"Invalid time", Code "24", Encore CS3

After rendering six motion thumbnails with video clips ranging in length from 1:28 minutes to 3:27 minutes, with menu duration set to 5 minutes before looping, the burn to BD stops with the following message:
Blu-ray Object: "Shop Menu", Error: "invalid time", Code: "24", Note: "start + duration exceeds clip duration" ("Shop Menu" is the name of the menu I am trying to burn)
I cannot find any reference to Code 24 either in the manual or the help. The durations of all of the clips are shorter than than the duration set in the menu, so I can make no sense out of this error message.
Can anyone explain what is going on?
Thanks.

I was finally able to complete my menu using an apparent workaround that I found.
I first looked at the original cryptic message, "start + duration exceeds clip duration," to try to imagine what some programmer was trying to describe. I have no idea what "start" is, but I assume it is associated with some interval of time which when added to "duration" cannot exceed "clip duration." "Duration," I believe, refers to a numeric field within the menu properties that sets the running time of the menu before it loops. "Clip duration," I guessed, referred to the running time of one of the clips that run within the thumbnail windows -- probably the longest-running one, as the message suggests that it must exceed the duration of the menu (the menu duration must not exceed the duration of the clip).
I noticed something else, too. When one links an audio asset to the menu (in properties), the program automatically adjusts menu duration to exactly match the duration of the audio track. For example, my audio asset (WAV file) runs 2:47:13. When I associated it with the audio link in properties, Encore automatically adjusted the menu duration to 2:47:13 to match the audio. The audio asset, therefore, controls menu "duration."
The duration of my longest-running clip is 3:28:13, which is 19 seconds longer than the audio track in the menu (and, therefore, the menu), so "duration" does not exceed "clip duration."
This is my best guess what is meant by the error message -- and it works.
In summary, I recommend to first set your audio track duration (length) before importing to the menu. Link that to the menu properties first, before adding clips, which will trigger an auto reset of the menu duration. Then just be sure you have at least one clip running in your thumbnails that exceeds the duration of the menu audio.
I now consider this issue resolved -- at least for me.

  • CS6 Timeline "Invalid Time" error

    Win7 Home. All updates to CS6.
    Have four timelines. No errors on Check Project. Build Blu-ray fails after sometime into the build. Get an "Adobe Encore Window" with: Blu-ray Object: "<Timeline> scrap best", Error: "Invalid Time", Code: "24", Note: "presentation composition times may not overlap". After clicking on "OK" get the "Build Program Failed" message. I can find nothing wrong with the timeline content. Any idea what this error means?

    Stan,
    Here are four "snips". All 4 utilize the same sequence of images (assets not slideshow). The mid row-left is the PPRO CS4 showing the chapter markers and each individual image.  The top row is the resulting Encore CS4 timeline showing the individual images and chapter markers. No actual images show up since did not want to spend time locating the images. The mid row-right is the PPRO CS6 representtion of the same image sequence. Note that the "marker" window shows that encore chapter markers exist in same place as CS4. One thing different is the marker images are above the timeline ruler and seem to have in/out points. Not sure what this is for but they are chapter markers since can move forward/back using the previous/next chapter buttons. The bottom row is the resulting Encore CS6 presentation of the PPRO CS6 sequence. Note that it comes in as a "merged" video and there are no chapter markers.
    The merged video I can live with for this project. Would save time; however, if the chapter markers were present. I could just manually reinsert them in Encore if necessary. By the way, I tried a different timeline story with it's "repaired" PPRO folders and it generated the folder just fine. Looks like the major problem is solved.

  • Chapter markers don't work- Encore CS3

    ]I am working on a 1280 x 720 Blu-ray NTSC project, in Encore CS3, version 3.0.2.007 on a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon, 3 GB of RAM and running OS X 10.5.3. I am new to Encore, came from DVDSP.
    ]Basically I have one menu and 3 timelines that use chapters. I successfully placed the chapter markers where I wanted them, however when I preview the disc and I click on the chapter next button, the video jumps to that chapter for a frame and then returns to where it was playing before I clicked on the chapter next button. On the display, it says I am at the next chapter, when visually I am not. Works the same going backwards.
    ]When I preview the timeline in the Monitor, the chapter advance button only works if I double-click on it. Otherwise I have the same problem.
    ]None of the chapters have stops and there are no overrides or anything disabled.
    ]The video assets are .mov files, they have yet to be encoded.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem? Any thoughts would be helpful.

    I'm having a similar problem... I exported Blu-ray h.264 with many Encore chapter points, but the chapters didn't carry through to Encore. Now I find myself having to manually copy and paste the chapter time codes from Premiere CS3 to my Encore CS3 timeline, made more complicated by the fact that my pathetic little quad core with only 4GB RAM can barely run Encore, much less Encore plus Premiere at the same time so I can copy/paste chapter timecodes between the two apps.. :(

  • Internal Software error PGC  for encore CS3 !!! solved  !!!

    Almost everybody here knows the next error:
    PGC "timeline name" has an error at xx:xx:xx:xy internal software error : %0, line timeline name - PGCINFO: name= timeline name, ref=BPGC, time=xx:xx:xx:xy
    Where the y in time stands for the length of the timeline minus 2 frames. The BPGC error can also be FPGC or DPGC dependant on how many menu's there are in the project.
    It kept me awake for weeks and after reading this forum several times and comparing encore CS3 with encore 2.0 filenames I found the solution.
    This Error is a bug in encore witch has nothing to do with blank filename spots and sonic coding or codecs or planning your workflow with a pencil but pure with the combination Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3.
    This is what generates the problem:
    In Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 you build project with video, sound and chapters. Then you export the project via the Media Encoder not Multplexed.
    Premiere CS3 then creates the following files:
    filename.M2V (video file mpg)
    filename.AC3 (audio file ac3)
    filename.M2V.XMPSES (an adobe file with preview info and chapter pointers)
    filname.XMP (??)
    It is the .M2V.XMPSES file witch creates the PGC error. If you use the MULTIPLEX DVD option then ADOBE will not create the .M2V.XMPSES file so there will not be an error. This trick mentioned by ADOBE and many others is just to go around the bug instead of solving it. Also with multiplex you have just one sound track. I use two sound tracks like 5.1 and a 2.0 track witch you can choose in a menu.
    Some people say it is the blank spots. Also not true. They have probably just erased the blank spots of the M2V file and forgot the .M2V.XMPSES file.
    When you just delete the .M2V.XMPSES file and then open the M2V and AC3 file in Encore as a new asset, make a timeline and menu's and the project will built and burn. Only if you delete this .M2V.XMPSES file Encore takes a longer time to import the M2V file and will be without the chapter points.
    Almost everything else will work like menu with sound and even a movie background (use M2V files). Only the motion buttons in a menu still wont work unless you use a black background !?!. Haven't figured this out yet. Only solution for this is use Encore 2.0. In this older version also the motion buttons will work without error's (everything else also so why buy CS3??)
    Here is what you must do create a DVD without errors:
    -Create a project in Premiere Pro, even with chapters.
    -Write down all chapter points (minutes:seconds:frames)
    -Create two new unique maps in explorer for example D:DVD1 and D:DVD2
    -Export in Premiere with Media Encoder without the Multiplex:DVD but with NON to the D:DVD1 map
    -Copy from D:DVD1 only the M2V and AC3 files to D:DVD2
    -Start up Encore DVD CS3 or 2.0
    -Create a new unique project in Encore for example "DVD" and save this in the map D:DVD2\
    -Then use Save-as (under file) and pinpoint to D:DVD2\dvd to be sure that all Encore's files are placed in this folder.
    -Select M2V file and make new timeline.
    -Make chapter points (you wrote down the points, did you?)
    -Create menu's, even with sound (AC3) and movie background (M2V)
    -Then render project if you have used a video for menu background
    -Finally Built and burnnnnnn!!
    -If you like to use motion buttons in a menu then use Encore 2.0
    I have double checked my work flow and it really works. I have built a project and burned with success Then I deleted the timeline and the M2V file. Copied the .M2V.XMPSES file in the used folder. Re loaded the M2V file in encore (this time much faster! and with chapter points). Tried to built and burn and back was the error. Also this happened in in Encore 2.0!!
    Hope that this will solve the PGC error once and for all !!!

    > Where the y in time stands for the length of the timeline minus 2 frames.
    This can actually vary, and so far at least, I don't think we've seen a pattern as to type of pgc error based on how many frames from the end it reports.
    > The BPGC error can also be FPGC or DPGC dependant on how many menu's there are in the project.
    Number of menus is not relevant; the iteration of the first letter is more related to subsequent occurrences of the error. In my current tests it did not always update; they may have been too similar.
    > This is what generates the problem...
    Well, the problem does not occur every time you do what you describe, any more than it occurs every time spaces are left in the file names. What you have is, as some other suggestions, a workaround. Thats not bad, and I wonder if you are onto something as to what is contributing to the problem.
    So, on to the interesting part whether the xmpses file, or at least what Encore is doing with it, is contributing something. I took an old test project that throws the PGC error and did some experiments.
    Background. I am a user who does get the pgc errors regularly, but not always. Creative Suite Production Premium, with PPro CS3 3.2.0 (374) and Encore 3.0.1.008. Pentium 4 2.8GHz 2G RAM, XP SP3, Multiple drives, Nvidia GEforce4 MX440 i.e. an older system. I have lots of stuff loaded and running, including virus protection and firewall, so there are any number of potential conflicts. But I get no crashes, and only one problem other than the pgc. (PPro and Encore monitor windows do this diagonal thing I suspect the display card, but the drivers are up to date. Maxing and then back to fit fixes it.)
    If you want to attempt to replicate my studies, here is a link to my problem clip and the first Encore project I describe.
    http://www.videoandcomputer.com/test/pgc_test.htm
    This project involves a very short AVI export from PPro CS3 - just over 8 seconds - called pgcbad_clip1.avi. Just to answer any question, the source is dv camera capture, and the source and avi export I use are dv avi type 2. There were no effects added on the timeline.
    Test 1: Create a project in Encore CS3. Use the sunset menu and delete all the buttons except "play all." Import the avi as a timeline. Set the timeline end action as "return to last menu" and set the button link to the timeline. Auto transcode. (Project settings are 8mbps max and a3c.) Check project shows okay; there is never a problem with that. Build to a DVD folder in a new folder. This project throws the pgc error.
    Test 2: Now create a new Encore project in a new folder. Use the same process, except import as timeline the m2v and a3c files from the first run. (I.e. if the clip is pgcbad_clip1.avi, in the test1 project folders, there is a folder called pgcbad_clip1.avi that has 6 files.) Note that in the folder they are imported from is an xmpses file from the first project's encore transcode. The build again fails with the pgc error - same frame, etc, but I really think the frame number doesn't matter.
    Test 3: Now create another new Encore project in a new folder. Use same process, but before importing the m2v and a3c as timeline, delete the xmpses file. Drumroll...... Build succeeds!
    Go figure.
    This is not the repeatable bug option weve been looking for, but based on a clip that always fails, it does demonstrate the odd event of deleting the xmpses file as a workaround. I wonder if that will give adobe something to work with.
    Can anyone else get my clip to work/not work in a straight project?
    Test 4: Just to answer the question since the avi file fails here, will the elemental option succeed? I exported elemental m2v and wav from PPro, used the same project process, and transcoded the wav. That build also works! I have seen this work both ways. I have had projects where the elemental failed, and an avi export worked. I do believe the elemental options work more consistently. But my project that I completed yesterday used all avi exports, animated buttons in the submenu, - no pgc error.

  • Problems writing with Encore CS3- Sense Code 30200

    I hope someone can help. I am running into an error everytime I try to export to Encore CS3 from Premier ProCS3. The render works fine but shortly into the "write" I get an error: "hardware error Sense Code30200". I am using an HPXW8200 with dual 3.6 GHz xeon processors with an HP dvd 740 burner and Sony DVD+R for media. I have tried updating firmware (the current version is HI24) and that hasn't worked. Any ideas? Is this a drive compatibility issue? Thanks in advance for any help.

    As Neil points out, Sense Code errors are almost always burner, or media.
    These two things can often be "fixed" with a burner firmware update (ImgBurn will give you firmware versions, and these can be checked on the mfgr's site), or by using different, better blank media.
    If your burner is a fully-certified multi-drive, the media "type" should not be an issue, but the brand certainly can be. If it's not a certified multi-drive, then the media type can be an issue.
    What brand of media are you using? Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden are about as good as it gets. Many others, not so good, to downright horrible and unusable. Brands, such as Ritek, Memorex and TDK can be impossible to work with.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Encore CS3 crash when i click Build (SWF, BluRay, DVD Burn/Image/Folder) or Check project

    So I'm finally done with my DVD. Now i want this burned to a dvd or make an image file. Each time i hit BUILD or START (Check proj) the program quits and I'm left with the normal OS X message: The application Adobe Encore quit unexpectedly >> Ignore - Report... - Relaunch
    My DVD is not that fancy but i got a menu with 3 buttons made in PS with a pointer highlight and a animating background made in After Effects (using dynamic link) with some music. All of the buttons link to After effects comps with dynamic link. All of the after effects compositions are transcoded and works within the DVD preview (except the DVD menu background wont play, and i got a feeling it will play when i export an image or DVD). And all the After Effects comps links back 2 the menu when done. So there should be no error in the project flowchart.
    My flowchart: http://www3.sqr.no/index.php/get/64a267e640fddd15128d082abb72e3d92a3aedf680aabe20995beb7e e10ae32f
    (small jpg file)
    So i hit build and Encore quits, shut down, finada (Every time!). No matter what out put settings i use. I've exported DVD's from encore before on this computer without problems.

    Don't know if this any help but hope anybody got some ideas. I've been trying to look for a solution on the forums, but without any luck.
    By the way, I'm using a Mac Pro v3,1 (early 2008) with 2 x 2,8ghz quads, 10GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (512mb) and plenty of disk space.

    Hey, i think if there could be any of the possibilities you talk about, it might have been a naming error. All files i created had the same name in the new project as in the old one. But i used 1 asset arrow that i copy pasted from a library button "Red facets button" and shift pasted on my own buttons as highlight (paste sub picture). In the first project i did not do this as a straight forward thing, a lot of deleting and adding because i had never done it before and there might have happened something with the naming of the arrow i pasted. I used the same arrow in the second project but without messing with delete, paste all the time. But some how there is no problems now, just something wrong with the last project file =S
    Not so important:
    I also noticed while building the new project i once got an "General error", not sure why but happened after a random crash. And 2 get rid of it i had to delete the menu and make it again (i could not edit anything in the menu without getting the error). I rebuild the menu and had another crash when exiting the program, because i thought my computer needs to boot after 2 days online. When i reopened the project i got "General error" in the menu again, but after some clicking it didn't show up (random). Finally i got my project setup and everything works, i did the copy past as sub picture as a straight forward thing.

  • Encore CS3 not burning to disc?

    Hi all,
    I am using CS3 Encore and up to now have been very successful when creating a Blu-Ray DVD.
    Most of my footage has been around 1-11/2 hours long so I have always left it on Auto transcode and its been fine.
    However, I have created a project at 1 hour 57 mins but now after waiting 7 hours each time for rendering, it pops out the disc and tells
    me that there is a Encore CS3; Blu-Ray burning .... "Device Error", Code "3", Note: "AS-Storage Error= -97140.
    I have also burned an image file which ends up as a 23.83 GB file, leaving just 1.17GB space on disc but will not burn?
    I have reverted to burning a 1 1/2 disc and it does it fine. I am told by another that the file ends up as too larger a file to burn?
    OK, as nobody seems to have solved this issue while searching the net, I was wondering if I could get some help with the transcode settings?
    The transcode setting have been change by me many times from.... Min 1.5  Target 25  Max 30, Down to  Min 1.5,  Target 17,  Max 20.
    However, the final project before going to burn is still 23.83GB, and the same error:  Encore CS3; Blu-Ray burning .... "Device Error", Code "3", Note: "AS-Storage Error= -97140 is showing after ejecting disc?
    can anyone please help?
    Thanks
    Alan Grove

    Hi Jeff, thanks for that I will give it a go.
    Something I dont understand?
    When I put project together it says in EN that the disc has 12gb used with
    12Gb unused.
    Yet when I build it tells me that the disc has used 23.83 GB and has 1.7Gb
    free?
    I wish I understood these bloody programmes he he.
    I am used to just putting in a disc and being told immediately if it will
    burn after 7 hours waiting?
    Cheers

  • Invalid Security Code for my valid debit card?

    Really!!!! I guess poor people like me who spend so much money on the **** device first of all (iPhone) and the **** phone bill, have a limit to purchasing "FREE" apps from the app store because apparently, now my apple ID won't accept my debit card information! INVALID SECURITY CODE!!! -____-
    Tried to to work around this stupid obstacle. 1000 times maybe. Tried using my Husband's debit card, my siblings credit card...NOTHING. Still, my apple ID didn't want to accept the info. WHAT TO DO, WHAT TO DO. Not like my whole life revolves around buying apps from the app store via Iphone, its just...THATS WHAT I BOUGHT THE **** PHONE FOR, the benefits...the whole shabang!
    So I discoverved that I could make a new apple ID. How convenient it was for me to make a new email address - a valid one, and make a new apple ID. I scored! GENIUS. The option isnt there though. You need to sign out of your current apple ID and then the option tabs pop up. SMART MOVE. smart *** move.

    Sasha,
         You'll need to contact your bank and make sure that your name and billing address match EXACTLY with the name and billing address on your iTunes account, and if they don't then you'll need to update that information on your iTunes account.  If they don't match then you're eventually going to have the same problem with your new Apple ID.

  • Looking for a sample of the Flash Export from Encore CS3

    I am close to upgrading to the CS3 Production Premium and one of the features that intrigues me is the Flash export from Encore CS3. I have searched the Adobe site without success for a sample of what an exported project looks like and functions on the web. Can anyone point me to a on-line sample of an exported project? Thanks in advance :)

    'Black Gaps' in Flash usually come from the Flash trying to locate & load the next Flash file. Without a Pre-Loader, you will probably always have this... especially if your quality is set too high. This equates to longer load/buffer times which means there is nothing to display until there is enough video loaded in the buffer to play.
    If your ultimate goal is to create Video for the Web... you'll need to learn proper techniques for producing video for the web. It is much different than producing video for TV or DVD. On the web you have to compress your video a lot more therefore you should not use a lot of Motion/Movement in your Characters, Camera, Media, Motion Backgrounds, etc. The less Motion/Movement you have means you can lower your quality settings but still get awesome looking video & good load times eliminating the Black Gaps and making an all around smoother internet presentation/experience.

  • StreamCorruptedException : invalid Type Code AC .. In case of a network app

    Hi
    I am developing a peer-peer application here.
    What i have is a client and a server on each user, both running parallell.
    User A sends an object to User B through an ObjectOutputStream through the main thread.
    User B reads it using an ObjectInputStream and passes the object that it read, to a new ObjectOutputStream, to be passed to User C.
    User C just reads the incoming object using ObjectInputStream.
    This iteration runs successfully for the first run!
    The moment I go for the second iteration using User A, the method on User B throws a "invalid type code AC".
    class Main{
    Socket sock;
    psvm(String args[]){
    Client newCli = new Client();
    newCli.setSock(<Sets the sock after getting the port and IP address from the user>);
    sock = newCli.getSock();
    ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream(sock.getOutputStream());
    oos.writeObject(new Client());
    Class Server extends thread{
    public void run(){
    while(true){
    ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(sock.getInputStream());
    ois.readObject();
    I read through this post on this forum and "EJP" asks that one OOS and one OIS be maintained per socket.
    So what i did was add a setter method to the Client class which stores the Socket, and called the setter method instead of creating a new ObjectOutputStream object everytime. This way one ObjectOutputStream object would be maintained per socket per client class's instance.
    class Client{
    Socket sock;
    ObjectOutputStream oos;
    //Getter and setter for sock.
    getSock()....
    setSock()....
    //Getter and setter for ObjectOutputStream
    getOos()....
    setOos(){
    oos = new ObjectOutputStream(getSock().getOutputStream());
    When i do this, the initial iteration itself fails.
    I am posting the outline of my code since it is a big file. But if writing out a smaller version of the app and posting it here will help better understand the scenario, then I'll do it.
    I am re-posting this, coz in the previous posts regarding this same issue, i found that people were writing and reading on the application. While mine is a case of a client-server send and receive.
    I am just writing multiple times at the client and reading multiple times at the server. And each time i'm creating a fresh ObjectOutputStream object, and Client object.
    I don't close the streams since that closes the sockets, but i need to keep the sockets open and send multiple objects on the same socket.
    The explanation is a bit lengthy, so let me know if something is not clear. :)
    Thanks
    Akshay

    I'd be grateful if someone can throw some light on this issue, i have to get beyond this ASAP, and i cannot find a workaround at all.. :/

  • PGC error when burning in Encore CS3 ... help

    I've looked and can not find any one else with exactly this problem. I recently upgraded to Adobe Creative Suite 3 and can not get a DVD to burn. The project checks fine, the files transcode without difficulty but during the burning process, I very quickly get a PGC "file name" error.
    I have a Sony Pentium 4, 2 GHz, with 1.21 G of RAM, and plenty (30 G) free on my hard drive. I have a 16X Memorex DVD burner which is probably 6 months old, but up until now has worked great. I've tried several different brands of DVD-R media and same problem.
    I'd describe myself as an advanced amateur at video making. I taught myself on Nova's Video Explosion and burned 100's of dvd's on the Sonic's My DVD program over the past 5 years. Actually that system worked well, but I'd outgrown it. I downloaded Encore 2.0 free 30 day trial and loved it. I'd import (uncompressed) avi files that I'd created in other programs (mostly Video Explosion, but also Movie Shaker, and Windows Movie Maker), create menus in PS CS2 and my DVD's burned quickly and without errors at all. When my 30 days expired, I found they no longer offered 2.0 and I decided to spend the big bucks at got Creative Suite 3 really solely for Encore.
    I've now spent 3 days trying all kinds of different things, many different files from different sources and I always get the same error message of "PGC "file name" has an error at "time" internal software error %0, line "file name:, time 00:"time", ref= BPGC.
    I did read some messages on here about uncompressed avi vs. compressed avi. I did find that I was using uncompressed avi, but when I used Adobe premiere and rendered as MPEG 2 ( I believe), I got the same error. The only success (?) I had was when I rendered a file as a .MOV. It did burn without the dreaded error message, but the quality was extremely poor and jumpy.
    Any ideas? I've got a project due in a couple of days and at present I've got files that I can't get to DVD...

    So, finally I've found the source of the problem and a workaround!
    First the source:
    when Encore has to transcode a video it must corrupt the file, because it's the transcoded file that causes the problem, I tried this by importing a transcoded file into Encore 1.5 there it came with the same error.
    Now the workaround, ok maybe it isn't quite a workaround but it's a way to go:
    What I did was: I built my project new in Encore 1.5, because Encore 2.0 has a problem importing the videos by me, but if you would just import the videos in 1.5 and let 1.5 transcode them so that all of them would fit on a DVD you should be able to import the transcoded files in CS3 and it should work, no guarantee.
    Other possibility: try opening your project in encore 2.0 and re import your videos there and let 2.0 do all of the transcoding, that might work too!
    But for certain: don't let encore CS3 do all the transcoding!
    I'm working with PAL files I don't know if it will be the same by NTSC, but it's worth a try!
    If anybody feels like reproducing the bug, here is the way to do it:
    Make a project in Encore CS3 and import Videos encoded by premiere as MPG2-DVD (I think: .m2v .wav) and set the transcoding options to automatic, encore should have to transcode the files. Then let encore make the DVD, at some point you should get that nice PGC error!

  • Invalid Security Code/Being charged and not receiving app.

    Well, This just started happening after I downloaded the new version of iTunes. I needed to change my billing info, just like it seems everyone else has been doing and getting the same problem I have "invalid security code", You know the nice little 3 digit number on the back of the card? Yea, well I had used this card with iTunes once before and it worked perfectly, it is a pioneer debit mastercard. Now, the thing thats ******* me of really bad is (no, not that its not accepting the security code) I've been charged for buying an app I have yet to receive. So this is telling me there is a flaw in the programming some where, to be told by the program that my security code is wrong while at the same time deducting money from my account and not providing me the application.

    Really? It is showing up in your iTunes purchase history?
    Or is there simply a $1 hold showing up on your card, to verify the account is good?
    iTunes does this whenever you enter new card. The hold will be removed usually within 24 hours.
