Investigating disk utilization issue with performance monitor

Hello
im using windows 2008r2 server, lately the server became very slow.
i ran performance monitor with the "avg disk queue length" counter and it seems that is very high, how can i tell exactly wich process is consuming all the disk utilization?
Thanks!
Guy

  • Issues with performance and RAM previews

Just did a major system upgrade from an iMac to a Mac Pro, and now I'm having an issue with performance...specifically with RAM previews.
When I try to do a RAM preview with audio, it grinds my entire OS to a hault (can't switch apps, or click on much of anything). It eventually clears up enough for me to stop the RAM preview.
So, I'm wondering if maybe my Memory & Multiprocessing settings might be off.
    Here are my system specs:
    Mac Pro
    2 x 2.4GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon (12 cores)
    64GB RAM
    ATI Radeon HD 5870
    AE CS6 (11.0.2.11)
AE is installed on an SSD drive and the scratch disk is an internal HDD.
Here are my AE Memory Settings:
    Here's my GPU Info:
Let me know if any other info is needed...

You are reserving far too little RAM for other software.
See this: "Performance tip: Don't starve your software of RAM."
(Also, I recommend going through all of these materials: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/543440 )
Regarding the SSD: Putting your application files on it means that applications load/boot faster. This is fine, but that benefit is just when you first start the application. If you put your cache files on it, then you get the benefit every time that something is read from or written to the cache---i.e., many times per second, for the entire time that you're working. Put your cache files on your SSD. BTW, there's no reason to not put your application files and caches on the same SSD. The reason that you split things across multiple disks is to prevent simultaneous reads and writes to and from a slow disk; the program loading from disk happens at a different time than reading and writing cache files, so there is no potential for conflict and slowdown.

  • Is anyone else having an issue with performance in Mavericks?

My computer is brand new. Just bought it a week ago. Since I installed Mavericks, I have been having very big issues with performance. It now takes forever to start up, it loads programs extremely slowly, and it randomly freezes for a few minutes at a time. Is anyone else having these issues? I have already re-installed the OS. What else can I do?

Mavericks has certainly made up for all the problem-free updates I've had in the past! I have significant system drag (endless spinning beachballs....), Safari is incredibly slow, Mail - gmail & icloud - almost unusable. I'm desperately hoping the first OS update fixes things.

  • Strange issue with external monitor, only working when external speakers plugged in (using Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor)

Hey – I am having a very strange issue with my external monitor; where it only works if my external speakers are plugged in and connected.
I am using a late 2011 Macbook pro, running Mavericks 10.9.4, along with an MBox 2 (USB Audio Interface), and two powered speakers (KRK Rokit 5). This setup has had no issues. I have just acquired an external monitor (Benq T2200HD), which I am using with a thunderbolt to VGA adaptor (a cheap Chinese knockoff adaptor).
To start - I plugged the monitor in with the thunderbolt adaptor, and it powers up and works fine. However, there is a nasty buzz coming from the speakers. I did some research and it looks like a simple ground loop issue. I did a bit of troubleshooting, and this is where things get weird.
What I found is - If I unplug the MBox, the monitor loses signal from the computer (displaying ‘No Signal Detected!’). Further, if I keep the MBox plugged in, however unplug both the cables from the MBox to the speakers, the monitor loses signal. It doesn’t matter if the speakers are turned off, however they need to be plugged in (or the monitor loses signal). Weirder still, I can unplug the MBox, however the monitor will work if I plug in the speakers through my macs headphone jack.
Simply put, the monitor only works if there is a direct connection between the computer, the speakers, and the power source.  What is going on here? Is the monitor grounding through the computer port, to the speakers (I don’t know how this works, is this possible?). Could it somehow be the cheap VGA adaptor I am using?
    Some other information:
    - Everything is plugged into the same multi-box for power. I have tried plugging things into separate sources, and the result is the same.
    - If I unplug the thunderbolt adaptor, then the speaker noise disappears straight away.
    - The ground noise doesn’t appear in my headphones, which are plugged into the MBox.
Any information would be great – am I missing something here, or is this genuinely weird?

Well, I went back into Best Buy to test on 3 other laptops (2 Asus, and their floor model for this Sony). It seems to be doing the same problem so at least I was able to rule out broken hardware issue on my particular laptop.
Here's what I did to test:
Since I couldn't really install Adobe Premiere on their machines, I used the DVIO software (http://www.carr-engineering.com/dvio.htm) and a 5 min clip I captured.  I transferred onto their machines, hooked up my Sony D8, and attempted to play the video.  It would play for 15 seconds and then stop and jitter with a loud noise (like it does on my laptop).  I even tried changing each machine's firewire driver to the legacy one and same results.  I pulled a brand new 4 pin to 4 pin firewire cable off their shelf and still the same problem.
I think I've nailed it down to Win7x64 bit Home Edition not playing nice with Firewire driver.  Very annoying.  I can't find any concrete evidence of this from other users on any of the forums that have my particular problem, but from my own testing, it's all I can conclude.
I have 2 other things I can try:
    1.  Opening the laptop and looking at the firewire to maybe find appropriate driver (ugh, I don't want to have to open this thing up).
    2.  Upgrading to Win7x64bit Pro and possibly testing with XP on the new MS Virtual PC (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/).  I can't do it with my Home edition apparantly.
Who needs to view video on an external TV anyways....sheeesh...(scarcasm).

    Hello cgoldberg11
Please go to the below link to test if you are having a speaker hardware failure.
Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7)
This will rule out hardware failure, let me know how that goes.
    Thanks

  • Issue with Performance Point Filters and SSRS when visibility is toggled

I have a SSRS report that has the visibility toggled with the (+/-) sign. The report is SQL Server 2008 R2 / SharePoint Integrated in a SharePoint 2010 Site. The reports datasource is an Analysis Services database.
I am displaying the report in a Performance Point Dashboard and am connecting it to Performance Point filters using the member unique name. The report filters correctly when the dashboard filters change. However, when I click to expand a plus sign to toggle
the visibility, the report goes back to it's default filters of '[Dimension].[All]' and all data is returned, and the visibility is not expanded.
I have confirmed that the report visibility toggling works in BIDS and via the report that is stored in SharePoint. I have also confirmed that it works when the report is stored in the native mode report server, and integrated with Performance
    Point in the same manner.
So, I 'think' I have whittled the problem down to be the combination of SharePoint Integrated and Performance Point.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Jewels

    Hi,
I am having a similar issue with PerformancePoint SSRS and visibility togle. Were you able to figure this out?
I have a report which calls a sub report. When I click on the report it passes parameters to sub report which works fine. But as soon as I click the visibility toggle, it goes back to default. Strange thing is that it works in PerformancePoint as a
stand alone report (sub report alone in PP). Just when it is a sub report and parameters are passed through url this issue happens.
Any suggestions are welcome. I have spent hours trying to figure this one out.

  • Issue with multi-monitor after upgrading to Mavericks

I ran Mountain Lion OS on my MacBook Pro along with VMWare Fusion 5 with an extra monitor and everything was working fine till I upgraded to Mavericks. Since then, I am not able to see the 2nd monitor in the Extended Mode.
on Apple, everything is work and I see two monitors and can move one window from one display to another but when I open my Windows in Fusion, only one display is accessible (the 2nd display showing Apple screen, which wasn't the case before). Even I can see that the color settings I had done before for my additional monitor is not in place after upgrade.
I have checked my WIndows and settings are fine as it was before. It's Windows 7 Pro. I read some articles that I have to upgrade to Fusion 6 and some others that mentioned this is an issue with Mavericks and upgrade won't fix it. So, I am looking for some advice or similar experince, if any.
Thx in advance for your help.
    Behzad

Update: I can see that Windows act as it is two displays but the 2nd display is in nowhere and I cannot see it. I mean the window can go out of my normal display (i.e. my laptop) but not to the other monitor. That's why I have to disconnect the 2nd monitor and only use laptop display.

  • Issue with E2E monitoring jobs in PI

    Hi All,
We are facing some performance issue in our XI server due to some scheduled jobs which runs for very long time thus utilizing lot of resources and memory. These jobs names are like this : SPI_* (SPI_PS_ASSEMBLE_DSP, SPI_TRANSPORT) , CL_SPI_STAT* and 4393* (jobs created automatically by SAP when doing some configurations in RWB) when our XI was at 3.0,sp11 level.
Now our XI/PI server is upgraded to PI 7.0, SP10. In earlier versions, this E2E monitoring configuration was a pre-requisite for Alert configuration.
    1) Let me know whether this set up is required in latest version of PI?
    2) I would like to know if there is any impact for our interfaces if we delete this jobs in the current version?
    3) Impact of permanently deleting the E2E monitoring jobs.
    4) Impact of Alert framework dependency with E2E stuff.
    5) Is there any sap notes available addressing this kind of issues?
    Thanks in advance!!

    Hi Prasanthi,
Thank you very much for the information. We will try implementing the note and eventually disable E2E monitoring on our development environment.
    Best regards,
    Jacob

  • Macbook Pro video issue with multiple Monitors and Powerpoint 2011

    Hello all,
I have a major issue that is perplexing me. Whenever I hook up a second monitor or projector to my Macbook Pro 15" Early 2010 and launch a Powerpoint slideshow I lose video on both systems immediately and can only recover with a reboot. This is fully reproducable. It doesn't matter if I'm using the mini Display Port to DVI or VGA adapter, same results. Same results with monitors, TVs, or external projectors. I only experience this issue in MS Powerpoint 2011, no other applications. I have 8GB of Ram and a 2.66GHZ i7. It doesn't matter what my resolution is set to, same issue. I will post two error reports below for additional details.
    Thank you for the help,

I "fixed" it, I did a fresh install and restore and that power point issue is gone.  It works now without crashing but I am using Snow Leopard 10.6.4 now instead of 10.6.7.  I'm going to update and see what happens.

  • 10.9.2 update sleep issue with NEC monitors confirmed

After updating from Mac OS10.9.1 to 10.9.2, both my friend, who lives in another city, and I find that attempting to put our MacPros (2010, think his is a 2009 model) attached to a NEC PA 301 (mine) or PA 271 (his) series pro monitors to sleep experience a frozen screen and cursor followed about a minute later with an expected and desired sleep mode. My computer does something slightly different than his in that the background of the dock turns a golden yellow when the screen freezes. Both systems start up from sleep correctly.
If I only use my Apple 30 inch Cinema Display, the sleep mode works as expected.
Spent two hours with Apple Care (level one and level two) people that didn't have a clue what was going on. Called NEC and they had no explaination.
Any thoughts of wisdom of what is going on with the sleep issue that occurred right after we put the 10.9.2 update?

    Andrew,
This is not an AppleCare issue, it is an Apple bug that you didn't want and  will be addressed by AppleCare representatives. Your are helping out the communnity.  If they don't believe you, refer them to this discussion. They never tell you about the 90 day software exception clause for free techsupport when one updates to a major MacOS change. I found that sending in a known bug where many people are experiencing it through AppleCare where they end up uploading your OS data to their engineers gets more attention than going to Apple.com/feedback. The more people who report it, the quicker it gets addressed.
As far as going back to 10.9.1, didn't you do a back-up before you did an Apple "fix" that you can go back to? My problem is that every day my calendar, documents, email, etc change a lot so I am reluctant to go back to my back-up which I hate to say is only on TimeMachine now. My other backups (mirror copies) occur nightly and I didn't notice this bug till a day later.
You pay good money for only quality equipment so a wierd bug like this should not occur on a little update.
I have reported this to Apple and NEC but need others to light a fire under those in charge to make a change and not have us wait for one or two updates later.
If you want to request NEC to jump in to getting this fixed, send a message to the NEC monitor product manager (Art Marshall): [email protected]

That's not a problem.  See Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore

  • Screensaver issue with dual monitors

My screensaver has recently started acting up. It's sort of a minor blip, but it worked before and now it won't. Here's the issue: I have dual monitors (Intel imac, running Leopard, with a Viewsonic 20" lcd running in extended desktop mode). I use a "smart" album from iphoto as a screensaver (iphoto 08, v7.1.5). I've been using this particular smart album for several months as my screensaver and it's worked fine. How it used to work: when the screensaver activates (either by time or by hot corner) both screens would draw photos from this album and randomly scroll, zoom, and fade them across each monitor, independently but simultaneously. It's worked like this flawlessly for years, with several different iphoto albums. Now, I just noticed that the second monitor does not find the pictures. A message on screen "looking for pictures" appears on both monitors, as normal, but instead of both monitors going to screensaver, only the imac starts, and the message "looking for pictures" stays on the other. What's weird is that if I run the screensaver in test mode, it works like it used to (both screens work independently and simultaneously). And if I switch to one of Apple's supplied screensavers, both screens work as well. But any iphoto album no longer works properly. I don't understand what has changed. I just recently ran an upgrade (Software Upgrade, a week or so ago) but it seems like it worked normally since then, and I don't believe the upgrade was a major one or had anything to do with iphoto. I just noticed this problem today. I've tried restarting the machine. Same issue. Any ideas what could be causing this minor, yet annoying, glitch.

I had this same problem arise after installing an iPhoto update in late January. I contacted AppleCare and the problem was escalated to a Product Specialist. The Product Specialist contacted Apple Engineering and Engineering 1) replicated the problem and 2) confirmed that it's a bug.
So, Apple is aware they have a bug and we look forward to a bug fix -- at some point in the future. I hoped the problem would be fixed with the next iPhoto update but a major update came out today and the problem remains. I don't know if there's any way to know whether the problem is an OS bug or an iPhoto bug but either way we have to wait until it reaches the top of the pile at Apple...

  • 10.9.4 Maverick Upgrade - Issue with multiple monitors

I have just upgraded to Maverick and there seems to be a problem with my second monitor now going to a black screen every time I use the mouse or scroll up and down a page. Is there a fix for this? Any help would be appreciated as it is very annoying.

This is being discussed in a number of threads - unfortunately there is no single thread, but this one is most recent: Second display problem with 10.9.4
(More unfortunately, there is no fix and Apple generally hasn't been giving a scheiß about the issue since it first cropped up in 10.9.3...)

  • Issues with Agentless Monitoring

    Hi,
I have a request to remove a server A from monitoring. Server A is a proxy agent for server B in agentless monitoring. Before removing server A, I had changed the proxy agent for B as C. After changing the proxy agent settings, B was being shown under C
but again after fews mins, B has disappeared from the list & now I am not able to add B again also.
I am not able to understand where the issue lies & how can I add B into agentless monitoring.
Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
    TIA

Have you following the procedure to change the proxy agent for agentless-managed computers
1.Log on to the computer with an account that is a member of the Operations Manager Administrators role for the management group.
2.In the Operations console, click Administration.
    3.Click Agentless Managed.
4.In the Agentless Managed pane, select the agentless-managed computers for which you want to change the proxy agent, right-click them, and then select Change Proxy Agent.
5.In the Change Proxy Agent dialog box, select the computer you want to be the new proxy agent, and then click OK.

  • My USB drives have "Disk Repair" issues, with "limited functionality."

The only way I can transfer files between my PowerMac G4 with OS X v10.5.2 and my PowerMac 5500/225 with OS 8.6 is with Iomega Zip drives. My 100 MB disks work perfectly in OS 8.6 but they seem to get corrupted when I open them on the G4. I've had this problem with other USB drives on the G4, including an external USB hard drive and my USB SD card reader. Things will seem to work fine transferring files but then I'll get the following message:
    *+Disk Repair+*
+The disk "disk" was not repairable by this computer. It is being made available to you with limited functionality. You must back up your data and reformat the disk as soon as possible.+
Then I drag the files over with the Zip drive until everything blows up and I have to reformat the disk. I'm scared what might happen with the SD cards, if that will have any effect on the camera or if the disk will stop working entirely. The external hard drive was the first to blow up but we didn't know that this was going to be a trend so we had returned that to Best Buy. It had worked beautifully under OS X v.10.3.
Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on here and how to fix it? I do not have vast sums to upgrade hardware and software nor do I even really want to. I'm quite fond of the old Power Mac 5500 and OS 8.6.
    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Have you tried backing up again by manually running a Time Machine backup? Unfortunately, if your backup is corrupted I don't know of a way to fix it except to start over.
