Invalid video asset

Hi everybody,
I have this error message when burning a DVD...
I believe it could be a codec issue, but I am not sure how to solve it...
Does anybody know how could I fix that?
Thanks a lot!

Settings: dv-pal 100% quality progressive 4:3
Exactly, I played it before and works fine, besides it works fine with the simulator in DVDSP...
It starts burning and after around 2 hours (the disc meter shows 2.4GB) it stops and gives the error message: track 1 (that is the only one I have): invalid video asset...
I hope not to omit more info to you, I really appreciate all your posts!!
I don´t get what is going on...

  • Newbie - Invalid Video Assets

I'm wokring off a co-workers DVDSP file & am lost!!
I had to re-link all of the original source files (all QT movies) for audio & video. The program simulates the DVD fine but when I try to burn it just says Invalid Video Asset. I can't find any other details on what this error means.
Client is waiting - please help!

evening - I have had the same problem as well - just discovered the fault (and yes its human error). when you export from FCP try selecting to "recompress".
With mine it turned out that there were several transitions from sequences within sequences that were messing it up as my fcp file was trying to call too much info when burning in DVDSP.
With "recompress" selected your final exported file will be a bit heftier but you should be able to use it in DVDSP no problem.
    Hope this helps.

  • Invalid video assset cancels build or burn

Hello, I'm making a dvd using an exported self contained QT with chapter markers set to be dvd studio pro markers. It exports fine plays fine but when i build or burn after hours and hours of encoding, i get a message saying invalid video asset, and the whole thing is cancelled. I've made plenty of dvd's before using markers and this is not a very complex one, but i'm obviously being a muppet cos its not working.
Any suggestions would prevent me gnawing off my own hand in frustration at the wasted hours and the irate phone calls from the customer wanting their finished dvd.
    Thanks very much
    Fred

    What is your work flow?
You should have first, taken the QT file and encoded it using Compressor, (as a stand alone app.)
The resulting files from this would be named, filename.m2v and filename.aif or AC3.
Those files then should have been imported into DVD SP. Any other video or audio assets should also have taken the same work path as your QT file.
Any menu or slide assets should have been scaled, (in Photoshop) to 720x480 at 72dpi, (don't let DVD SP do the scaling) saved as a .psd or .tif format, then imported into DVD SP.
Then author your project, build and format, (burn) the DVD.

  • Aspect ratio for video assets

do all video assets need to maintain an aspect ratio of 3:2? for example, i have a QT movie (to be used as a menu header) that i animated in after effects that is 300x40. when i import this into DSP, the inspector says that it is 720x480 and the result is a distorted video. I have manipulated my AE file to maintain a 3:2 ratio (360x240) and that looks fine in DSP. However, the inspector still says that the video asset is 720x480. and, when i place it in a menu, i am prohibited from placing it exactly where i would like for it to be (due to the size of the drop zone). any thoughts or ideas?
    thanks in advance

yes, 4:3. sorry, i'm used to AE referring to a 720x480 as 3:2. it considers a 720x540 (sq pixels) as 4:3. old habit i guess.
when i change the drop zone's size by dragging the handles, it works fine unless i try to alter the width of the drop zone. for some reason, when i do that, it scales down the video asset.
i've also noticed that if i set up a livetype file in a nonstandard 4:3 size (like 300x40), DSP does the same thing to it as it did to the QT that was rendered in AE. it distorts it by stretching it vertically, causing it to look horrible in a drop zone that is the same size as the livetype file. i'm just trying to find easy and efficient ways to animate button text and menu headers without having to compose the enitre menu in AE. but i believe that you are right, i may be better off just doing it that way.
    thanks for the advice,
    J

  • Video asset in button cropped - Unable to match aspect ratios

I am using the Apple "Light Frame" button and linking an mpeg2 video asset to that button to look like active, mini 16 X 9 plasma televisions for my scene selection menu. Unfortunately it insists on cropping out much of my mp2 video image. Following the instruction in DVDSP4 manual on pages 275-76 only moves my image L to R and never shows me the whole image. The same seems to be the case using the "Light Frame" drop zone template. Am I completely going about it using the wrong method? How can I successfully match the aspect ratio of both the button's area and the associated asset?
Thank you for helping this poor forum newbie!
    Dual 2.5 PowerPC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   2.5 GB SDRAM

I have found that if I drag & drop a video asset to the menu and select "Create button and track" then I can correctly resize the thumbnail video to fit inside the frame of the button template while keeping the 16X9 aspect ratio. That works out very well except for the desired animated effect of the "Light Frame" television turning on and off becomes covered. Does anyone know of a better solution for creating a television thumbnail menu effect?
I'm new to this and would appreciate any help available. I've searched the forums over and found no posting on this.

  • Incomplete importing of video asset

    hi
i'm trying to create a dvd project of a 23' film and only a fraction of the video asset gets imported. the sound is all in, but of the 23 mins of video, it only imports 2'. why?
    thank you, veronica

    hi thanks,
i'm now trying all sorts. with a quicktime file created directly from quicktime exports on fcp or an mpeg 2 exported with quicktime conversion the same thing happened. i import the QT/Mpeg file onto the DSP project and the sound comes through, but the video file imports only 2 minutes. cant figure it out.
when i open the QT file it IS all there!

  • Video asset Motion in chapter menus

I am nearly finished with a large project for a client, where the main movie length is about 90 minutes. I just noticed when going through to check all my menus before burning that it appears that at about the 45 minute mark the video assets assigned to each chapter have all become frozen at a certain point and are no longer in motion.
I'm glad I was able to identify the issue and am hoping there is some easy way to resolve this, so that the motion continues in all the little chapter menus till the end of the film. There are about 24 chapters in all, and the motion stops about half way through these.
Thanks in advance for your help!

I also just wanted to follow up and add that I think the issue is even weirder. I am going through in DVDSP and watching the full length cut from the point at which the chapter menu is giving me trouble and noticing that when I pause it, a freeze frame appears with an image that is not at that moment of the menu, but at an earlier point.
What is going on???? Please help!!!!

  • Placing button on a video asset rather than menu asset?

Is it possible in iDVD to place a button on a video asset rather than a menu asset?
Is it possible to have "invisible" buttons (ie a button with no associated subpicture).
I'd like to be able to have an invisible button present during a chapter on a DVD so that if you push the "enter" button on your DVD remote, it jumps to a hidden track.
If it can't be done directly, is there a work-around using myDVDedit to post-edit the encoded DVD?
    Thanks.

Nice solution! I'll do that... note the highlight colour will also need to be the same as the background colour to make it invisible in both selected and unselected states.
Now, as to "a button with no associated subpicture" - a subpicture is the onscreen bitmaps that the DVD player keys into the video to illustrate a button in its unselected and selected states. Subpictures are created by the DVD authoring program when the buttons are placed and defined.
A button with no subpicture is an invisible button, ie there is no onscreen feedback as to whether the button is selected or not, or even whether it exists. It is simply a rectangular screen area of some defined size that has DVD navigation commands attached to it. It will still act like any other button if you "select" it by using arrow navigation keys then press "Enter", and it will take you to whatever you've linked.
One of the best examples I've seen is in the recent R.E.M. DVD collection of their early IRS clips. The clip for "Radio Free Europe" is just one big invisible button that fills the whole frame for the entire clip. If you press "Enter" while it is playing, you jump to the original version of that video, stored as a Menu object (and not a Title or Chapter, hence not accessible using the DVD player's Disc Navigation menu).
    Neat.

  • How to display a single video asset across 3 adjacent panels.

    Hi,
How do you apply a single video asset across a number of panels side by side to each other. One of the panels is a drop zone and the others are clones of the drop zone. The clone panels are adjacent to the drop zone and placed at an angle so the video appears across three different surfaces. It's a really cool effect but I can't figure out how to achieve it. Any help appreciated.
    Dave

I can only guess you're creating the panels by masking the clone layers?
So... create 3 clone layers of the original, and mask each as appropriate to the panel's position?

  • Unsupported File Type: Invalid Video

I'm creating a video project using iMovie. I'm now working on the DVD in iDVD and customizing my menus. I'm trying to drag pictures into the drop zone but I keep getting the message "Unsupported File Type: Invalid Video". Well first of all, its not even a video I'm trying to drag in, just regular JPEG photos. Second, I can usually drag pictures onto the main menu screen but when I get to the scene selections, that's when I start running into my problem. Has this happened to anyone else?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

No, I've tried that. See, I can import like, the first 6 photos, after that I start getting the message. I even try importing the photos that I've already imported again and those won't even import.
Awhile ago while I had those six pictures imported, I saved the project, closed it and reopened it. The pictures werent there.
I've been trying any photo now that I have on my computer and nothing will import.

  • How do you apply a Motion Video Asset as a button on a layered Menu?

    Hi Guys,
I am trying to create a layered menu with 2 x Motion Video Asset's as buttons (toggling between the two buttons for selection & activation).
When I add a menu - The motion video asset is perfectly displayed as a button in the menu screen. But when I add a Layered Menu and drag my motion video asset across, it does not show the video...it shows an empty square/button in the menu screen. When the drop-down menu pops up when dragging the video asset across, I choose 'create button & track' as when I choose the other option, the 'templates' window pops up and I have my own layered menu created by Photoshop, so I don't want to use the templates. Please help?? Thank you. Anthony

  • Loop a video asset in Encore CS5

I need to be able to add over 100 short video assets to a project and have each video play continuously until the next button it hit on a remote which will advance to the next video in the list. Is this possible? I need each video to loop as it will play at an event and we don't know how long the video will need to play until we need to advance to the next section/video. Last time I had to do this I just repeated the video clip for a really long time so that we would be ensured that it would not advance to the next video, But I feel sure there is a better way to do this.

What you need is scripting, which Encore does not provide.
I would play with putting each video on its own timeline. Use multiple menus to branch. Use 4:3 menus even if the videos are 16:9, so you can get more buttons on a screen. You cou ld try making them black so they might not jar with the different aspect ratio of the videos. Use very short transitions and/or motion on the menus to make the menu appearance less disruptive. (Trade off with number of menus re the 1 gig limit for menus.)
For many of the videos, you are now 2 clicks away: click one "menu" (the menu option that will take you to the previous menu), then use the remotge control numbers to select the next track.
When submenu 1 is exhausted, you go back to main menu (title menu), and select submenu 2.
Yes, the operator must know what they are doing.

  • CS4 Encore – freezes when HD video asset is added

Encore CS4 locks up when I try to add a HD video asset(created in Premiere Pro CS4). I can add Standard Video and Encore does not freeze. I tried of three computer freezes on Windows 7 but works on old XP.   I have uninstalled and reinstalled and update CS4. I have only had Encore running.  ( the HD video is a short 25 second test HD video)

  • Encore web DVD "hidden video assets" ?

is it possibe to create a  encore web DVD with "hidden video assets" ? (like they used to using Director?)
so the end user would just insert the dvd rom, and lauch an html file but would not see the video assets ?

it would be to prevent copying of individual f4v files. it used to be common in director hiding quicktime files.
i guess the better way now would be to host the flash/videos on a protected webpage and sell timed access. (unfortunalty, that comes with a learning curve to put into effect.)
but the origianl thought was to offer the product as DVD or On Demand Streaming or Digital Download -  and if a user chooses Digital Download i have to have a delivery format

  • What format can my video assets be?

What format can my video assets be?
I thought they had to be mpg2.
Can they be something else too?
    -Thanks

They can be in any major quicktime file format when you are authoring, but DVDSP will eventually encode them to MPEG2 when you build your project.
This means that your assets may lose quality if you start with a compressed source. If you start with MPEG2 they don't get re-encoded, and you maintain the quality.
The best advice is to encode your footage to MPEG2 before you bring it in to DVDSP...
