Inverting the iSight Camera Image???

Does anyone know of a way to invert the iSight camera image?
Mounting the iSight where I have my G5 is proving a problem because it just fits under a cabinet shelf in our kitchen (This also forced me to buy the 17" version). This prevents me from using the normal options.
My hope is to be able to flip the included table stand upside down and use the adhesive strip to mount on the underside of the shelf immediately to the left of my G5. The problem is the iSight video image is then upside down. Any ideas?
Thanks!

    Because something is wrong.
You will need to troubleshoot to find out what needs to be fixed.
One of these suggestions may resolve your trouble.
FaceTime (and other video) quality problems can be caused by problems at either end of the connection.  Unless your video callers' FaceTime connections work properly with everyone else but you, both parities to the video call should consider these possibilities.
    (1) Restart your iPad and test again. Sometimes a simple restart fixes things.
    (2) Use a fast broadband internet connection for best possible FaceTime video.
Broadband speed matters at BOTH ends, so you use something like http://speedtest.net/ to test both ends of your video connections.
Speeds less than 300 Kbps (up and down) at both ends are unlikely to give best results.
    (3) Try from a different wi-fi connection.
If the problem is ONLY at your current location, restarting your internet connection may help.  Shut down your iPad or turn Airplane Mode "on".  Then check your cable connections, restart your modem and wireless access point, reconnect iPad to the wi-fi, and test again.
If the problem remains but ONLY at your current location, there may be a problem with your internet service.  Contact your ISP for help.
    (4) Always use as much light as possible for best images (including video) from your iPad.

Barring some unusual circumstance, there should be no need to disable your built-in iSight because YOU decide when to use your iSight.
Some apps such as iChat allow you to enable and disable the webcam from menu commands.
Other apps such as Photo Booth only use the camera when you click the button.
However, if you REALLY want to disable, scripts like this one can easily disable and enable iSight.
      http://techslaves.org/index.php?page=62
However, be aware that it simultaneously disables ALL USB webcams when active.
Although I do not recommend it, you can manually disable your built-in iSight by removing the "QuickTimeUSBVDCDIgitizer.component" file from your computer's HardDriveName > System > Library > QuickTime folder and restarting your Mac. Your built-in iSight should no longer work with any app.
P.S. Manually moving, renaming, or deleting files outside your Username/Documents folder
is generally a BAD idea unless you KNOW how it will effect OS X.

    Hi
I am running OSX Maverick in a bootcamp setup with Windows 8.1 and have played around with the isight camera but I would like to know what folder the photo's/video's are sent to?
Also, are there any settings or user guide for the isight camera in Windows 8.1?
    Thanks

I don't use Boot Camp, but does anything here help you? Boot Camp - Apple Support.
My look there did not show anything about the new Windows 8.1.  The latest I saw was Windows 8.

The answer will be wherever the app you are iusing for the capture stores them unless you change the default location.  This answer is the same for either Windows or Apple operating systems.

    http://support.apple.
com/kb/HT2411: Your camera can be used by only one application at a time.
(Over time, Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

  • Can the iSight camera be used by another party without my authority?

Browsing web sites on Safari on my imac when I noticed the light for the iSight camera flashing, as if though taking a photo?
This got me thinking is it actually possible that someone can access the camera without my authority??

    Perfectly possible.
    Go to System Preferences > Flash Player and set the option to block this behaviour;

  • How do I turn off the iSight camera?

I've checked earlier discussions here on this and am not getting help with my specific question. The problem is that periodically, seemingly randomly, I notice that the iSight camera is on. At the moment it appears that no iSight-using application is running. How in that situation do I turn the camera off.
And while I'm at it, it's occurred to me in the past that someone/something else has got control of my camera. Is that possible? I mean, they're not gonna get anything very interesting on me, but thought that that could be what's going on is a little unsettling.
    Thanks.

    Hey Eric,
These guys are correct in that Skype, Linphone, FaceTime, Google+ and many other conference or chat programs / apps will turn on your built-in iSight or FaceTime camera if it is available.
You may want to read https://discussions.apple.com/message/22752712#22752712
Just keep in mind if you disable it with permissions,  simply running the disk-utility "Repair disk permissions" will make the camera work again.
If you are able to use the terminal program with root privilege enter the following lines using Mac OSX 10.6
    chmod 000 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreMediaIOServices.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/VDC.plugin/Contents/MacOS/VDC
    chmod 000 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreMediaIOServicesPrivate.framework/Versions /A/Resources/VDC.plugin/Contents/MacOS/VDC
    chmod 000 /System/Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component/Contents/MacOS/Qui ckTimeUSBVDCDigitizer
    Or these if at 10.8
    chmod 000 /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreMediaIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/VDC.plugi n/Contents/MacOS/VDC
    chmod 000 /System/Library/QuickTime/QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component/Contents/MacOS/Qui ckTimeUSBVDCDigitizer
    chmod 000 /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreMediaIOServices.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/VDC.plugin/Contents/MacOS/VDC
To make it work again you can change the 000 to 755 and run the commands or simply run the Disk permissions repair.

  • Is the iSight camera being discontinued? No longer for sale at Apple

    Hi,
I was just wondering why Apple has discontinued sales of the iSight camera. It is no longer being sold by apple per the phone sales department. Will they be offering anything to replace it?

    Hi leciaman,
Apple was forced to stop selling it in the EU due to its unacceptable levels (to the EU) of harmful chemicals. They have since stopped production. No-one knows if they plan to restart a less harmful version, of it they have have something else up their sleeve.
Please see other posts on here about alternative cameras.

  • Every time i plug in a USB mouse, the isight camera stops working

The problem is that whenever i plug in a USB mouse to say, game, the Isight camera is disabled and is "being used by another applcation" and this problem continues until i log off and back on or i restart. I am running a apple magic mouse for other uses and is normally still connected when this happens, but i tried disabling it first and plugging in the mouse and same issue happens again. any help?

I also figured out that if i plug in some combination of things, such as the mouse and an ipod, the camera comes back. any ideas?

  • ISight camera image is grayed out

As of a couple weeks ago, the image from my MacBook Pro built-in iSight camera has been grayed out. The image can be seen, but barely - it's in monochrome with minimal contrast. It happens in multiple applications - have tested with Skype and Photo Booth. I followed the iSight troubleshooting steps, including resetting the SMC. Any assistance with further troubleshooting/fixing would be appreciated.

    tommca wrote:
Yes EZ, per my first message I followed the iSight troubleshooting steps, including resetting the SMC. That didn't help. His recommendation of starting in safe mode, then restarting did help the first time, but the problem has recurred. I tried that fix again today, but it had no effect - the iSight image is barely visible, mostly grayed out.
If your problem is EXACTLY the same with EVERY Apple app you test in EVERY user account, I can suggest two options for your consideration:
    (1) Contact your Apple Authorized Service Provider for service.
    (2) Backup you data and reinstall your Mac's software to see if that corrects it.

  • Is there a way to record video from the iSight camera

Running Mavericks on an early 2008 iMac. iMovie 08 says 'NO CAMERA CONNECTED." Recording from QuickTime Player no longer has a perference panel, and the videos recoded are jerky and sound is bad. I can't find any soluion on youTube - they all say just pick th iSight camera in iMove - which I can't. I thought maybe iMove10 bu the app store said my cideo board does no support it. Seems like there should be but I cannot find it. I don't want to have to buy Camtasia which is the only one that seems to work with the iSight input.

  • Resolution of the isight camera into eye movie

Can I take the video from i movie that was caught from isight and import it into FCP without an aspect ration change?
I don't know much about i movie, but when I save a QT video, the aspect ratio for DV looks good, but when I export or even try to edit a capture from the isight, it is squashed and truncated.
Am I missing something simple here?

I don't use FCP, but, if I understand what you are trying to do, perhaps you are missing
the iMovie > Share > Export Final Cut XML... menu command?

Any ideas on what could be wrong? Or should I just take it to my locate retailer to have it checked out?

Your local Apple retailer or Apple Authorized Service Provider can certainly help you with your problem.
If you want to try some things on you own first, consider the following in any order relevant to your Mac:
    (1) First ensure that you don't have some kind of dirt smudge on your cams' lens cover.
    (2) Poor iSight image is usually caused by insufficient light.
Per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3097, use good (meaning very bright, single-source) light.
You can restart Mac and record a Photo Booth image or video clip in full sunlight. View it inside (not in sunlight) to see the best quality your Mac can give.
    (3) If your problem persists, you can consider these suggestions for troubleshooting built-in iSight: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
You have already tested multiple apps, but you should also test in more than one user account.  Create a new one for testing if you only have one account on your Mac. Do NOT use a "Guest" account!
    (4) If you decided to get help, unless you already have a current backup, always make one immediately befoer you relinquish your Mac for service.
