Invalid skype numbers in mountain lion?

I have been unable to make some calls today and got the message that the numbers were invalid. Why?

Lars,
I can't say how often Migration works well for moving iWork apps to a new machine, but I can say from the number of problems reported here that it sometimes fails. In those cases, I think the best course is to Uninstall iWork and reinstall from the original media, and then run Software Update before opening any of the apps.
Yvan Koenig has written an Applescript for the uninstall operation that has been used over a thousand times with no reports of problems that I have seen. You can find it on this page of his Box account:

  • Legacy version of Numbers for Mountain Lion

    Hi guys,
I'm having trouble figuring this one out, so I hope somebody can give some advice.
I'm only looking to access a few files created with Numbers several years ago. I haven't used Numbers since then, switched laptops in the meantime, etc. I thought I could simply buy it off the App Store now, but I can only access the newest version which is not compatible with Mountain Lion and it won't point me to a suitable version (as it does with some other apps). I can't find a single legal source of Numbers that is compatible with my version of OS.
Does anyone know how I could solve this and acquire Numbers for Mountain Lion?
I would like to avoid updating OS X.
    Cheers
    Julia

    Hi Julia,
As no-one else has replied, here is a suggestion. With your favourite Web Search Engine, do a search for iWork '09 eBay. You may be able to purchase a DVD version of iWork '09. After you install, go to App Store and check for updates (not for the latest operating system, but for any minor updates to Numbers '09 to bring it into line with your current OS X). Do this before you try to launch Numbers '09.
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • Skype problem on Mountain Lion - possible solution!

    Worked for me!
I noticed that when I tried to launch Skype on newly downloaded Mountain Lion the small app - iGlasses- also tried to launch .
I deleted iGlasses and all its components using search in Finder. There are also  several iGlasses files in Library - once they were all gone and you can tell they are gone once iGlasses doesn't come up in Skype - success!
Skype now works. In my case it was definitely a conflict with iGlasses.
If you are still having a problem launching Skype could there be a software conflict ?

Yes. No surprise. Third Party software conflicts are the main cause of system issues, conflicts and failures. Thanks for letting us know of yet another one to add to the long list.

  • Glitch with Numbers in Mountain Lion

I upgraded to Mountain Lion and the latest Numbers version and notice a glitch in an existing spreadsheet. I have a column that, before the upgrade, displayed the day, then on the next line the date in M/D/YY format. Like this:
    Thursday
    7/26/12
I had set this up a a custom format for cells in that column.
After upgrading, the day and date appear on the same line with a  "box" symbol between them. When I attempt to set up this same format in the new version of Numbers, it is impossible to insert a return (or soft return) into the format. Has anyone else noticed this or am I missing something?

1.I cannot transfer photo's received via emails into iphoto.
This is a known issue with 10.8.2, and hopefully will be fixed in 10.8.3. The workaround is to drag the photos from the email to the iPhoto icon on the dock. Until Apple fix this with the OS update, there is no fix.
    2. When looking at photo's in a particular album, the iphoto program just "jumps" from one album to another even if I'm editing.
I post a lot on the iPhoto forum, and frankly, have never seen this reported anywhere. Honestly, that sounds like a problem with a setting on your mouse. But there are things to try - like use another mouse for a while and see if it repeats? Or try another library and see if it repeats.
As a general rule, people are more likely to respond to issues clearly stated and not crowded out with tedious editorialising.

  • Applescript flow disrupted in Mountain Lion

Has anyone else had problems with AppleScript in Mountain Lion?
I have a script with a repeat loop that looks through every sheet in a Numbers document to gather data from the pages.  Previously (in Lion and Snow Leopard) it zipped through the document taking literally only a couple seconds.  Now it crawls through, taking minutes!!!  (No exaggeration)  It still works, however, gathering all the data correctly without completely halting or crashing, it just takes an absurd amount of time.
I was able to debug a few other scripts that stopped working completely in Mountain Lion (as it turns out due to changes in window/sheet naming), but this one still works and I can't figure out why it would slow down to a crawl.  Anything different about AppleScript with Numbers in Mountain Lion that I should know about?
    Thanks!

Actually the main script itself doesn't involve any GUI scripting, which I avoid unless absolutely necessary, but I forgot that the keyboard shortcut that triggers it has one tiny GUI command before triggering the AppleScript, and it turns out that's where the hangup was!  I had forgotten I had it in there, and with Mountain Lion's subtle changes to the GUI names of things it got confused.  **** GUI.  I wish everything was scriptable.  Anyway, it's super fast again now that I removed the GUI command.  Thanks for reminding me!

  • Numbers won't open documents in Mountain Lion.

I have a Mid 2011 Mac Mini that shipped with Mountain Lion. I installed iWork from the original DVD and ran software updates to get the latest release. The apps launch, but will not open any of my iWork documents. I get the following errors in the  logs:
8/13/12 5:22:44.903 PM Numbers[6566]: Exception opening document: *** -[NSConcreteData initWithContentsOfFile:options:error:]: nil file argument
8/13/12 5:22:44.904 PM Numbers[6566]: Failed to open document, but no unrecoverable error
And I sometimes get the following error on screen "The document "document name" could not be opened." note "document name" is actually the name of the document I am trying to open.
I've uninstalled the application manually, and with AppZapper on 3 seperate occasions, making sure to clear out any preference files, empty the trash and reboot afterwards. Then reinstalled and ran updates after logging back in, but to no-avail. If I try to open the template viewer I get these errors in the log.
8/13/12 5:33:03.772 PM Numbers[6566]: Exception caught by top level: NSInvalidArgumentException : *** -[NSConcreteData initWithContentsOfFile:options:error:]: nil file argument
8/13/12 5:33:03.773 PM Numbers[6566]: Exception caught by top level: NSInvalidArgumentException : *** -[NSConcreteData initWithContentsOfFile:options:error:]: nil file argument

8/13/12 5:33:05.725 PM Numbers[6566]: Exception caught by top level: NSInternalInconsistencyException : Invalid parameter not satisfying: aString != nil
Pages and Keynote seem to have the same issue, I can't create new documents or open exitsing ones. I can keep uninstalling and reinstalling, but that doesn't seem to be the correct path. Anyone have any ideas?

I ended up finding a solution on my own. I re-uninstalled the iWork apps, deleting the apps, preferences and library\application support\iWork folder at the root of the Macintosh HD. After a restart, reinstalled the iWork software from my DVD. I then manually downloaded and installed the iWork 9.2 upgrade from Apple, http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1563 , instead of using the App Store software update method. Once completed, I ran permissions repair for good measure, though nothing was repaired. Launched and the apps are working as expected.

  • After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

After upgrading to Mountain Lion, I cannot open my File Maker Pro files. Can I use Numbers to open these files?

Numbers is a spreadsheet program and FileMaker is a database program, so you probably can't use Numbers to open them unless you had first exported them from FileMaker in a spreadsheet-compatible format.
If you upgraded from 10.6 Snow Leopard or earlier and your old copy of FileMaker won't open anymore, it might be a PowerPC application that is not compatible with 10.7 and later. If that is the case, to work with your FileMaker files you should upgrade your copy of FileMaker to the latest version, which seems to be FileMaker 12.

Looking forward to hearing from somebody with a littlemore expertise than me, Chris

you can remove preferences files by navigating to the Preferences folder for your user as follows:
    0) Quit ALL iWork apps (Keynote, Pages and Numbers)
    1) from the Finder select the menu item "Go > Go To Folder…".  This will bring up a dialog:
    2) enter the path "~/Library/Preferences" (no double quotes)
    3) find the files:
    com.apple.iWork.Keynote.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist
and move these to the trash.  I would NOT empty until later.
    4) restart Numbers

  • How do I apply multi-numbered lists in Notes app on iPad without a Tab key? E.g. I can do 1.a.i in Notes on Mountain Lion but not on iPad. The numbering style does not sync properly.

This is what it looks like in Mountain Lion
This is what it looks like on my iPad/iPhone. It has lost the number formattion.
How do I tab on an iPad to get the multi-level numbers anyway??

iWork '09 is not "outdated" it still works and works extremely well and whilst not perfect with MsWord it is far far better than Pages 5.2 which has a stream of major issues with exporting. It is also way better and faster to use than Microsoft Office.
So what is your time and work actually worth? If it is less than $19.99 for 6 months, you may as well just chuck it in and take that job on minimum wages.
You are assuming things for Office 2014 with absolutely no inside knowledge. Much as we assumed Pages 5 was going to be the long awaited improvement, but ended up being a downgrade to match the iOS version, Microsoft is headed the same way with their mobile versions.
This is not like getting the "latest" pair of pants where you go with the crowd and throw out your cigarette legs which replaced the flares, which replaced your low cuts which replaced your cigarette legs, which replaced…
    This is work.
If it does the job and does it well, use it. There is nothing out there to really match what Pages '09 does. Yet.
LibreOffice can do most but not all, but has a UI that only a mother could love. It's great redemption is that it uses both open formats and the standard Microsoft formats and is under active development. It also opens and saves to just about everything. When they finally work out the Pages formats, I'm sure they will open those as well.
I use a lot of professional software. Just because the publisher's marketing department says change the product so we can sell more, doesn't mean you have to pay any attention whatsoever. Adobe being a classical example. Most designers are just ignoring their latest subscription based bloatware and getting on with their work.

  • Mountain Lion problems with Mail Signatures, Pages, Numbers, Keynote - This quick fix solved all my problems with these. Pages etc wouldn't launch and needed to be force quitted. Mail signature changes wouldn't save.

The solution was simple in my case. I don't know why it worked and it may have been entirely coincidental but its worth a try.
Close all applications and restart Mountain Lion.
Log in as Guest. I opened Pages at this point but I don't know if that's required.
Log out and then back in as your normal user.
Pages, Numbers and Keynote now were fine for me and Mail signature changes were saved and available for later use.
For those trying to edit the signatures to get their old ones back - I just found an old sent mail and copied the signature there into the newly created one via the normal preferences. No need for opening .mailsignature files and editing them. This included various colours, sizes, an image and a link with no problems.
I hope this helps anyone having some of these problems.

  • Not able to visualize the person I'm calling on Skype anymore, now that upgraded to Mountain Lion operating system. Any suggestions?

Right after I downloaded the new Mountain Lion OS, I was not able to see the person I'm calling on Skype. The person I'm calling has no issue with the video streaming, however. Is this a Mountain Lion issue, a Skype issue or some of each? From looking at the Skype site, it seems alot of other people are having similar problems with using all the functions of Skype since downloading the new OS.

Are you using the most recent version of Skype?
Also, if the person on the far end is using a Mac or an iPad, you may want to consider FaceTime.  The video quality is scads better.

  • Since mountain lion Find in Numbers 3-4 columns of data missing and some columns in the wrong order. Fortunately I have a back up on my iPad and was able to put that version in as a new file. Why has this happened ?

Since mountain lion I have noticed 3-4 columns of data missing from a Numbers file. I have fortunately been able to replace the total file from my iPad version but why has this happened. Makes me lose trust in Numbers

    That would be strange.

  • I Cant Upgrade my Numbers and Pages in Mountain Lion

    Dear
When I click to upgrad software in apple bouton, the appstore appair and tell no upgrade available. Then  I Cant Upgrade my Numbers and Pages.I Have juste install Mountain lion.
    Thank for your help

iWork '09 installed from the retail disk or from the downloaded trial must be updated through Software Update. In Mountain Lion Software Update has been "rolled into" the Mac App Store. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu just like you always have & the Mac App Store will launch. Depending on what you have that needs updating you may see two sections in the MAS window.
But, as always, if you're not running the latest versions of the iWork apps installed from a retail box or the downloaded trial & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
You can try the standalone updater found on this page.
