Invalid Sim on unlocked iPhone 5

Hi
I bought a factory unlocked 16GB iPhone 5 from USA. When I insert Airtel (india) nano sim, it says Sim not valid.
I checked with an apple store, they say it's locked to AT&T. But it was supposed to be an unlocked phone (649$ + taxes).
Though before the activation, an update came - 6.0.2. I did that. Does that remove the unlocking from the factory unlocked phone ?
Model number : MD634LL/A

That's how the receipt looks. Doesnt say unlocked anywhere

  • Overseas sim and unlocked iPhone 4s

I have an unlocked iPhone 4s and i plan to go overseas i want to get a sim card over there but will i have to activate through iTunes like i did when i first got the phone? or is it just insert and use?
    thanks in advance

TFA, sorry to bump an old thread, but I'm in a similar situation - my dad wants to buy an unlocked iPhone 4s which he will use primarily with a UK sim, however he's going to Thailand for 4 months over the winter and will want to put a Thai sim in for this period, and then when he gets back to England, put his UK sim back in.
Did you find that the overseas sim worked straight away after plugging it in (or did you need to sync it), and was this the same when you put your home sim back in?
I'd like to avoid a situation where he has to sync with itunes when he's away (or back home at the airport when he reintroduces his UK sim), as he's not that technically minded.
    Thank you.

I recently got my iPhone unlocked by AT&T. I inserted an international sim in it which has worked fine on other unlocked devices. I get a really low Tmobile signal and am unable to make any calls. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

  • Putting Local SIM into unlocked iPhone 4S

    Hi Guys
My friend is going over to Turkey for a few weeks and would like to use a local sim card for making calls/data.
His 4S is unlocked and was wondering if its just as simple as swapping sim cards over and it works?
He was told he would have to connect his iPhone to iTunes and re-register it?
    Thanks.

Hobbs's link doesn't apply to your question, so you can ignore it.
If the phone is officially unlocked, you can swap sims to your heart's content, no connection to iTunes required. Simply power the phone off, swap sims, then power the phone back on.
Here's a list of supported iPhone carriers. If your friend uses a sim from a supported carrier, there shouldn't be any issues:

  • Invalid SIM card on iPhone 3GS

I live in south america btw. I updated the phone to iOS 5.0.1 and it didn't function correctly so I even had to fix it and now it just tells me at the activation step that the SIM card is not valid. Help ?

where is your phone from?  was it originally sold as officially unlocked?
sounds like you're using a hacked phone, and by updating it, it has relocked to the original carrier.

  • I bought sim-free unlocked iPhone 5s

I bought iPhone 5s with no contact and free-sim.
The back of iPhone is labeled Model A1533.
However, in the Xcode, "iPhone 5s (Model A1453)" is appeared.
    What's the problem with that?

My Xcode version is 5.0.2 (5A3005).
I think Xcode does not have any problems.
Do you know how to contact apple technician through email?
This case is a kind of unique case, I guess.

  • Thanks this was very useful.. I have a brand new iphone 4s unlocked version from singapore and I am having the same problem constant network fluctuations, no service, call failed, invalid sim, sim failure, bars fluctuating from 5 - 3 - 2 - 1, no signal/ba

I have a brand new iphone 4s unlocked version from singapore and I am experiencing constant network fluctuations on my iphone , no service, call failed, invalid sim, sim failure, bars fluctuating from 5 - 3 - 2 - 1, no signal/bars searching etc... Ifeel miserable after trying out all the options changed multiple sims, tried multiple carriers, restored the phone back and have set-up as new device but the problem does not get solved... its is so frustrating that after investing on a world's most expensive phone you cannot enjoy the calling features which the phone offers which is the main thing you own the phone for.. Rest of the things are working.. The funniest part I am not able to make calls or receive calls but can access the internet..  I have tried every possible thing and really very frustrated with this iphone of mine...I hope the problem gets solved.. would anyone have any solutions to this problem.. Does it mean one should never update software as I hear that after updating to IOS.5.1 the problem has started coming and same has been with there.... Apple says its a hardware failure which is very difficult to digest as sometimes I get 5 bars and able to make and receive calls but 95% of the time I am unable to. If anyone has any solution I will be very happy if he or share can share the same. Many thanks. its so disgusting to experience this on top of this apple does not support global warranty for the phone as you need to go to the country from where you bought the phone for replacement.. Truly sad state of affairs.. very very very dissappointing.

Have a look at this it might help

PLEASE HELP ME, WHAT CAN I DO??? In Argentina is too expensive an iPhone 4S. Please I need help to continue believing in Apple. Thanks a lot. If anybody speak spanish better.

Was it purchased from an official Apple Store, not a reseller?  Only Apple Stores sell official factory unlocked phones.  The others sell hacked to unlock phones, and the unlocking is unstable.
    Try these steps, as needed:
    1. Reset phone - press both home and on/off buttons for at least 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
    2. Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    3. Replace SIM card (and reset network settings again)
    4. Restore Phone in iTunes using a backup
    5. Restore in iTunes as new, without using a backup

Who was your original carrier; did you call them to ask them to unlock your phone, and are you aware of what their unlock policy is (THey may only unlock for international sims and not US sims

  • IPhone 5 factory unlocked, invalid sim

My iPhone 5 was factory unlocked by T-Mobile Austria. I've got an unlocking guidance. I've made it through, but I get Invalid SIM error all the time. I've contacted T-Mobile several times, if they completed my request.Their answer was: AL_PENDING_UNLOCK The imei'01341600574xxx' is pending unlock. Any solutions?

If you did not get the "Congratulations, your iPhone is unlocked" message when you restored iOS, then the unlock is NOT complete. Talk to the carrier again. You may also want to call AppleCare and ask them to check the unlock status in their system via the serial number before hand just so you have some ammunition.
Now... I'm not implying that you have done any such thing, but just for the sake of complete information, if the phone was ever hacked, jailbroken, or otherwise "unlocked" by anyone other than the carrier it was originally locked to, it may no longer be possible for it to process a legitimate unlock.
Is it still able to activate using a T-Mobile Austria SIM? Are you the original owner of the phone?

  • Why would a factory-unlocked Iphone get an invalid SIM error?

I bought 2 unlocked iPhones to sell overseas and they are giving an invalid SIM error.  Both of them are the factory-unlocked version.  Could someone help me with this?

Positive that they are unlocked.  I bought them personally at an Apple Store and the invoice says unlocked iPhones (I also paid the unlocked iPhone price).
The Cell Service Provider has iPhone as one of its supported phones.  Not sure exactly which MicroSIM the person is using though.

No one here can help you, & Apple can't/won't help you. Fact is, there is no way to get that iPhone officially unlocked. Only Softbank can authorize the official unlocking of your phone, but they won't. Softbank does not offer official unlocking for any iPhone.
    It is what it is.

  • After unlock my iPhone 4 iOs 6.0.1  is not accepting any sim , i tried using new sim  first it shoes no service then sim failure and invalid sim . what should i do do make it work

after inlocking  my iPhone 4    iOs 6.0.1  it shows no service when i used a new sim .

If it is showing invalid SIM error, then the unlocking is not complete. Depending on what carrier authorized the unlock, most require the phone to be restored before the unlock is complete. Once you restore, you should receive a message stating Congratulations, your phnoe is unlocked. Then you restore the  backup of the device from before the unlock restore.

  • HT201328 My unlocked iPhone 4 shows "No Service" and after airplane mode turned on and off, shows "Invalid SIM"

I recently bought two iPhone 4 phones from my colleague in USA. He unlocked these phones from AT&T. But I did not test it. However, now that I am back to India, and inserted my Indian Vodafone SIM car, the phone shows "No Service" and if turn AirPlane mode ON and then OFF, a message comes as "SIM Failure", and the top left corner shows, "Invalid SIM".
Now, how do I confirm whether my colleague was successfully able to unlock these phones ?
What are the steps to make my Indian Vodafone SIM work ?
    Any support appreciated.

    Hello there Vicky,
Here is a great article for troubleshooting the Cellular connection on your phone. From article iPhone: Troubleshooting a cellular data connection found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3780:
Follow the instructions below for assistance with troubleshooting cellular data issues on your iPhone. After performing each step, please test to see if the issue is resolved.
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings, turn airplane mode on, wait three seconds, and then turn off again.
    Restart your iPhone.
Ensure that your software is up to date:
Check for a Carrier Settings Update. Tap Settings > General > About.
Check for an iOS Software Update. Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
Remove the SIM Card and reinsert it. Allow the iPhone to acquire the network again.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try toggling it off: Tap Settings > Phone > SIM PIN.
Try another location. If a different location works, but the original location still does not, contact your carrier to report the issue.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPhone as new.
    Contact your carrier to:
Verify that the iPhone is properly set up on the account with the appropriate, current data plan.
Verify that there are no account-related blocks.
Find out if there are specific error messages in the carrier logs that could help determine why the issue is occurring.
In order to verify if the phones have been unlocked, the original carrier for them would have to be called.
    Take care,
    Sterling
