Invert selection with bezier tool

I traced my subject with using the bezier tool and once I connect all of the points the person disappears. How can I tell Motion to invert the selection where the person stays but the background vanishes?

if you look at the far right buttons in the tool bar you wil see two buttons that might be greyed out. They have mask written underneath them. To create a mask for an object, you select the object you want to mask and then click on the mask tool you want. Click and hold on the first button, a selection pops up. you can choose the rectangle mask, or circular mask or the freehand mask. The second button gives you the option of a bezier tool or b-Spline. All work in slightly different ways to achieve slightly different things. After you have drawn a mask, or a shape for that matter, you can always click on the indiviual points and edit them using bezier tools.
pressing theB key gives you the shape tool.

Help; my selections with all tools are proportional

I'm using CS5. I expect the selection starting point to be the upper left corner, and as I drag the cursor the selection area enlarges. However, when I use a selection or crop tool I get a centered selection area, and as I drag the cursor the selection area gets larger on all sides. I know I must have selected a special setting or something but I cant find where to turn it off. PLease any advice would be welcome.

Illustrator CS5.5 type not editable, not selectable with type tool

Hi folks, Working on a poster in Illustrator. Have added area type, using the type tool. Now I'd like to increase the size of one line. I can't select or edit any of the type with the type tool. I moved the type to a new layer, saved, closed Illustrator, restarted my Mac (OS X 10.7.4). Looked in preferences, in case there's an issue there. No luck.
By the way, I also don't see handles when in the selection tool any more. Don't know if that's related.

[bug report] Making selection with pen tool causes 'jittery' edge

When I use the pen tool to create a path, and then make a selection from it and select inverse and delete the background, the result is a very un-even edge not the clean resullt you would expect, however if I make a mask from the same selection it looks fine.
Steps to recreate
1. Draw a simple path with the pen tool
2. Make a selection from the path, with 0 feather and anti alias turned on
3. Inverse selection (optional, same thing happens if you don't inverse)
4. Delete the rest of the image
5. The edge of the image now has an uneven, jittery edge
compared to mask
5. Undo the delete
6. Go to Channel Pallette, and make a mask from the selection
7. Edge of the mask should be clean like you would expect
You can exaggerate the jittery effect by adding feather the the path selection

Ok please Delete this I've sorted it. The blending mode had jumped to disolve.... but I 100% didn't change it to this myself, I wasn't even in the layer pallette at the time

Keeping brush selected with pen tool cs4

I like to use the pen tool with a selected brush, in previous versions was able to select a brush and
it would remain selected, but I can't find the a preference for that in cs4. any suggestions ?

In photoshop, you can create a path with the pen tool and then make that path a selection as if you'd used the lasso tool. How do you turn a pen path into a lasso selection in Flash (CS4)?

Essentially, any path that you drawn in Flash, that you want to use to make a sub-selection of your artwork, has to be pasted onto your artwork layer and the "outside" portion deleted.
Let's say you imported JPG into Flash of a house, and you wanted to remove the background. First, break it apart so that it's a fill. Then, it can help to draw your manually-drawn pen selection on a new layer above. Once you have traced the house/drawn your selection (making sure it's a closed selection) , copy the lines and paste that onto your layer of artwork. Click outside of the selection and delete the edges.
One could also decide to fill the drawn selection lines, and use that as a mask for the artwork.
Flash has fewer of the drawing tools than Photoshop or Illustrator. But even if this doesn't answer your question, there is a way to do what you want.

How can I delete the area which I have selected with Pen Tool?

Bezier Tool Problems

I'm having some trouble getting my bezier mask tool to work correctly. At one time the tool worked as follows: Say I had an image of a dog walking on the grass. If I wanted to isolate the dog by deleting the grassy background I would select the bezier tool, click on a point on the perimeter of the dog image and add successive points along the dog and finally connecting the dots. Each time I created a dot I would move the mouse quickly to create "handles" as well. What used to happen is the dots would appear around the dog with handles, then when I clicked on the first dot, all the dots would be connected and a "smooth" line would form around the image. Then I could use the handles to produce "soft" curves around the image, so a nice cutout of the dog would result.
If I go into the View tab > Overlays........Lines is checked. When I follow the steps mentioned above, "crazy" lines appear around the image and it is near impossible to create smooth curves around an object by grabbing the handles. I've tried to modify the options in the Overlays section of the View tab with no success.
I'm no expert with the bezier tool but something seems to be wrong. If my setting are off, I would like to restore the factor settings, which I'm assuming where in place when things were working properly.
If someone can help me I'd really appreciate it.

zoom00, thanks for the reply.......however, I still have a major problem.
If I created a box, and used the bezier tool to place a point and handles at the four corners of the box, I would expect to see four straight lines between the points. Instead (and this is with the "lines" checked in the view menu) the lines are not straight, or gently curving, they are serpentine in shape. Because the lines are so "twisty" it makes it very hard to use the handles to make soft curves around an object. When applying the tool to curved objects the "twisty" effect is even more pronounced.
When you create the handles for each of the bezier dots, does the act of making the handles curve the line between the two dots radically?
Perhaps I just don't know the proper way of using the tool. I am still quite new to Motion, but I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the problem, without success.
If you or anyone else can think of some solution to this problem, please let me know!

Problem with lasso tool in PSE10!!

Will start using lasso tool and then the picture will flicker and the lassoo tool will not function to continue with the selection. Has worked ok in the past but not now. Have tried reset tool but did"t work out problem. Why the flicker of the picture as this throughs the alignment of the lassoo off and you cannot continue with the outline. Very frustrating!!

99jon sorry to report that I went into my lassoo tool this morning and I am still having a problem with it. I tried hitting the info on the picture until not responding appears on upper left of windows and went ahead and began my selection with the tool and bam the screen flickered and ruined the alignment of the lassoo and rendered it non functional. would it be better if I tried a re-inastll of pse 10? The above technique did work late yesterday,but not now. Thanks!!

I just downlouded the latest version of the Muse CC and it doesn't work well, it freezes all the time, in particular with the tools. Example the selection tool doesen't wor at all.

I restarted the computer, but the same issue happens again. When I move my mouse over some object or tool, it doesn’t come active at all (only some of the tools works) When I try to change “site properties”, I can’t choose tablet or phone mode or even I can’t select the checkboxes, only thing what I can do is change the numbers (high and width) . After all the main problem is that I can’t select some of the items or functions by mouse, but only by the keyboard.

Zooming whenever I double-click on any margin of pages with Hand Tool or Selection Tool selected

I have used Acrobat and recently upgraded it to Acrobat XI in order to use it with my tablet PC.
But whenever I double-click with my digitizer pen, with Hand tool or Selection Tool selected, on any margin of pages, it zooms in. i.e. it automatically magnifies itself as if I did the same thing with magnifying tool. This happens even when I try to double-click on the textboxes to edit it!
I don't want to zoom it all the time!!!

Try switching off this setting: Edit - Preferences - General - Make hand
tool use mouse-wheel zooming.

I had the problem where I could not do this earlier and found the solution on this forum.
However I still do not understand the reason for this.

If you have the red and blue rectangle selected and the Fill square selected in the tool panel, as at bottom left, then hold the shift key down and click with the eyedropper on the green stroke in the upper rectangle, then the red fill will turn green but the stroke stays blue. If you select Stroke, as at bottom right, then shift-click with the eyedropper on the green stroke, the blue stroke will turn green but the fill stays red. With Fill selected and shift-click on the yellow fill, the red fill turns yellow; with Stroke selected the blue stroke turns yellow. If you do not depress the shift key, the red and blue rectangle will become yellow and green.
It's complicated to explain, but I think that if you try it step by step it will make sense to you.

I found a YouTube clip explaining how to blur the background with free draw bezier tool and it also said to invert the mask, but it still does not track forward. I really hope there is a solution.

Edit Audio with pencil tool not working LP8

I am using Logic Pro 8.0.2. I am trying to edit an audio track in the "sample editor" window to remove a couple of clicks.
-I am highlighting an audio track, and then opening the sample editor
-When I get to the spot that I want to edit - I am dragging the pointer tool over that area to select it
- I am selecting the pencil tool in the sample editor window. When I go over the area that I want to work on and click the mouse, the magnifier turns on instead

I'm getting the sync pending dull green on node enable tracks but NO actual node precessing at all
I've tried every conceivable comdination of plugins on trax Waves Non waves a mixture but still NO offload at all
Any ideas??

Photoshop Elements 11 Selection and brush tool not working right

I have this problem where I select parts of an image I am trying to draw, and I want to fill the selected regions of the image with color but whenever I use the brush or the paint bucket tool to fill it, little tiny regions outside of the selection are also painted, now I am not sure if I don't have the settings right, or if the software is broken. I have attached two screenshots that show the problem, please someone explain to me how I can fix this.

Also when I am trying to attach images from my computer to a discussion here in the adobe forums I can't because the "insert image" remains greyed out even though I have selected the image file I would like to attach.

It appears that the selection is not accurate, i.e. the "marching ants" extend beyond the object. If you are using the selection brush for this purpose, on the tool's option bar, you will see icons via which you can add to, or subtract from, the selection.
Once you have created the selection with precision, go to Edit menu>fill selection. In this dialog there are several options which are self explanatory.
You can also place the selection on its own layer via CTRL+J, then use the eraser tool to touch up. I do this frequently. It helps to place a layer with contrasting color below the selection layer temporarily to facilitate visualization. Be sure to delete this layer when you are done.
To post a picture file, save it to disk, then click on the camera icon in the reply box here, click browse, and point to where the file is on disk, then insert.
