work)
So... Does anyone know how I can install my program on my laptop without getting an Invalid Serial Number error?????

I've only had similar happen once, when I upgraded AI over about 3-4 versions. My S/N was from the first PC release, and the internal database in the upgrade did not recognize the format, or the S/N. In that case, a 5 min. call to C/S resulted in a number to enter from Adobe, and then it took my S/N fine.
Obviously, you've gone that route, and it's not working. Seems that things have changed with C/S, but I am talking over a decade ago. Are you talking to C/S (Customer Service), or T/S (Technical Service)? For "sales" related things, I have found that C/S is the better. I am assuming that they are still separate departments, though both might well be in India.
Now, one question, you say that C/S told you to run on one machine with "administrative rights." Did you try as an Administrator? These are similar, but there can be differences.
Wish I had something else to offer.

Adobe Photoshop cs4 extended invalid serial number

I just bought adobe photoshop cs4 extended from a large retail computer store.I had the trial version of photoshop cs4 extended.I uninstalled the trial version and installed from dvd.I got a Invalid serial number error.I am sure there was a software configuration problem .The reason ,the disk needs to verfy that you have the original disk,If that happens ,After installation ,Just delete this file C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\cache\cache.db This is the location where it installed the serial . After deleteing it will create a new cache.db file and store the serial there that goes with that disk . When you open PS cs4 it will ask to enter serial again.Just enter the serial again that came with box ..I guess this would work also with adobe photoshop cs4

I encountered the same problem with Photoshop CS5 - I had the trial version installed, and now bought the extended version, but it keeps saying the license key is invalid. I did unistall, ran the cleanup tool, but it is still not working. Any help is appreciated.

Invalid serial number

In the middle of a photoshop session the application spontaneously quit (when changing colour palette). This is a totally legal copy of CS2, recently successfully transferred to a new-ish Mac running Snow Leopard. When I tried to restart P'shop it came up with an error message
"Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organisation, or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit."
Subsequent attempts to launch p'shop came up with a supposedly humorous "Space Monkey" splash screen.
This is not remotely funny. I'm in the middle of several urgent jobs and need to use the software. I paid for it, and I expect it to work.
Any suggestions anyone?

Thank you for responding (twice!). I did succeed in downloading the software again and activating using the 'universal' serial number, after deleting the old version. Perhaps you are right that there's something else going on, though I can't imagine what that might be, or why.
Photoshop and Illustrator seem to be running OK now, and I hope it stays that way. I am hoping that I won't be seeing the offensive Space Monkey graphic again.
This kind of behaviour (by Adobe) will not win them any friends. I bought a piece of software for the full price, and it was working fine on my computer. For the company to deliberately shut it down and tell me I can't continue without re-activating, then make me go through a lengthy but ultimately abortive activation process, and THEN have to download and install an entire new suite is appalling, and wastes huge amounts of time.
I contrast this with Apple, whose kit works with the minimum of fuss, and whose apps are available for a few pounds, not hundreds/thousands.

CS2 Installs successfully on Windows 7 but says invalid Serial Number

I just bought a new Dell with Windows 7. When I installed the CS2 Premium software, it accepted my serial number and it also activated the software successfully at the end of installation. When I check my online Adobe account, it shows the activation. It's only when I actually go to use the apps that I get the message that it thinks I have no or an invalid serial number. I'm wondering if Windows 7 is storing the info in a different place or format. Anyone have any suggestions? Adobe no longer supports CS2 and definitely not for Windows 7.

I had same problem. Adobe support (tech support and customer service) are no help. Try this. Deactivate and uninstall the program on your new Windows 7 pc. Then create a new folder on hard drive called " Program Files CS2" or any other name. Do not use the "Program Files" or "Program Files (x86) " folder and do not create a folder with () brackets in the folder name.
After installation, program should come up and not even ask you to "Personalize" it with your name and serial number.
