Inverted, "negative" JPG images?

I'm having a strange problem with certain JPG images when I import them into Keynote.
Most work fine when dragged into Keynote, but a few (those coming from a co-worker, usually exported from Photoshop) turn into "negative" reverse-color images when dragged into a presentation.
The strangest part is, those very same images display fine on their own in Preview or GraphicConverter or Photoshop or Mail or iPhoto or anything else. It's only when dragged into Keynote that they don't work. If I open them in Preview and save them as a TIFF, then they work fine.
Any thoughts?

most of the time a jpeg will work fine if you drag it from the desktop to KN directly. But, there are a number of file formts that keynote will not recognize with a "direct" drag and drop. It is best to drag the image from the desktop into iphoto, then use the "media" button to drag them from iphoto onto KN. This way, any image that is dragged into KN is recognized

  • IPad wont show .jpg images correctly

    My new iPad wont show .jpg images correctly. They all get a yellow/blue filter almost like a negative photo. This is in Safari, Maps,Youtube and every App using .jpg images. Gifs, and png, viewing video etc is fine. Also the home screen background/wallpaper gets this problem.
    BUT saved .jpgs from Safari strangely enough look fine in Photos. (Thumbnails stil look bad though.)
    I thought it had to be a software issue, but reseting my device with newest OS (3.2) is not helping.
    Any others with the same problem?

    Thanks for your reply. I have not created any JPGs, or transfered them to the iPad. I just surf with Safari and all .jpg's are getting this strange colors. When starting Maps the satellite mode gets wrong colors. The background on the home screen are the ones that came with the iPad. Strange thing is that when restoring it with software reset, the background is ok. When choosing a new (even choosing the same one) they get wrong colors when going to the home screen. (They all look good when choosing)
    It looks like the iPad is not doing the final steps on rendering the images. (And also have a short blink when being displayed) However as I said, all images look good when viewing fullscreen in the Photos App. Even the ones saved from Safari which looked bad in Safari.

  • CS6 / Mac : I want to placate hand writen words on a jpg image.

    CS6 / Mac : I want to placate hand writen words on a jpg image. The words are to be extracted from a letter I photographed on jpg. I guessed that was asked before, if anyone can redirect me to an appropriate tuto I didn't find yet. Thx.

    Plonk, what I gave you was a very quick and easy way to achieve your goal, but it was, perhaps, simplistic.  But without seeing the underlying image, or the scanned letter.  My method relied on the text being black, and the paper it was written on being as near white as possible.  It also need the underlying image to have no large areas of very dark tones, or obviously the black text will not show against it.
    So to make it a decent test, I found this crumpled letter with a very off white background:
    Adding a Levels Adjustment layer, and setting it thus:
    I can move all those off white tones (as indicated by the right side of the histogram) to full white, like this
    Notice the red arrow on the Levels Properties.  Clicking on that icon clips it to the letter layer beneath it, so that it _only_ operates on that layer and no others.  This is important. Incidentally, you should also set the levels layer's Blend mode to Luminosity - this prevents colour artifacts creeping in.
    Placing the scanned letter layer, with its clipped Levels adjustment layer, we get the following.  On the left the Letter layer Blend mode is set to Multiply.  You could also use Darken (I bet you can workout why that would work) but Multiply gives a more solid black.  The second example has the Blend mode set to Divide.  This is a useful trick because it still gives contrast over dark tones, but the text would start to get thin where it overlays very light tones.  The third example is the original letter with no Levels layer.
    If you work in layout, you'll know that editors chose their images with overlaid type in mind.  It would be fairly trivial to make the type black over light tones and white over dark tones by using layer masks with two type layers.  You select either the dark or light area, and add a layer mask to the appropriate type layer.  Then copy the mask to the other type layer and invert it.  That ensures a perfect transition from one to the other.

  • How can I get a tab to open in an oversize jpg image in its original size with scroll bars when I click on a link?

    I have a small program for storing my genealogy names and jpg images of the census pages where each name is found. The images have a thumbnail link that opens in a new tab to view the actual oversized census page. In the new tab the census page is small and not readable. How do I get the jpg image to appear in its original size with schroll bars so I can read the census in the firefox browser without using the zoom feature. It takes several clicks on the zoom to get the image to a readable size and that is time consuming, especially when I have several images opened.

    That works, thank you!
    Could I suggest that this feature (the ability to turn off or turn on the auto-resize of images) be part of the Options tab on Firefox? I think it's a setting that some users might want to change fairly often--even toggle back and forth on. It's a little annoying to have to go into about:config every time to do this.

  • Quality not the same after exporting movie made up of jpg images

    Basically I made an animation sequence on Autodesk Maya and rendered the sequence as 2000 jpeg images each representing 1 frame, put it in one folder and on Adobe Premiere imported and dragged the folder into the timeline to make a moving image so in other words my video is made up of hundreds of jpg images.
    Now on the editor it all looks HD and fine but when I export it via file > export > media, in order to match the sequence to the screen I must click on 'match sequence settings' which will snap the whole movie into the window rather than have it widescreen and once I do this I can't modify anything else such as codec, etc (codec is automatically set as MPEG -Frame and the output automatically is mpeg), is this normal? Why is it mpeg ajnd not avi...
    So once I export the video with these settings (image uploaded) the quality is ok but not as good as what I see in the Premeire editor, why? What can I do to improve the quality?
    On the other hand if I don't click on match to sequence settings and personally customise the paramaters such as avi, I use max settings for many things but after exporting my picture quality actually goes worse compared tomatch to sequence settings? (which has less parameters)
    Why is this happening, all my jpeg images are high quality 720p and I should just be able to export it as normal...
    I am trying to make a cut-scene to get into Unity so the codec is important as well.
    How can I make my video best quality as possible being mpeg or avi? What settings do I need to play with?

    Maybe I misunderstood, but did you actually put 2000 still images on the timeline? If so, there is another way. Go to Import and find your folder, and select only the first still in your sequence, then check the box at the bottom of the import windows that says "Numbered Sequence" or something like that. This will import the stills as a "video" clip.
    Regarding Export, don't check Frame Blending or Max Render, the first being for a change of frame rate and the latter being useful for a downscale of the frame size.You are doing neither.
    Also, never use "Match Sequence Settings". Leave that unchecked, and then choose whatever format YOU want to use for the export, whether .avi or H.264 or whatever.

  • How to create multi-level style pulling in a .jpg image as a bullet?

    From within RoboHelp 8 HTML, when creating/editing a 3-tier multi-level style, I want to use a .jpg image for the bullet(s).  I can not find a way to point to the image while in Edit mode.  My only choices are predefined bullets for the List Style.
    When searching for an answer within the forum, I noticed mention of a Baggage folder in RoboHelp.  I do not have a Baggage folder.  I do have links to websites accessible from within the web-based Help file I've created beneath the URLs folder in the Project Manager.
    Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Hi there
    I never really played much with adding images to the oddly formatted Multi-list styles.
    The Project Manager has two views. Sounds like you are using the new "global" view. In that view you don't see a special area labeled Baggage Files. In this view the files are simply listed among the other content. If you change the view to Classic (I think it's the first icon on the left of the pod toolbar) you will then see the Baggage Files folder.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Why can't I open a .jpg image

    I recently copied some images on a CD. I can open half of them and the other half, I get the following message.
    Item "DSC.0647.JPG" is used by Mac OSX and cannot be opened.
    What the heck does that mean? I have tried Preview, Photoshop, PhotoElements, everything to try to open these images and to no avail. There is no difference in the ones I can open, all are .jpg images, and all were copied the same way at the same time. I tried to open them before I upgraded to 10.4.5, and tried after, also tried on my laptop - won't open.....
    Does anyone have any suggestions....I need these images!!!!!
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   1 GB Dual

    Is your laptop also a Mac? If not what error mesage
    do you get when trying to open on that machine. If
    it is a Mac, copy the image to something like a USB
    flash drive and try to open on a Windows PC. The
    point is to see if the problem is with the image file
    itself or your Mac.
    Other things to try are as follow:
    1) rename the image. Click on the file name to
    highlight, hit enter and type a new name. If you are
    going to open on a Windows PC you must add the.jpg
    after the name.
    2) Create a new user on your machine and try to open
    the image when logged in as the New User.
    3) Run Check and Fix Permissions from the Disk
    Utiliy.
    Report back here on what you discover and perhaps
    someone will recognise the problem.

    Alan, thank you for your suggestions:
    My laptop is also a MAC and I get the same message. I've actually already tried the other options you mentioned, but to no avail. What I discovered that I did not see at first is that when the images were copied, they somehow were copied and show up as a 2KB file. I know that is not right, since the other images show up as regular large files 1.5 mb etc.
    I copied all the files at the same time, but I did not take the images all on the same day. I cannot imagine how this happened, unless through some means, which I have no clue, my camera settings got messed up somehow and perhaps was set on email size images, but I'd still be able to see and open them. However, I also tried to email the images to myself or someone else and still can't read them. Unless someone has an answer as to how that might have happened, then I have to assume there is nothing I can do to get them restored.
    I believe these images are a loss after seeing the size they copied, and think I've lost those items which is a shame, since you can never duplicate a picture taken at a specific time.....

  • Creating a .jpg image from with in the J2ME app

    Hi,
    I want to send a document to the printer over bluetooth to print.
    For that I searched on net, but couldn't find any APIs supported by J2ME to print it. I also found a link http://www.hcilab.org/documents/tutorials/Brother/ where I found that I can send the data by creating an image and then writing data (text or image ) in to it, and then sending that image to print.
    Image img = Image.createImage(816, 40);
    Graphics g = img.getGraphics();
    g.setColor(0, 0, 0);
    g.setFont(Font.getFont(Font.FACE_PROPORTIONAL, Font.STYLE_BOLD,Font.SIZE_LARGE));
    g.drawString("Printing test from "
                             + System.getProperty("microedition.platform") + " on "
                             + new Date(), 10, 10, 0);
    driver.print(img, btAddr);This code is working fine on this printer.
    I am using HP 460cb printer, and I tried the same thing, but am not getting any results. Can any one of you tell me what mistake am I making.
                    Image blankImage = Image.createImage(SpotBilling.MAX_IMG_WIDTH, SpotBilling.MAX_IMG_HEIGHT);
                    Graphics g = blankImage.getGraphics();
                    g.setColor(0,0,0);
                    g.setFont(Font.getFont(Font.FACE_PROPORTIONAL, Font.STYLE_PLAIN, Font.SIZE_SMALL));
                    g.drawString("Printing test on Wednesday - 18th Jan, 2006", 10, 50, Graphics.TOP|Graphics.LEFT);
                    g.drawImage(imgTest, 60, 150, Graphics.HCENTER | Graphics.VCENTER);
                    int width = blankImage.getWidth();
                    int height = blankImage.getHeight();
                    int y = 0;
                    os.write(CMD_UNIVERSAL_EXIT);
                    for(int i = 1; i<=height; i++){
                             blankImage.getRGB(temp, 0, width, 0, y, width, 1);
                             byte[] pixels = new byte[width];
                             for (int x = 0; x < temp.length; x++) {
                                  pixels[x] = (byte) ((((temp[x] & 0x00FF0000) >> 16)
                                       + ((temp[x] & 0x0000FF00) >> 8) + (temp[x] & 0x000000FF)) / 3);
                             // Transfer Raster Graphics
                             os.write(TRANSFER_RASTER_DATA);
                             byte[] len = numToDecimal(pixels.length);
                             os.write(len);
                             os.write(DATA);
                             os.write(pixels);
                             y++;
                        }I have another query, if I can not do this. Is there any way I can create a .jpg image from with in the J2ME application.
    I have some text and an image that I get by invoking camera from the code and then capturing a picture. I need to combine them both, and then send it to the printer.
    If there is any way, I can convert this blankImage mentioned above (containing both text and Image), please provide me the solution.
    Any document or any source code is appreciated.
    regards,
    Ashish

    I have succeeded in creating a mutable image that contains text and image (.png), through
                         Image img;
                         img = Image.createImage(50, 60);
         protected void paint(Graphics g){
              g.drawImage(img, getWidth()/2, getHeight()/2, Graphics.HCENTER | Graphics.VCENTER);
              Graphics graph = img.getGraphics();
              graph.setColor(0, 0, 0);
              graph.setFont(Font.getFont(Font.FACE_PROPORTIONAL, Font.STYLE_BOLD,
                             Font.SIZE_LARGE));
              graph.drawString("Printing test from "
                                       + System.getProperty("microedition.platform") + " on ", 10, 10, 0);
              graph.drawImage(image, img.getWidth()/2, img.getHeight()/2,Graphics.HCENTER|Graphics.VCENTER);
              graph.fillArc(0,0,10,10,0, 360);
         }Now I want to create a .jpg image of this img image(Mutable image).
    What I am doing is that,
    1. I am converting this image in to int array, using getRGB() method.
    2. Then I am converting int array in to byte array.
    3. And then I am opening a file(extension is .jpg)
    4. Then I am sending this byte array in to the file which is .jpg
    The .jpg file is getting created, but the data in it is very absurd, like yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
    Please help me in this matter.

    Ashish

  • Help - problem with save for web when jpg image is placed in file

    I have a jpg image that I placed in my Illustrator 5 file to use as a backdrop and then created several vector buttons on top.  When I attempt to create an arboard around a single button and then save for web, it ignores the artboard dimensions and shows the entire jpg dimensions.  If I create the same file without the jpg backdrop image, I am able to use the artboards to save just a single button.  Any time I place a jpg image in my Illustrator file and attempt to use the artboards, the artboards are ignored and the entire area of the jpg is saved.  I am able to use the slice tool to do the saving, but I prefer to use the artboards.  Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the artboards to work when a jpg is placed in the file?  Thanks.

    THANK YOU!!!
    It says, "Clip to artboard".  I wasn't sure what clip meant, but that was it!  Thank you.

  • JPG images not displayed correctly in Bridge and Photoshop (Mac OS)

    (Note: I have copied the content of this query from the Creative Suites forum where I originally opened it.)
    I am using CS4 under OSX 10.4.11 on a PowerMac G5 Quad with 23" Apple cinema display. Images which have been captured as JPG are displayed fine by Preview, but when opened in Bridge, Camera Raw or Photoshop. the colours are all "washed out". The attached screen capture should give an idea of the difference, with the upper being Camera Raw (image settings) and the lower being Preview. My monitor has been calibrated and I'm using sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour space in Camera Raw and Photoshop. The colours displayed by Preview are pretty close to "real life". I find it virtually impossible to adjust the colours in Photoshop to get back to anything similar.
    After opening the image in Photoshop without adjustment, and Save As JPEG with embedded color profile, Preview displays the new image the same as Photoshop. Save As JPEG without embedded color profile, and Preview displays this copy just like the original. It seems that Photoshop is making different (incorrect) assumptions about what color space to use when there is no embedded color profile. Shouldn't it assume sRGB like virtually everything else (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRGB)? Or is its interpretation of sRGB incorrect? How can I fix this?

    That would be yours truly, and I hasten to reply because I may have some insights that can help you too.
    Just get it it out of the way, here's my setup:
    Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4"); VersionCue disabled and uninstalled.—2.5 GHz Power Mac (PPC) G5-Quad; 16GB RAM; mutant, flashed 550MHz nVidia GeForce 7800GTX 1,700MHz 512MB VRAM; ATTO ExpressPCI UL5D LP SCSI card; Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11 and Leopard 10.5.8 boot drives; Spotblight, Dashboard and Time Machine permanently disabled; dual 22" CRT monitors; USB wireless 'n' available but connected to the Internet via wired Ethernet; 1 FW flatbed scanner; 2 SCSI scanners (one tabloid-size transparency scanner and a film scanner); various internal & external HDs; FW Epson 2200 and Ethernet Samsung ML-2850ND printers; 2 X Back-UPS RS 1500 XS units.
    I can unambiguously and in good faith represent to you that my color management, from capture to print, is as spot-on as anyone with any kind of setup can hope to achieve.  Unequivocally and without qualifications.
    Now, first things first:  Forget about trying to synchronize color management across the point applications lumped together only by Adobe marketing fiat into a variety of meaningless "creative suites".  Concentrate on Photoshop.  Do not try to use Bridge to synchronize anything.
    The "suites" are a totally artificial construct created by Adobe bean counters and marketing types.  The point applications (i.e. the individual programs clumsily bundled together, e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) are developed independently by separate engineering teams that are not only not in the same building, but in different cities, different states of the American Union, and even in different countries.  They have very little communication among them, if any, as evidenced by repeated posts in these forums by Photoshop engineering staff urging us, the end users, to let the other teams know in their own forums that a given problem exists and is actually affecting our work.
    Enough said about the cause of the problem.  The end result is that Color Management is at very, very different levels of progress and sophistication in each individual point application, with only Photoshop fully entitled to be considered state of the art.
    Secondly, a disclaimer:  I have been hanging on to my CRT monitors and take care of them as Jascha Heifetz used to take care of his Stradivarius.  I don't know what I will do if I manage to outlive the usefulness and accuracy of my CRTs (unlikely at this point).  I have despaired in futile efforts to bring the luminosity of any LCD monitor down to where I would feel comfortable calibrating and profiling it.  I believe my monitors are the foundation of my color management efforts.
    Especially if you have one of the extreme wide-gamut LCD or LED monitors, you'll face an uphill battle.
    Be careful to avoid any version 4 icc profiles, whether canned or generated by your calibration software.  Stick to version2 icc profiles.  Ask the manufacturer of your calibration software/hardware if in doubt.
    Here are some not-too-recent, but thoroughly representative screen shots of the calibration results I obtain with my monitors, which I calibrate and profile often and regularly (I validate the calibration at least several times per month).
    In a nutshell, my color management practices and settings mirror those described by Bruce Fraser, Jeff Schewe, Andrew Rodney and Gary Ballard's site.  I have learned from all of them.
    My working color space is ProPhoto RGB.  I choose to work with PSD and PSB files.  As a long-time, rabid JPEG hater, I only rarely deal with JPEGs, using them sporadically to illustrate a point in this forum or elsewhere in the web.  My main output consists of prints.
    I only deal with tagged image files (files with an embedded color profile) and often recommend beating up with a baseball bat any moron that hands you an untagged file—figuratively of course, but I find the expression gets my point across unambiguously.
    Following is a screen shot of some of my pertinent settings:
    Note that I have never bought into the "suite" concept myself.  I do have and routinely use Adobe Illustrator 10.x, InDesign 2.x and Acrobat Professional 8.x, but they are all older, independent versions of each point application, licensed at different times.
    Be further advised, that the answer to many problems offered by Adobe engineers often is not to install VersionCue, or uninstall it, or at least disable it.
    Also, as outlined at the beginning of this post, concentrate on Photoshop, not on synchronizing applications that can't really communicate with each other, despite the claims of Adobe marketing hacks to the contrary.
    One big caveat, do not fall into this trap:

    You either want to learn, or you don't.  You either want to solve your problems, or you don't.
    When you start arguing instead of studying, questioning advice instead of following it and detecting where you went wrong, you're on the right track to nowhere.  That attitude will get you there fast.  Remember you are the one with the problem, and only you can acquire the discipline to learn how to solve it.
    Go ahead and ask me anything that is not clear, just don't argue with me please, and don't tell me why you think Fraser, Rodney, Ballard and I are wrong.  You see, I am not experiencing any problem that needs fixing.  I have an interest in helping you, but not in hearing about your speculations, theories or conclusions.
    Good luck.

  • In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not avail"

    In bridge i select a jpg image with cntrl r to open in camera raw but get "camera raw not available"  camera raw editing requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.  I can open nef. in camera raw with no problem.

    Hm, what I suggested might actually be a possibility then...
    Close whatever version you have open first...
    I think Adobe installs shortcuts for both 32 and 64 bit Photoshop in the start menu.
    If you can't find the 32 bit Start menu entry, look for the 32 executable here (changing the CS version number to whatever yours is):
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Photoshop.exe

  • No longer able to attach .jpg images in Mail...

    I'm having problems attaching .jpg images in Mail. This problem started two or three days ago. I can attach .zip files, but I'm unable to attach .pdf or .jpg files. I have not tried other formats, as these are the two most common formats used.
    Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Cheers. -m

    I get this problem on my PPC, but not my Intel machine. Instead of using Server Admin, best to set this value (maxAttachmentSize) in the /etc/wikid/wikid.conf file. The value in Server Admin will still show '0', but I was still able to attach files up to the size I specified in the wikid.conf file.

    I am exporting a Pages document to Epub and Pages is compressing my jpg images (I think to 72 dpi from original 600 dpi).
    How do I keep the original jpg size during the export to epub process?

    We are still trying learn how to use Pages to build ePub documents with high resolution graphics that will expand clearly when they are tapped. Very large screen shots are my example here.

  • How do I create an outline from a .JPG image?

    I have Illustrator CS6 for Windows 7.
    I'm trying to create an outline for the image. It's just a single .jpg image.

    You mean something like this?
    Make two circles with the same top origin. Select both and rotate/copy them 120° to the left and right. Select them all, use the Pathfinder panel to combine them. Delete the the center triangle. Ungroup them. Add the small center circle and the other shape and make it a compound path (should knockout the center). Give it a stroke. Make the back two circles and make a compound path and send to back.
