Invert image in InDesign CS6

How can I invert (make a negative image) a Tiff (or JPG) image within Indesign CS6?
This can be done in Photoshop, but I don't want to keep swapping applications or have to make and save a new (negative) image in Photoshop and then import into Indesign.
This was so easy in Quark years ago!
Thanks!

Set the fill color of the rectangle holding your image to Black, and the fill color of the image itself (select with the white arrow) to Paper.
This will only work on grayscale and black-and-white images; then again, those are the only logical candidates to make negative.
In case "it is not working": there is a difference between a full color image containing only gray pixels and a real grayscale image. The former cannot be changed in ID, the latter can.

  • Images in InDesign CS6 tables

In InDesign CS6 is there a way to define tables cells to images instead of text (like you can in QXP). My aim is to import images into cell, but I want them to fill the full cell size.

Sorry - InDesign doesn't offer that function - you'd have to set that up manually.
Give your cell 0 padding all around.
Get the measurement for your cell
Create a graphic frame that size.
And cut and paste it into the cell.

  • Trouble with re-sizing images/textboxes InDesign CS6

Has anyone had any problems re-sizing images or text boxes in InDesign CS6?
I have been doing it for months by selecting the corners and dragging them in or out but suddenly it's stopped working. The arrow no longer changes to a double arrow when I hover over the corner and all I can see is an hourglass when I hover over any type of frame.
I can resize images only be changing their percentage in the transform objects -> scale options.
I tried re-setting my preferences and it didn't help.
Please advise me if there is something else I can do.

Tried that and it didn't help.
The only thing I can think of is that there is something wrong or slow with my remote desktop connection which is affecting functionality. No one else seems to have had this problem.
    Thanks for your effort though.

  • High quality images in indesign CS6 get pixelated

I have been using indesign CS6 for a while now. Recently, when I place some images into a document, they are pixelated. They are high quality images with a high resolution. Even when I shrink it down considerably to fit in the document, it still gets pixelated. I have "view High Quality" checked & the image prints pixelated as well. When I preview the image, it looks fine. Any ideas?

Can you post a screen shot of the image placed on ID to have an idea of what you're looking at? If possible can you share a sample image via dropbox?

  • How can I get text to appear over my placed or pasted images in InDesign CS6?

I am new to InDesign and am having a few issues. I have a basic template for a site that I have built in Illustrator. I have placed the design into an InDesign document (I have tried both copy/paste and the Place feature). When I try to use InDesign to overlay text on top of the image, it shows up fine whenever I export to an image file. However, when I export to HTML, the text gets pushed directly underneath the image in web browser (it's visible, but shows on white space below my desired template). Is there any way to fix this? I have already tried enabling "Ignore Text Wrap" on the text frame and the text itself is set to the front of the document. Thanks!

InDesign is not a web authoring tool. If you’re expecting text to simply overlay a graphic in export HTML from InDesign you’re going to be highly disappointed.
I’ll make the assumption you know nothing about web authoring tools and HTML/CSS. I suggest you look into Muse.

  • Export table as image in InDesign CS6

I want to export a table as an image to use in an epub. When I open the Export dialog box, the Selection button is grayed out and I can't export just the table. Anyone have any suggestions why the Selection button isn't available?

Solved! You have to use the selection tool to select the text frame. Then you can export the selection.

  • Is it possible to swap images in Indesign CS6?

If I had a page with several photos in different frames. Is it possible to select two different frames and swap the images around?
Also, does anyone know how to make sure all the frames in the page are identical in height and width and stroke?
    Thanks in advance,

That is very useful  for when I initially layout out a page with a layout in mind. Most of the time though, I drag all the photos onto a spread and then start aligning them, the gaps are rough but then I adjust them all manually until each gap horizontally or vertically are the same. It'd be nice if there was a script so that all the images on the page were a certain gap horizontally and vertically to each other whilst maintaining their alignment. Does that make sense?
An alternative would be if I could set up a Grid of image frames and merge some of them, preserving the gap measurements.
    Thanks Peter,

  • Dragging a single image from mac Preview to InDesign CS6 doesn't work but 2 or more images does?

I usually take anywhere form 2500 to 5000 photos in any single day's session. Because of this, I need an easy way to sort through them and grab just the one's I need to import to my InDesign "book". I have been using CS3 for years now, and what I always did was open up Preview on my Mac to browse all my days photos. Then when I found a good one, I would simply drag that single image over to my opened InDesign screen and just drop it into a page. I would then go back to Preview and continue this procedure until I had looked through all the days images. I could even drag multiple images over and once I was over InDesign I can just click each image and pop them into various pages with ease. Then I upgraded to CS6 and I've hit a kink in the works. When I drag over a single image to InDesign, before I drop it into the page my mouse pointer looks like 3 tiny paste images (the little rectangle with the folded down upper left corner). If I release my mouse to drop the image into InDesign, it just flys back to Preview and doesn't drop into InDesign. Now if I get 2 or more images from Preview, this process works just like it always did. But 1 single image... never. I've tried holding down command, shift, control, option, and combos of those buttons to see if anything changes and it never does. I always get the mouse icon with 3 little paste icons. In CS3 if I dragged a single image it would only show 1 paste icon and 3 icons if I dragged 2 or more, but not in CS6. Is there a setting I'm missing or a preference? I've tried looking through everything that I can find to no avail. There has to be a way??? Thanks!

    Use Bridge instead
    good luck

  • Photoshop images with spot channels in Indesign CS6 (layout question)

I've got an Indesign CS6 layout that will have a spot varnish when it goes to press. Right now I've got a layout with psd files that have spot channels in them that will be used for the spot varnish.
My question is, in Indesign when I'm laying this out should I have one layer with all the psd artwork (with no spot channels) and then a layer on top of that with the psd files with the psd layers turned off with the spot channel showing? I want to make this easy to print in the office so by doing it this way I could just turn the spot layer off and print.
Will this work for the printer?
layer 1 psd files with no spot channels
layer 2 psd files with photoshop layers turned off with the spot channel showing

Besides the obvious extra work of tracking 2 images, there would be potential problems if the images needs to be scaled and moved, and you would have to assume people downstream would know what's going on—should the layer be on or off?
I would double check with the current printer—they should know the only way to view a spot is via Sep or Output preview by turning CMYK off—magenta could just as easily be process as  spot.
Take a closer look at the Alias method. Here it is with your magenta defined SPOT VARNISH.
With SPOT VARNISH set as No Alias in Ink Manager and with Overprint turned on:
And with an additional spot color defined as white named CLEAR VARNISH. When you need to print in house alias SPOT VARNISH to CLEAR VARNISH and check Simulate Overprint in the Print dialog. You can get to Ink Manger via the Print>Output dialog or Swatches panel:
All you have to do is delete the CLEAR VARNISH before sending the job to the printer or exporting

  • Images in TOC in InDesign CS6

I'm hoping someone can help me. I’m using InDesign CS6 on a Windows 8.1 Pro.
I'm busy with a book and I did anchor the grouped images (grey block and a text block) so that they move with the heading. This text is in a paragraph style. When I create my toc the images also appear in the toc, but I don't want them there. Is there a way to only have the text in my toc?
Any help on these questions is appreciated.

you can do the same thing explained in the previous post by resetting the paragraph style "Heading" with a fixed return when the lesson is with one number and another para style whenthe titles when the lesson has two digits

  • Incorrect images from .indb file export to ePub in Indesign CS6

I am having problems exporting images to ePub and get a different result from the same file depending on whether I export directly from the .indd file or from the .indb file.
When I export to ePub from the individual chapter (.indd) file, everything is fine and the images appear in the correct locations where they have been anchored.
When I export via the book  (.indb) file, images are being replaced with the incorrect file in the resulting ePub.
Looking at the HTML, it seems not all images are being exported from the .indb file and when the image is missing, Indesign is substituting the next available image from the alphabetical list in the images folder so I'm getting incorrect images peppered throughout the book.
Any idea where I've gone wrong and how to fix it? I've produced several ePubs with images and never come across this before.
More details on how I've set up the files and any other info I think might be relevant below if needed.
    - I'm using Indesign CS6 (8.0.1)
    - I'm producing an 11 chapter book.
    - Each chapter is a separate .indd file for ease of editing.
    - These 11 files have been added to an .indb file for export to ePub.
    - Images are all anchored to their captions within the text.
    - On Export to ePub settings for images I have selected to insert a page break before the image and that settings apply to anchopred objects.
Nothing else is selected (I don't want to preserve appearance from layout.)
    - I'm using the Articles panel feature for order of content.
    - In the original file supplied, the images were placed as .tiff images. I saved them to jpeg and relinked them using the "relink to folder" and "match same file but this extension" options.
    - No links are flagged as missing.
    Any help much appreciated.

The solution points to how, it appears, the book panel export is functioning: each file exports a set of tags referenced to itself; file01 adds a "1" to its tags, and so forth. What I was able to do was use a file referencing all of the tags in the style suite in two ways:
    first, I exported to an epub the single file, creating a fairly clean CSS, which I then extracted and renamed;
    then, making certain that file was the "source" file in the book panel, I mapped for export all of the tags, being careful to be certain each tag/class combo was same as in renamed clean CSS;
    I synchronized the whole shebang;
I exported to epub, adding my clean CSS as an external style sheet, selecting only "include embeddable fonts".
    Bingo!

  • Imported image's position moves when updated in Indesign CS6. Why??

After modifying an imported image from illustrator, the imported image's position moves within the frame of Indesign CS6 when the link is updated.

You have not provided any relevant information, so nobody can know. you can simply have added content that expands the bounding box. Well, whatever, ask in the relevant forums and be much more specific.

  • Image Placed into InDesign CS6 appears reversed/missing

    I am using InDesign CS6 on Windows 7, 64-bit.
I have worked in InDesign off and on for the past three years and have never experienced this problem before. I have always placed images into InDesign with no problem and now I have this *one* image that won't place correctly, after placing two images in the same fashion.
The original image (JPEG) was opened in Photoshop CS6. I removed the background. Changed to CMYK. Saved as .TIFF, preserved as transparency. Then placed in InDesign.
It either shows up "Reversed", like this (no transparency when saving as a TIFF in Photoshop first):
Or just kinda outlined, like this (saving as a TIFF with a transparency in Photoshop first):
I can't see the image. It prints this way, too.
I've tried other images, they are all fine. I always place TIFFs with no problem, so I'm really stumped here.
I've tried placing as a .PSD, .EPS and .TIFF and nothing works. The two other images to the left of the weird one were placed in the same way with no problems.
    Any ideas?

OMG. THAT WORKED. I have lost two hours of my life trying to figure that out. I am forever thankful to you!!!
    Here's the settings that WORKED:

  • InDesign CS6 and OpenGL 1.5 / image frames grey out in INDML

    Hi everyone,
I work for a non-profit and I just upgraded to InDesign CS6 on my (signifcantly more robust) machine. Now thier (significantly wimpier) machine needs to be upgraded too as we send INDD files back and forth on a monthly basis, and both sides do edits to the file. The INDML file I export out of CS6 is greying out many of the linked photos (but not all) when they read the INDML file in with CS4.
    Two things:
    1) Upgrading the slower machine to CS6 is the place, but the hitch is that computer has a graphics card that is only OPENGL 1.5 capabale (GMA X3100). The CS6 specs state you need a card that supports OPENGL 2.0. We can't afford to replace the computer, so: I wouldn't dream of running photoshop CS6 on this old machine, but could InDesign CS6 function on OPENGL 1.5?
    2) Alternatively, why are only some of the pictures greying out in the INDML file? Can I fix this CS6 > CS4 issue without upgrading to CS6?
    Help! Thanks!

The system requirements for stand-alone ID don't mention OpenGL at all. You might want to download a trial and see how it runs.
.idml does not include any link previews (that's one of the main reasons the file is so compact). Images that are showing up on the other end must be accessible so that ID can regenerate the previews.

  • InDesign CS6 (v.8.0): Image Import Delay in Column View

Since I've begun using InDesign CS6 I am having a small delay issue with importing an image into an image box.
    Simple steps:
    1. Draw Image box
    2. "Command D" to import the image into the box
    3. When the finder pops up - and I am in Column View solely - there is a massive delay before any of the finder items appear.
Doing the same thing in any other Finder view does NOT cause a delay.
Is anyone else having this issue?
